could not watch the birth myself , as can not read any books on details , big coward !
programs I have had to miss over the last few weeks
ER ( SCBU ) episode
Heartbeat
Holby city
William and Mary
casulty
looks as if I will have to stick with the game shows !
running out of tv to watch !

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 09:01

IKWYM, there seems to have been loads of births on the tv recently - I watch Holby City and ER and have ended up in tears a few times!

dolbear · 05/04/2004 09:09

aye
I think that it is the old on a diet and all the adverts seem to be for chocolate , or having given up the ciggies , all I see is give up smoking adverts , which only serve to remind me that I have given up !

MrsDoolittle · 05/04/2004 09:36

They say pregnancy is the lastest fashion.

Hey dolbear, I was complaining about that same back pain last week, it comes and goes. Horrible! I have learnt now that as soon as it starts to come on I must lie down flat immediately - helps a bit!
Am very impressed with your trip to the pub, wonder if I did the same it might bring on labour?
I am feeling a bit like dot1 now. I am only 2 days overdue and this ain't funny anymore.

Congratulations Lucyjones - I shall check out the childbirth thread for details
Is that the second out of us April crowd?

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 09:41

Hey MrsD! I just emailed you (not stalking you, honest!)
Dot - how are you today?

dot1 · 05/04/2004 10:51

Hi - I'm fine - just flipping fine - i.e. NO PAINS AT ALL... It's coming to something when I'm desperate to be in pain..!

Now 6 days over - have got ante natal tomorrow and am expecting them to give me an induction date for next week.

I'm getting pains across my back now when I have strong Braxtons - which I'm taking as a good sign - any pain is good pain at this stage! Not v. nice though if it's like that when the proper contractions start - can see me running to the hospital with demands for an epidural..!

Nothing much else to report - I've been nowhere as exciting as a pub - my trip of the day consisted of going to get some cat litter (!), so cheered myself up by stopping to get a magazine and some wine gums - am going to make a coffee and settle down to watch ER repeats on Sky 1 - now that's what I call a good morning's work!

Thanks for the Eastenders update Mrs D!

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 13:32

Well folks, MrsD and I have just met up IRL (in real life) - we discovered we're not very far away from each other and she came to visit me here at my house (still feel a bit guilty about that, as I'm not as far gone in weeks as she is). Anyway, I'm pleased to report that she is as lovely as she sounds on here - oh, and we couldn't stop talking...

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 13:35

Dot, hang on in there...
And MrsD, thanks again for the flowers

MrsDoolittle · 05/04/2004 13:47

Oh Thank you Hewlettsdaughter, it was nice to get out of the house.
I look forward to us meeting up again soon.

dot1 · 05/04/2004 15:29

awww - that's nice! Meanwhile, I've thought twice now (this morning and yesterday evening) that my waters had broken - but it seems I'm just producing more 'stuff' (sorry ladies - a bit yucky but you know what I mean) which gives me a shock when I stand up..! I'm hoping this is a good sign????! (I'll hope for any old sign at this point..!). My Mum and MIL are phoning at least once a day - they've both just rang within 5 minutes of each other - to see how things are going, which is lovely, but getting a bit annoying when all we can say is that nothing's happening. They should know by now that the minute something does happen I'll be phoning the world!!

I've got my 41 week appointment in the morning and I'm expecting them to give me an induction date for next week - kind of don't mind now, especially having read the positive induction thread in the Childbirth section - although I absolutely hate having internals (I know, I'll have to be prepared for lots - but I was hoping that I'd be able to cope with having them once I'm in labour) and am not keen on the whole pessary thing... My other worry re: being induced next week is that it'll be really busy just after the Easter weekend, as they won't want to induce anyone over Easter!

Oh dear - am I obsessing too much...???!

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 16:23

Waters can leak out, as well as gush suddenly, can't they? I'd take it as a good sign, dot
Good luck for your appointment tomorrow!

dolbear · 05/04/2004 16:51

absolutely , good luck ! hope all goes well ( know what you mean on the leakage front )
well done to Luce
feeling the preasure of the cold now , yuck , mind you better with the baby in than out !
can not get my head aroundf the whole labour -pain thing it just seems such a long time ! ( 1st timer starting to freak out ) ,can not even look at the pictures in the mags ,
and another thing why is it that all the piccies in the books ie miraim stodards all the women are completey starkers ? I do not need to see that !

Lesley76 · 05/04/2004 20:51

Hi everyone, hope you are all well ( or as well as can be expected under the circumstances). Commiserations to those of you who are feeling crap. All my funny pains etc seem to have stopped, so I assume they were just cramps or my body's reaction to the baby suddenly turning to head down after months of being transverse. Have told baby he can't come yet as still not finished work on house. Also we don't have a name yet (thanks for the suggestions BTW).

I am in complete denial about the whole labour & birth bit. Sounds like you Dolbear & Mrs D

Have had extremely bad day ( family stuff not related to preg or baby) so now eating malteasers by the bagful.Dh being wonderful , although not providing R S as Enterprise is on TV

Lesley76 · 05/04/2004 20:54

OOPs forget, many congratulations LucyJones.

Dolbear, DONT ASK why the women are naked. If you do, people tell you that you will be in so much pain that you won't even NOTICE you are naked in front of a room full of strangers. Which is SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not reassuring.......

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 21:00

Sorry you have had a bad day Lesley
Re labour/birth, I don't seem to be able to focus on anything else at the moment. Not really thinking about what the result will be (ie a baby!) - I remember I was like this last time too. Wish I had some maltesers now...

hewlettsdaughter · 05/04/2004 21:02

I was going to say something about not caring about being naked etc when I had ds - but glad I didn't now

MrsDoolittle · 05/04/2004 21:14

Hi Ladies, I am experiencing serious 'discomfort' at the moment. Fingers crossed.... like you dot1, dolbear and everyone else for that matter, the waiting is killing me.
I am getting very ratty with dh, I'm just not getting enough sympathy.
Infact, I am getting more from the dog who is following me around EVERYWHERE.

dot1 · 05/04/2004 22:03

Nothing much to say really, except I'm still here obsessing, but aiming to go to bed and actually get some sleep - am very tired today... Lots of horrible backache today but not much else - hardly any Braxtons and no more 'leakage', so definitely not my waters! My fingers and feet have swollen up quite suddenly - will let them know tomorrow, but at least I'll be getting my blood pressure checked.

Sleep well all!

Lesley76 · 06/04/2004 04:41

Hi all, hope for your sakes there is no one else awake at this time! Not that I have anything wrong with me, just pregancy insommnia. OOOhhh Dot, not sure if sudden swelling of hand and feet is a good sign - don;t you think you should call MW to check??? ( what do I know of course)

Mrs D - hope your discomfort has either gone or turned into some action - you must be really fed up and this has been on and off for days now.

I have to say this painful and tedious on off stuff for weeks is NOT my idea of late pregnancy. i had planned just to be relaxed and glowing, then suddenly tell my Dh " I think its time", then serenely pop off to hospital & deliver a few hours later...

Dolbear, did you get any sleep with your cold?

Lesley76 · 06/04/2004 09:01

Good morning again everyone. I'm still awake, been up since 4am. Not even doing anything useful like contracting. How are the rest of you today??

hewlettsdaughter · 06/04/2004 10:25

You must be knackered Lesley! I had a few nights like that recently but have slept better for the last 2 or 3.
Have just had my midwife home visit today (it was going to be yesterday but was changed to today). Two midwives came, and were very supportive of our plan to have a homebirth, so I am feeling quite positive at the mo. Baby is 3/5 engaged, apparently.

MrsDoolittle · 06/04/2004 10:43

Morning!!
Nothing to report, I am afraid, just these period type pains and awful back pain now and again.
Funny old night really, I keep waking up and asking myself if I feel like anything is happening. Then I groan a bit hoping to elicit some sympathetic response from dh.
Naaaaaa he's snoring of course!!!
A parcel arrived from NZ this morning - looks like dh's mother has gone mad in a baby shop!!
Oh well it's late morning and I am still padding around the house in my dressing gown. I guess I ought to have a bath...

dolbear · 06/04/2004 11:01

good morning peeps
did get some sleep ta , only kept waking myself up by snoring !
off into town with girlfriend for sn hr or so 2day - she is a teacher on hols ,
cold is stuffy and achy - nice
does anyone have a cse of the disappearing bump it seems everytime a wake up it has got smalller !
sos to hear from all those who are suffering
does this mean we have to be naked too then ?

emmagee · 06/04/2004 11:27

Mrs D sounds like you had a similar night to me. I REALLY thought that this time it was going to get going! It was a full moon last night and there are often peaks in the number of deliveries around a full moon, so we may all still get some action soon.

On the naked subject, I think you'll find it pretty hard to give birth with your clothes on! With my first I was wearing a vest top and baggy trousers, then took off trousers at hospital. I just remember my mother arriving in the middle of it all - rather unexpectedly - and I did think I must have looked pretty strange, kneeling on all fours, bum in the air, just wearing a vest! It troubled me for some time that she should see me like that! For the next I was wearing a sarong, which the midwife kept worrying about getting messy!! Also if you intend to use a pool for pain relief, which I do, you won't be wearing your swimming costume! and finally, (sorry this has become a bit of a soapbox!!) you get bloody hot, it's hard work and sometimes the sensation of anything on your skin can make you very irritable.

I'm off to drink my third cup of vile Raspberry Leaf tea and then try and blow some eggs, it seems harder this year, I don't seem to have much puff, but maybe it'll force the little blighter out!

Fennel · 06/04/2004 11:29

hello all

I was awake from 4am too Lesley, similar case of pregnancy insomnia.

I don't mind being naked in front of strangers as long as they're all naked too! I DO mind being naked, writhing and moaning in pain in front of loads of fully dressed medics! AAGH. it's just not dignified.
