I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Consultant today for meds review and growth scan. Fingers crossed everything is ok!

Twinkle186 · 02/09/2014 11:40

madbunnygirl I'm so sorry you're struggling. DH and I were also ttc for 10 months and were so excited when it finally happened. I started feeling ill at 6 weeks (now 10 weeks) and it's horrible that after waiting a long time for it to happen you can't enjoy being pregnant.

Today was the first day of term for me. I went into school and immediately told the head and my head of department. Luckily they were both really nice and said I need to look after myself and not to feel bad if I have to stay home or leave early. They are going to look at some options for possibly reducing my (currently very heavy) timetable which is a relief. Unfortunately I only made it until 10.30 before I realised that I really needed to come home, but three hours out of the house is definite progress!

Lottie, frenetic and everyone else I hope you're feeling ok today.

ToAvoidConversation · 02/09/2014 12:20

madbunnygirl welcome and sorry that you have to join us. I was TTC for double that and I feel guilty about not enjoying the pregnancy either. Congratulations though!

I feel like I'm cheating a bit this week. Since my hospital stay last Wed/Thurs I've not been sick at all. Had a busier day yesterday than my normal just lying on the sofa and feeling a bit rough today but still no sickness just a bit of retching. The Ondan side effects aren't enjoyable but its so much better than the constant nausea. Signed off for another week almost so going to just rest as much as possible.

Good luck today Okla, hope it all goes well for you!

Twinkle that's great they are supportive and giving you some time to recover.

Lottie that's brave..6 days to go!? I suppose it keeps you busy whilst you wait!

kalidasa I hope you anomaly scan goes well.

Meerka · 02/09/2014 13:03

twinkle good to hear they have been so supportive. Did you tell them what HG can really be like? cause if it gets too much for you they may have to arrange cover. Please don't struggle on to the extreme, you do need to take care of yourself.

Lottiedoubtie · 02/09/2014 15:24

Smile my bright idea was to work this week so ML wouldn't start until the last possible minute. I've just had the looong summer off and although I'm back in work I don't have a timetable to teach and my ML cover is also in so it's not as bad as it seems! My HoD sent me home for a rest at 2pm today too so I can't complain really.

I've upped my meds a bit, as I felt quite sick yesterday evening and it seems to have worked as I wasn't sick this morning. So annoying to still be using medication to control the sickness at 38 weeks but at least it will be over in six days!!

Welcome madbunny sorry you're here, but it's a very supportive thread. Flowers

Meerka · 02/09/2014 18:01

okla and kali how were the scans?

Oklahoma · 02/09/2014 21:23

No news really. B is fine, good size, position and heartbeat. Consultant is leaving my meds as they are but did blood tests for something to do with liver function and have to go back next week.

freneticfox · 02/09/2014 22:11

Was having a good day, but I've hit a blip tonight; nibbling on hula hoops and sucking ice cubes trying to calm the gag :(

jenhad84 · 03/09/2014 10:01

Hi All,

I've been taking Cyclizine for the past few weeks, but I think they have decided to just stop working! I was off work last week, which I was sure would help - I was still sick all week, although not quite as bad.

Now I'm back at work I seem to have gone down hill quickly - haven't kept and food down since Saturday morning now, and its really getting to me. Both mentally and physically...

I'm 13 weeks with twins, and just keep thinking it will calm down soon, but end up feeling utter despair when it keeps getting worse.

Have been googling foods that don't taste awful when you throw them up, haven't found much - mostly as everything is awful on the way back up! But does anyone have any suggestions on not so nasty foods once they are mixed with all that stomach acid??

Lottiedoubtie · 03/09/2014 10:08

Jen no food down since Saturday? Please don't go to work. You need to either be in bed at home or the hospital. Work is not a reasonable expectation of yourself at this stage. As for food that doesn't taste horrible in reverse? I'm not sure it exists (sorry), but have you tried ice Lollys etc...?

jenhad84 · 03/09/2014 10:17

Hi Lottiedoubtie I've told my boss I have to go home at lunch as I'm just too weak and can't concentrate on anything, so no point in me being here! I know I'm only sat at a desk, but I'm so exhausted and constantly feeling like I'm going to burst into tears - which is awkward being the only girl in a office full of IT guys!

Hopefully a bit of rest this afternoon will help me keep some lunch down, I know as soon as I keep something down my strength will build back up, its just so hard once you start going downhill to get back up again.

Thanks for the ice lolly's tip, going to get the DH to call at the shop on the way home, at this stage I will try anything!

Meerka · 03/09/2014 10:34

jen you need to go to the doctor. How are you on liquids? if you get too dehydrated it is dangerous.

What lottie says, working right now is not a reasonable option. I'm sorry to lecture you but here goes: you need to look after yourself. Serious nausea and vomming in preg is made worse by exertion and for your sake in the long term (you've got another 27 weeks to go then the birth and then the difficult though lovely months after). Your twins will do better with a rested and healthy mum. Sorry to pull this shit on you but you do sound as if you should be in bed AND with stronger meds.

Cyclizine is a good first line but not everyone responds to it and it can wear off for some people. there's a lot of possible other safe drugs: promethazine, prochlorperazine, metoclopramide, several others.

You are protected in law from preg-related illnesses counting against you, btw.

eating adive, there's some here. I found melon tasted not too awful coming back up and it has lots of water in it too. Soup, but not acidic soup like tomato. It was weird what was horrible and what wasn't, you could never tell. Found out by trial and error.

Please go back to your doc and get signed off again and stronger meds and rest.

jenhad84 · 03/09/2014 10:54

Hey Meerka
I think I needed to hear that...

Need to stop trying to keep work happy. I don't know why I've come in today, just for fear of letting people down.

I kept thinking that as long as I made it to work and kept to a routine, then it would help. Plus I can't tell you how much I now hate my bedroom, so sick of those 4 walls and work felt like an escape to normality.

But you are right, it's just silly and I'm making it worse.

I'm doing ok with liquids - just. I'm not too dehydrated, and I'm going to focus on that today, ice pops and maybe some melon.

Will try the doctors again and ask for a different med.

ToAvoidConversation · 03/09/2014 11:04

Jen please go and see your doctor and get your ketones tested. I was throwing up constantly for that length of time and was severely dehydrated and ended up in hospital. Please look after yourself!

Just a little update, Max arrived safely yesterday, 3,380kilos. I am a bit sore from the CS but not too bad. I joined this thread at 5 weeks, bottom of the due date list, already fed up and thinking this day would never come but I finally made it so hold onto hope!

ToAvoidConversation · 03/09/2014 12:31

Congratulations Boo! That's really lovely news. Smile

Oklahoma · 03/09/2014 12:32

Boo that's amazing news. Massive congratulations! Hope you recover quickly and are enjoying nausea-free parenthood.

Oklahoma · 03/09/2014 12:35

Jen same advice as everyone else. Go to GP, stop trying to work, look after yourself etc

It sucks but you will get through this.

As for puke friendly foods, I found cold fruit was good and mushy cereal but everyone is different.

Meerka · 03/09/2014 12:47

booboo lovely to hear! :) piiiiic?! congratulations and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

so glad to hear it's all over and you've met Max at last =)

Booboostoo · 03/09/2014 13:22

Thank you! I soon as I got out of recovery I drank a whole glass of water in one go and kissed DP without wanting to vomit! Here is the new arrival and DD who feels incredibly proud!
