I have LMAO at this thread! Hairy belly, smelly farts, constipation, toxic wee, cold sores, bad skin, heartburn, backache, indigestion, constant hunger, feelng sick when you've eaten too much, feeling faint, waking up at 3am for a pee and something to eat, no sex, paranoia..... sat here chuckling to myself.

PS Do you really get aches/cramps at 18/19 weeks coz bub is moving upwards? I have bad aches today? Also has anyone else had low blood sugar levels & feel really weak? I get it after I've eaten? Still LMAO!!!

MrsJohnCusack · 15/08/2006 21:23

Oh I know another one - it's a myth that everyone blooms in the 2nd trimester

some of us just feel like utter shite for the whole shebang and want to kill all those people who say they feel fine.

And another thing - swelling. Of EVERYTHING. So you feel like Mr Blobby

Ah, it's such a magical time.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/08/2006 21:30

That pregnancy sends you stark raving mad .

4th preganacies in my case, during the first 3 I stayed really quite sane

lemonaid · 15/08/2006 21:32

Daisypops -- well, I definitely had pains at about 18/19 weeks which IIRC was when baby gets to around your belly button, and I remember that lots of other women from my FF due date group had them at around the same time. So I'm assuming it's normal.

Lilypie · 15/08/2006 21:33

After giving birth your hair falls out. Scared me to death.

bramblina · 15/08/2006 21:43

Veiny boobs. It is so wierd. And so true.

hester · 15/08/2006 21:50

God YES about the cramps thing - nobody tells you that very early pregnancy feels just like PMT.

Oh, and what about the ever-changing bump size? Trim in the morning, mammoth by the evening, small again next day...

FrayedKnot · 15/08/2006 21:54

Has anyone mentioned crotch zingers?

Those indescribable sensations you get in your "lady bits" when the baby tap dances on your pelvic floor?

weirdbird · 15/08/2006 22:15

"crotch zingers"

What a perfect name!

I had forgotten all about them till this week when they started again, it can feel like they are trying to kick there way out down there!

And not only swigging Gaviscon from the bottle, but carrying a bottle in your handbag!!

Xavielli · 15/08/2006 22:32

Palpitations.

People who see you on a bus with a 14month old in a pushchair, an enormous bump and crutches asking you to stand up because they are 50!!!!!!!!

After pains after 2nd labour! owie!

threebob · 15/08/2006 22:34

only being able to pee an eggcupful each time and the relief of finally doing a great big one after you have had the baby.

moonshine · 15/08/2006 22:42

That you become public property and fair game for all types of comments on your appearance/fertility/parenting future the moment you announce your pregnancy.

That you will probably poo in front of an audience whilst giving birth.

That you will lose any last shred of dignity by the time you have given birth.

Thell · 15/08/2006 22:52

You and the baby will both shed a layer of skin after the birth.
This is particularly unnerving when your linea nigra / brown belly button COMES OFF.

You can become sensitive to foods and/or chemicals eg new food intolerances, washing powder rash, etc
I sat in bed crying at the end of my preg with a hideous itchy painful rash for 2 weeks from washing powder.

OMG palpitations! Breakfast cereal used to give me a mega sugar rush and make me dizzy!

Thell · 15/08/2006 22:55

PS: to avoid peeing over everything when providing a sample, I used a plastic drinking cup to catch it - rim can be placed right against you to prevent splashes - then transfer to the sample pot. Ta da! No wet pot label!

cece · 15/08/2006 22:56

stretch marks

Thought I didn't have any till I went maternity clothes shopping and looked in full length mirror. Had loads at bottom of bump so I couldn't see them with DD.

With DS - who was over 11 lbs - I had so many stretch marks they were all over and bright red. Frightened the life out of mmy sister!

Gingeme · 15/08/2006 23:17

Thankyou Thell.
Dont forget the huffing and puffing when you sit or stand the third trimester or basicaly do anything!!!

sockmonkey · 16/08/2006 07:48

Suddenly finding coal and chalk to be very very tasty, and ruining teeth. Smell of petrol was good too.
Also the wind...even DH was impressed!

fisil · 16/08/2006 08:18

Most of these have been said, but ...

... that you can bleed during pregnancy (regularly) and not miscarry (in fact, out of 3 pgs, the only one in which I didn't bleed at all was the one that miscarried!)

... that being pg isn't about a big bump and odd taste in food - in fact they are the least of your worries

... not being able to wear contact lenses ever again

... going from being the world's most anally organised person to one who couldn't find a piece of paper I'd had in my hand 2 seconds ago (usually still in my hand). Luckily I recovered from this one within seconds of giving birth.

spinamum · 16/08/2006 09:18

the mucous plug was something I never knew about til I became pg and there was no avoiding it. (And I think myself quite well informed medically)
Also that the fact that I was an energetic version of me with a bump in my first pg, I'm a pale lumpy hag inmy second one and have no energy. Don't let that put anyone off though

DollyP · 16/08/2006 09:42

LTH, I am totally bonkers this time round! Was only marginally mad before. Am paranoid about DD swallowing something she shouldn't / choking / tying herself in a knot in her blanket etc etc. Can't start on the worries about my health, we'll be here all night.

Maybe I should get out more

bigfatbump · 16/08/2006 09:42

Just how scary the first poo after delivering would feel, or was that just me? Thought I was going to lose my innards.
Cath

Feet growing a whole size (and not returning to normal afterwards!) Gave birth in Jan - it was snowing, and was still wearing flip flops as they were the only things that would fit on my massive feet!

Kippers for breakfast, lunch and tea.

Exactly how long that 'can't sit down!' feeling would last after giving birth. A week and a half!

The ability that I would gain for falling asleep sitting up, standing up, anywhere.

Also, how just six months afterwards, I would be wanting to do it all over again, and being really jealous of preggers people!

Katerina75 · 16/08/2006 11:33

maybe just me but I haven't seem anyone else mention that lovely symptom that goes with morning sickness - having a mouth full of saliva all the time. And swallowing it made me feel even sicker so kept having to run to bathroom to spit in the sink yuk yuk yuk.

also remember it's not all over after the baby comes out & you have to deliver the placenta - in my case it wouldn't come out & just when I was on the verge of being sent up to theatre to have it done under anaesthetic (having done the labour bit without pain relief!) I decided to try & have a wee - and out it plopped into the loo. Midwife had popped out of the room for a second & returned to find me, naked and bloody, holding the placenta up by the cord over the toilet going "it just came out..."

maverickfudge · 16/08/2006 11:34

I am 31 weeks pregnant and don't know when I should be looking at nurseries? I am hoping to put the baby in one next March/April time. Does anyone recommend any for the eastern side of the City of Bath?!
