Holy shit! This can't happen, can it?!

I'm still a bit in shock so sorry if I ramble.

I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, showed a viable pregnancy with a heartbeat in my right horn ( bicornulate uterus with septum).

As I have a dodgy womb I was scanned and also 3d scanned by the consultant, everything looked normal.

I have just had another scan at 8 weeks, healthy 8 week old baby....and a 5 week pregnancy sack in my left horn!

I appear to have gotten pregnant, twice, at different times. Apparently this has only happened to 11 people before.

And it add another complication in to the mix a THIRD possible pregnancy was spotted, but it could be a fibroid or a molar pregnancy ( bit of a difference!) so have to see the consultant again in 9 days.

My heads spinning, I need vodka, but I guess I'll just have to settle for baileys cheesecake

Don't suppose anyone knows anything about this? Or if one of the 11 people are on here that would be great!

Had 4 miscarriages before dd so am very happy to be pregnant again.

I was kind of hoping for a straightforward pregnancy this time!

I've heard of it before but Wow! The time I heard of it, I think the babies were born by c section when the eldest was 36weeks so the youngest needed to stay in hospital for checks for a few days. Luckily its not a massive difference in dates though.

(you will be able to sell your story to a magazine in return for a years supply of nappies )

Omg wow! I'm sure I read something similar in a magazine years ago but no personal experience of it. At least the dates are quite close together, I can imagine it being a bit of a nightmare if they were a couple of months apart.

I think it's pretty normal to feel as shocked as you do! Have you spoken to anyone else about it? Not sure about vodka being the best thing but treating yourself to a grapefruit and twiglets sounds like a good idea

Poor dd, she's only 1 and 3 months. She's not going to know what hit us!

I went to school with twins conceived a month apart. One was born a month early but to us they were just the twins; didn't realise they were quite that special at the time!

Will they be classes as twins or just siblings?!

I'm not sure to be honest.

I'm now listed as a twin pregnancy though so I assume they are classed as twins.

Either that or they don't have a word yet for my odd offspring

I know it's only 3/4 weeks difference but I am starting to worry about premature labour.

3/4 weeks can mean quite a big difference to the outcome can't it?

Must stop worrying until it comes to it.

I'm sure you'll be giving a consultant who knows more about it? I doubt they will be happy with normal mw monitoring, so might be worth writing down any and all questions you have?

Congratulations!

They will be non-identical twins, as they have to have come from two eggs (and two sperm) if they were conceived separately.

I would imagine they will monitor you closely (as they would any twin pregnancy), with particular attention to te relative sizes. They will want to delay labour as long as possible so the smaller twin can grow, but how long they let you go will depend on the health of each baby and your health too.

I would imagine that the decision about whether to deliver vaginally or by CS will be made depending on the effect the bicornate uterus has on deliver (you'll know this from last time), the position of the babies and their health nearer delivery time. Your consultants and midwives will weigh each up, but the age difference really shouldn't make a difference other than the size difference (which they'll be used to because it is common in twins anyway).

How very special to have conceived twins like this! I would think you've got every reason to be positive because the age gap is nice and small :)

Layla001 they will be twins. Non-identical twins are just two siblings, conceived from two eggs and two sperm, who happen to have been carried by their mother at the same time. So there two will be twins as much as any other non-identical twins :)

Non-identical twins are no more genetically alike than any siblings. They just shared a womb :)

Does this mean then - just trying to get my head round the biology of it all - that it is possible for one mother to simultaneously carry two babies by two different fathers ?
