I haven't got any short sleeves sleepsuits, only short sleeves body suits. It does feel a bit cruel though with this heat.

SpringChicken · 12/06/2004 19:28

This is what i mean though Toothache - having never done it before, i don't really know what i should be taking and how much of it!
I even chucked the whole packed of 28 nappies in yesterday (well, there was lots of room left over, so i thought, Why Not)!

I haven't got any shortsleeves sleepsuits either - i was working on the premise that if it that hot the baby would just sleep in a vest or baby grow, Is that wrong?

Celou · 12/06/2004 19:36

Sounds ok to me, but when I went to the maternity ward last time they bathed a real life baby for us, and he had a body suit + sleepsuit. It was extremely hot in the room I couldn't believe it.
I thought they shouldn't overheat!

SC, I packed mine and am taking similar stuff to you. But only normal sleepsuits, no short sleeves. Mind you, last time I was in for a week, and DH had to pack the bags, so I want to be prepared this time!!

Sorry for duplicating my message but I got interrupted and thought I didn't send it (PG brain!).
Currently, these are the only things I've got for the baby (for the hospital):

  • 4 sleepsuits (+ scratchmits option)
  • 4 body suits
  • 1 cardigan
  • 12 nappies
  • 1 cotton cellular blanket.

I don't see the point in socks as the whole in one include the feet.
Is this too little? Just to point out that I live 10 minutes away from the maternity unit so DH will be able to fetch some more if necessary.
I haven't got any cotton wool as they have some at the maternity.

Toothache · 13/06/2004 11:13

Come to think of it, last time I probably didn't have enough. The hospital provided nappies, cotton wool and sudocreme. I jsut had to take clothes really. The baby was in 'standard issue' hospital gear for the first day. Then I think I only used 2 sleepsuits and 2 vests. I went home 48hrs after having him though.
I hadn't thought of taking a towel for baby, but I think I might. The towels they provide are itchy/scratchy!

My hospital last time were very funny about you providing your own things though. They were of the impression that you should use all hospital issue stuff whilst in there!! Something to do with liability if baby develops an allergy to your washing powder, for example. Must check it out, it's a different hospital I'm delivering this baby in.

Helsbels · 13/06/2004 12:13

HI all
hope everyone is okay. Bought some vests from Tescos yesterday - if it is hot I shall put junior in a vest and only a vest. I didn't buy muslim squares last time - I bought some very cheap white guest towels - they are brill. You can put them over your shoulder, put them on the changing mat whatever. In hospitals they do seem very concerned about it being hot enough but you're (hopefully) only there for one day and night max. so I wouldn't worry too much. I was talking to a mum from my ds1's nursery on Sunday and she said with her second she dropped her daughter off in the morning went to hospital had the baby and was at home ready for her daughter coming home - sounds good to me - think I'll book one of those!! Already done my cupboards and skirting boards and have a care mat under the sheet on the bed - not that I'm getting excited or anything.......

Toothache · 13/06/2004 12:15

lol Helsbels! I'll be exactly the same at 35wks!

Helsbels · 13/06/2004 12:38

Yes, it really seems to be sinking in now - I think we have been in denial the whole time. Buying those little vests yesterday bought it home to me that soon I would have something to fill them!! Baby woke DH up on Saturday by kicking him in the back ( I was cuddled up to him) It really made him jump!!

chickpea · 13/06/2004 20:37

Hello All

It's a while since I posted and I'm pleased you all seem to be doing well. I thought that the last few weeks woul go really slowly but they are flying past. I convinced myself that I was going into labour last week and was horrified at how I have nothing ready. If it happened now I would just have to wrap the baby in a tea towel and bring it home in a bag.

I am now 36.5 weeks and am due to finish work on July 2nd (baby due on July 4th!). I bought a set of vests and sleepsuits today - the first things I have bought so far!

Is anyone due before 4th July? - It would be nice to have a chart so that we can see when everyone is due - I forget how far everyone is and keep having to scroll down to find out. How about you e-mail me with your dates and I will post a chart?

CP

karen01 · 14/06/2004 12:37

TA-We are trying to let go honestly. (Well I know I am trying most things )

I think our june babies are going to come during the important matches in the euro Cup to annoy mammies and daddies. .

think I will start jumping everywhere instead of walking and see if that works

SpringChicken · 14/06/2004 12:43

I keep winding DP up saying that it would be jsut our luck for England to get to the final but me spontaneously start labour and he has to miss the match
He has since told me though that he would watch the match somewhere at the hospital and let me get on with it - Charming!

karen01 · 14/06/2004 12:49

SC- Atleast yours has said he wil take you. Mine has said I will have to cross my legs until the end of the match.Like to see how he reacts when things do start happening properly though
