Mum2ela you are of course most welcome to join us. Hope you don't mind the moaning, ranting and raving!!

Turtle35 · 03/05/2004 14:22

Have been feeling funny pangs in my side and lower right tummy, not quite as painful as period pains but still painful, is anyone else experiencing slightly uncomfortable cramping? I was told this is my uteris stretching. Are the rest of you feeling it? It's a bit of worry, as is everything else with this baby game!

piglit · 03/05/2004 14:28

Turtle - I had that too (I think Beansprout did as well) and was also told it's the uterus stretching. I got myself into a terrible state about this recently and imagined all kinds (just for a change... ) I found that my bump had a growth spurt just after I'd had those pains. I still have them occasionally and look on it as a good sign that everything is growing in there!

beansprout · 03/05/2004 14:36

Same here Turtle and Piglit, and am still getting them. I read on another thread that these pains and twinges are absolutely fine, the pain to worry about would be a sharp stabbing pain, felt in the middle and of course, any bleeding etc.

Talking of growth spurts, am trying to have one before dp returns at the weekend. A friend suggested I put a cushion up my jumper to emphasise the point that he may have missed something!! Imagine - a pregnant woman pretending to be pregnant... even my current hormone levels can't justify that, and believe me, I am really not the most rational person today!

Turtle35 · 03/05/2004 17:30

dont talk to me about hormones, I just bought a Mothers Day card for my Mom (she lives in Canada) and I stood there in Clinton Cards crying and reading all these cards about how important and loving Moms are and I thought about my little one giving me a card like that and it all just got a bit much.

I am so pleased that you have both felt these pains (dont mean that in a bad way), I am sure the baby has had a growth spurt lately, I have been eating a lot and I am going with the fact that the baby is needing this food -probably not the Kit Kat kubes!

beansprout · 03/05/2004 18:57

Kit Kat Kubes are a MUST in the second trimester, I read it only this morning. Um, forget just where though...

Did exactly the same thing in March with the Mothers Day cards. Today, I am not that endearingly pregnant though. So far, on my nice Jojomamanbebe white top I have managed to spill cordial, avocado AND chocolate. I look like the before on a soap powder ad. Nice. Am at work too.

Turtle35 · 03/05/2004 20:25

Bean

you poor thing, I would just blame it all on the pregnancy! Hope the avacado comes out. am off home to order yummy chinese take away.

Hi Harman. Glad you are ok. I am contemplating a homebirth but DH is dead against it and I don't think there will be any swaying him. It wouldn't be my first choice I don't think, but I am worried that if this labout is quicker than my first, I may end up having it at home.

Turtle35 · 04/05/2004 14:09

Harman good luck for the party and enjoy, you really shouldn't feel inferior to the other woman who is also due on your same day, I am sure those who are also on the ward with children will be in the same boat so don't worry.

Really pleased your spd had improved.

How are your pains? Where abouts are they? I keep getting wicked constipation/trapped wind and it's ever so painful especially when sitting at a desk all day. Must keep reminding myself to get up and go for walks.

piglit · 04/05/2004 14:26

Good luck for the party Harman - you are very brave!

I would absolutely love to have a homebirth. The idea of being in the comfort and familiar surroundings of home appeals so much to me. However, this is my first and I am a scaredy cat and don't know if I'm brave enough to do it. We live less than 5 minutes from the hospital so if there were problems we could be there in no time at all. I'm hoping to get a doula so I'll discuss it with her and also my midwife nearer the time.

I hope everyone is well today and blooming nicely!

beansprout · 04/05/2004 15:12

Really glad you are feeling better Harman, that sounded horrible last week

My back has begun to hurt (it's not great at the best of times). Someone suggested I get a shooting stick. Yeah, 'cos that will look good in the mean streets of the rough area I live in!

Am also scaredy cat on the home birth. Also, and this may just sound silly, but have neighbours who are already very odd with me and I can't bear the thought of them listening to me give birth!

Turtle35 · 04/05/2004 15:30

Piglit I am with you on how wonderful it would be in your own home but like you Im a first timer and terrified. What if something went wrong, I would never forgive myself. My hospital is at least 20 minutes away so there is no way I would chance it. Besides wouldn't really want all the blood and gore all over my lovely crisp white sheets.

piglit · 04/05/2004 15:50

Good point Turtle. And I wouldn't want to be the one doing all the clearing up! I'll speak to a doula/my mw nearer the time and let y'all know what they say.

When I gave birth there was no blood and gore and hardly any fluid! All nice and clean. I'll have one like that again this time please!

piglit · 04/05/2004 16:02

Wow Harman and mum2ela - sounds great. We'll be pestering you for loads of advice in a few months time!

Toots · 04/05/2004 21:49

Hello all, so much to catch up on after a couple of days out of the loop, could you all please start living less eventful lives. Thank you.

Harman, you sound so much better, I'm really pleased. I'm glad there's a homebirth vet on the thread, though don't think it's going to be for me. Am too worried baby will be size of George Dawes as dd was 9lbs 6.

Turtle, your 'I had a stupid midwife' story made me fume for you. May all further experiences be a joy.

Beansprout, hope you controlled the spillages today, you mucky pup.

Today has been really f**ing awful. dd crushed the tip of her finger in her bedroom door. dp and I were all over the place. Took her to docs, not broken, she was a star for the nurse, holding it out for the dressing. It was so shocking I just wanted to curl up and be cuddled all day afterwards, never mind her. We went shopping with the woman I'm a volunteer befriender to. Dd played up horribly, and I snapped in the end, and burst into tears, as my back was killing me. I ended up being the one getting the support! DD has peed in the car seat, pushchair and in several pairs of pants and tights today, despite being fabulosly dry the last fortnight. Sure she is out of sorts poor love, but I'm feeling very sorry for myself, and don't know how you're doing with the fags, Harman, I really wanted one today!
Hello Piglit, mum2ela, Bakewell and everyone else.

beansprout · 05/05/2004 00:18

Toots - my heart really goes out to you, that sounds like such a trying day. I thought mine was bad because I was v busy at work, but reading about yours makes me realise it really was ok. I hope you have a better today tomorrow.

Still spilled stuff today, but wore a stripy shirt, so did not show up so much - hey, not just a pretty face me

Toots · 05/05/2004 00:37

Ah Beans, I'm sure you've every idea how much rock salmon and chips and a big glass of red wine has done to restore my equilibrium

Thank you, thank you for your kind words. Stripes sound good camoflage. Had to wait (aeeeeons) for flippin' fish, so had a good sit down in the chippy. Had long slick of pasta sauce from dd's tea on trousers, but carefully placed mobile phone on thigh means no-one the wiser. Personally, I CANNOT wear white, even if I sensibly avoid food or drink, within minutes there's a squashed greenfly or something, shortly followed by a smear of something yellowy. What's all that about? Btw, think you should definitely get shooting stick, proper old gun-dog style one. It would be very, very frightening (Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo Figaro). God, think I might be a bit drunk. When that burk/burkess says 'are you sure you can do it?' again, you can shake your stick at them. I wish you a better day tomorrow too.

beansprout · 05/05/2004 11:20

Oh Toots - ROFL!!! But who let me wear a cream top today - how did that happen??!!!

Absolutely will now get the shooting stick, and if I am not the scary-lady-with-the-stick in my street, that worries all the kids, by September, then I shall want to know what went wrong!

Hope everyone else is well.

eyelash · 05/05/2004 16:26

Helle all - my god I haven't logged on in a few days but you have all been busy.

Totally agree with the dirty clothes syndrome. Had to be photographed recently for local paper and both I and the kids were absolutely filthy. Picture not been published yet but hope they are in B&W.

Homebirth - I had ds2 at home and am planning to have ds3 at home as well. fantastic experience. If anybody is interested my dh wrote a short piece about our experiences and his fears for our local NCT mag - I am happy to e-mail it to you if any of you are considering this option.

Have to go as ds2 has just woken up.

Catch up properly soon.

I really must try and keep up- I seem to have missed loads and i'm only on here now because I spent the night chucking up and have had to stay off work . Today I am not feeling like the women who has no pregnancy symptoms and is finding it all a breeze - it had to come. In fact I have my 16 week check in less than an hour I haven't had a shower, eaten anything or even opened the curtains yet! To add insult to injury DH is on call tonight so I will have to get the kids, feed them and put them to bed by myself - at least its a work day so I could take them to nursery and go back to bed. Do I sound sorry for myself or what? Think i'd better pull myself together and go and find my notes!
Hope everyone else is having a great day.

Toots · 06/05/2004 00:01

Much better day. Worked like a demon, then dd an angel in Tesco. Slightly squirmy constantly in need of distraction angel, but angel nonetheless. Turning in to watch Friends and W&G in bed and swig gaviscon. Had raging heartburn in the night, surely not the red wine. Night all.

Toots · 06/05/2004 00:03

sorry, completely forgot to say Geogteach, so sorry about your grotty night, hope everything cool with your appointment and you feel better soon.
