I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2029282-Missing-Malaysia-Airlines-MH370-Thread-4?

There are just under 4,000 messages on the subject so I'd advise not reading through all of them unless you have plenty of time to spare! But it covers all the theories and some excellent technical advice. We are better informed on some things than the news.

Glad you are home petit that must be a relief. Let your in laws and DH do the work. Stay in bed the whole weekend if you want to. You're very sick and need to rest for you and for the baby. If they are remotely human they won't mind and will understand.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 17:03

had 1 1/2 hour wait in antenatal just for a simple blood test ffs!
and more rage inducing is the fact I already know Im not anaemic; and they already know my blood type!! pre-op bollocks.

rant over

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 17:07

was Shock at a couple with a 2/3 yr old boy, he started kicking the shit out of a seating unit, loud kicking...his dad weakly said 'please stop' ..then his mother said ''oh please stop''
he continued. until a MW bustled out of a nearby office and said 'excuse me I'm trying to talk on the phone and I can't hear myself think! would you stop that racket!'

HAHAHAH

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 17:22

chaffinch hugs and Grin

Oklahoma · 20/03/2014 17:23

Love it. Nothing like being yelled at by a mw! I presume he shut up after that?

I've been given Avomine instead of Cyclizine now. Is that likely to be any better?

Petit you should definitely not be worrying about the house! That's what family is for. Takeaway and a TV should be perfectly sufficient for them.

Lottiedoubtie · 20/03/2014 17:28

I've had a better afternoon, made it downstairs and did a slow half an hour of work (copying things from my planner into an email). I'm on sick leave but it's information only I have that my a level pupils need so had to force myself to do it. Smile

Oklahoma · 20/03/2014 17:30

Lottie, yay for a better afternoon.

I've managed half a bottle of lucozade so am also feeling smug! Have you managed to resolve your doc issue?

Lottiedoubtie · 20/03/2014 17:31

Just looked up Avomine and it seems to be the same as what I was on first, it made me more drousy than Cyclizine, and I attributed it to starting my dizziness, bt it's more likely (in hindsight) that, that was a bug.

It's effects definitely built up a bit over a few days.

Lottiedoubtie · 20/03/2014 17:32

Yes, I think DH is able to get leave to take me tomorrow. (Phew)

Oklahoma · 20/03/2014 17:34

Good. I had been worrying about you.

Did the Avomine work?

Lottiedoubtie · 20/03/2014 17:39

It definitely reduced the sickness generally although not the nausea but it didn't prevent the massive relapse/admission to hospital which occurred last weekend. That's when I changed to Cyclizine which is about the same for me so far, except with Cyclizine I'm not napping for several hours every day as well (at the moment!).

petitlapin1 · 20/03/2014 18:13

A belated welcome in okla and Lottie.

Avomine worked for me for a few weeks- it was the first one that I got on with. Still had an admission whilst on it but think that was concurrent infection.

Nearly made it out of bed today. The latest bout seems to have knocked me for 6 again, and my mood's plummeted too. Trying to get up the courage to shower. At least today there will be no chunks to clean up- i've eaten a couple of frube yoghurts I found lying by the bed! (Slightly grossed out by self, but past caring!)

doom I had a similar experience but at a friends house where she calmly, softly asked 1 yr old son to not play with that vase. I find a firm 'NO!' to be much more effective... (Says the first time mum to be trying very hard not to be judgemental!)

petitlapin1 · 20/03/2014 18:15

Thanks everyone for pil advice. Just had an informative text from dominos informing me pizzas are bogof all week. Fate.

petitlapin1 · 20/03/2014 18:25

Ooh, meant to mention, was reading through old medical notes the other day and came across the "getting over a vomiting bug" BRAT diet which supposedly has most nutrients you absolutely need and is more likely to stay down. It's bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast. Probably not the nutrients for pregnancy, but might help on the 'zero intake' days.

Anyone have any tips for high nutrient/vitamin foods/drinks? I've got the nesquik and fortified breakfast cereals. :)

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 18:33

petit agree sometimes a firm word is needed, the weak couple were expecting too much of him to sit still and quiet for so bloody long, ffs. not his fault, just bored. why couldn't dad walk him round to see what was going on! there was a massive toy section in the middle but no, too lazy and ineffective

jeez Im on a knife edge. my mother just rang and I flipped at her when she told me to calm down . calm down! don't tell me to calm down. what an eejit I am.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 18:35

petit

full fat yogurts/mousses/puddings
peanut butter on stuff
mayonnaise on sarnies
butter on toast/crumpets
milkshakes with fullfat milk
ice cream, whip cream, apple pie, fudge cake
it's kind of the 'anti-diet' Grin

Meerka · 20/03/2014 18:38

hrrrm there's some eating advice here .... more about what will stay down rather than high-nutrient though.

also here sorry not sure what else is good ...

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 18:38

oakie

re Avomine - have a go, you never know
it is an over the counter for non preggers folk, travel sickness thing
it stops dizziness/nauseous feelings possibly switches off other nausea related points in the brain

don't worry if you need stronger stuff, there's loads more to try

ChaffinchOfDoom · 20/03/2014 18:38

agree meerkat it's more a question of what you fancy...changes hour by hour Grin

Tallyra · 20/03/2014 18:57

I found high fat items to be quite hard to eat at my worst. sugar and salt and strong flavours were best.

mrsb87 · 20/03/2014 19:02

I agree with Tallyra, stronger flavours were best, for some reason rowntree's randoms stayed down well.

Eurgh I think I've been overdoing it a bit, feel completely exhausted and my sense of smell has gone wild again today!

Meerka · 20/03/2014 19:03

finch Im not actually Meerkat, that's another poster :) just in case of confusion!

ye, i found high fat stuff plain impossible. Bland was the way to go. tastes have totally changed in preg. HOpe they change back.

take it easy mrsb :)

petitlapin1 · 20/03/2014 19:04

Thank you lovely ladies. After a few bearable weeks i'd forgotten so many tricks to get the calories in. And with my new lack of appetite and mounting food aversions it's getting harder to pick things!

mrsb87 · 20/03/2014 19:16

I also found that if I over thought about food it put me off instantly. Best bet was to just shovel it in!
