Hello, I need to find a semi formal dress for a wedding in 1 month, I will be 26 weeks pregnant.

I have ordered and rejected this the pattern was too busy and the dress was too long, completely swamped me.

I am 5'4, and around a size 16/18.

I wear a 16 in new look maternity, if anyone can compare their sizes to other maternity clothes? Judging by measurements, I won't fit into jojomamanbebe :( (my boobs are now vast), and I'm not sure about asos.

I also tried [[http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Maternity/ASOS-Maternity-Exclusive-Wrap-Lace-and-Chiffon-Midi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3734590&cid=5813&Rf900=1465&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=3&clr=Winethis one]] and had the same issue with it just looking like it was too much fabric. I think the 18 fit ok, was slightly big.

I would like to avoid baby blue as that is the colour of the bridesmaids. I tend to suit strong colours, and am flexible on accessories and hair. Small patterns and single colours aren't great for me :( and I can't wear maxi dresses for the whole swamping thing. Sleeveless is fine, though I can't do strapless or spaghetti straps.

Budget around £40

Please help! Tia.

Have you tried looking on ebay? They have lots of maxi dresses for cheap.

There is 20% off at a sos for maternity on until tomorrow and they have some lovely stuff?

Or try your local market? I've got a couple of maxi dresses in a stretchy materials which would be ok for a wedding. They fit me fine when not pregnant as floaty dresses but I bet they'd even stretch to term!
They cost me under £25 each :)

katandkits · 15/05/2014 05:40

Jojo come up large. I wear 18 in new look maternity jeans. I got a pair of 18 jeans from jojo and had to wait an extra month before they fit. Tops from there in size large fit me fine. Their nursing vests come up too small on my ginormaboobs though. Leggings in size large fit me fine.

katandkits · 15/05/2014 05:44

Sorry totally missed the wedding bit! I would stay away from maternity. I find going up a size and finding something floaty or jersey helps. A maxi dress is your friend in this situation.

Raskova · 15/05/2014 05:51

I had two weddings when I was 30 and 36 weeks pregnant.

You can't go wrong with a maxi dress and a flower in your hair.

I got both mind from quiz. I hD to buy two as six weeks layer, the first didn't fit Hmm

Missguided do a really nice one. Possibly called alibone Grin

BikeRunSki · 15/05/2014 06:52

I second that Jojo come up huge!!!!

Have you tried Dotty P and Next - both have a lot more online than in shops.

icklekid · 15/05/2014 06:52

Mamas and papas have some nice dresses with the advantage you can try in store to check sizes rather than ordering online?

Could you dress up something like this with nice scarf and jewellery? www.mamasandpapas.com/product-button-detail-dress-royal-blue/s0010708/type-s/

BikeRunSki · 15/05/2014 06:53

Boden, reduced

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/05/2014 07:03

The mamasandpapas dress is out of stock :-(

JJMB is definitely roomy. I'm a JJ cup and some of the dresses I've bought from there are still too big at 24 weeks.

littlegreengloworm · 15/05/2014 07:05

Slight have you tried going to a 14 in maternity? I mighty be more flattering.

I found maternity 14 to be more like a 16 to 18

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/05/2014 07:27

Alita7 any more details on the 20% off asos? I can't see it?

squizita · 15/05/2014 08:45

Greenglowworm yes I found NEVER to buy big, always small. I think they account for max weight gain as well as bump!

slithytove · 15/05/2014 10:23

Hi all, thanks for replying

I can't wear maxi dresses pregnant or not - I'm bigger on too than on bottoms and they just swamp me, I need my legs out to prove I'm not a complete heifer!

Hence the size 16 - it's all boobs I'm afraid, I'm a 12-14 in maternity bottoms. And it is size 16 maternity wear in new look (dresses etc)

Good to know about JJMB, there is a lovely dress there I might try now.

I was thinking of this with a red pashmina and fascinator. It'll come up about knee length on me.
What do you think?

I think the 20% off asos is MAY20 but only for premium customers. Which I am not :(

I've tried DP, didn't find their selection to be great, more office wear than June wedding, and the reviews weren't fantastic. I will look at next though. Any ideas how the sizing compares?

alita7 · 15/05/2014 10:59

you need a code which you put in at the check out its may20.

Boogles91 · 15/05/2014 13:27

Have a look on joe browns....i found a couple of dresses i bought years ago size 14, and have a big bump at 31wks and they fit perfectly, they always do some lovely dresses that arent too busy. I have one on today as its so lovely and warm for a change :) x

Boogles91 · 15/05/2014 13:30

www.joebrowns.co.uk/pp+Womens-Dresses+DR-L theres the website :) my god they have so,e gourgeous stuff at mo :( shame i cant get them as they wont fit after baby born x

Waggamamma · 15/05/2014 15:33

Watching this, as I have the same dilema. bought one by Crave from Next on ebay, looked lovely but it's totally swapping me and very unflattering.

slithytove · 15/05/2014 16:06

Are you a short arse too wagga?

I have been thinking about this, and think I need to go for a more fitted style. The length of the dresses doesn't help, but when the skirt flares out, it essentially hangs straight down from the biggest part of my bump (massive already since I'm on my 3rd), making me look much bigger than I am. And since I need to get a big size to accommodate my top half, there is so much fabric on my bottom half!

What did you all think of that asos dress?

What about [[http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Maternity/ASOS-Maternity-Lace-Bodycon-Dress-With-Bardot-Scoop-Neck/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4087458&cid=5813&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Blue this one]]?

Btw boogles those joe brown dresses are gorgeous, do they accommodate a big bump well? What dress size are you normally if you wear a size 14 while pregnant?

I like the black/Red asos one a lot. On the basis they have free delivery and returns, why not order a few to try on at home? They're not very expensive even without a working discount code.

Waggamamma · 15/05/2014 19:31

Yes I'm 5ft4, not tall and a size 16/18. I'm starting to panic the wedding isn't far away and I have no chance to get to the shops child free. I can't wear a maxi dress the drown me.

Local shopping centre is rubbish too so would involve going to city 40mins away for a decent choice.

I'm thinking of looking for a regular dress in a bigger size, than a maternity one. My boobs aren't huge but my bump is big so I just end up with a gapping dress flashing my boobs and too much material on bottom half too.

slithytove · 15/05/2014 19:39

Ok so same as me bar the boob thing. What dresses suit your shape when not pregnant? Did you like that blue lace one I posted? What's your favourite sleeve length, dress length, colour and budget.

If I find the tops are gappy, I just stick a spaghetti strap underneath, otherwise my boobs are obscene. It works well.

slithytove · 15/05/2014 19:41

Testing I think I'm going to do that - dress shopping catalogue style.

Does anyone know how asos sizing comes up?

I also love this but again it looks like it will be really long? What do you all think

OP posts:
Boogles91 · 15/05/2014 20:45

Yeeh they do :D my ones fit lovely thats why i suggested them as i kniw they are not specificaly maternity but ive found they fit :) im normally size 10-12 lol mainly a 10 just that some places you buy clothes from now days the sizing is awful! I went into one shop once and had to buy an xxxl! I thought how small are the models used for these clothes -.- hope you find something soon chuck :) i might go to the bank of mom n dad for another dress off there hehe ;) x
