I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

khali that is great news glad something is finally working!

starrynight123 · 17/06/2014 15:02

WOOHOOO - just got my C-section date: 1st August!!! ONLY 6 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!

Can't tell you how happy I am!!!!!! Terrified that she will come early, mind you, because I'm so scared of natural childbirth (anxiety/panic issues).

Lottiedoubtie · 17/06/2014 16:56

Starry that's so exciting! Smile. 6 weeks, totally doable!

Kali I'm relieved to hear that the steroids are having some effect, fingers crossed things look up a bit from now on.

Meerka · 17/06/2014 17:25

oh that's great starry! the end is near! :)

Fraggle31 · 17/06/2014 18:00

kali so relieved to hear you're getting better :)

living glad you're home again!

starry yay to C section date - must be a weight off your mind having it planned out now

AFM - good day today in that I haven't vomited, but bad day in that I don't seem to be able to stay upright long enough to do anything other than pop downstairs for a drink or go to the toilet before I get really bad nausea.....it feels quite motion sickness like as lying down seems to solve the issue....very weird sensation.

Sorry to anyone I've missed!

starrynight123 · 18/06/2014 08:38

Thank you!!! I'm so happy!! Honestly, I never thought there would be an actual end in sight, but there finally is!! I feel as though I can try and enjoy the rest of this pregnancy as best I can because it is so near the end Grin Never, ever thought I'd say that! But, let's see how it goes...

fraggle that motion sickness sounds very, very familiar. It was frustrating because when I was lying completely still, I felt almost 'normal' and started thinking, 'maybe I'm getting better...?' But, then, as soon as I started moving, that was it, the nausea/sickness kicked in again :-/

Meerka · 18/06/2014 10:02

oh lovey, starry. have you got everything ready for the Arrival? :)

Fraggle31 · 18/06/2014 10:37

Thank you starry - I was beginning to think I was abit of a weirdo!! It's eased today so not as bad, but it's kinda scary when it does happen! Are you all ready for bubba? Only 6 weeks to go you know ;)

LucindaE · 18/06/2014 11:01

Kalidasa Thank goodness for that, I was very anxious!
Great news Starry. Glad of Everyone's good news, and sorry for anyone who feels particularly bad at the moment.
xx

meerka and fraggle Eeek!! I know... so soon!! Still can't quite believe it!! I'm going to have to get a move on and start getting all the bits and bobs ready for her arrival... haven't even got a pram(!) It's SO nice to feel excited for a change - it's the first time I've felt that way since finding out we were having a baby!!

fraggle you're definitely not a weirdo! I'm glad it's eased for you today :-)

Lottiedoubtie · 18/06/2014 13:15

Fraggle definitely not a weirdo. When I told my doctor it was just like motion sickness he said, that's good then, just don't move.

Wtf? For like the next seven months??

It's crap but normal IME of this horrible condition! It does get better eventually I promise!

Meerka · 18/06/2014 14:59

heh lottie that is kind of funny ... "just don't move" ! two of the meds commonly prescribed, stemetil and phenergan ( promethazine and prochlorperazine) are actually anti-travel-sickness meds too :) how on earth the hormones that cause HG affect the inner ear I have no idea ...

kalidasa · 18/06/2014 17:47

Well I am finally at home, feeling pretty wobbly but not vomiting at least. Have lost nearly 5kg in 3 weeks.

They are scaling down the steroids rapidly over 10 days, and I'm worried I'm just going to start vomiting again below a certain level. Any changes to the steroid protocol have to be made by a consultant so there is no short-cut to going back to the hospital if that happens, though they did say in the circs the early pregnancy unit would try to admit me quickly before I got too bad if that did happen, given how quickly I go downhill once it starts. Meerka and anyone else who was/is on steroids - how did it work out for you? did you end up on them for a while? how early did you start?

I am using this vomit-free lull to try to sort out the ghastly ondansetron constipation, as nothing has shifted for a fortnight. Not really a major problem for the week that I ate absolutely nothing! But needs addressing now. Have already failed on the suppositories so attempting the max dose of Movicol. If I manage that without chucking it will be a miracle.

Fortunately they have taken me off the other drugs - cyclizine and stemetil - as they were doing nothing and just giving me horrible side effects. I've got to inject myself with anti-clotting stuff every day for a fortnight though.

Eight weeks today! I really hope we have just come through the absolute lowest point, but time will tell.

Sorry that I still haven't been able to catch up on the thread properly, hope everyone is doing OK.

Georgebythesea · 18/06/2014 17:58

Starry Wow that's great news..hope the next few weeks go quickly for you.Not long till you have your baby in your arms now.
Kali Glad to hear your out of hospital and hope things continue to improve.
Lucinda no I never have found a solution to the horrendous taste and excess saliva.Sweets just make it worse.Tried lemon water, bicarb, soda etc and all relief v temporary,ie about 5 mins later it comes back. It's so horrible and nausea inducing.Just want to get to the meeting baby part and have this horrible illness over!

starrynight123 · 18/06/2014 18:41

George bleurgh, I hate that taste and excess saliva too... so vile. I sometimes find that sour sweets work - like Haribo tangfantastic or these new ones I bought by mistake on an Ocado shop called 'Bilar' sour mini marshmallow cars (I know they sound weird, and they certainly look weird, but they work!), oh and liquorice. But, apparently you shouldn't eat too much liquorice in pregnancy. I only found that out when I'd been eating liquorice because it was one of the few things I could stomach... oh well, at least there was hardly any actual liquorice in the 'liquorice'!

kalidasa I'm SO glad you are back home and I also hope you are over the worst of it. Amazing to think you've already got to 8wks! Brilliant!!!

Oklahoma · 19/06/2014 09:14

20 week scan today! Finally. Feel like have been in the wilderness forever. Am actually nearly 22 weeks but hey ho.

Kali thrilled you're hope but sucks you're feeling terrible. You have so much sympathy it's just not fair.

Will post more later after the scan, finally something to look forward to!! Just hope all is ok.

Fraggle31 · 19/06/2014 09:17

Good luck oklahoma :)

Georgebythesea · 19/06/2014 09:44

Oklahoma Hope all goes well.It all started to feel a bit more real(well more like a pregnancy then an awful illness) after my 20 week scan a few weeks ago and I started to get a bit excited.

LucindaE · 19/06/2014 11:43

Kail So glad you're out. You weathered it! I hope they are really careful about reducing the dose. Just dashing on to say, I think both Punkstar and Booboosto had steroid treatment, but not completely sure.
Okla Good luck with scan if I'm not too late. Family emergency, ill daughter (mother's instinct says not serious, though so no need to worry) back soon.
xx

Iworrymyselftosleep · 19/06/2014 11:59

Hello ladies

It's been a while since I was on these threads - at Christmas I was in hospital for HG and I took such strength from the support offered here. I'm now 32 weeks and still vomiting but under control just about with metaclopramide.

I was coming to ask if anyone has also been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I haven't put that much weight on (within a stone of pre pg weight and slowly losing weight again) yet baby is scanning above the 90th percentile. The glucose tolerance test confirmed it.

I guess I'm a little worried about how they'll manage it - diet control? I'm just about managing with bland carbs, which I understand to be the worst for diabetes and meds will only be an option if I stop puking. Plus of course, drug interactions... If anyone has this or any knowledge I would be very grateful for some advice...

Meerka · 19/06/2014 13:15

ouch, iworry, bad news :( I'm sorry but no experience myself ... hope someone has some good advice soon

lucinda sending good thoughts to your daughter, hope she's well soon.

Okal it's lovley to realise that you're at 20 weeks already! Nearly 22 is even better =). Hope it's a lovely scan.

kali I was not on steroids - it was one hell of a major fight to get so far as metoclopramide even, as lucinda says punkstar was def on them and I think booboo

Oklahoma · 19/06/2014 13:47

Grrr just lost my long post!

All good with the scan, no issues so feeling very relieved.

Yep, Meerka have been hanging around this thread for a loooong time now. Over half though now at least.

Iworry no experience sorry but I'm sure someone on the thread will. We seem to have most things covered between us!

Lucinda hope DD is ok.

Hi to everyone else. It's lovely to post something other than a moan for a change!

Lottiedoubtie · 19/06/2014 14:33

lucinda I echo, everyone else's thoughts, I hope your DD is ok.

okla so pleased for you that everything was ok at the scan Grin roll on the next 18 weeks for you, time started to speed up for me around this point so hope it does for you too.

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and have another monitoring scan

I was observed for my appraisal at work today, with my nightmare year tens, one stormed out... And somehow I still managed to get a 'good' with 'outstanding' features. Frankly at this point, and with those kids that'll bloody well do, more than happy with that!

starrynight123 · 19/06/2014 15:24

Oklahoma great news that all is well after the scan!

lottie good luck with your scan tomorrow. I'm sure it will all be fine :-) For me, the biggest worry is actually getting to the scan! Fantastic news about your appraisal at work - esp with hg! You're a superstar!

meerka how are things with you? How are you feeling these days?

Lucinda hope your daughter feels better soon. Thinking of you.

SassehMonsta · 19/06/2014 17:59

Just popping back to say thanks to everyone o the thread. I have got to the point in my pregnancy that I can start to enjoy it now, as the sickness is dying down (it:s not gone, but managed. We all have bad days). Without this thread I probably would still be sitting home feeling crap and not getting the help I needed, and probably crying myself to sleep still.

But there is hope, as people have said "This too shall pass" and I feel lucky enough to be someone for whom it has passed faster than I imagined.

Thank you all, for helping me realise I was not crazy, that I needed help, and that help is out there! Im going to keep checking in but probably posting less on thid thread, so good luck to you all!!! and fingers crossrd it stays away!

Sarah, 14+5wks
