OP posts:

Gomez, I'm just in flip flops permanently - if the weather goes bad I'm going to have to hibernate or look slightly odd. If it's any consolation, this baby doesn't even have a room, just a pile of boxes and bags in the corner of our bedroom - v bad feng shui, no wonder I can't sleep Are you reading anything exciting? I can't get my brain into gear, keep re-reading crappy pregnancy books and magazines full of horror stories, just right to get me in the mood, ha ha...

karen01 · 17/05/2004 20:09

I think this is the only advantage of him being away it makes me want it when he is here, after all we are still newlyweds!! Our 9 month anniversary yesterday I have it on the brain at the moment..... it won't last I think I am leading him into a false sense of security!!!!

Alot of the mams in dd class were passing comments at me this morning about walking funny etc, until I pointed out my swollen ankles etc

Gomez · 17/05/2004 20:10

Skara even flip-flops from Evans (wide fitting) are giving me flesh wounds!!!

I am reading a book called 1412 about how China discovered pretty much the whole of the world before we Europeans thought we did!! Then when the poor guys who had been traversing the globe in junks got back to China they found that policy had changed and nobody was interested. It was also at this point that China withdrew into itself an stopped trading. V. intresting I have to admit in my sad way. I try and make sure I read at least one factual book each month. Last months was on the Spanish Inquisition and was gripping............... (Please don't remove me from the gang for being dull - I can do Hello with the best of them too.)

What I really need to be doing is an Economics essay for next Thursday.

karen01 · 17/05/2004 20:18

Gomez- Don't know how you can still be writting essays, I have enough trouble remembering what I am trying to write on here let alone writing an "economics essay" I do admire you. I have been thinking about doing a course on line whilst in Cyprus not sure what thought. Thinking about persuing with my accountancy but not sure if i want to spend the rest of my life looking at peoples accounts etc.. Think I need to grow up first then decide what job I want to do!!

Gomez · 17/05/2004 20:27

But Karen you are exhausted after all you physical exercise

And I can't really be bothered that is the problem but I only have one to go to finish the year so it would be silly not too. Right I am off to do some ironing instead.

Bye

karen01 · 17/05/2004 21:35

pram is all set up and ready now and I have just packed my hospital bag, so i am all ready now just got to wait for babs to make appearance
I am getting really excited i keep looking at babies and thinking "I wonder what mine will look like" and when I hear them screaming I think "ooops!!!"

Skara · 18/05/2004 07:44

Gomez, I am speechless with admiration. I can't bring myself to read the book for my book group this month (although that might be 'cause it is terminally dull, rather than because of brain atrophy) and found myself looking at an advert for Now or Closer or one of those absolute pap magazines last night and thinking 'ooh, must get that tomorrow and lie fatly in the bath having a read of some gossip'. The idea of writing an essay when I can't even string a sentence together...v impressed Hope it goes well!

Still here - last week at work and boy am I glad. Very tired now and breathless. I finish either Thurs or Friday - doing some extra days to try and finish up but then I hope to get the house sorted a bit.

Will keep ds1 & 2 at nursery m-w just in the mornings when I finish, so not sure how much of a rest I will get.......

Am about 34+3 now. Anytime after about 37 would do me, but ds2 10 days late. Would absolutely hate to be late this time and in this heat. But m/w said baby was snmall last visit so I suppose the longer the better

Nobody had any twinges yet? Someone must be a bit early surely??

Wow secur - working till yer due date - you brave woman you. And you have other kids don't you? Do you work f/time? Are you superwoman?

Might be us 2 in at the end eh?

Everyday I get to about lunch time and want to go home and lie down...I wasn't as bad with the other two. I think my diet is pretty crap which proably isn't helping. Still, they say chocolate is good for the baby.

Hey nice to see everyone is ok although I agree that someone must be ready to go soon?? I'll just be so glad to get to 37 weeks on Thursday as it means the baby can come out and not be considered premature.

I just cannot believe most of you lot of you on this thread. Secur, for working until your due date, even if you are self-employed, Karen for still even thinking about rumpy pumpy, never mind doing it, Gomez for writing essays, Skara for moving house, Cathncait for coping with a poorly dh...and you others with more children etc etc. Makes me feel like the moaniest laziest one cos I only have one dd and do not go out to a paid job (although I do not denigrate being a SAHM).

Gomez I too do try and alternate non-fiction with fiction reading - I've heard of the one you're reading and it sounds very interesting. However, I do have a terrible weakness for crappy magazines, although even I draw the line at Hello and OK (unless someone else has bought them ). But I am a very slow reader so I'm thinking th ebig pile of books by my bed will probably last until next year now, cos I can't see there being much opportunity when db makes an appearance.

Skara - we haven't got another room for the baby either so it's a tight squeeze in our flat at the moment. I really want to move, trouble is, although dh said he has no attachment to this flat, it is less than a 15 minute walk to his work so I think he's resisting my attempts to find somewhere bigger than a postage stamp. Ha, wait till the flat is filled with baby and toddler screaming on a hot summer's night with even the foul London air bringing no relief - we'll see how much he likes it then!

cathncait · 18/05/2004 13:37

Hi again. Went to see mw yesterday and was probably a bit grumpy (tired and generally fed up with being a lump). Asked if they would induce me ealry (had to try anyway!0. Funny enough they said no . Especially as the baby's head isn't down yet (it is facing down but still too high). So boo hoo I have to wait. otherwsie all is well. Dh the same of course but we get by.

My biggest gripe is taht I never get a sleep in cos he's always his tiredest in teh morning and finds it hard to get up - I do try to nap when dd does at lunch time but its just not the same! He has been more helpful at these times though as if dd wakes up from her nap and I'm still asleep he takes her out for a bit so I can have a bit longer. So he is trying and it really means a lot to me cos I know its hard for him.

Only 3 1/2 weeks to go now - thank God for that!
We don't have a room for the baby yet either Skara and Monkey girl but we are building on at the moment (more chaos!) so hopefully in another 3 months we will have a room for the baby - in the meantime she will be in with us - which I'd kind of expected anyway. so hopefully it will all work out perfectly (although I won't hold my breath. You know what builders are like - well at least over here!).

Glad to hear you're all holding up so well - no serious problems so we are all pretty lucky and blessed I guess - I try to remember that whilst whining about being a huge whale and feeling tired and crappy!

I actually mistakenly clicked on to the due in May thread and a first glace thought everyone was having their babies like mad things! That threw me for a minute till I actually READ THE TITLE! Ahh...I blame pregnancy!

I'm fine. still sunburnt from the weekend & this hot spell is causing havoc for my ankles!

m/w made som esuggestions for oils to massage into reduce swelling.

36+1 today measuring 38cm. baby is still back to back but head down tho not engaged yet.

How i am meant to do OFP stuff & have my feet up & look after a toddler i don't know!

broke the record for midwives today! had my usual mw (who i've seen every appt!) a student & a mw who is new to the team! all prodding!
heartbeat with pinard & sonicaid u name it I had it!!!

home stretch now thatnk god I am fed up waiting now cos i am just Mrs Impatient!

glad everyone else seems to be doing ok. who will be first? I keep checking birth announcements just in case!

Secur - a meet up later in summer sounds good. just somewhere a bit quieter than a funfair disguised as a balloon festival!!!

Skara · 18/05/2004 19:51

nice to see you Bogwoppit Did they suggest geranium oil? I've been using it in the bath and haven't had half as much swelling as usual - but have also been making a supreme effort to drink loads of water which is hideous but seems to be worth it. Oh and I have to laugh at the whole OFP/relax in late pregnancy/put your feet up to avoid fluid retention thing - completely infeasible with a toddler, but believe me I'd love to.

Went to the supermarket today and bought my labour scoff supplies - lucozade orange, dextrose sweets, cereal bars, cashew nuts and dried apricots. I will of course proceed to fancy NONE of those when in labour and eat them in a fat heiferish fashion whilst lying in bed postnatally. Also bought some cotton wool for bottom wiping which made it seem very real...ooh and my pool arrived today!

MG, I bet a few months of cramming yourselves into the flat and he'll be househunting like mad...

Cathncait, you're right, must try not to grumble Keep telling myself this is the last time and I should be enjoying this, but then realise that the reality is I don't like being pregnant very much

BTW Gomez, are you scottish-in-scotland or a displaced one like me?

Secur, am impressed by your super-virtuous diet this time round - mine is hopeless! Started off with carbo-junk-food obsession to stave off morning sickness, went on to 'can't be bothered to cook, let's have a takeaway' and now am eating very healthily (all fruit veg and wholmeal bread) but am not at all hungry.

And Lazyeye, I echo the 'lie around doing nothing all morning' sentiment - dh has been off work and I've been a lot lazier this week and feel a bit better so it does work.

Cavy · 18/05/2004 20:14

Sorry, this talk of "baby's room" is surreal to me. A special room for baby? Hahahaha! I guess we are lucky to have 3 beds with 2 children plus baby expected soon...Still madly house-hunting. Would so love to find somewhere to buy.

At least my diet is ok, and the heat isn't bothering me at all.

cathncait · 19/05/2004 10:07

Uh oh, have started nesting!!! Cleaning like a crazy woman till I can hardly stand - this is VERY unlike me . Stuff all ready for the baby now - except haven't set up basinet as I want to do this with dd when its a bit closer. And sure, I haven't packed for the hospital yet - maybe I should do that tonight...you never know.
dd's new word today is 'nude'. All her dolls have their gear off and she's tring very hard to be that way herself as much as possible. she's so cute! I can hear her now in the other room saying...noo...noo and yep, she's nude alright! Only just dressed her again 5 mins ago!

monkeygirl · 19/05/2004 10:46

Cathncait - my dd loves getting naked with her little friend. Me and the other mum try and look cross but it's impossible to keep a straight face. BTW are your instincts telling you you're ready to go then???

Cavy - do you live in a house or flat atm then? How long have you been looking? I'm starting to get all wistful about having a garden where I can sip my cold beer in the sun and watch the little ones in a paddling pool. Oh well at least I don't have to worry about gardening.

Have all of you been having your fundus height (is that right?) measured then? I haven't once so they're obviously not bothered here, but I'd love to know out of curiosity.

Right I'm off to check my credit card statement so if you don't hear from me for a while it's because I've probably had a heart attack - I've been sooo naughty these past few days with it.

aka lazyeye - had to change name as reg mix up

Am heartened by all these tales of stripping off. DS1 - 3 is a chronic stripper offer - will take off clothes as soon as home from nursery and then any excuse. It doesn't really bother me but am I right just to ignore it and it will calm down?

oh Secur, don't get too excited yet. I very much doubt I will be first cos I was 1 days od with dd and even then was induced - so I don't expect to really go early - though I sorley would like to!

I don't have a problem with dd getting naked all the time - its just too cute - plus she does know she has to wear clothes out of the house and is willing to do so just to go somewhere...anywhere.

I'm glad we're not the only family living on top of eachother - most of my friends have lovely big houses (well bigger than mine which isn't hard) so its good to hear others manage ok in smaller abodes.
Can I just say....3 1/2 weeks to go..I know I said it before but it makes me happy to say it!

cathncait · 19/05/2004 12:49

that was meant to say 13 days over due - 1 day I could live with
