Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
M2T · 02/04/2004 12:13

I think it's incredibly selfish of you to not go to into labour by now! I finish work today for 10days and you will have delivered by the time I get back!

Lesley76 · 02/04/2004 12:26

Mrs D - my vote is for not going to Tescos. Or baking. but you knew that anyway, didn't you? You will just feel more crap after shopping - its so depressing when you are waddling around.

Why don't you give me a rational definition of rampant for my Dh - you are a philosopher aren't you? That WOULD be useful.

Why do you think you'll have to be induced? you're not that late, are you? I understand the fear of being induced BTW, not that I'm needle phobic, just scared of the pain and having to be in hospital even longer....

Dont worry about the trivia - don't you see, all our lives have descended into trivia. A few weeks or months ago we all had exciting careers and discussed fascinating topics like politics or international relations or world debt or the arts or science. I bet most of us on this thread have at least one postgraduate degree! Now we are proud of managing to get round the shops or through the night without peeing. We discuss our sex lives and our toilet habits with complete strangers on the net...........

Soon we will be pouring vitriol on other women who choose to feed their babies differently from us, or use different nappies or car seats. Or choose names we don't like. Or stop sterilising toys etc before we do. Or follow/don't follow routines. Or believe in a different parenting guru. Or use/don't use dummies. Or dress their babies in gender stereotyped colours, buy boy/girl toys. Etc etc etc

Don't know what it is about parenthood, you can lose all sense of perspective - have you READ some of the stuff on this site!!!!!!!

At least loaf tins are harmless

MrsDoolittle · 02/04/2004 13:34

Funny you should say all that Lesley. This week has seen me lurking around the website and this new world of parenthood is beginning to hit home! I think I'll stay out of some of the ruff stuff though, not my style!!
I noticed you on the June thread the other day, they were obviously impressed by our cyber activity!!
MW has just left.My check was all normal. Baby has grown some more!!!!! It was estimated at 7 1/2lb two and a half weeks ago!! Uhmmm. And the head is well and truly engaged, theres no budging it!
The thing is, will the trip to Tescos (although tedious) encourage things along? And if so, should my waters break in Tescos, will they give me loads of freebies? And....another question.. Has anybody ever contemplated what it would be like going up to customer service and saying "Errr excuse me, I've got wet pants, I think my waters have broken!"? Is that how it happens? Or is it not far more likely you would slink home thinking "Ohhh heck!"
These are the philosophical questions employing my tiny little mind at the moment.
Oh and I'm on to the definition of rampant Lesley!

MrsDoolittle · 02/04/2004 13:38

Oh M2T, you'll miss loads. Aren't there a few of us due over Easter?
Nevermind, hopefully their will be lots of good news to greet you when you get back to work.
Thanks for your e-mail btw.

M2T · 02/04/2004 13:49

I'll probably check in from home before we leave for holiday on Monday.... hopefully you'll be at least 4cm by then.

Fennel · 02/04/2004 17:17

Definition of Rampant (from my dictionary): "Rearing, standing in profile, high-spirited, fierce, unrestrained, unchecked in growth or prevalence"

It sounds a bit tiring to me. can I change my mind and have a takeaway in front of Friends instead?

my trivia for today , had to drive dm to surgery to docs , cos df is complete incosiderate sod !!

dot1 · 02/04/2004 19:41

Hello - I'm back home..! blood pressure behaving itself, so no baby yet... I'm getting beyond fed up now - having convinced myself it was going to be early, I'm now completely convinced they're going to have to induce me mid-April - I can't ever imagine it coming out! Having said that, I can't believe it can stay in there - it's soooooo HUGE and heavy! Feel like I'm going to pop any second - tummy button is disgustingly sticky-outy now, and the shape of bump is just too weird - it's just NOT NATURAL!!!

Come on everyone else - we need more babies on this thread - Mrs D and Fennel - it's down to you!

PS - rampant sex - are you kidding??!!

Lesley76 · 02/04/2004 20:18

Well i've had a busy afternoon, doing exactly what i told Mrs D NOT to do ie going shopping. i just needed a few last minute things.......

In the middle of Safeway, Dh called on the mobile. I stopped to answer & lean against a wall (as you do). Passer by overheard me telling him i was exhausted and interrupted conversation with "Are you OK dear?", then concluded I was in labour and called over 2 members of staff to help me. Had to hang up phone, leaving Dh believing waters had broken in the supermarket (just as Mrs D hoped!!!). Kind passer by then regaled me with story about her friend's daughter who just had her first baby yesterday "He was only 5lbs but she was still stiched from end to end". As you can imagine, this made me feel much better..............

Big fuss ensued, chairs , first aider, glass of water , shopping carried out to car etc etc. All very kind. Except there was nothing wrong with me apart from embarassment

Have told Dh about the plans for the weekend and he nearly had a coronary at Fennel's definition of rampant. He wants to know if it will bring on labour if i just chase after him around the house. Seemed amazed at the idea that some men would look forward to such a thing. Of course I find this deeply insulting...Mrs D and Fennel, you are obviously married to MUCH younger men ( than mine i mean!!).

Lesley76 · 02/04/2004 20:21

Dot - so pleased you are back home Ok. About the rampant sex - look at it this way - do you WANT to be induced in 2 weeks???? I know , its all too weird and completely unatural but we are desperate here............

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 09:59

Morning Ladies!! I am maoning at this point I am afraid. I went to Tescos in the end, as dh had appealed to my better nature and ended up doing what I really shouldn't have done but do anyway - picking up a basket and buying too much to carry. So struggled like an idiot waddling round the aisles. Is it me or do people stare?
Well I got home and my enthusiasm for this cake evaporated, an ache in my back which had started as a niggle was really beginning to play up now. So I went for a lie down and was woken up at 6 when dh came in.
The annoying thing is, this backache hasn't gone away!!! And I haven't really experienced it fully throughout my pregnancy - even sitting here now it hurts. It's not in my lumbar region where I thought I would be, it's between my shoulder blades, behind my ribcage.
Anyway, dh and I thought we might help settle it last night with well, you know... that was lovely but my back still ached and I didn't get much sleep and I also had this dull ache in my pelvic floor. And my tummy is so tight, that aches too.
(I did warn you all I was moaning!!)
Well dh woke up this morning looking forward to the next installation in the 'timetable' but I am afraid at that point I wasn't up for anything and NO I definately do NOT want to be induced!!!
So I am bit like you dot1 only whingier (if that's a word).
But Fennels trip to the supermarket did make me laugh!

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 10:03

Ooops Sorry!! I mean Lesley's trip to the Supermarket. Confusion this morning!!

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 10:03

Ooops Sorry!! I mean Lesley's trip to the Supermarket. Confusion this morning!!

Fennel · 03/04/2004 10:10

It was Lesley's trip to the supermarket, I have been otherwise occupied ;0

Am having a surprisingly enjoyable weekend! Think of it this way, you can encourage the baby out, work on your pelvic floor exercises, work on Optimal Fetal Positioning (I was reading the thread on that yesterday) and keep partner happy all at once....

Dot1, it all sounds very tedious for you. Most first time babies are born in the week or so after the official due date, but I know that knowing that doesn't really help at this stage. DD1 was a week late and I found it so frustrating.

Oh well have had some breakfast - now feeling marginally better. I've been telling dh about our discussions on this thread - he can't believe we talk about sex!!! Ha ha
Anyway, have sent him on a few errands this morning after extacting as much sympathy as possible. Am now going to have a long soak in the bath. He will back in time for some important football match this afternoon. I AM going to bake this cake.
Fennel, sounds like you are having fantastic fun, hopefully you won't have to wait so long as this is your second baby.
I am due today!!!!!(For those of you who haven't seen me post it 15 times already!!!)

Lesley76 · 03/04/2004 11:40

Morning everyone! Sorry you are feeling so grotty Mrs D. Very impressed you are still baking for that ungrateful hsband of yours! As well as providing other entertainment.

Fennel i'm very jealous to read about your romantic weekend. I thought you were going to watch Friends???? Usually I'm chasing my long suffering DH around the bed but have been feeling REALLY sore down there since Thursday - I assume its baby's head engaged pressing on everything. I don't feel like rampant anything. Though if it works for you this weekend i will force myself........don't like curry.........

How's it going, everyone else - dolbear, Lucy, LauraKim, Dot1, HD, HMC ?? Can't keep up with the exciting trips to the supermarket etc? Have we worn you out with our trivia????

Fennel · 03/04/2004 11:54

Lesley, I did watch Friends with a takeaway curry last night. but this morning have been more energetic.

talking of trivia, I have been picking up tips from the thread on how to clean your bath mat and am going to try the hints posted there - how's that for trivial?

Bluecow and Metrobaby, are you still around?

OP posts:
Lesley76 · 03/04/2004 12:30

Ok you can tell I?m really bored now.........This poor little baby I'm carrying does still not have a name. So I?m asking you for ideas. Now, as you all know, this is a very sensitive and personal subject (compared to say toilet habits or sex) so I apologise in advance for anything I might write that offends anyone.

We need a boy's name, preferably with 1 or 3 or more syllables. We have a two-syllable surname that begins with L (so no names that end or begin with L). Baby's middle name (my surname) also has 2 syllables. So trying to avoid te-dum te-dum te-dum ! Are you following this so far?
Our other children have pretty traditional names - James, Grace and Elizabeth. So we need a name that goes with their names. IYKWIM

We can?t use any of the following as they are already taken by brothers or nephews - David, Craig, Stewart, Jack, Ronnie, Grant, Alistair, Jonathan, Andrew, Scott, Sam, Mark, Rory.

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 12:34

Bath did the world of good! However, all the phonecalls of "Has it arrived yet?" have started!!! Even though I have told them that we shall let them know as soon a we do! Hell I'm grumpy!
Dh is watching football. I am preparing myself for my cake baking excercise - now there is trivia!! Have bought a hand mixer!!!!
What else? Oh yes, it's Saturday (maybe the last with just two of us) and the weather is dullish but dry. :0
Where is everyone else?

MrsDoolittle · 03/04/2004 12:42

How about Nathaniel (dh doesn't like it, but I do because I fancy Nat Parker i.e inspector Lynley), Jake, Geordan (oops 2 syllables), Eoin or Owen, Anthony?
Let me think....

Lesley76 · 03/04/2004 13:18

Funny you should say Owen or Eoin because I was thinking about Eaun or Ewan ( Scottish equivalent because we are). I know its two syllables though. Frank opinions please from all you English folk out there ? is Ewan too Scottish? As in too weird for English speakers outside Scotland? Will anyone south of Watford not know hwo to say it?

Hmmmmm never thought of Nathaniel - it?s unusual but not weird IYKWIM. Also Nat is cool teenaged boy name.

Toots · 03/04/2004 14:06

I like Ewan. I am south of London and my feeling is that it wouldn't cause too much trouble pronunciation wise. Actually really like it. I know one, a grown up and he's Scots.
