I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Good luck Meerka!

mrsnec it's very unsettling having a doctor you don't get on with. Do you have any other choices?

mrsnec · 14/04/2014 18:48

Currently investigating Boo, there is another general about the same distance but fewer English speaking staff and longer waiting times. There are 2 private clinics localy but both end up sending patients to the hospital I'm under now anyway I think speaking to mum's that have had experience will help. Trouble is this hospital has treated me and my in laws very well in the past me for a serious illness and them after a car crash but that doesn't mean their maternity care is any good. None of the options above have scbus either so I. Can't use that factor to help me decide. It's a tough one. This doc could be excellent he's just sn arse!

Booboostoo · 14/04/2014 19:20

Couldn't you go with one of the other hospitals or clinics and only get referred to the main hospital if you need it? Are the other options unable to accommodate a c-section if you need one or do they just lack a neonatal ICU?

In France they rank maternity care hospitals which makes the system quite easy to understand. They have hospitals that offer specialised facilities so can cater for high risk pregnancies and neonates born before the 32nd week. Then they have hospitals that can offer care to neonates from 32 weeks on and can perform CS, and finally they have clinics that deal with unproblematic VBs. Is there something similar in Cyprus?

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/04/2014 20:28

good luck Meerka! Thanks

hello all, hope you're all OK
Smile

PunkStar · 14/04/2014 20:32

Good luck Meerka can't believe it's your turn! Hope everything goes well tomorrow. X

PunkStar · 14/04/2014 20:42

Mrsnec what a tough decision re hospital and how rude! I'm the same age and I made a joke about it at my last scan and they told me I was a young 'un! Pretty much most of my friends only started in mid thirties too!
Hope you find somewhere/consultant where you feel comfortable.

Oklahoma · 14/04/2014 21:04

That is totally out of order of them. How very rude. Some people really shouldn't be in a caring profession!!

Lottiedoubtie · 15/04/2014 10:45

Good luck Meerka, thinking of you!

petitlapin1 · 15/04/2014 13:26

Good luck meerka!

Meerka · 15/04/2014 13:55

thank you :) ... yay for hospitals with free (if intermittent) wifi :) just waiting for the induction to do its thing now, it's the slow method so ho hum, could be here a day or two. And I'm still feeling nauseous heh. But the end has got to be in sight now, hasnt it!

Hope everyone is not too bad today?

mrsb87 · 15/04/2014 14:14

Good luck meerka! Thinking of you twiddling your thumb.

Another small milestone for me, I went swimming today for the first time since January! I only did half an hours worth but it felt good Smile I am completely exhausted though!

How is everyone else?

livingzuid · 15/04/2014 14:29

mrsnec I'm 35 and my doctors were so unfazed by my age. My consultant even asked me the other day if we were planning on no 2! I'll be just shy of 36 when the baby arrives. It's ridiculous in this day and age to make such a meal out of how old you are when it comes to kids.

meerka thinking of you! A good friend gave birth to a boy at 1.30 this morning. She texted me at 8pm to say contractions were six minutes apart and thought she'd have ages but nope, he wanted out. Straightforward birth. It can be done! She is my hero....also made me emotional I sobbed for an hour Grin

Me, tired, sick in the mornings still, to the point where I think it's going to be a vomit. Fortunately not so far. Then I am STARVING in the afternoon, I can't eat enough. Just had a huge Nesquik and looking for flats as I got the job :)

Have to go back to work 2 months after the birth eek so really hoping she makes an early appearance. DH can't wait to be at home with her haha. So lots to think about and organise over the next few months but should be all good. I unpacked a load of baby stuff that arrived from the UK today and we went all gooey over it all. That made me feel better. But I might go back to bed again now...

Meerka · 15/04/2014 14:33

isnt swimming lovely ... relatively gentle exercise and you are weightless!

Meerka · 15/04/2014 14:41

lovley to hear about your friend living! hope you have a restful evening :)

mrsnec · 15/04/2014 15:20

Meerka what are you doing online? Hope it's not long now.

Living, great news about your friend. Would have made me emotional too. Brilliant news about the baby stuff. I'm wondering if it's too early to look. Well done on the job too and try not to think about going back to work. I'm sure you're doing the right thing about the eating. I have a thing for nesquik too.

Mrsb I love swimming too! I can't wait for the pools to warm up so I can get in. Do you find it helps the nausea at all?

Again thanks for your support. I agree about my age I think it's average now. It's only this guy and the admin that puts me off this hospital. It has some major plus points. It's spotless, modern, small, lovely nurses and all the wards have sea views and balconies! The private clinics don't do c sections they send you to the hospital I'm at and one of those clinics I've been to and its old and ropey.the nearest neo natal is over an hour away (Nicosia)it's the biggest hospital on the island and its busy and hectic but the hospital I'm at has ambulances on standby all the time to transfer patients to Nicosia if they need to.

I'd also learned that there is a huge stigma here if you have disabled children its like a curse so the doc thought I was being irresponsible by not being tested. So my issue with him is mainly a cultural issue which I sadly, come across too often here.

mrsb87 · 15/04/2014 16:20

While I was there I wasn't nauseous at all which wad lovely. I was however very aware that my belly kept on popping out of my tankini top and I was very aware that my boobs weren't far behind...I hadn't noticed how big they were!

We will keep you entertained meerka, I bet you're a bit bored?

PunkStar · 15/04/2014 17:04

Living congrats on the job, that's brilliant!!!
Whenever you have to go back to work after mat leave it feels upsetting, but you will be prepared and it sounds like a great opportunity for your family :-)
I hope to be doing bits of work around the four month mark again.

MrsNec sounds like you're at the best place just your consultant is a dick, if you can ignore his attitude problem it should be great! Whenever he talks like an idiot just let us all know about it and we'll put him in his place ;-)

I tried swimming last week, was really hard! Painful on my hip and I got so hot. I think I must have got really unfit :-( used to be a fitness fanatic before pregnancy, grrrrrr.

Meerka hope it's not dragging too much and the induction does its stuff soon.....keep us posted

Meerka · 15/04/2014 17:19

thanks again .. Heh yes i am bored, punctuated with distinctly not-boring contractions which, they annoyingly assure me, will go away soon until they start the whole thing again tomorrow (slow induction with foley catheter). husband is playing on our son's tablet, the annoying bugger! (love him really)

its an arse how fast you loose fitness isnt it punk. How are you doing now?

mrsnec its awful how some cultures are with disabled people. I find genearlly there are real culture differences even between the UK and the NL, which are pretty close in many ways. Must be notably bigger in Cyprus, I guess.

LucindaE · 15/04/2014 17:53

Ah, Meerka that is not nice, gentle pats on offer.
Waves anxiously to all, leaves flapping.

Bon courage meerka!

I was off to see my gynea this week. She's a lovely lady but very french and I am not sure she totally gets what I tell her. I have mentioned the nausea every month I see her, this time she noted that I had only put on 2 kilos since the start of the pregnancy and asked me if I am not eating! Well, duh but I have been telling her each month that I can't eat! She then suggested some vitamins, but warned me that they cause stomach upset and nausea - yay, finally we are communicating!

On the plus side I managed to convince her to write me a prescription for the Harmony test, apparently it was only last week that the French government wrote to all gyneas about it! She was very worried about a false negative result (!!!) but I managed to talk her off the ledge!

Meerka · 15/04/2014 19:38

boo that's great news about harmony. really good :)

thanks mother hen. tbh its boring but just so glad that with luck, it'll all be over n the next 2 days ....

Oklahoma · 15/04/2014 21:01

Meerka thinking of you lots! Hope it all goes smoothly.

mrsb87 · 16/04/2014 07:51

Oooooh any news yet meerka??

I have my 16wk checkup today and meeting my midwife for the first time!

Meerka · 16/04/2014 09:15

no, not a flicker today so far! Im sure the baby wants to be born, he keeps wriggling and wriggling, but so far the contractions are very quiet. oh well, at least I wont be leaving the hospital til we got a lovely little newborn in our arms :)

I hope the meeting goes well mrsb and you click well :) and that everyone is reasonably okay today

LucindaE · 16/04/2014 09:19

Meerka How are things this morning? Here's some Thanks
Booboostoo Fill me in on the harmony test. Is it something to do with the cervix?
It's a bit awful that people stigmatize parents of disabled kids over there - of course, that happened here a couple of decades ago - and I still hear the ugly terms all the time round here, unfortunately...
