I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome, ThePrisonerOfAzkaban and Frankiebuns frankiebuns Really sorry you are bouth suffering from other thorrible things as well as this, which is bad enough. You'll find lots of suport here. My goodness, #ThePrisonerOfAzkaban minigitis and pneumonia - that's awful, and long stays in hospital. I take it you're on Ondansetron as you've been so ill? frankiebuns Is salad what you can bear, that's unusual, most people find themselves having to eat rubbish and then get told that's to blame like livingzuid about ice cream.
mrsb87 and Okla Oh no, what a disappointment. Okla I think I was very lucky with the Acupuncture; some have a slight improvement with the wrist bands. I do hope it works well for you.
mrsnec Lottie and Punk that nausea is dismal and exhausting.
Totes It is so difficult with a sleepless tot anyway, you are being a hero coping with that and Hyperemesis.
Tallyra I didn't know that about waters and turning. Certainly, I think a vaginal breech birth sounds grim and my friend was probably very lucky.
livinzuid We were wondering where you were. I hope the neighbours are being a bit quieter and you're getting some rest.
Meerka I hope you're taking it easy? (cluck, cluck).
Waves to elizabethsum.
Sorry if missed anyone/cross posted.

Welcome azkaban what a nightmare! Which drugs have you been given most recently? Have they let you have ondansetron?

MrsB sorry your breakfast attempt was in vain.

Congrats to the new arrival and those in single figs.

Apologies to all others not mentioned. Bit preoccupied.

Had combine test and scan Wednesday.

Then worst day of sickness ever even including HG with ds. Am due back tues as consultant wants to look at steroids due to my weight loss.

But all that made me forget the blood test results and a call if a prob.

1 in 40 risk of downs. Am shocked and currently booked for cvs on Monday at kings. Dh not keen due to 1% risk m/c. Don't think I can manage a life or leaving behind me a child with special needs. Always thought I could but now seems real. I know 2.5% pos risk 97.5 not but...! Harmony will only improve that to 1% so seem a logical to go for cvs. Don't think dh will ever think termination is an option.

Such a shock. Hcg beta was 2.5 and other 1.13 so hoping Hcg is high, hence HG, but others are normalise I nuchal 2.5 age 39.

Booboostoo · 29/03/2014 11:35

Welcome azkaban! What a rough time you've had of it! I hope things get better soon!

mrsnec I had a tummy from 5wks and everyone said it was bloat but it's never gone down and I've had to wear maternity wear since then. It's not as if I've been putting on weight either because I've not been eating much due to the HG and have only put on 2kilos so far (16wks).

pickofthepops what a worry for you! Just keep thinking of the positive statistics and they are only statistics NOT an answer. I'm glad your cvs is so soon and fingers crossed the results will put your mind at rest.

LucindaE · 29/03/2014 11:37

Pickofthepops That's awful for you with the worry. It is dreadful waiting for the results, and I had sharp pains at one point just after the procedure, which went off. The odds are so much on your side, my brain's not working well today, but isn't that only something like a two and a half out of a hundred risk, after all? I found the worry made sickness worse, I had a 1 in 33 risk given (about ten years in advance of my age). Hugs, the worry is the last thing you need.
xx

LucindaE · 29/03/2014 11:39

Sorry, Booboosto and Pickofthepos My brain really isn't working today, that message was meant for Booboostoo. Sorry about worst day of sickness, too. How much weight have you lost now, oh dear?

Congratulations doomfinch! He is absolutely gorgeous. Well done.

Oh dear pick, just the added stress you don't need at the minute. Glad they can get you in for CVS so soon, the waiting must be terrible.

Tally My little one's breech too at 32+4. Lots of time to turn but I'll take planned section at 39 weeks over the alternatives if he doesn't turn.

Thanks for the due date list Lucinda, every birth story is one step closer for the rest of us!

Day 3 of no vomiting here. Bliss!

Booboostoo · 29/03/2014 11:44

I think it was correctly meant for pickofthepops no?

No worries my brain turns to mush when pregnant (and is not much good the rest of the time!)!

mrsnec · 29/03/2014 11:46

Sorry to hear that pick, I am in two minds about the tests and I was talking to some very supportive ladies on a thread about it yesterday might help you having a look at that. Do let us know how you get on i agree with boo about the cvs.hope the steroids help too.

Well I did moan about not having a bump. I I've not bought any maternity wear as I see it as tempting fate so I'm living in anything with an elasticated waist and the clothes I didn't throw out when I was bigger.

livingzuid · 29/03/2014 12:01

Was up at 3am gaah. Went for some rambutan at 5am to stave off vomiting then dozed off again at 7 for an hour or so. Sigh.

punk yes forgot to say that sounds like a living hell having to go away with family so soon after the birth. Surely we just want our peace and quiet around then? Confused

Work-wise if I am successful it will be 2 months after giving birth but then if I had found work here I would have gone back after 12 weeks as statutory minimum is 16 and you don't get paid for anything extra. You have to take a minimum of 4 weeks pre birth, so it doesn't make a huge difference. Easy for me to say pre-baby but DH will be at home instead being a SAHD and studying (very proud of him for starting his degree, good timing really). So as long as there's nothing physical stopping me and my bipolar medication does what it normally does, it shouldn't be a problem aside from an emotional one :)

I think he's secretly looking forward to it! If we find a little place near work and they are flexible on hours which I think they are, we can make it happen. There is also the potential to be part-time for a few weeks at the start as well. It's a fantastic opportunity for me professionally if I am successful. And DH and I are turning it into a little babymoon so he's going to come and look around. He's only been to London, Devon and a day trip to Manchester. I was shocking at showing him around for the brief time we lived in London and I have to remember a move for him is a huge adventure to experience something new.

Yay us for not too long to go though :)

totes my friend has a 5 year old and a 3 year old and she said 2 was a nightmare in terms of waking up and them not having consistent sleep. My niece was the same. They all settled again but a pita for you in the meantime :(

frankie we all have different things for the taste. The most effective for me have been cups of boiling water with lemon or lime in. It's the one hot drink I have been able to have in this pregnancy, all else makes me barf. Barley sugars were nice but I have found I can't really tolerate any refined sugar in this pregnancy. Only McDonalds sundaes, why??

I also have high blood pressure - I am right on the cusp of it being a problem and it being ok. I am on so many different blinking medications I think my consultant is really reluctant to give me any more Grin and the baby is huge and moving around so they just check me every couple of weeks. I do find the lightheaded makes the HG worse though, does it for you? Not surprisingly I suppose!

azakaban gosh so sorry to hear that. Why did you have to go back to work? There is something under the pregnancy legislation which means you are able to be signed off for the majority of the pregnancy if needs be, there are a couple of ladies who have had to do that on here (can't remember it exactly sorry). I can't imagine having to work and had to stop at week 16. HG with your severity surely you can take the time off? Work and HG do not go well together :(

Gaviscon or Rennies for the heartburn are awesome. Rennies you can just suck on quietly in the middle of the night whilst dozing off.

pick so sorry you have all that worry. Hard to stay positive I know but it is still a 97.5% chance that everything is fine (I did have to google that as a percentage Blush but it looks about right). The odds of everything being fine with your baby are very high indeed. It's so alarming when they give you the stats. But you're going to a great hospital to have the test done and you'll be in good hands.

livingzuid · 29/03/2014 12:03

lucinda sorry missed your post. I have had a busy few days turning down jobs (what a luxury!) and looking for things to do with doing up the flat and a potential move home + logistics behind it. Exciting times.

Meerka · 29/03/2014 13:29

Hello everyone and frankiebuns and prisonerofazkaban, welcome though sorry that you need this thread! azkaban it sound s like you've really had a rotten time :( is this your first baby?

pops I will be keeping fingers crossed for you. I was high risk too, it's such a worry even though the chances are still pretty good. At least the CVS gives you a definite answer. Just please, please take it easy afterwards and if you get even a hint of fever, don't ignore it - get to the doctors quick.

The big bedroom is finally finished except a little patching of paint where it's got knocked) so we're trying to move clothes and things in there. In a couple days we should be able to get enough moved to get to the things we need for the hospital bag! the nausea and vomitting is getting notably worse again so we have to do stuff while I can. Like living says, time is crawling so slowly .. congrats on the interviews btw, living :)

Hope the day improves for everyone, not the best of days for most people is it.

ThePrisonerOfAzkaban · 29/03/2014 18:13

LuciaE
My due date is sept 11 :)

Meerkat
No this is my 2nd but I do have a 9 yr gap between them. Been told by my consultant not to have any more children after this one, my DP was up for having a big family I don't think I could cope with that!

Living
Had to go back due to money, (and a horrid horrid boss!) the problem is I work nights and do one 12hr day shift a week as well, means then my meds are out of sync the next day.

Can't remember who asked i'm currently on
Ondansetron
Cyclizine
Ranitidine
Prednisolone
Antibiotics - for the phenomena
And then whatever heartburn stuff I can get down me.

LucindaE · 29/03/2014 18:34

Azkaban Truly horrified you are having to work after being so ill. A twelve hour shift?! Horrors! Howver do you not collapse? I've known people go into work and collapse with this. I so agree with livingzuid. It was me who asked about the drugs you are on,and it must be so difficult taking those on time apart from exhaustion, worry about puking, etc. I just hope they are keeping the vomiting at bay.
Booboosto No excuse for me but muddleheadedness, lol.
Gentle pats to all those feeling so bad.
Tallyra has only just over two weeks to go. I do hope that baby tuns!

Well to be honest having to work is partially my own fault, I've got horse that costs about £500 per month he was due to be sold after Christmas but due to me ill he wasn't sorted out so once he's found a new home then I will be able to stop, however if the sickness stops then ill continue to work

Meerka · 29/03/2014 21:07

god, you must have a will of utter iron to cope with that much illness and a horse and severe HG. How on earth do you cope!

Lottiedoubtie · 29/03/2014 22:33

So despite a poor start to the day, it did actually look up!

DH agreed to drive me to visit my parents and grandmother this afternoon and on the way home I managed to eat a salad in a restaurant!

I feel knackered, and sick now but I haven't actually been sick today and am now safely back in a clean sheets bed so I'm counting today as a success Grin

petitlapin1 · 30/03/2014 06:31

Ooh yes lottie, clean sheets days are good days.

I went bowling last night. Not recommended, I think the vomit half way through then the ligament pains rather took the shine off it.

Loving daylight saving already today, makes the hours of pee breaks/heartburn/baby kicking insomnia seem shorter. :)

livingzuid · 30/03/2014 10:16

Urgh unsympathetic bosses. Why is it that some people necessary to behave like that to their teams? Such a pointless exercise. I do hope you manage to get some respite soon as it cannot be good for you to push yourself so much :( Have they not done a risk assessment so you don't have to work a 12 hour shift? That sounds illegal for them to not have adjusted your hours so you can sort out your medication. Sad that you have to sell your horse as well :(

Slept last night yay. And thanks petit for the reminder on daylight savings I had completely forgotten! DH now knows why he feels so tired. Amazed that you can go bowling, I'm in bed by 9 Grin

We had a friend who has a few days old son text us saying 'prepare for the lack of sleep but aside from that it's incredible'. I'm kind of hoping the lack of sleep I am having right now will be ample preparation!

LucindaE · 30/03/2014 10:50

Totes You aren't on the due dates, was that more muddle headedness on my part, how ridiculous? I've just realised! But it's so soon with you, I think you're next.
Lottie Congratulations on clean sheets, lvingzuid on a sleep and and am still astounded at Azkaban somehow keeping going. Now Petitlapin is bowling, that is too active by far! I haven't done that for years, and was never much good, but at a kids party years ago I was asked to take part, and by a huge fluke I got a strike first go. The looks of awe!Wink Everyone wanted me on their team (not knowing the truth) but I said, 'No, let the kids do it' and walked nonchalently off...
xx

OP posts:
Meerka · 30/03/2014 12:12

neat one, Lucinda :)

petitlapin1 · 31/03/2014 05:33

Nicely done Lucinda. Bowling was my effort to attend a hen do, as I couldn't face the food bit!

Husband has "tidied" my rice crispy early morning snacks away from the side of the bed. Time to engage my (loud) early morning foraging...

Lottiedoubtie · 31/03/2014 08:45

Morning! I'm still feeling quite positive, despite having to get up in the night to wee- I'm a bit worried about the night waking aspect of motherhood, before pregnancy I was a 'can easily sleep for 10-12 hours a night' person, it's already become more like 9-91/2 with the occasional wake for the loo, but it's going to need to shrink by half again isn't it? Argh!

I dreamt I got up and had a chat with the neighbour through the window at 4.45am as well, I'm 90% sure that didn't actually happen....

I'm gearing up to visit work later on, to attend two dress rehearsals. Not to work as such, just to go and support my Lower sixth pupils who I feel like I've abandoned over the last few months. Decided dress rehearsals were much better for attending than performances to parents, that would be a bit much!

Oklahoma · 31/03/2014 09:18

Morning all. Just logged on after the weekend and have pages to catch up on!

Lottie if you face going in it will be nice to see the kids I'm guessing?

I have had a miraculous weekend. Friday was a particular low point in terms of HG so I stopped taking all drugs, vitamins and everything out of shere desperation (as nothing was working). I only threw up once of Sat and not at all on Sunday so I'm wondering if the vitamins were aggravating the problem? I still feel nauseous but it's at like 3-4 / 10 which I can live with and the drugged fog has lifted which I amazing. Went to my mum's yesterday and had some roast chicken. I actually cried because I was so happy. Please someone tell me this can last??

LucindaE · 31/03/2014 09:23

Meerka [grins] Thank you!
Petitelapin And thank you! I hope the morning foraging stayed down.
Lottie Maybe the talk was on the astral? Good luck with the visit - it'd be nice for you to see them.
There 's always one or two teachers on this thread, it makes me wonder if it shouldn't be put down as an occupational hazard. There was evena poor woman who worked as a cookery teacher -I did so feel for her, but she only posted once.
I hope Everyone is coping today.

Hey guys! Its been a fairly successful weekend. Helped cook dinner on Saturday night with dh. I felt rather proud of myself Grin
Worked yesterday, had a vom sesh at work but I was able to make it to the loo on time. It was so so busy in the shop, I had to refuse people in by 4pm otherwise I knew I just wouldn't leave!
Had a pukey morning, it happens when I leave the bedroom and come downstairs, there seems to be some almighty smell, that I can't pin point, as soon as ive rushed upstairs to vom and come back down its fine. No smell. So so strange, it happens every morning without fail.
I'm doing a full head of foils for a friend later, should be interesting as I haven't smelt hair colour since all this started!

Oh lucinda you never told us you were a bowling champ Wink
