I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

MrsHende Thank you so much for coming on, and that's wonderful encouraging news, that you've turned a corner (comparatively speaking).
I was wondering how you were.
Okla I hope doing not too badly yourself.

Hi, this is my first time posting on here. I was diagnosed with HG this week. Came as a bit of a shock, just assumed I was going through 'normal morning sickness'. Have felt nauseous 24/7 since week 5 and throwing up 3-4 times a day. Been really bad this week, bit keeping fluids or food down at all. Dr reluctantly gave me anti sickness meds which touch wood seem to be hoping a little. Can't help feeling I'm overreacting and should be able to cope with this better...anyone else feel like this? :(

mrsb87 · 26/04/2014 20:26

Lucinda I've tried to half my meds but the nausea was unbearable after 2 days. Back to my normal dosage tonight!

Meerka · 26/04/2014 21:17

hello nmc

Its really common to feel that you ought to be coping better, but later on, you realise that actually you really have been ill.

The nausea and vomitting really does take it out of you much more than you realise at the time. They say that for every month you had the serious N + V, it takes a month to recover.

Please be gentle with yourself!

The two really important things are to take hte meds (what did your doctor prescribe?) The sooner you get them, the more effective they are even if they don't completely take away the N + V.

Secondly, keep a good eye on how much you are drinking. That's more important than the eating,a ctually, for a good long time. The websites that Mother Hen linked at the top of the thread really have some good hints. Just a couple here and now; try sipping or using a straw; try sucking ice chips; some people find very hot or very cold drinks better (I still struggle unless the drink is very cold, even now).

Do feel you can post here any time, the Sisterhood of the Sickbucket know what you're going through with severe N+V and it does help to know you're not alone!

Hi all, just checking in. Any news meerka?

So I saw gp on Friday and got some meds. She was very supportive. Then I saw the midwife in the afternoon for booking in and she was very encouraging about taking them too. However she was a bit telly-offy about me taking codeine which has upset me a bit cos I really do rely on it to get through migraines. When not pregnant I used ibuprofen which works well even at a low dose but because it's not recommended in pregnancy I've switched both times to codeine (on the advice of my gp). However midwife said not ok to use anything but paracetamol so I am basically dreading the next migraine (I get absolute bastard migraines in early pregnancy with all the hormones flying about). Arrggh.

So far I'm not finding the meds are making a huge difference, although things have been a little better. Because I'm taking them at bedtime they do a brilliant job of getting me through the night at least without needing to get up to retch etc, so in theory I could be getting some great sleep BUT ds(2) is waking a lot and wants to come into our bed. And only wants me to pick him up out of the cot (screams and pushes dh away if he goes through) so It's exhausting. Then when he's in bed with us he can only settle by repeatedly patting and touching my face which is really hard when you're feeling sick. How has everyone with older DC been managing? I feel constantly guilty that I haven't got the energy to give ds my full any attention.

Hope everyone had a reasonable weekend and start to the week. Not long to go now for you living and petit. And tallyra I'm with you on the coffee! I can't drink anything hot now. This baby has found a cunning way to keep me off the caffeine although nothing will stop me drinking coke.
