I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

yay lucinda last day tomorrow! :)

jen, Im told that gong into hospital and onto a drip really can help. If your electrolyte levels are badly messed up from starvation and / or dehydration, it makes you feel nauseous by itself. Rehydration helps rebalance your electrolytes apparently which reduces the nausea from that direction, at least.

jenhad84 · 05/09/2014 12:00

Hiya,

Think I'm slowly starting to improve a bit. Last night I wasn't nauseous all evening - which was amazing!. I managed to keep some soup down, I did throw up a later on, but I'd say at least 50% stayed down. Also had a good nights sleep which has helped.

Hopefully these new tablets might help more. They are called Stemetil (Prochlorperazine) which after some research seem to be ok I think. Anyone else been on these and seen an improvement?

Thanks for all your comments x

freneticfox · 05/09/2014 14:37

sneaks in and whispers I'm on my third day nausea free. I had a wave of it hit me the other day, but it was gone as quick as it came once I had some water.

17w tomorrow, so maybe it's a corner. Maybe it's another case of lulling me into a false sense of security. Hm.

Hope everyone is having a good Friday, the weekend is almost upon us and if I still manage to dodge the sickness bullet I might venture into our guest room and assess what needs to be done to make it a nursery. Eek!

ToAvoidConversation · 05/09/2014 15:10

Emsy congrats on the 12 week scan :-) how exciting! Two babies must have been lovely. My scan is soon so very nervous at the moment.

Frentic that sounds brilliant!

Lottiedoubtie · 05/09/2014 15:59

Yay Frenetic that's fab! And it's definitely a corner, it doesn't mean you won't have any more bad days, but once you start having small runs of good days it's generally the start of good things!

Meerka · 05/09/2014 16:48

good to hear, frenetic.

jen glad to hear they are helping a bit. the whole thing tends to fluctuate so don't be surprised if there are good days and bad. But prochlorperazine is quite a common middle-line med, quite a few people find it helps. Not everyone, but quite a lot. Hope it carries on helping =)

lottie and everyone how you doing? :)

LucindaE · 05/09/2014 19:31

Emsy Congratulations on scan - now, didn't MadBunnyGirl mention twins? Do we have two sets of twins expected on here now, another set besides Emsy's*?
Happy news, Jen, that the meds are helping a bit. Lottie So glad you can rest now. Meerka waves.
I hope Eveyone is coping.

ToAvolidConvesationThe chances are overwhelming that it will be fine and make you happy, but it's a nervous time waiting for it. Hugs.
Frenetic As others say, this is a happy sign that you have turned a corner. So glad for you.

Hi ladies. I've made it to 6 weeks without being sick so maybe this will be a well-earned HG-free pregnancy. Having said that, I wasn't sick until 8 weeks with my worst HG pregnancy.

However, I have awful cramping pain from indigestion/stomach acid. It really hurts. I can't remember what I was put on alongside the ondanseteon to help with the stomach acid problem. Do any of you know what is good to take for this?

And no offence, but I hope that you don't mind me popping in here a couple of times. I really don't want to have to join with you properly because I remember it all too well from previous pregnancies.

LucindaE · 06/09/2014 17:51

NoRoom Lovelyt to hear from you, and do join us when you feel like it,
you're an expert after all, having survived one dreadful Hyperemesis pregnancy. Sorry about acidity, I really feel for you over that, I suffered dreadfully from that, and didn['t know you could get ranatadine, I think that's the one they swear by. What meds are you on, as I think this is on prescription too? I was palmed off with gaviscon which is sickening and makes you feel bloated. Hope all continues as it is, without violent vomitng setting in...

Hi again everyone, thanks for making me feel welcome here, this pregnancy malarkey is tough going!?

Sorry I haven't written again until now, been a busy week for me as I managed to go back to work on Tuesday. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and have my scan this coming Wednesday so quite excited, although nervous it's twins, as someone has suggested, as have quite a few people in RL have though Confused Shock I hope it's not to be honest!

I've found my sickness has eased a little bit now, and starting to be less nauseous though the day, finding I'm able to cope with it a lot better. Still struggling to find an appetite and going off so many foods I usually love, finding it hard now Sad

Just can't believe how bad nausea and sickness can get for some women in pregnancy. Hope everyone else is having more good days than bad.

basgetti · 06/09/2014 18:23

Hi all. Glad your sickness has eased a bit madbunnygirl.

I'm still keeping the vomiting at bay at the moment, as long as I don't miss a dose of meds. It's awkward though having to plan meals and tablets to avoid it. The retching, nausea and heartburn continues though!

I've been feeling quite shaky and faint the last couple of days, not sure if it's connected to my blood sugar or anything like that. Have my next GTT next week though, to see if my GD has come back. Apparently the chances of it recurring increase if you were on insulin, which I was, so it will be interesting to see how the test goes.

I could probably do with a physio referral on top of everything else, so much pelvic and back pain. I will be going into the GP with a shopping list of ailments. Bloody pregnancy!

Still feeling a bit down, baby is moving alot and every time I feel it I don't know whether to be happy or to cry. But I'm trying to summon up some enthusiasm, got a moses basket now and it is nice to see it sitting there, and DS is getting more and more excited so some positives.

God sorry, just realised what a miserable moany post this is! Hope everyone is doing okay. x

ToAvoidConversation · 06/09/2014 19:49

Hi everyone. I won't make you too welcome NoRoom as hope you won't be joining us.

My amazing run of 9 days of no sickness ended today. Popped in to work for a few hours yesterday to discuss my phased return, which is all good. Stupidly had half a portion of Chinese take-away for dinner. Was up feeling awful at 3am this morning and back to puking again. Might have been the nerves because I had my proper booking in appointment at my house today with the midwife.

Does anyone else find anxiety just makes them feel awful?

freneticfox · 06/09/2014 19:53

Day four of feeling 'improved'. Had a bit of an 'eeeeek' moment earlier but it passed when I ate something.

Also think I felt baby for the first time today, was amazing!

Oklahoma · 07/09/2014 13:06

Bas you poor thing, that all sounds hideous. Have they given you anything for the acid? Ranatidine is a lifesaver.

Frenetic yay for improvement and for feeling the baby. I found it helped me a bit psychologically once I could feel her move as there was a point to the sickness (sort of).

ToAvoid anxiety, stress, tiredness all make mine worse so you're not alone there.

I ventured out to a wedding yesterday which was great. Really nice to do something normal but today is now a total write off. Back to throwing up everything. Hopefully just one day of it!

Hope everyone has nice relaxing Sundays planned.

Lottiedoubtie · 07/09/2014 15:21

Yep I agree, anxiety is like food for nausea and vomiting.

I'm having a good last day of being pregnant! I'm soooo excited about it all being over and blocking out the inevitable pain of the csection recovery

DH and I have been to the cinema and had lunch out. Probably the last time that we'll manage that just the two of us for about 15 years! Grin

LucindaE · 07/09/2014 19:53

Mad bunnygirl I'm so glad you aren't doing too badly and are coping at work.
basgeti Oh no to heartburn, retching, back pain and coming GTT test.
I thin k a lot of people suffer from faIntness and dizziness on here, but what causes it apart from feeling awful and not eating properly, whether it's low blood pessure or not, I don't know. As others say, ranatdine does seem to
be a good idea. A moses basket must be sweet to look at.
Room Waves. I hope no deterioraion?
freneticfox Congratulations on that feathery stroking feeling of that
first movement.
*Oklahoma Glad you had wedding fun, sorry you feel awful as a result.
How dare you have fun, eh? Hypereemsis is such a killjoy.
Lottie The best of luck, my dear. Glad you had that outing for two (and a half).
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.
xx

Lottie happy baby day!! Please let us know how it goes

Meerka · 08/09/2014 09:41

lottie all the best!! thinking of you =)

ToAvoidConversation · 08/09/2014 10:28

Oh Lottie how very exciting! Hope all goes well today.

basgetti · 08/09/2014 10:38

Good luck Lottie! Hope everything goes well.

The Duchess of Cambridge is having her second child, apparently she is once again being treated for hyperemesis. Wish the news would stop referring to it as morning sickness!

Fraggle31 · 08/09/2014 10:57

Morning ladies - haven't been on for a while but congratulations to BooBoo! And thinking of you today Lottie, can't wait to hear your update :)

I'm doing ok, still nauseous and bile runs a couple of times a week but the worst has most definitely been and gone. 24 weeks now and counting down to mat leave! Not sure I mentioned it befor, but I have put pay to the myth that bad sickness means you're having a girl - 2 scans have confirmed we are definitely team blue lol

Currently on 2 weeks annual leave from work and it had been bliss - the not having to go to work has definitely helped the nausea!

Can't remember who it was that was talking about acid - I've suffered a lot with acid reflux since I was 6 weeks pregnant, made worse by my vomiting from 8 weeks. My gp prescribed me omeprazole which has been a huge help. I now only take it as and when I feel I need it rather than every day which is good. Worth asking for it or ranitidine I think is the other drug that a lot of people find very helpful

Basgetti - I just read that too lol except the Daily Mail is referring to it as 'super sickness'!! I'm not sure what's worse!

livingzuid · 08/09/2014 11:01

Kate is pregnant again! With hg poor lady. We should direct her here :)

Posting in haste thinking of you all, lots of gentle pats.

livingzuid · 08/09/2014 11:01

Oops meant to say the Telegraph called it hg

Oklahoma · 08/09/2014 11:06

And I bet it miraculously clears up completely at 12 weeks like it did last time!

I'm grateful it gives it some publicity but I don't think her version of really paints the true picture!

Grumble grumble...
