Toots · 03/04/2004 14:14

Sorry! Just realised I've barged into a sex and cake discussion amongst old friends. Sorry. May all your little angels wing their way out very soon. I'll be off now. Sorry.

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 14:53

Hey Toots, Don't worry I have only been posting for the last two weeks!! It's just I have been on maternity leave and I've been posting non-stop, hence the jibberish! Join in!! It's pretty trivial though - you will notice.

I like Ewan or Euan. My family is Irish, which is why I suggested Eoin. You don't want to know how I want to spell Rory!!

Lesley76 · 03/04/2004 15:05

Hey Toots, you are very welcome!! we are all bored, sore, frustrated (except Fennel tee hee) and looking for distractions...........

Our Rory is actually a Ruiridh but i couldn't be bothered explaining to everyone how you pronounce it! How do the Irish spell it?

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 15:17

Rhuadhri is Irish. We know we are having a girl which is just as well because this was causing a few arguements between dh and I. I really would like this spelling but dh didn't want the child growing up with a difficult spelling.
I have a Gaelic name and have had this all my life but personally, it doesn't bother me. I would rather be different!!

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 15:18

I did't mean to point out that i have had a Gaelic name all my life - Doh!!
I meant I have trouble with people saying and spelling it all my life!!

Fennel · 03/04/2004 18:08

I like Nathaniel/Nat

Euan/Ewan is not seen as weird these days in England. everyone knows of Ewan McGregor etc. and Euan Blair.

Would like to post for suggestions for dd3's middle name but it gets too cryptic. We have the first and last names sorted but can't decide on anything that goes in between.

rampant weekend is slowing down, I get too tired in the evenings but hope to gear up again in the morning. have to say neither dp or I are frustrated now! not sure it will work but at least it's fun trying.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 18:17

I find I have got better during the day, but like you Fennel I get tired in the evenings.
The cake is out of the oven and I have to say I am quite chuffed!! I have never made a carrot cake before.
I am just waiting for it to cool so I can put cream cheese icing on it. Yummy!
I think Good Will Hunting is on tonight, I have never seen it before - anyone else??
I can't help but ask - Anyone contracting yet? Not even a slight twinge? Go on, you know you want to...

emmagee · 03/04/2004 18:53

More of the same only stronger.... was really sure that today was the day, another sleepless night, felt stronger 'period pains' on and off. Saturday mornings I go to Ante natal yoga, was tempted not to go, but knew if I didn't go they would all think I had given birth and it takes place at the hospital where I am having the baby, so took my notes too! All quietened down again although some of the poses were a challenge with a rock hard bump! Tried to sleep this afternoon whilst dh took kids out but mind racing and my heart was banging away so hard I thought it was going to come out! Now, putting kids to bed, more back (and front) ache, just hoping either for some action or for it all to go away! It is getting demoralising now!

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 19:16

I know what you mean emmagee.
Lets hope you get some action soon
I wasn't prepared for how depressing it can get towards the end. It's the evening coming and I can feel my tummy tightening again like last night. I don't know whether it's fluid retention or contractions but it's damned uncomfortable. And a sleepless night again for me too, I fear!
I am cross with myself too. My impatience got the better of me and I iced my cake too soon. Now it's dripping off the cake.
I think it can wait til tomorrow now.
When are you due emmagee?

dot1 · 03/04/2004 19:29

Fennel - you have my complete and utter admiration! I can only collapse onto the bed - literally - don't move until the next wee - usually in about 1 1/2 hours time, and then roll off, wee and collapse back again - not very attractive..!!

Names are so tricky - we've got Dylan or Jack, but then thought of Harry, which we both love. And it's Megan if it's a girl - I'm pushing for Matilda as a middle name, but dp's not so sure!

How about Jake/Jack/Luke? All a bit standard, but only 1 syllable...

So, needless to say I'm still here with not a sign of baby - the odd pain this morning but I'm learning not to get excited - am going to be in complete shock when it's finally real... We went to supermarket this morning, but I had permission to look round John Lewis instead - hurrah! V. frustrating though when I found I couldn't get round more than about 1/4 of it..! Had to keep sitting down and had lots of people staring at me - in horror - my bump really is quite obscene now!!

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 21:11

Goodnight Ladies! I am going now, dh is complaining he has become a mumsnet widower!!!
Hope you all sleep well.

emmagee · 03/04/2004 22:03

the 18th MrsD, I had convinced myself it wouldn't be 'til the end of the month as the other two were so late, that's why all this early activity is even more frustrating! Anyway we have a family of 5 arriving for lunch tomorrow, so lots to keep me occupied, for now though I am dragging myself away from the lovely Kevin Spacey in American Beauty and heading for some rest, if not sleep!

Toots · 03/04/2004 22:19

Thank you, you are most hospitable. Going off to bed myself and wishing you the restful nights you deserve.

handlemecarefully · 03/04/2004 23:33

Blimey, I don't log on for a couple of days then struggle to catch up on all the messages - aren't we are prolific lot!

Hello Toots!

..And Dot - sympathies that it hasn't happened for you yet...

Udar / Chuffed - I'm off to read your thread on childbirth soon, now you've whetted my appetite.

Dh thinks I ought to slow down a bit. I took 20 month old dd to a theme park on Friday (there is one about 2 miles from us) and attempted the child friendly roller coaster ride (it's relatively sedate - doesn't go completely upside down), but to my horror had to disembark before the ride began because the safety bar wouldn't close over my prodigious bump! very embarassing since we were in the front 'car' so all the other 'riders' behind us got to witness daft pregant woman sent on her way. When I told dh I got a ticking off for even considering a roller coaster ride.

dot1 · 04/04/2004 01:20

HMC - what are you like?!! I know we're all getting desperate to give birth, but I don't think even I'd try a roller coaster!!

So, it's 1.15am and I can't sleep - had a couple of pains in bed and have got all excited - of course they've disappeared now and I'm wide awake... (will suffer for this at 7am when ds wakes up his usual bouncy self!). Am going a bit insane with the waiting - was never very patient and being a manager in 'real life', I hate not being able to 'manage' this situation!!

Never mind, busy day today - seeing my Mum and dp's parents - it's weird at the moment as we hadn't made any social plans from now on, but now find ourselves with nothing to do and no-one to see! So, we're bugging our parents and will at least get fed and watered...

Right, I'll go 'cos I'm wittering - lots of surfing to do and then hopefully some sleep...

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 10:47

Morning Ladies,
I gather theres a piece in the Sunday Times today about Mumsnet. Theres a link on the Sunday Times thread posted by Backduck if you don't buy the paper btw.
I have actually had a good night, despite my fears! I went to bed contracting (after gazing at Kevin spacey too), which hasn't happened happened in a week. Maybe it was Kevin Spacey or dh tapping my bump and saying to it, "Knock Knock! You can come out now. I am ready!"
Anyway, I think we were both a little surprised to wake up in bed together this morning feeling rested.
It's a nice day out too, but I feel too large. It's doesn't take long before my enthusiasm for being out and about begins to wane. And like you dot1, we have no plans for anything after this date, so we find ourselves staring at an empty calendar. Parents, unfortunate;y, live 250 miles away.

Lesley76 · 04/04/2004 11:42

Morning everyone! Glad to hear some of us got some sleep. Mrs D - I have to say I was a little surprised to read that you woke up in bed this morning with Kevin Spacey and you both felt rested!! Hmmmmmm

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 12:08

I think that bit might have been wishful thinking Lesley. That or I was still dreaming when I logged on this morning!!

Lesley76 · 04/04/2004 12:17

Though he is quite cute - watched The Shipping News a few nights ago. As i'm too old and fat and tired to go out anywhere in the evening. Just stay at home, watch DVDs and eat chocolate.

Have invented a new pregnancy symptom. Supermarket online order arrived last night and discovered I had ordered six yes 6 boxes of malteasers instead of one. Have searched the pregnancy books but can find no reference to this problem. Could it be caused by the carpal tunnel syndrome?

MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 12:24

No I think that's the wishful thinking thing kicking in again!!!
Didn't you say you were 9 1/2 stone pre pg? Old and fat? I don't think so....

Fennel · 04/04/2004 12:37

Maltesers, mmm. Two malteser easter eggs arrived for the dds yesterday. eating their chocolate (to save them from childhood obesity and tooth rot) is one of the pleasures of motherhood.

Rampant weekend is on the wane. Was fun but had enough now. And realistically, it's clearly not working! not a twinge.

Mrs D at risk of Lesley accusing us of domestic trivia :0 did you use low fat cream cheese to make your carrot cake topping? that makes it drip too much, it has to be full fat cheese.

Roller coaster sounds a good idea. perhaps there could be a mumsnet trip to alton towers for all the very pregnant ones! that could make a photo op to go with the sunday times article.

OP posts:
Fennel · 04/04/2004 12:41

Am determined to get control of my emoticons.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 12:45

thank you very much for that Fennel - I did use low fat cream cheese for my carrot cake topping. I was thinking that I should put it in the fridge after beating it next time!
Damn.. and I have already been to Asda this morning with dh!!I could have got some full fat cream cheese.
Then maybe .. I could choose the lower fat option and not put any icing on atall?
Oh I bought the Sunday Times to read the Mumnsnet article. It was a very good article, I think loads more people will sign up after reading it now.
Dot1 must asleep now, she must be tired. I have just been reading her thread from last night.

Fennel · 04/04/2004 12:53

Tee hee, am domestic goddess dispensing cooking hints as well as irresistible sex nymph!

isn't it great that noone here knows me or has seen a photo so can't disprove this!

Mrs D, what I've done in that situation is add the full fat icing on top of the dripping low fat icing!
I have no idea why I haven't experienced Udar's late pregnancy weight loss....

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 04/04/2004 12:59

Well I am 5'4" and a b'n'a kinda girl. The probability is I am carrying an 8lb baby now, it can't go any further down but it's still giving me HIDEOUS heartburn! When I have nothing else to complain about, I always have heartburn.
MW says it's because I am short.

I don't look like Nigella Lawson.
