I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome back lucinda, hope you're feeling better now. Yeah, you never forget HG do you, when you're sick it all come back to you

did the flight go okla?

elizabethsmum · 12/04/2014 13:22

Hi all!

Glad you're feeling better lucinda as you and meerka say it is a stark reminder of the horror of hg- you never forget....!

Hope the flight went ok okla I flew long haul in both pregs but amazingly got through ok both times. I have been sick on planes when not suffering with hg (once all over stewardesses shoes Blush )

LucindaE · 12/04/2014 14:13

elizabethsmum Grin about shoes - I expect she claimed them on expenses. Meerka Thank you, I do hope you feel a bit better today?
xx

Meerka · 12/04/2014 15:56

a little bit yes, thank you. it's nice not having to be in bed all day, though I did just have a super nap :)

Asked my lovely gybne about this weird fog in my brain and she said a lot of preg people get it earlier on in the preg. Apparently it's that darn HcG hormone on the rise again. It blocks the receptors in the brain and you have a form of temporary dementia! (it goes awya again pretty quick though afterwards).

Poor stewardess, but I expect she'd had worse happen!

LucindaE · 12/04/2014 19:57

Meerka Hugs about dismal life in bed. . I remember being incredibly forgetful, I don't know how people keep working and not making terrible mistakes, and that's leaving Hyperemesis aside...

Booboostoo · 12/04/2014 21:02

Meerka temporary dementia???!! Christ I have a deadline for a paper in early June! It's going to be a garbled collection of incoherent crap, isn't it?

elizabethsmum · 12/04/2014 21:07

Pregnancy brain gone mad! I don't think my 'lost' brain cells ever came back Wink

Meerka · 12/04/2014 21:11

oh it's not that bad, it doesnt mean we're gibbering idiots! but there's quite a lot of evidence that there are brain changes, thank god temporary, during pregnancy apparently. Partly it's things rewiring so that our focus becomes the baby after birth. That's why we become so forgetful.

and some people never get the fog at all! Never got it myself even when teh HG was at its worst, presumably when the HCG was way high. I'm sure you will be fine =)

Meerka · 12/04/2014 21:53

sorry never got the fog in the first months (only the misery of hg). the fog only descended these last few days.

Lottiedoubtie · 12/04/2014 23:38

Brain fog sounds familiar here....

So wed, thurs, Fri were ok days - got up, showered, left the house etc...

Today I woke up dizzy fortunately that only lasted a couple of hours and I've been able to eat relatively normally although have spent all day in either bed or the sofa, nauseaus. So a 'bad' day but nowhere near as bad as the bad day I had after the last run of ok days.. So lets see what happens tomorrow!

livingzuid · 13/04/2014 09:49

Sorry to all who are feeling rough. And for silence. Feeling rough as well, not getting much sleep at all. Hope everyone gets better soon and meerka if I forget good luck for Tuesday!

Lottiedoubtie · 13/04/2014 10:07

Morning! Sorry you're not sleeping Lizard that's no fun, sleeping is the only refuge!

I slept in this morning till about half an hour ago, and woke up feeing good, no dizziness, felt ok. Sat on edge of bed, started to chat to DH and.... All hell broke loose, ten mins of retching and upchucking bile. Lovely... Actual traditional, 'morning sickness' haven't had that in awhile. Don't actually feel too terrible afterwards either, so going to attempt breakfast in a min. Fingers crossed, am back in bed though!

LucindaE · 13/04/2014 11:48

Livngzuid You poor thing, it is too bad about not being ale to sleep, as Lottie says, it can be the only respite tat times.
Lottie That bile run sounds foul, but glad you felt better afterwards. And congratulations on good days.
MerkaIt's interesting the way some woman have it and some not, not the Hyperemesis, lol, I mean the brain fog thing, and some have it throughout. I remember a cab driver waiting patiently for two minutes while I remembered the name of a place - but his wife currently had it too. I had it throughout, and once I used to be able to keep all my appointments without a diary. Can't do that these days, but that's probably old age. I'll say good luck for Tuesday in case somehow I don't hear again from you before. You've been a star for comforting and advising others.
I hope Everyone is surviving.

Morning all. Sorry for the radio silence over the last few days have been locked out in the password reset.

I survived the flight (thank goodness for sedatives) and most of the next day too. Minor crisis mid afternoon but luckily it's sunny here so I just lay down in a park and had a nap.

Sounds like everyone is having good and bad days. It sucks never knowing what's going to happen I like planning so find it incredibly frustrating!

Meerka super excited for you!

Lottie I get that bile run every day when I wake up. It's foul isn't it? My afternoons have been better recently but I still can't function until about lunchtime.

Living that sounds rough. Lots of sympathy.

Lottiedoubtie · 13/04/2014 13:05

Sorry to hear that okla but glad you survived the flight- well done!

Breakfast stayed down, but my stomach is sore from the retching and constipation so I've stayed in bed. In fact DH has joined me! He put a TV programme on we've been waiting to watch and then promptly fell asleep- having a baby is going to massively change our lives isn't it Confused Wink

mrsb87 · 13/04/2014 16:56

Hi everyone! The wedding was wonderful yesterday, the cold I have stole my voice and kept me coughing all day. It was a super long day as I was doing the hair and I had half an hr to get ready!! I managed to eat and enjoy most of my 3 course meal which surprised me!

Today we have taken the fogs out to a national trust garden for a lovely walk and a cream tea! Thoroughly spoilt today Smile

Still having my morning bile runs at 16wks!

LucindaE · 13/04/2014 19:35

Okla Congratulations on surviving flight.
Sorry to hear about bile runs for you and Lottie. Lottie I found that baby asleep in bed lying between us, ready to grouch if moved - did change things slightly Shock,
Mrsb87 Great news about the wedding and a three course meal!

Morning everyone!

Glad you survived the flight okla. A snooze in the park sounds lovely.

I'm still getting morning bile runs too. Hope they don't last much longer they are most unpleasant.

Glad you kept your breakfast down Lottie.staying in bed sounded like a good idea.think you might be right that having a baby is going to massively change your life I was talking to Dh about it yesterday he hadn't thought about any of the practicalities!

I agree Mrsb that sounded like a great day all round.

I collected my results from the lab on Saturday for my blood work and urine analysis. Everything is fine which is great but they did comment that I wasn't drinking enough so yesterday I tried to get more liquid down but it made my nausea worse and I was sick a few times in the afternoon which was odd as I'd had a few puke free days apart from the morning bile runs. I'm going to try snacking on more watery fruit like melons and grapes to see if that works anyone got any other ideas? They're aren't many actual drinks I can stomach.

livingzuid · 14/04/2014 08:11

Feeling switch more human today, just collecting a huge box of goodies for the baby :) I slept most of yesterday and a macdonalds sorted me out although I am sadface about how crap my diet is.

oklahoma great news on the flight, how nice to be somewhere warm and sunny. I'm bundled up against the weather today, cold and windy! Would stay put wherever you are if you have the choice :)

mrsb it's definitely progress hope that you don't get aftershocks as a result. It's so nice to enjoy a meal.

mrsnec tonic water, diet coke, full fat coke, lucozade type energy drinks, frozen Capri sun, ribena, Slush Puppy all of the above done with oodles of ice if not already frozen. I'm on red Slush Puppies at the moment and my water I put in a sports bottle with tons of ice in and sip it slowly but regularly. I close my eyes to the sugar, caffeine and how bad it is, it is all liquid in the end.

Or funnily enough a slice of lemon or lime in hot water also was good. Which is also healthy!

I'm sorry you had such an awful time at the consultant. That is just terrible to have to have that. Chances of anything being wrong at the NT scan would be exceedingly low and they would have spotted something untoward at the 12 week scan anyway. Can you switch doctors?

lucinda hope you are better now.

chaffinch

lottie dh and I spent most of yesterday in bed with netflix it was fab. Enjoying it whilst we can!

livingzuid · 14/04/2014 08:12

Much not switch!

mrsnec · 14/04/2014 08:33

That's brilliant advice living. At the moment I'm drinking sour cherry juice, full sugar coke, chocolate milk and lime and soda with the odd strawberry slush but hot water and lemon and frozen capri sun both appeal. I think you are right about closing my eyes to calories and caffeine. I think that applies to food as well but maybe now I know my blood sugar is fine I shouldn't worry and just drink what I can. I wish I could do diet drinks and usually have several a day but I have an aversion to anything with artificial sweetner in it.

I know I was fuming with that consultant. If I was 46 I could understand but im only over the threshold by 4 months! I have a friend here who is already a parent and knows some ex pat mums who had their babies in that hospital so she's going to do some digging for me. She was also halfway through doula training before she moved here and didn't realise there was a call for it here and is considering picking it up again so I have more support here now which is very reassuring.

Sorry everyone that was a bit self indulgent! Do hope you are all ok.

livingzuid · 14/04/2014 08:53

Oh yes I drink a lot of full fat milk how did I forget. Sometimes with chocolate nesquick. Sorry can't spell. Milk thing only kicked in after 20 weeks or so though. Now I have a pint a day and it has to be full fat.

The drinks thing is so odd. Nearly all sugar stuff and full fat things make me want to puke but the slush puppy is fine for some reason. Here it is because it is a bit tart flavour.

As you say, if the blood tests are coming out fine then there is no need to worry. I am amazed that I haven't seen a cholesterol rise and my BP is even going down again. So we must take heart from that :)

Great to hear you have more support in rl too. That was inexcusable to be spoken to like that. I have been totally self indulgent on this thread sometimes and I think in our circumstances it is allowed Grin

Meerka · 14/04/2014 09:13

thanks for the good wishes. It still doesnt seem real.

hope everyone is managing the monday morning. And that you find a new consultant MrsNec, that one sounds as if they shouldnt be let near a pet hotel never mind preg women.

LucindaE · 14/04/2014 10:52

Meerka Hugs and best wishes again! You've been wonderful at encouraging others and giving advice- when you're busy with a new baby, what will we do without you?
Mrsnec Like others, I'm still outraged at the rudeness of that consultant - as I posted further below. Not sure of your age, but he has no right to be judgemental about it Angry. I found combined sugar and sweeteners, as in Fanta orange, OK, but the diet stuff makes my head ache for some reason.
livingzuid Glad you feel a bit better. When does OH complete his course?
HopeEveryone is reasonably OK?

mrsnec · 14/04/2014 15:14

Thanks all and best wishes from me too meerka.

I'm only just 36 so not exactly past it. I'm also angry at the receptionist as I booked in in person instead of over the phone so I could be sure they were looking at my records when they made my apt. So she knew my dates, my age and my history and assured me waiting until 15 weeks was ok. Also I realised that in my last pregnancy they only ordered hcg tests not the full blood work they did this time so they must have known then it wasn't viable but didn't tell me. I'm starting to have some doubts about the hospital so hoping the mums my friend knows can put me at ease. Anxiety doesn't help the sickness. But I have no appointments to worry about for a month so that's good!

Hope everyone is ok today.
