the feeling of barbed wire up your "girlie bits" because the baby is pressing on your suprapubic nerve, owwww ! and palpitations which make you feel very perculiar, i didn't go mad but instead became unusually laid back and rational ! my DH loved it .

AngelJay · 16/08/2006 12:45

Yeah can remember all of mine: leg cramps, mood swings, extreme tiredness, walking like John Wayne, PILES, backache, spitting while talking (apparently you produce more saliva when pregnant!!!wondered why DH ran for cover every time I opened my mouth?) Very bad heartburn which was horrendous! nausea, vivid dreams (unfortunately Antonio Banderas never actually showed up in the flesh, shame about that!)leg cramps, discomfort at night and peeing for the whole of Europe!
Gosh makes giving birth sound like a walk in the park (Um maybe not!)

kimster · 16/08/2006 12:48

Acne!! Had loads of the stuff in the first trimester. Was paranoid about going out. Thankfully it started to clear up by about week 16.
I would also like to have known about how sore your lady bits are afterwards...ouch.

kateandfelicity · 16/08/2006 14:00

that 'morning' sickness can be 12 times a day, over 24 hour period

and that towards end of pregnancy you can't eat lots of rice with your curry as the rice explands in very squashed stomach - it does not fit!!!!!

very very annoying when all you want is rice and curry,

ellanatal · 16/08/2006 14:24

Piles, Piles, Piles! Mine have returned with a vengance yesterday and i thought i'd escaped them since i'm due on friday! And had to drive my FIL to the aiport this morning a 60 mile round trip! OH my god!!!

AlexMum · 16/08/2006 14:33

Morning sickness doesn't always go away and you can still get it after the birth and it isn't just in the morning.

Itching - either normally skin stretching itching or something more sinister.

Forgetfulness doesn't always go away

Heartburn ALL night long

Wearing thin tee-shirts and having all the windows open in November because that internal furnace has kicked in.

Growing at least one bust size and it not always going away.

Screaming at DH for no apparent reason then bursting into tears

Crying at every sad/happy story on tv including the news.

Sleepymumof3 · 16/08/2006 14:47

I went off sex completely first two pregnancies.Didnt realise lots of mums are the same and thought there was something wrong with me. Imagine surprise when i was totally the opposite 3rd time.Couldnt wait to get home to him every single day right until rhe end ! It was totally FABULOUS .
Went from quiet shy in the bedroom to chasing dh around the house half dressed every night.
And big O`s to die for [blush ]

annobal · 16/08/2006 14:57

Belly button popping out (and hurting when it rubs!)
Braxton hicks that were actually labour contractions (at 27 weeks!!)
Also right with you on the pointy stomach
Growing 4 bust sizes (not necessarily a bad thing)
the first poo - need I say more (esp if you've had stitches)

annobal · 16/08/2006 14:58

BTW - great news sleepy - think I might have me a third...

foxinsocks · 16/08/2006 15:02

getting up to pee in the night and the fact that it carries on after you've had the baby

mawbroon · 16/08/2006 15:09

Profuse sweating for several days after the birth (getting rid of the fluid retention apparently) resulting in saturated bed sheets every night.

Opening the stationary cupboard at work and wanting to eat the elastic bands because they smelled so good.

mummy115 · 16/08/2006 15:40

sickness doesnt always stop at 3mths you can have it for 7mths all times of day.
when you are violently sick you will probably wee yourself too.
gaviscon needs to be swigged down towards end of pregnancy as heartburn feels like a heartattack.
you will get needles stuck in your veins on a frequent basis and some trainee wont be able to find your vein so will stab at your arm alot.
your bump baby will sleep daily and have a football match thru the night.
braxton hicks do hurt so does breastfeeding.
epidurals are wonderful things to have during childbirth the entonox thing should just be used to hit the midwife as she pulls your innards out without aneasthetic.
you mat not be able to walk for a long time afterwards.
say goodbye to sleep FOREVER
your baby will be the most wonderful cutest thing in the world and all the above will have been worth it............!

CurrantBun · 16/08/2006 15:44

LOL re. the elastic bands, Mawbroon!

Yikes re. the getting up to pee in the night. I had to get up once most nights BEFORE i got pregnant! I think I must have a bladder the size of a thimble. I'm nearly 12 weeks now and already up twice a night ... it can only get worse.

Don't mention the acne - feel as self-conscious and scabby as when I was 16. It's getting slightly better now but still across my chest and shoulders. Glad it's got cooler as I felt faintly ridiculous in high-necked T-shirts when it was 33 degrees and everyone else was in strappy vest tops.

spinamum · 16/08/2006 15:56

having a baby dosen't stop you being broody and being pg and having a yuky time dosn't put you off having more.

surroundedbyboys · 16/08/2006 16:27

i had no idea that the rude and vivid dreams were a pregnancy symptom. i had such a naughty dream about alan sugar when pregnant. couldn't believe it when i woke up. phew, feel rather relieved now.

AngelJay · 16/08/2006 19:00

Ah Ha! I forgot to mention 'The pelvic floors'!!!! Does anyone actually do those blessed exercises, pull in hold for ten, release!!! Oh the joys! You can always tell the women who've had babies. they're the ones who cross their legs everytime they sneeze!!!!

Gingeme · 16/08/2006 19:05

Thats exactly why you should do them!!

AngelJay · 16/08/2006 19:10

Oooo well I guess you're right. I have started thankfully. Got a kit from Boots and it's quite good. Should be lifting weights like Arnie by the time I'm finished! :0

RuthT · 16/08/2006 19:27

I really wish I had kept a diary now

Lots of the same

I had restless legs for the whole of my pregnancy which drive me insane

The fact that you cannot take any drugs at all and even paracetamol is frowned on

The fatc that you and your bump seem to be public property. People feel that they can just walk up to you and comment on the size (normally to say how huge you are) and touch your tummy - which set me into apoplectic rage

Babies head bumping on your cervix - a wierd and painful experience

Reactions of baby to music - lovely

Such an intense reaction throughout pregnancy to smoke and fumes (namely being sick) that hasn't completely gone away.

Being terrified of having a poo after giving birth

That you worry all the way through about giving birth and in reality that it is merely the start and not the end

AngelJay · 16/08/2006 20:40

Hi Ruth T

Yeah sympathise with you. Cigarette smoke used to make me feel sick too.No what you mean about birth! I worried all the way through the pregnancy but hey! that gas and air is great stuff and so are epidurals when they work right. Had to have one for my blood pressure! It did'nt numb all the pain but it was good stuff! DH wanted me to bring some home so he could try it!

2mum · 16/08/2006 21:00

I went off chinese food the whole of my second pregnancy, nobody told that could happen! Cooking smells made me feel sick for months. Back pains, heartburn, having to walk with one hand under my bump as it felt so heavy and one hand on my back as it was so sore. Anything that wasnt maternity clothing felt very uncomfortable around my bump. Nothing can desribe the pain of childbirth properly so im not going to try and describe it for anyone who hasnt yet been through it.

Frizbe · 16/08/2006 21:14

Massive increase in sense of smell and for months afterwards too, I can still spot which one of my kids has pooed/farted and one of them is now potty trained! the other is nearly 6mths

AngelJay · 16/08/2006 21:21

Know what you mean 2mum and Frizbe that's pretty scary! My sense of smell actually got worse! Still not a hundred percent! (has it's advantages though)

AlexMum · 16/08/2006 21:59

Just remembered some more....

Sore hip when you lie on one side too long at night which results in you having to sit up to change sides.

When you've still got morning sickness at 8 months, Gaviscon will make you throw up. Let's hear it for Rennie tablets, by the mountain.

Brushing your teeth makes you throw up.

The smell of meat cooking had me running for the nearest bucket.

Things that used to smell pleasant, like air freshner, cleaning products and toilet blocks suddenly smell disgusting.

Pg can affect your eyesight.

If you've got bad morning sickness you drive everywhere with a bucket/bowl, some paper towels and a bottle of water + a clean top.

Two breakfasts are never enough.

Feet can get stuck under your ribs.

Not being able to eat because there's bum in your stomach and then 10 minutes later you're ravenous because it's moved down.

After the birth you become incapable of speaking in complete sentences while the baby's awake.

You don't get a good night's sleep after you've got rid of the bump.

No matter how many people tell you how hard it's going to be after the birth, you cannot possibly understand.

lemonaid · 16/08/2006 22:03

You will know where every public toilet within a 20-mile radius is. And the concept of peeing any time you pass a loo in case you don't pass another for ... oooh ... five minutes or so will become your constant companion.
