RP I went to a lecture recently by a kidney specialist with an obstetric interest who looks after people with renal failure/kidney transplants who get pregnant. She said she sometimes knows patients are pregnant before they do because she sees their blood results and the creatinine drops in pregnancy.

RevoltingPeasant · 28/11/2014 17:57

Lady no way! I think the fetal-maternal med guy was expecting it to rise rather than anything. At least, he kept saying they had to keep an eye on my creatinine levels.

Mind you, mine aren't that high anyway, as renal patients go. It was 77 on this last test which I think (?) is slightly high for a healthy woman of my age but it has gone up as far as 80 - the urologist says it's higher than he likes but not alarming generally...

Just found this online:

Pregnancy Trimester Three: 0.4 to 0.9 mg/dL or 35 to 80 µmol/L

lady great news re your scan! Naughty lady junior for keeping you guessing! Do you feel relieved?

Welcome lentil! Make yourself at home. Always nice to have a newbie.

rp sounds like it's all go for a HB. Exciting! Wish I had the guts (and house) to do it. We're in a top floor flat and I just don't feel I'd be comfortable giving birth there with all the neighbours about. The people downstairs say they can hear our kettle boil! Blush. I can't believe I'm 30 weeks now either. In lots of ways, it's flown, hasn't it?! Great news on all you kidney news, too!

Sorry if I've missed anyone else - MN is being funny on my phone so I can't seem to see any posts prior to last night.

Now, I posted something in baby names section yesterday, but just wanted to run by you wise berries. Basically, oh and I have a name we've loved for a really long time. We're hoping to call baby feather that name, but about a year ago, a colleague and his mrs called their daughter that very name. The colleague has since gone freelance, but he comes to the office and we happen to live in the same area too - I've bumped into he and his daughter a couple of weeks ago. Can't help but feel like the name isn't "ours" anymore. It's not unusual, but not really common at all, so it's not like we're calling her something like 'Alice'. ANYWAY - am I being mental for feeling weird about it? I'm kinda worried what my colleagues will think, too. Some of them are mates with the guy. Am I being an idiot? Sorry to hog the thread...

thelentil · 28/11/2014 20:51

Hi all, cool, it's good to vent sometimes

I had clomid last year, laparoscopy and started on IUI in Sept, cycle was abandoned due to overstimulation, so I was using the digital tests to get the dates! The test I did today was faulty so instead of the egg timer, I got a book. Stupid thing. Got another one to do tomorrow.

Oh I just really want to see that heartbeat too, I'm dreading getting to the clinic and watching them squint at the screen while rummaging around and finding nothing

use the name, your colleague will be flattered and it's a colleague, not family, you might not even know them in 5 or 10 years

greatbigbushybeard · 28/11/2014 20:56

Oh yes, feather know what you mean re the noise at a home birth. We've heard our ahem neighbours before.

Saw 2 good friends of mine today separately, both we're asking how I was. Obv I'm not saying anything yet but it's hard not saying anything. Everything just feels better, it's like I feel lighter and that I can just be myself again. I don't think I realised how much pressure and anxiety the whole ttc/ mmc thing was putting on me.

So has anyone got any favourite non alcoholic drinks? I've been mixing cranberry, pineapple and orange juice- nice! There is a no alcohol becks blue in the fridge that I was tempted to try but bit unsure of whether it would be ok. It's 0.05% or less. Some say that's the same as a fruit juice.

I know what you mean re the name feather. Kinda feels like they've stolen your thunder. If you like it then go for it but you may find nearer the time that you like some other name so you won't have this problem.

thelentil · 28/11/2014 21:27

Soft drinks, I just got given a bottle of Luscombe damascene rose bubbly, it's very refreshing. I've been hunting down vegetable juice recently, the only ones I've found that are drinkable are M&S

In other news, my dinner wants to come back up, which has cheered me up no end, I'm not being sarcastic, I've never been happier to feel ill

RevoltingPeasant · 28/11/2014 22:07

Oh gosh Lady I totally missed the post about your scan Blush too busy waffling on about bloody creatinine! Congrats :)

RevoltingPeasant · 28/11/2014 22:12

Ah yes, Lentil, the evening morning sickness

Feather use the name. You have waited too long for this baby to call her anything but what you want. Seriously, odds are this guy will get a contract in Canada next year and you'll never see him again, whereas your daughter and her name are with you for life. :)

Pipbin · 28/11/2014 23:16

Exactly what RP said.
How long are you going to know this guy for.
Call her the name you want.

FeatherFeather11 · 29/11/2014 08:20

Thanks guys! You're all totally right. I know it's silly, but I just feel a bit worried about looking like a total weirdo to colleagues etc.

lentil The Sickness. Terrible but reassuring.

Pipbin · 29/11/2014 08:27

I want the sickness. I want any symptoms. I hope that I soon feel like an idiot for saying that.

thelentil · 29/11/2014 08:54

I may have eaten a bit too much, paranoid symptom spotting, it really messes with my mind!

I did another digital test and it said 3+, so that's a relief. Nurse at the clinic said if I was worried to go to A&E and tell them I'm in pain, they'll scan for ectopic, I replied, but it's not ectopic, I know from the scan last week that it's in the right place, nurse said, yes but they don't know that, and you'll get a scan to set your mind at rest

thelentil · 29/11/2014 08:59

Have you had any more dizzy feelings Pip?

greatbigbushybeard · 29/11/2014 09:02

Mmm, lentil that soft drink sounds nice. Do you know which supermarket you can buy it from? Also lol at you being pleased about your dinner wanting to come back up.

Also again rp has said what we all want to re the name. She is v wise Smile

My friend has had horrendous sickness for the past 13 weeks. It's only now clearing. She said it made her feel quite depressed as she couldn't see an end to it.

Does anyone else feel quite responsible for their passenger? E.g I ate an apple the other day for it as I know I don't always eat enough of my five a day! I was like this is for you.

Tried to phone to sort out midwife booking in. I need to book in between 8-10 weeks which will be before Christmas. The midwife hours at my surgery are well random and would involve me taking time off work. Last time round I had my initial appt at the surgery and then had the next one at the hospital as they work Saturdays there. I phoned up and they were again doing the stupid you can have 3pm on a Monday so I said I'd rather go through the hospital as they have hours that suit working people more. So I've phoned them & left a message. I'm now thinking maybe I should take the one at the surgery, take the time off and stuff work. I could then have others at the hospital. Sorry, I know I am waffling!!

ladybunnikins · 29/11/2014 09:10

Naughty nurse, encouraging NHS abuse!
I'm going to the east midlands baby show today with my sister, still feels like I'm not actually entitled to go! I'm taking my 4 year old niece because they've got characters from Frozen and face painting.
Feather, I agree with the others about the name but I get what you mean. There is a boy's name that I like but my friend's nephew has been given the same name. The two children would probably never meet but it still feels like I can't use that name because somebody I know already has it.

ladybunnikins · 29/11/2014 09:14

Bushy my midwife only has appointments on one afternoon a week so I've had to take time off work but you're entitled to time off for all antenatal appointments. I've tried not to take the piss, e.g. I had my anomaly scan on my day off but I don't owe HR anything, they were the ones who were awkward about time off for IVF so f**k them.

thelentil · 29/11/2014 09:19

I know Lady, it's terrible, but I get the impression she can empathise with how terrified I am

I hurt my ankle and needed surgery a couple of years ago, so for my previous pregnancies I told work if was a check up at the clinic. This time though, I've told my Mom she's going to be calling me away from for family emergencies, I really don't want work to know until they need to, they're not exactly forward thinking

I've been eating soooo healthily, kale or spinach every day, no junk, chocolate, tea, coffee, I've got chemical free toothpaste and stopped using deodorant! It's kinda getting out of hand and a little antisocial but, hopefully it'll be worth it. It's taking over my life already and doesn't even have limbs yet!

greatbigbushybeard · 30/11/2014 11:34

God lentil you're making me feel bad with your healthy eating! So much so I've put Savoy cabbage on the shopping list!! I had pumpkin soup yesterday instead of a junkier choice when out at dinner. I have as a coffee this morning but that'll be it on the caffeine front for the rest of the day.

I was in sainsburys yesterday and they had a new drink called 'soft brew' in their j2o/schloer section. It's no alcohol but made with hops so a bit beer like in taste, comes in lemon and apple flavours. Tried the apple one last night and not bad, tastes like you are having an alcholic drink and has a bit if a head when you pour it out. Also bought a cranberry and lime soaking bitter but bit weird as has cloves and cinnamon in it.

Ha ha, love the f* it attitude lady! Know what you mean re the baby show. I think something like that would freak me out!

As the festive season is almost upon us what are your excuses for not drinking? At our end of term drinks I am actually driving to my husband's do after so that's sorted. It's our works do soon and I normally love a drink so will need one for that, at husband's am thinking of antibiotics but for what...? I do often get sore throats so might say that. On the berries they were saying tooth ache.

ladybunnikins · 30/11/2014 11:50

I always think the antibiotics thing sounds a bit suss, especially since you can actually drink on most antibiotics. Do work know about the previous IVF? Could you say you were steering clear of alcohol and trying to do the clean living thing like Lentil in preparation for your next cycle? Can you pretend with tonic water/Becks blue in a glass? There is a similar thread going on in pregnancy where people have suggested retaliating with, "Why, do I look fat?" if people actually ask if you are pregnant.
I came home from the baby show with a big bag of reusable nappies, now I'm committed to using them!

RevoltingPeasant · 30/11/2014 11:56

Ah, I was going to eat sooo healthily and do gentle but regular exercise most days. Then The Sickness started and I survived on breakfast cereal, Babybels and sparkling water from Sainsburys. I literally couldn't even drink tap water as it felt weird in my stomach.

I know what you mean about eating "for" the baby though. I did that before I started getting ill and now I feel like that when I take my Pregnacare every morning, like, here are your vitamins!

Pip not everyone gets ill though. I know it is tough worrying and waiting for symptoms though Flowers how many weeks are you now?

We need a kits but I'm on my ipad and can't cut n paste!

RevoltingPeasant · 30/11/2014 11:57

Lady we are going to do reusable but only from about 6-8 weeks as most of the reviews I've seen reckon they don't actually fit really new newborns that well.

ladybunnikins · 30/11/2014 12:25

Did you do the nappy lady questionnaire? That was really helpful. Yes, I expect we'll start with disposables but I don't want to get too used to them and then never move on to the reusables!

Pipbin · 30/11/2014 12:57

Lentil no more dizziness here. Although I feel full quickly.
I keep reminding myself that a friend of mine was 10 weeks before she realised she was pg. The only clue she had was that she couldn't finish a cup of tea.

That drink sounds interesting Bushy. How are you feeling?

thelentil · 30/11/2014 22:59

Yeah Pip, I don't feel nauseous, just like I've eaten far too much, food just seems to sit in my chest, like it could come back up easily

The healthy eating thing is the path of least resistance in my house as OH is a fitness instructor, I was planning on drinking tonic water at the work Christmas party but alcohol free beer sounds much easier, I don't really like tonic water so would probably have just held on to it the entire evening

I am really grumpy, short tempered and intolerant of everything this weekend, I'm putting that down to pregnancy symptoms, hope I'm not normally this much of a cow!
