Toothache · 19/06/2004 12:41

Oh goodness! Just noticed this!! SC please post and let us know how you are. It could be that the babies head has engaged? Or Braxton hicks can quite painful at this stage like Quacks suggested.

Hope all is well. And if baby is on the way.... GOOD LUCK!

SpringChicken · 19/06/2004 12:54

Nope, No baby! ! Although don't think it will be long to be honest.

Had horrid period pains all day Friday which continued into Friday night - went to sleep thinking may as well get a good night's sleep if all teh action is going to be soon - Woke up Saturday morning to absolutely nothing, zilch, nada........
Was fine all day saturday but then started getting period pains again yesterday and today..................nothing again.

Got midwife tomorrow and looking forward to see what she will say about baby's size etc as she said bigger than average and will defo be a 9lb'er last time.
Everyone keeps telling me bump has dropped so hopefully wont be too long now - i saw a friend yesterday who had her bundle 3 weeks early, he was soo cute - Wonder if that could be me next weekend ??

Anyway, enough rambling - How is everyone else? ANyone getting any signs?

littlerach · 19/06/2004 12:59

That was a long weekend, Jems!!!!
Let us know what the mw says, am excited!!

Toothache · 19/06/2004 12:59

Frustrating for yu SC - Judging by the June thread though, there are a few poor souls that have been getting pre-labour contractions off and on for a fortnight. That would drive me mental! Glad you baby is staying in a wee bit longer though. 36 wks is still classed as preterm. At least the wee porker will get a chance to plump up a bit.

You're all in the home straight though, which is so exciting! I am 32+3 today and can't wait to get to the 37wk mark so I can start getting things moving!

sweetkitty · 19/06/2004 16:18

Glad to hear your ok SC was worried for you, have you finished work yet?

karen01 · 19/06/2004 16:33

SC-Just to warn you at 36 and 37 weeks my babs was 3/5 engaged and as this is second babs I thought yeah won't be long. I am now 39+4 and last week when i seen midwife babs had disengaged and is still bopping up and down.

i have been having really strong BH and bad period pains on and off now for roughly 2wks.

Hopefully I won't be waiting too much longer.

Good luck though and keep us all posted.

On that thought good luck to everyone on july thread .
Take care all

Quackers · 19/06/2004 20:02

Hiya, good to hear from you Jems, we've all been waiting to hear! You just never know do you when bubbs is going to come. I had this on and off thing with DD. 3-4 weeks until I delivered. The contractions would get closer together and stronger and I'd start timing them. Got up to about 40 mins once and then nothing, no action and went overdue. It's very frustrating!!! Hope you do see some action though!

Hi everyone,

Have cut my hours down at work now so may not be around much from now on - working 9-3 or 10-4 until 25th June and then i'm off completely !

Been to midwife this morning - said basically the same as last time - baby is still on the bigger than average scale (not going to be a 7lb'er were her words). Head is engaged 4/5, have started another thread on this but think this means that 4 5ths are engaged - WEYHEY!

Everything looking good - made arrangements to go back in 2 weeks but midwife made the comment "that's if you still need me in 2 weeks time" - she said she doesn't think i will go to the 40 weeks - so many people have said this now i am bound to go over and have to be induced - just my luck .

How is everyone coping with the heat then? Is everyone in countdown mode like me?

littlerach · 20/06/2004 14:16

Sods law that you'll go over then!!
3 daysleft at work - hurrah!!!! Am looking forward to a rest, only had 5 hrs sleep again last night.
Should be moving on 9 July, will be 37 wks then - aaahhhhhh!!!

SpringChicken · 20/06/2004 14:22

Blimey Littlerach - have u gone insane?

Same with the sleep last night - had the worst night's sleep i've had in ages - only second to when i had a kidney infection !

Toothache · 20/06/2004 14:22

Me too SC - I've been told that I'll probably not go to fullterm. I'm scared it's an omen that I'll be 2wks late too!!

Littlerach - I think I said this before.... YOU'RE MAD!

serenequeen · 20/06/2004 15:05

good luck with your move, littlerach, ours is still looking dodgy...

plus i can't bear this heat. three more wks at work.

Celou · 20/06/2004 17:10

I've only got under 4 weeks to go and I'm finding sleep IMPOSSIBLE at night!!
Result: I fall asleep in the early morning and don't wake up until 10.00 am/11.00 am, and then I feel guilty because I've got to get things done and I can't be bothered to do anything between 12.00 and 15.00 as it's too hot.
Any tips against insomnia?
A part from that yes, I'm counting the days, and everything is almost ready (my bags, the baby's things.). The one last thing I want to get is a moses basket/bedding.
I didn't want to get one to start with but when I practised making the cotbed, it seemed totally out of proportion for a newborn baby. I think it's gonna feel lost in that.
What are you guys gonna do?

Toothache · 20/06/2004 17:14

I got a moses basket, ds slept in it in our room until he was 3 or 4 months old. I'll be using it again for this little one too. To get him used to being in the cot I used to sit the moses basket in the cot.

Have to point out though that perhaps my advice isn't very useful. My ds has never slept a full night in his own bed since day 1 and he's 3 in 2wks time!

Celou · 20/06/2004 17:24

Oh, don't you have to buy a stand then? Is it something they try to sell you? I thought you had to (for safety or something, for the airflow.).
Saying that I remember eight years ago my mum used to put my little sister in a moses basket in the cot.
Again, she wasn't a great sleeper when she was transfered to the cot. Do you think it's related?

Quackers · 20/06/2004 18:29

I had no probs transferring to the cot. Used my basket for about 8-10 weeks, then put the basket in the nursery, then put DD in the cot with bedding smelling same. Seemed to work, well it did last time anyway! Not holding my breath!

OP posts:
Celou · 20/06/2004 18:39

Good idea about the bedding!! It's probably important to keep the same surroundings as well!!
I intend to put the baby directly into the nursery as it is litterally next door from our bedroom. You can go into it in one second.

madgirl · 21/06/2004 00:36

quacks, that was my strategy, and it worked well for us too. i had visions of keeping ds in our room for 6 months but his snuffles kept us awake so much we had to put him in his own room after 2 weeks-in the moses basket, in the cot, so when he eventually went full-on into cot he was used to the bars etc.
well, i thought that my low-lying placenta was in the clear (went for 36 checking scan yesterday), but then the sonographer phoned me up and said the consultant had looked over the pix/measurements (??) and said he wants to see me, also cos baby is at risk of gaining FOUR pounds in last few weeks cos of my diabetes. so i may have section after all will know once i have another scan with consultant.

littlerach · 21/06/2004 10:58

SC, or anyone else, how does your mw measure you to see how big they think the baby is? My mw has measured my bump but did not give any indication as to weight of baby.

Have discovered it is easier to sleep on my own, in the middle of the bed, as it is easier to roll over.

Quackers · 21/06/2004 12:01

MG, hope it goes well with consultant. You might not be so far off then. Glad they know about the low lying placenta now though rather than later.
Littlerach, I was told I was having a 7.5-8 pounder last time and she came out a 5 pounder a week over! I'm the same size this time but having growth scans, they come out different each time I go, so I'm just not thinking about it now. I get bigger in pgcy I think than what I actually am.

I had to go into the hossie last night for monitoring. Bubbs just hasn;t been moving at all for 3 days and I thought I had had some leaking fluid. I counted only 3 or 4 movements each day since Sunday and normally I get well over 100 ( well I don;t count them but thereabouts!). Put me on the monitor for an hour and of bubbs went, like a fottballer! Wouldn;t keep still them after all the prodding. The midwife hurt when she was trying to find the position. Do they really need to be so rough! Then had a speculum exam - lovely and ultrasound. All seems fine though, so that's good! Going for my anti d this am. Fed up of the place! Can't wait to get it out now! Oh it was so cute though on the maternity ward last night there was a lovely young couple sat with their brand new baby in the sitting room, klights off and both just looking at their new arrival - it was magic. Sorry, bit emotional today!!

OP posts:
Toothache · 21/06/2004 12:34

Quacks - How scary for you! Glad that babs is okay... already toying with your emotions!

That sounds lovely, that couple just marvelling at their beautiful child. I welled up when I read that... blinkin hormones!

SpringChicken · 21/06/2004 12:37

Littlerach - My midwife just measures my bump from pelvis to just under boobs - she did say it would be a big baby but the midwives in my area are renound for getting it wrong - said my nephew would be a big baby and he was 6lb and said other nephew was going to be tiny, had intensive scbu waiting and he was 9lb 1oz.
TBH, i wouldn't take a great deal fo notice what they say.

Quacks - sorry your feeling crap - glad bubbs started moving - this is exactly what happened to me about a month ago.

MG - Hope everything goes well with consultant - make sure u keep us posted!

Did u see Gomez' announcement on the June thread - her's was a whopper

SpringChicken · 21/06/2004 12:40

Also, thought i was going to punch my midwife yesterday - it was sooooooo painful when she was palpating I'm sure she didn't need to be that rough, i can feel most of the bits and i don't even know what i am looking for.
Made me unconfortable for most of the day yesterday - set off my period pains again.

Celou · 21/06/2004 17:34

More or less solved my insomnia problem.
It feels a bit strange but I sent DH in the spare bedroom (I don't think he could sleep with me tossing and turning anyway) and sleep in the middle of the bed with cushions either side (so I don't have to take my 3 cushions with me when I roll over. I still find that I can't sleep until at least 2.00am though. Annoying.

Quackers · 21/06/2004 19:36

I sleep in the other room too Celou, there's no point us both missing out on sleep. I start off in our bed and then go in the other. At least we're well rested then! Jems, they can be too rough and I don;t know why!! I haven't had a rough one until last night. Then had my antenatal appointment today and she was rough too!!
