Piglit I am definitely showing (more than I should be) my DH has now started to talk to the bump and kissed it goodbye this morning - I think it's starting to hit him that there is something in there!!

piglit · 02/05/2004 15:09

Please try not to worry Turtle. Mind you, I worried before my 16 week appointment last week just in case the midwife couldn't find a heartbeat etc etc and I made sure my dh had his mobile on in his meeting so I could get hold of him if I needed to. TBH I worry about every single appointment and I know I won't sleep the night before my 20 week scan. I think it's "natural" to worry and I don't think there's anything we can do. I do find that sharing the worries with all the wonderful people on here helps enormously.

beansprout · 02/05/2004 15:09

Not ridiculous in the slightest, it's the big fear I'm sure we all have. Glad the results so far are good. I have had the triple tests (blood taken at 12 and then 16 weeks). I don't actually get the results, only a call if they "are concerned". Worry is, this is the hospital that has actually managed to lose my notes, so have no confidence in their admin! Hope it goes well and we are all here if you need to fret.

Bump is def there, and is HUGE by the evening. No need for me to stuff any cushions up my jumper to see what I am going to look like!

Could be seen outside the clinic last week, holding my mobile phone to my stomach while dp shouted "hello, this is daddy, well done for having a really strong heartbeat, I love you" to the bean inside. Bless. I'm filling up....sniff.

miffy2 · 02/05/2004 15:13

Hello all,
Toots, good for you pampering yourself. My theory on the so-called Blooming phase is this - when you return to 'normal' after 2-3 months of looking like complete c**p, people think you are blooming!
Turtle, good luck with the triple test, hope it goes OK for you.
I had two days off work around the w/end and today have a decided bump, not just in the evening but morning too. Just as well I told people last week or I really would be stating the obvious now.
Went over to Manchester at the weekend and got lovely jeans and denim skirt in Blooming Marvellous. Decided that the under-the-bump jeans are for women of a certain (read: slim) frame. i.e. not me. Satisfied with comfy over-the-bump ones in a nice colour. Great Ts in H&M too.
Roll on second trimester...in the words of beansprout et al, I am a moose!

piglit · 02/05/2004 15:14

LOL at the phone to tummy Beansprout! My dh chats away to bump a lot. He always says "Hello in there, it's daddy here" before he starts chatting to it. I love it. I think babies begin to hear things from about now according to my (many) books.

Turtle35 · 02/05/2004 15:26

Thank you all for your wonderful well wishes, I am so glad it's not just me who is a constant worry wart!

Bean have you rang the hospital just in case? see now I am going to drive you crazy with it.

so so sweet when Dad's to be start talking to the little one - it really does make me want to cry..like most things these days.

One last thing before I go, does anyone's bladder feel as though it's completely shrunk? mine feels like the size of a golf ball now! It's insane how many times I get up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night.

piglit · 02/05/2004 15:34

Turtle - my bladder has been ok (although I'm drinking gallons of water and squash because I'm so thristy). I think your uterus presses down on your bladder until about week 13/14 when it moves outwards and can make you feel the urge to wee a lot more.

beansprout · 02/05/2004 15:37

I'm thirsty all the time, and am caught in a hideous drinking/weeing cycle. I was hoping that the 13/14 week change that Piglit outlined would apply, but so far, that's not the case.

Have already drunk a litre and half today (!!) and have been to the toilet 5 times. Sorry if that's too much information!!! Help!! Isn't this supposed to get worse as we go on? I will have to give up work early at this rate!

beansprout · 02/05/2004 15:38

Oh God. If you had told me 5 months ago that I would freely be posting my toilet habits on the internet, I wouldn't have believed you! I'm sure there is worse to come though!

piglit · 02/05/2004 15:45

Exactly right Beansprout! I had a quick look at the thread entitled Leaky Boobs. I'm sure that's a joy for the future....

piglit · 02/05/2004 15:55

Shrieks with laughter - I've just seen your post on there Beansprout!! I just can't wait until I get leaky boobs. Not.

beansprout · 02/05/2004 16:03

I think we are far better off chatting in earnest about mat. clothes, dads talking to bumps and the whole how-to-bloom stuff for as long as possible and delaying the gory stuff/reality until later.

(Sticks head back in sand)

florenceuk · 02/05/2004 17:31

Has anybody got itchy nipples? Mine are killing me. Also boobs very tender, when DS jumps on me I yelp in pain. Also itchy all over esp back - aargh!

Bakewell · 02/05/2004 17:34

Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Bakewell (as in 'cannot stop eating them' tart) this is my first post and I am due 9th Oct. I've loved reading all your messages, they are very encouraging & keep making me laugh out loud in the middle of the office! I'm 28, a first timer and I still cant work out half the acronyms you use on this thread (dh, ds, dd?..!) bit dippy I know.

I dont get the chance to log on that often so please dont think I am being rude if I cant join in all the time, but hope you are all well and having a good bump day! x

piglit · 02/05/2004 17:48

Welcome on board Bakewell! I hope you're keeping well and enjoying pg. The acronyms are:

dh - dear/darling husband
dp - dear/darling partner
ds - dear/darling son
dd - dear/darling daughter
pg - pregnancy/pregnant

There are lots more so feel free to ask at any time.

beansprout · 02/05/2004 17:52

Welcome Bakewell and congratulations!!

Quick acronym guide: dp, dh, ds and dd are dear partner, dear husband, dear son and daughter. This ensures anonymity for family members too. Similarly, MIL, PIL etc are the in-laws.

Please update us with all the gory details soon!

I am crashing now, back aches and am feeling knackered. Please, no one tell me about any ants that have been squashed, or I may just go!

Turtle35 · 02/05/2004 19:04

Just had a very upsetting appointment with midwife. She was useless!! I mean really thick and couldn't even log onto the computer let alone take my information properly. I had no time to ask any of my own quesions as it took her so long to write down my details, I had to practically beg her to check my urine as she said we were out of time but the color and smell of my urine has changed lately and I was worried that there could be sugar in my urine. It all was completely a waste of time, she couldn't book my next appointment because she lost the diary.

She continued to call my DH the wrong name, she put all of my personal information wrong into the computer and had to start again, I walked out of the hospital and cryed my eyes out for about 20 minutes thinking if this is the kind of care I am going to get then I am doomed. I have always heard great things about midwives, what on earth went so wrong?

Basically it was all a farce.

Oh and to make matters even worse my own GP is a complete flake also. Where does a very hormonal first time pregnant girl turn? thank God I can rant and rave on M/N.

Thanks for listening!

piglit · 02/05/2004 19:10

Oh Turtle - that is just cr@p and inexcusable. I don't really know what to suggest. I know some people have ended up going down the (expensive)independent midwife route in circumstances like this but it's an outrage that they should have to do that just because the care offered to them is so poor. I'm really sorry you have had such a sh*tty experience. When do you next see your midwife/gp?

beansprout · 02/05/2004 19:27

Turtle, you poor thing, that sounds rubbish. Hope you are ok. I really sympathise.
So far I have:

  • had to chase GP just to get the booking appt
  • been referred to the "wrong" mid wife, so had my booking appt and now have to been somewhere else by someone else,
  • have received double appts for the same thing,
  • and now they have LOST all my notes.

I keep reminding myself that I can change hospitals if I want to (as I am in London and there are loads of 'em). Is that an option for you?

You are perfectly in your rights to ask for a different midwife too. HTH (Bakewell - hope this helps!)

Moose power!! Hear us roar!!!!!

Turtle35 · 02/05/2004 19:46

Thanks to both of you, I am slowly calming down a bit.

Bean maybe we are going to the same hospital??...I have no qualms telling everyone I am at Chelsea Westminster. It turns out the midwife I saw was from a different team than who I am supposed to see regularly from here on in. Saying that, it's still not very reassuring that the hospital find this midwife acceptable practice. Honestly aren't these people supposed to be educated? I don't mean to sound nasty but you know what I mean.

Bean there is no excuse they are messing up your appointments and losing your info. NONE

Don't these people realise we are first time Moms and nothing, I mean nothing is now more important to us than our babies. I am sure that goes for second time Moms too.

The Moose girls must stick together! Mooses united!

Turtle35 · 02/05/2004 19:48

am now going to cheer myself up and get stuck into some Apple pie I just bought and watch Finding Nemo.

Fruit is good right!

beansprout · 02/05/2004 20:08

Abso-moose-ly right Turtle - you go for it!!

My impressive care is courtesy of St Marys in Paddington. Charing Cross is the other option which I might have to start exploring. To be fair I keep reminding myself that despite the rubbish admin, the care/medical staff have been pretty nice. Now, where are my notes....?
Next thing of course, is that I get told off for not carrying them 'round all the time!

Anyway, new series of "Cutting It" tonight and dp is away - I feel an indulgent evening coming on!
My colleague is off sick so too much work here at the moment. Am waddling more in an attempt to get the sympathy vote, but so far, to no avail. Humph.

Turtle35 · 02/05/2004 22:06

Just watched Nemo - what a great film, will bring a tear to your eye.

St Mary's is supposed to be excellent - I have heard very good things.

enjoy your indulgent evening even if work is demanding - remember to be good to yourself, you deserve it, after all you are pregnant

Mum2Ela · 03/05/2004 11:07

Hi everyone!

Would anyone mind if I gatecrash this thread now and again? I am due 5th November but DD was 4 weeks early and babies in my family seem to be earlybirds so this one may come in October.

x

beansprout · 03/05/2004 11:18

Mum2Ela - you are very, very welcome!!

Thanks Turtle. I got in late, and then settled down to dinner and "Cutting It", not to mention just a bit of chocolate. By 10pm I was in floods of tears over Gavin and Allie. It's still upsetting me now! What happened to the invincible me of yesterday morning? (Refers to pregnancy book.... ah yes, "mood swings".....)
