Crap, told the wrong gender!!

We were told we were having a girl and I went for a scan this morning (36 weeks growth) and it's a BOY!!!

We have 2 girls, so this is a huge shock! We have nothing boy sorted!! What do I do (other than beg friends for clothes!?). Emotionally it's fine, I am so happy it's a happy healthy baby so gender is fine. But we know about girls! How are boys!?

Don't worry op you don't need anything different I'm sure what you've got will be fine. Just get your head around it and look forward to cuddles!

Boys are brilliant. I have 18 month old ds and expecting ds2 in 3 weeks (although now I'm worried could be a dd and I have nothing prepared!!)
I shouldn't think there is much difference at first (apart from the obvious during a nappy change). As they get older, can't speak for all little boys but my ds loves cars, peppa pig and is a big mummy's boy.

You have time to get things sorted and arranged, don't panic too much, he will be lovely ThanksThanks

I agree, boys are great! I have one DS who is nearly 2 - a proper cheeky chappy, mischievous but in an adorable way (usually!).

At the moment he loves anything with wheels or anything involving a ball!

Just look forward to the cuddles though yes, be warned he is likely to pee on you at some point!!!!

(Oh and I'm due with DC2 shortly - have been told it's a girl but who knows???!!)

Makes no difference really. I had a ds after a dd and he just wore the same stuff.

I have never been peed on either!

Boys are great. When changing boys nappy, open fresh air nappy covers willy again as the air tends to make them wee.

Boys generally are not so good at sitting still but they are all different.

One thing I love about having a boy is it becomes new and interesting as its not the toys we played with as kids.

Boys really are super, but have SO much energy!

Tips I was told when having a boy after having a daughter.

  • point willy down and cover at all times during nappy change (as already mentioned. They pee lots)
  • wipe up rather than down during poopy nappy changes.

And that's it. Everything else is much the same.

Great tip about the willy down in nappy changes - especially if you move on the pull ups - it's easy to forget to make sure 'it' goes down when the pull up goes up!

This is my current fear! We have been told we're having a boy 3 times (17 week gender scan, NHS 20 week scan and then 28 week 4d scan) but now I'm starting to panic that he is actually a she Confused first baby and everything we have bought is blue!

(I'm on mat leave just waiting for him to make an appearance so my mind tends to wander to worst case scenarios, not that I wouldn't be happy with a girl but everything is just so err blue and un girly)

OP don't worry all will be fine :)

Agree beware the wee in eye phenomenon, it will happen.

Otherwise buy a blue cardigan and re use everything you have, you'll get given " boy outfits" in plenty anyway

My DS was in pink sleep suits/pjs (mixed with unisex ones - all hand me downs from DD1)till he was 2.5...... at which point DD1 had a boy/unsex wardrobe so they'd be OK for him!

EVERYTHING I have is pink and flowery. Thankfully all other more expensive things are gender neutral because I thought ahead when pregnant with dd1!

Will baby be different to a girl or is that not apparent until they're older? Will he sleep as well? Or is that baby dependent rather than gender?

TBH dd2 has been a handful so if he's not worse than her (as a 18m-2.5yr old) then it's fine.

Girls very excited to be having a baby brother...mummy is still in shock and slightly worried!!

It won't affect your boy to have pink and flowery stuff. They really don't care about colour! Other than the willy he shouldn't be any more different than any baby is.

Ahhhh this would be my worst nightmare !! Can't you take things back ? Do they have the labels still on ! I can't comment on if there are different as I have a little girl but I'm hope this one I have in my belly is a boy !!!

Don't stress about it , you little boy will have to a a flowery pinky boy for a while !! Hahahaha :)

Congratulations on your boy - boys are great! Buy a few plain cheap things and I'm sure people will provide some blue stuff too. But really won't matter. I only have a boy but he is full of energy and great fun but very much into boy things - balls, cars etc.
Willy down thing important and a et wipe over the willy as you change them as wee in the eye, on the wall, in your hair is not great - amazing how far wee can fly!

Same thing happened to my relative, but they only found out when she'd given birth eek! She had to use a pink pram for the first week of his life.

buy some cheap basic baby grows he doesnt really need 'proper' clothes for ages yet. He wont mind sleeping on flowery bedding etc. Dont panic and enjoy him boys are great.

I have girl, boy, girl. My boy slept in a pink, flowery sleeping bag for a good few months - he didn't complain at all!!! Grin

Congratulations. We put the ds in pink and dd in blue. Make the most of it before age 18m when they're too young to complain! And I'm sure people will give you clothes for ds.

Boys are brilliant by the way. Especially the fart jokes :)

Congratulations - I hope you haven't bought too many girly things!

Don't have much to add other than to say we've been told we are having a girl at the 20 week scan but I'm so convinced it's a boy - we've got a 4D scan in a couple of weeks just to confirm - not that it makes a bit of difference but it would be good to get prepared!

Good luck when your little blue bundle arrives!!

My DS looks great in pink. Personality plays far more of a part than if the baby has a willy or not.

Boys rock, but I'm biased as have a 6YO DS, 10MO DS & and am 14 weeks pg with number 3 who I found out today will also be a DS!!
Honestly I know how you feel though, I'd have been scared if i had been told today that I was having a girl, I've changed my god daughter's nappies and it's all crevices that pooh gets in!!!! Lol!!!
You'll be fine, grab a few baby gro's in blue and just keep stocking up as you need them, as long as your major bits are neutral then it's not a prob!
IME boys are easy easy easy, mine have both been great sleepers and laid back and easy to entertain.... Not until my eldest hit 5 that he became V highly strung and harder work (mini teenage attitude already!!)
Don't panic and enjoy having a loving and cuddly boy!!! x

Pink clothes aren't going to hurt him. He won't be the first baby brother to wear pink.
