Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 13:06

Found it.... It's Lesley who is the sylph normally!!

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 13:09

Hello all! Had room in which PC sits re-plastered Friday and yesterday so PC got boxed up and I have been very jumpy thinking I might have missed some of you giving birth! Lesley, I loved your bit on trivia... MrsD, so your due date has been and gone? Are you still up for meeting up next week? I promise to bake for you

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 13:17

Hello Hewlettsdaughter, long time no hear!
Yes I think I have rather advertised my weakness for cakes!!! I don't need anymore though.
Yes I was going to ring you on Monday - thought I ought to see if by any chance baby might decide to surface over the weekend first.
If it happens during the night, I have advised dh to let you know.
You can see I have been REALLY busy this weekend, not bored atall.....

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 13:30

Hi MrsD! I should be in tomorrow if you ring - midwife is coming at some point to talk about homebirth (and house is full of plaster dust - eek!)
We took ds swimming this morning and I kept wondering if I would know if my waters broke early... I'm not due until the 22nd but the book I am reading at the moment says there's a 5 week period around your due date in which it's perfectly normal to give birth (the 40 week thing is a bit random, I think).

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 13:31

Book is called "Labour Pain", by Nicky Wesson, by the way. It's very good.

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 13:37

I am in denial..... la la la la la la la (fingers in ears)
MW said to me the other day "Are you prepared for this, it's going to be sore!"
I could have picked her eyes out!
I am SUCH a coward!

Fennel · 04/04/2004 13:43

Sore?

That's a bit of an understatement isn't it?

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 13:46

Oh Ladies.. Do we have to talk about the inevitable PAIN??
How about after I have delivered?
What's the reverse psychology - that might help!

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 13:55

Although the book is called "Labour pain" it's actually about ways to make it easier on yourself. The philosophy is that if you know what to expect it takes away some of the fear...

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 14:07

Not that it ever happens how you think it's going to

Lesley76 · 04/04/2004 14:38

HD - where did you get this book? Amazon don't have it in stock. Not much point in requesting it "used" - takes up to 4 weeks. WHATEVER happens this baby will be here by then...............

BTW Fennel, my Dh is very relieved to hear that your strategy for bringing on labour has not worked. I had threatenend him that if it worked, he was obliged to provide the rampant sex. So now he's happily watching the grand prix in peace and quiet (reward for taking kids out this morning)

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 14:59

Lesley - I found it at my local library on Friday. Borrowed Sheila Kitzinger's "New Pregnancy and Birth" too, although I've not looked at that one yet.
So grand prix wins out over rampant sex? Are you disappointed or relieved?!

dot1 · 04/04/2004 15:45

Hello!

I'm bleary eyed and STILL NO BABY...! Getting lots of BH's today, but they go away when I lie down - and I don't suppose you can sleep through proper contractions, so it can't be it...

Mrs D - I'm 5'8" with baby fully engaged and still getting v. bad heartburn aswell... Taking indigestion tablets during the day and a Zantac

  • tablets at night - bloody hope it goes away when I've had the baby - I'd never had heartburn until I got pregnant.

I earned lots of Brownie points taking ds round to my Mum's on our own this morning - giving dp a bit of a break - we're all a bit exhausted (ds waking up at his new time of 5.30am - grrrrr) and on edge (waiting for baby...). Dp has v. kindly reciprocated and has taken ds to her parents for a couple of hours.

Sorry, this is a truly boring post - better go before we all nod off...

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 16:10

Dh made soup for lunch and we tea and carrott cake with drippy icing after, yum!
And I have just watched Eastenders because I missed the dramatic Thursday episode. I know not all of you are fans but I have to say Nigel Harmer is GORGEOUS!!!!! He was fab on Parkinson last night and watching him now in Eastenders he's made me cry and so did Dot for that matter. Anyone else following it at the moment.
Now I have to wash up.

dot1 · 04/04/2004 16:37

ooh - Mrs D - what happened at the end of the episode where Dennis and Den were in the Queen Vic - I got up to where Den's being horrible to Dennis, telling him he's never considered him to be his son - then I saw a bit where Sharon's got tons of bruises on her face - Dennis didn't do this did he???! As you can see, I've kept missing bits - usually ds crying or Mum coming round, so the telly goes off! If you can fill in the gaps I'd be grateful!

Right, I'm off to forage for nice/naughty things in the kitchen - I'm completely past caring now what I eat - can't believe how big I am anyway, and have vowed to go back on diet when baby's here (after breastfeeding, of course..!), so what the hell..!!

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 16:56

Well basically, all of Thursdays episode was Den and Dennis talking. Den being Den, of course, turns nasty and tells him that he didn't mean that he was glad he was his son. Dennis cleverly cops on to the fact Den is trying to wind him up and refuses to rise to the bait.
However, just as Den was leaving (we all think that Dennis has successfully managed to control the situation) he starts going on about Dennis being in care and the fact that nobody loved him. Infact suggesting that instead of being looked after Dennis was abused. We see Dennis with his back to Den tears filling his eyes and jaw tensing...Suddenly Dennis goes mad (As Den had intended) breaking up the pub to get to Den and hit him. It's all very fast and exciting. A HUGE commotion and lots of noise. Alfie gets hit, so does Andy, and Sharon (stupid woman) walks in and dashes towards Dennis who has his back to her. He lashes out without looking and hits her square in the jaw throwing her to the floor.
Silence.......(panaramic scene in the Vic) Everyone looks really scared and Dennis, red-faced and crying, shocked too.
Anyway, Den (very pleased with himeself) picks Sharon off the floor, taking himself, Sharon and Vicki out of the pub.
Amid the shocked and silent faces, Dot (bless her), tears in her eyes walks up to Dennis and tells him he's going home with her, ignoring Jim blustering in the corner.
End of faboulous Episode!!!

hewlettsdaughter · 04/04/2004 19:18

MrsD (and other Eastenders fans): see "very serious question" thread under Chat topic.

dolbear · 04/04/2004 22:31

hello everybody ,

nothing goin on in my neck of the m40 , also have the back oain in the shoulders , wrong place , anything to do with being short?
I went to the PUB on sat night , how excited was I ? people and everything !
no sleep here either contractions , yes
being kept bust with v ill dm , useless df

  • man using washing machine and dh with a cold ! we have discussed the matter and grand prix wins over sex for us both !
Fennel · 05/04/2004 07:03

hi Dolbear, I was wondering where you were. I keep thinking people must be popping their sprogs but seems none of us are there yet.

Saw a woman giving birth on tv last night - William and Mary, I'd never seen it before (and couldn't understand the storyline at all, has anyone else been watching it?). she knelt over a birthing ball, puffed a bit and out it popped. Very nice.

Dot and Mrs D, I have bad heartburn too and am 5'7 so it's not to do with being short. It goes away completely after the birth. it's horrible isn't it? gaviscon just doesn't work for me.

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 08:02

Well done Lucy. How's everyone else? Fennel, when is/was your due date again? Dolbear - a PUB! Surely not

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2004 08:31

LucyJones - Big congratulations. Going to check out the childbirth thread now

Fennel · 05/04/2004 08:38

lucyjones, congratulations!
looking forward to reading the birth story.

HD, my due date is next Monday 12 april. Those early contractions just gave everyone the impressing I was imminent. Could be another 3 weeks yet....

But it's first day of my maternity leave, so am off shopping and cafe-hopping this morning. In the rain.

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 08:47

You've done well working so close, Fennel. I finished last Weds, but it hasn't been that relaxing yet as we've had people in finishing work on the house. Got a midwife coming today to talk about homebirth - things are still a bit chaotic, hope she's not too judgemental!

dolbear · 05/04/2004 08:55

ah , not to worry , just tell her that it is always like it ! tee hee
yes peeps a PUB and it was great !
suffering from sleep deprevation on a large scale today , feel I will ditch the rasberry tea for coffee today , have caught dh's cold , so now on top of the 'minor ailments ' i can not breath !
