Ugh - football. I hate it. I told dh that he couldn't watch it because bump hates it too and so it was 2 to 1 in favour of something else. He laughed but it didn't work.

florenceuk · 20/06/2004 14:18

Sorry to hear people are feeling ill again. I'm not too bad, suffering a bit from reflux - went out to dinner on Saturday, pigged out and had to sleep propped up to avoid it repeating on me! Have done no exercise except for waddling to shops...

It's too damn hot...just bought DS sprinkler thingy (as recommended by codswallop!) so hopefully he can entertain himself while I fan myself in the shade this pm. We have fans on every floor of the house going!

Tried to move DS into bed yesterday but he woke up at 1.30am completely disoriented, had to shift him back to cot. Then DH woke at 6am cos he was too hot. No wonder I am tired! Work tomorrow, at least I get to sit in airconditioned luxury.

beansprout · 20/06/2004 14:21

Dp loves football and is convinced that Bean is an England striker in the making, on the basis that I am being kicked a lot. Apparently these are the signs, and yes, part of it is the normal development of a baby, but this one is also clearly destined to be a footballer.

I have already declined the suggestion of naming db "Owen" (serious suggestion from dp).

geogteach · 20/06/2004 22:22

Been feeling rough for a couple of days, bad hay fever was causing 3-4 nose bleeds a day (including having to leave the pool on saturday during DS swimming lesson!) So I have now given in and started taking piriton which I was avoiding as it makes me drowsey -fell asleep at 8 pm last night!
otherwise ok got consultant appointment on Fri to decide if i'm allowed to push this one out.

BIBIBOO · 21/06/2004 13:35

Has anyone tried peppermint tea for nausea? Sickness still hasn't left me and midwife suggest it but I don't want to go buy a whole box and force myself to drink it if it's rubbish...

Thanks x

motherinferior · 21/06/2004 13:39

BBB - tried the fizzy ginger drink? It helped me. A bit.

piglit · 21/06/2004 13:50

I tried peppermint tea but it didn't help me. I think it's different for everyone. I know some people swear by those wrist band things but I found they made me feel worse! The things that helped me were ginger ale and lemonade.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

BIBIBOO · 21/06/2004 13:55

Yay! Ginger ale wins! I'm going to get some dinner time and drink it on the bench outside my office and pretend I'm one of the Famous Five

beansprout · 21/06/2004 16:33

I have always drunk loads of p/mint tea but can't face the stuff while preg! Am on the side of nice cold lemonade/ginger beer - and lashings of it!!

BIBIBOO · 21/06/2004 17:30

Okay! I'll be Anne, all I need now is a Timmy, a George, a Julian and a Dick - who's up for an adventure?

Sorry, getting acrried away now ...

piglit · 21/06/2004 18:47

Has anyone been to a chiroprator whilst pg? I always used to go (because of problems with my neck) but haven't been for months. However, I'm beginning to get really bad backache when I sit down at my desk so I called my chiropractor and they have someone who specialises in paediatric cases and apparently does a great job with pg women. I've booked an appointment for tomorrow morning and I can't wait.....

sooz31 · 21/06/2004 18:55

Not sure if this counts, but I went sailing last week and as a notoriously bad traveller those wrist things worked for me. Might be worth a try Bibiboo?

They were a bit tight round my chubby wrists though!

Bibiboo · 22/06/2004 12:42

I'm off to town on the weekend to get wrist bands, peppermint tea, ginger beer and a big bar of galaxy to cheer me up if they fail!
Much cooler here today, thankfully. How are you all this morning?

Turtle35 · 22/06/2004 14:59

Hi all - took me ages to catch up on the goings on! No work H&S in my office either and I work for an American Bank!! if anyone is gonna sue....to be honest my desk couldn't be better along with a big cut out of my desk for possible bumps - honestly we all have them.

Did anyone watch born to soon last night on channel 4? I wish I hadn't as it upset me and started my mind racing which I can't sleep at the best of times. I also think I might have a vaginal infection - I have been second guessing myself for a while as some days it's nothing and other days it's really unpleasant, I know we get extra discharge but it's more than that - Urggh wont go into details. However I had a swab done at the dr yesterday and will find out on Monday. Now I am scared it's Group B strep or vaginal bacteria and the baby will be born premature. I was explaining to DH that the chances are very slim for our little one to be born premature then I thought now that I have said that it will probably happen I am so ridiculous when it comes to superstition and not saying something in case it happens.

Can someone please tell me I am being silly and my baby will be born at 40 weeks no sooner!

piglit · 22/06/2004 15:19

Turtle - so sorry you are feeling like this. I did watch Born Too Soon last night and I'm in a really odd mood today. I'm snappy with everyone and feeling down as well. Your comment about superstition did make me laugh though - I am superstitious too but mine works the other way. If I talk things through then I think it won't happen and as a result dh and I talked about all of the bad things that might happen.

I hope you feel better soon and that the discharge clears up. These infections are very very common in pg and I am sure you will be fine. No doubt we'll all be sitting here in October 2 weeks overdue going mad....

Turtle35 · 22/06/2004 15:28

Thanks Piglit, I am sure you are right and I'll end up being late but would rather that than early (I think) yes definitely breaks my heart to see babies with complications because they were premeture - I am sure I am imagining things but when I think about it my little one starts to kick me! mind you she kicks me all the time now

Bibiboo · 22/06/2004 15:58

I watched Born Too Soon as well, had a good cry and about an hour of paranoia that it was going to happen to me too, but if we didn't owrry we wouldn't be normal surely?

Hope your infection is nothing at all Turtle, and if it is, like Piglit says it's all fairly common in pg anyway.

Going to have my one cup of tea now and enjoy it very much. I am very proud of myself for sticking to that and avoiding coffee altogether. I know we're allowed more but I needed to cut down anyway (about 6-8 teas a day and about 2-3 coffees was a bit excessive in the first place!) and pg is the perfect ecuse. Anyone else get bad withdrawals? I got headaches a lot at first, but that could have been pg anyway.

Turtle35 · 22/06/2004 16:08

Bbi I used to smoke and drink truck loads of coffee at work (not to mention wine after work)

Yes I felt withdrawl symptoms like you can't imagine, my body went into shock but I was determined to stop the excess vices in my life! I still drink a cup of coffee a day and the odd glass of vino on the weekend but have given up the ciggys - I really am proud of myself without sounding as though I am blowing my own trumpet.

beansprout · 22/06/2004 16:10

Have to say, I pretty much avoided Born Too Soon. After losing dp's neice to SIDS earlier this year, I feel I have done enough baby trauma and, given the timing (am 24w now) didn't want to see leedle beans on the wrong side (IYSWIM). Head in sand I'm afraid.

After all my previous moaning about my rubbish hospital, I have decided to change and am going to have a booking in/transfer appt at a Birth Centre this afternoon. Very scary as it's midwife run and they don't offer epidurals. It's very woman centred, lots of pools, own room, dp can stay over. Very non-medical and almost a bit hippy like (but just a tad). I'm hoping that as long as I don't have to listen to any dolphin music though, I'll be ok.

beansprout · 22/06/2004 16:12

Turtle, I have had to give up ciggies before now and know how hard it is. You blow away girl, it's the best thing you could possibly do for you and your db, and you deserve all the praise you can get

Bibiboo · 22/06/2004 16:16

Turtle, and there was me thinking I was so good for giving up coffee and most of the tea drinking - can only imagine how hard it would be to give up cigarettes too. Lived with a boy who did it every October for 4 years when we were in Uni and we went through hell with him! You are a truly virtuous woman!
Bean, birthing centre sounds excellent, am sure they won't force you to listen to dolphin music. Although I'd be hot-footing it to the hospital straight away if they did! Where did you find out about it? I don't think there are any in my area.

florenceuk · 22/06/2004 16:29

Beansprout, you are Nth London aren't you? Sorry your hospital appears to be so rubbish. There is an Active Birth centre very close to St George's in Tooting, so that if anything goes wrong, you can be whisked off to hospital. However I have to admit that for a first birth, having the opportunity of an epidural was a big positive for me (and given that I had such a rubbish labour - days and days of contractions - a necessity in the end).

Turtle35 · 22/06/2004 16:42

Bean I must admit I think you are one brave cookie!! I am sorry you had such a crap experience with hospital, you should defintely do what feels right for you. Don't let anyone else tell you different. You should also think of complaining to the hospital if you can be bothered?

Well done to you too for giving up ciggys also. It was damn hard in the beginning but I know all the benefits outweigh any excuses I had. I feel better for it but sometimes I still get the odd urge which I hope is completely gone by the time the baby arrives and therefore will not be tempted to go back to them. I am WOMAN hear me ROAR

Turtle35 · 22/06/2004 16:45

by the way the Dolphin music might'n be all that bad given you wont be alowed an epidural - Yikes I must admit the way I am feelin' bring on the pain killers but then again I have zero pain threshold.

Bibiboo · 22/06/2004 16:46

I am hoping to give up eating after the birth, so maybe I should take up a vice like smoking or drinking so I don't feel so left out?
