For pregnant berries at any stage. Scary thought but this is the one where some babies will appear!

bunny we know your pain and I've felt like shit pretty much all the way through

You should definitely get yourself some time out to rest of an evening- lick that boy into shape! If you can- get yourself into the sofa and think a positive thing. Like the fact that you're pregnant- it's such an amazing and wonderful thing and it'll be SO worth it x x

jessplussomeonenew · 13/03/2014 19:19

Ah, found you!

Hang on in there bunny, the first trimester is grim but you are so nearly there. I really sympathise with the scan nerves - try to keep distracted and I really hope the time passes quickly!

The main news for me is that I've just bought my first maternity clothes - found a dress, top and over-bump jeans in the sale in new look and a lovely floaty green silk top in tk-maxx. I don't quite need the jeans yet but have definitely popped out in the last week so will be needing them soon I'm sure. Starting to get slightly furtive glances from people who don't know yet which is quite entertaining as they don't dare ask Wink.

Foodylicious · 13/03/2014 19:25

bunny I can seriously recommend taking some time off work. I was off for about 6 weeks in the end whilst I got through the worst of it and your description of 'daily hang-over' is brilliant! and also responded well to the same treatment of rest and whatever you fancy to eat!
OH had to cook a lot more during this time as at times I couldn't move around or stand for very long and had no idea when I would feel hungry or sick.
We ate a lot of fresh pasta & sauce, freezer fish and chips and other simple/quick to prepare food. I also just snacked a lot and left him to sort himself out. Best your DH gets used to having to do this now! (including the housework!)
Your body is very busy doing a very important job, its his job to look after it too!
I really did do very little during this time, it was an achievement if I got dressed every couple of days or managed to leave the house!
I felt so much better when I had been resting.
OH quite liked looking after me in the end, made him feel more involved in what was going on I think.

Foodylicious · 13/03/2014 19:26

OH has just got in from the shop with my request of bread and a selection of chocolate Grin

Tallyra · 13/03/2014 19:43

Bunny, I had to send dh out into the workshop to cook on the camping stove at some points. You need to get it into his head that some sickness is not just 'throw up and then you're fine' like some people think, it is all day long and it is debilitating.

PuppyMummy · 13/03/2014 20:36

apologies for changing the subject but random question,

Does anyone know about genetics?!

specifically eyes! I have terrible eye sight along with everyone in my family, oh has perfect eye sight along with everyone in his family.

presuming baby's eye sight is genetic?? will the good eye genes win or the bad ones or is it more 50/50 pot luck?

BlindKitty · 13/03/2014 20:39

foody so tired too today. Prob overworking myself as I'm running nutrition and hydration week next week (not sure if your trust is doing anything?). Don't know how you nurses do long days! Oh and your husband sounds amazing!

tally that's so sweet to say! I to wish we all lived a bit closer though!

bunny it's normal to feel like this. Once the 12 week scan is over hopefully you'll start to relax a bit (I did)

thunder play words with friends with me! I usually play with boodle but she effing beats me all the time

jess I bet you'll need those jeans sooner than you think! Although my normal jeans still fit got ages, they dug into me too much so moved to mat jeans and were much comfier

BlindKitty · 13/03/2014 20:42

boom I'll show you mine if you show me yours!!

Tallyra · 13/03/2014 20:44

Sorry puppy, I have no idea. I'm really curious too. Dh looks like a Viking with a ginger beard and I'd love it if baby has ginger hair (although it might be an invite for teasing too).

Foodylicious · 13/03/2014 20:50

Thanks for the reminder kitty I know we are meant to be doing something next week but I have no idea what! Must get on to our dietition and mealtimes people tomorrow!
In bed already, night berries x

SidneyBristow · 13/03/2014 20:58

Hi guys, just checking in to the new thread. Can't believe this one will be the ones with babies I "know"!! Bunny I'm feeling awful too; I would offer to scoot over on the Chaise of Quease, but I feel too seasick to move. The relentless hunger has passed, but now the idea of food repels me and the list of things I'm willing to eat is getting pretty short. At this rate my poor bambino is getting no nutrition and it's my own fault for not being able to keep down foods that might lift me from my lethargy.

re: mat clothes, I got some jeans on a big sale, not bc I need them just yet but bc I can't bear anything touching my stomach!

Waaaah!!!!! Between the nausea and fatigue and vomiting and diarrhea, I am WORN OUT. Surely this is a sign of a lot of the right things going on inside my palace of the child, right??

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/03/2014 21:04

Pregnancy vitamins Sid. I think they were the only nutrients Merklet got for the first tri! It helps with the guilt provided you can keep them down, but in the real world the baby is taking so little from you at this point then you needn't worry.
I don't envy either of you, the first tri is grim in every way.
No idea about the genetics either but will be interested if anybody finds out. Its bound to be something about recessive and dominant genes but my memory is very crap Grin

Oh dear guys, not good you are feeling so rough you poor things. Eyes on the prize and just go with whatever your body tells you as much as you can. Mashed potato was a real friend of mine in the early days.

Yeah ok kitty I'll play you- FB me your username or whatever I need?

39 weeks today. Yikes.

Tallyra · 13/03/2014 21:39

Sid, a baby was once described to me as a parasite. not nice I know but in some ways its true. the baby will take everything it needs from you, don't worry what you can eat or how nutritious it is. as long as you keep yourself going you and the baby will both be fine. trust me. I've been there big time!!!! eat crisps, rice, pasta, baked potato, sweets, anything you feel you can keep down. Read the Hyperemesis support thread for ideas of what to eat. it should also help you feel like you're not the only one out there. its horrible but its not uncommon to feel that bad!

Bunnygirlie · 13/03/2014 22:12

Thanks for the support ladies, I really don't know what I'd do without you all. These first few months when you suffer and can't get sympathy/advice from friends and family is a very weird time!

Ref genetics puppy hoping mine and DHs bad eyesight skips a generation!

Talking of eyesight, any contact lens wearers? Tried to wear mine for the first time since end jan and really struggled, are my eyes changing too?!?

sid you can keep the Chaise of Quease, I have the Rug of Retching Envy

CharmingCats · 13/03/2014 22:25

Sympathy to sid and bunny . The waves of nausea are worse than being sick. In my pregnancy week by week book it says not to worry about the lack of nutrition in the first tri. I lived on toast & pregnacare.
My digestive system is still out of sync, but more constipation now! Grrrr.

I get comments at work about always peeing too. Nice.

Only just needing mat clothes now, as bump just emerging at 19 weeks. Some parents have guessed as my mat trousers emphasise it as I have to fold the bump band back on itself!
Think I've been feeling movements he last couple of evenings. Grin
I second the suggestion of taking some time off work, if you can. I had the Xmas hols right when I felt worst and it was great just to sleep & stay in the quiet. Take care of yourselves x

Foodylicious · 14/03/2014 06:46

It's Friday, woo hoo! Nearly the weekend!

PuppyMummy · 14/03/2014 07:09

bunny I wear contacts! when you r pregnant the water content in your body changes, its different in different ppl but can change the shape of your eyes (temporarily!)

I was quite worried cos I wear hard lenses and because of other issues can struggle with the fit at the best of times but so far hav been ok.

the vision in one of mine is a little out but im waiting til after birth to see if it sorts itself out.

would be worth gettin checked but bear in mind it could change over the 9 months Smile

BlindKitty · 14/03/2014 07:14

sid wear did you get your jeans from? I need some more already! They get wrecked pretty easily btw! Although my nausea was no where near as bad as yours I found bananas good for some reason!

tally if mine comes out ginger we'll be suing the FC for not checking the sample first Grin

thunder you better not be some kind of scrabble champion now Wink

bunny I went for a contact lense check last week actually. The optician said that pregnancy affects your tear ducts so maybe that's why?

So cleaning, Zumba, lunch with friend, brew with other friend, dinner with Dh, and jack Whitehall for me today! Anyone else any plans?

PoppySeedBun · 14/03/2014 07:47

hello, berries! Thanks for the shiny new thread, merk

sid and bunny - much sympathy for the nauseous stage. I found it the worst part and was really low. Just eat whatever you can, and rest as much as you are able to. I found jacket potatoes a good answer, and plain pretzels (both hard and soft). I also took my pregnacare in the evenings, as my sickness was worst in the mornings.
Also, not to be scary, but don't panic if 12 weeks doesn't bring immediate relief. I didn't start feeling better until 15/16 weeks, and by that stage was starting to worry it would last the whole 40 weeks!

Re: genetics, I don't know about ginger or eyesight specifically, but I'm pretty sure both are dictated by multiple genes, which means that it's not as simple as 50/50, but that there are lots of possibilities in between. For example, neither me nor DH has any ginger, but there are a few gingers in both families, which suggests that there is some genetics lurking that might come out Grin

Re: mat jeans, I tried on quite a few, and the only ones I got on with were from Next - others all too skinny for me.

Goodness, blind, that sounds like an energetic day! I was planning something more like 'work, tube, takeaway, collapse' Smile

CatsCantFlyFast · 14/03/2014 07:59

My optician won't redo my eye test or contact lens fit until after baby arrives as pregnancy can have an effect on your eyes.
39 weeks today ShockShockShockShockShock who would have thought I'd ever get here? Will put (one of my last) bump pics on fb later

I just can't believe we're going to be 2 berries down very soon. It's like the end of the last epidode of Friends'!!!

So been getting loads of useful advice and baby goodies today, which I thought I'd share:

Me: I'm a bit worried about not being able to settle her on front people
Friend: best thing is to make sure Dh is holding her when she's crying. Everyone will expect the man to be crap anyway and you can do all the 'why don't you try this...stuff' and save the day Wink

Me: how do you remember which boob is next?
Other friend: always wear a hair band around your wrist!

BlindKitty · 14/03/2014 16:23

*in front of

Boomgoestheweasel · 14/03/2014 16:30

The hair and would be no good for me kitty, I'd forget whether I moved it or not! Like the plan to make the men look inept though Wink

In boob news, I've started to hand express now and am building up quite a stock in the freezer in anticipation of a slow start to breastfeeding due to backwards nipples/twin scenario. Want to make sure there's no immediate need for formula unless I decide that's the route we're going to take!

One of my nct class had her baby today (early) - has shocked me into realising it could happen at any time! Yeeek! Stay in there at least another few weeks please twinnies, I'm so not ready...
