excellent news wigwam.

squiz and alb don't panic about not feeling movement yet. I do think people just forget and/or are excited to know. I have an anterior placenta too (which I only discovered when checking my notes when panicking about not feeling movements!) and definitely didn't feel him for certain until well after the 20 week scan.

and nerdy, I hope you have felt movements again now, but I find the talk of routine in movements doesn't fit with ny little man, he seems to.be totally random! some nights he seems to having a disco alm night and sometimes virtually nothing and then a good old boogie in the middle of the day. the only thing I have noticed is he seems to get active when I am hungry. perhaps he is going to like his food as much as me!

good luck for anyone with scans today.

squizita · 27/03/2014 08:30

Nerdy Hope you've had some movement ... if not call a midwife and they can tell you whether you need to pop into hospital!

...sorry posted too early.
I am sure if they doppler you at hospital it will be a relief. :)

How's baby this morning nerdy, did it become active again? Another thing to stress about... Hope he goes all bouncy!

Good luck for your scan mabel!

baking I'm making adult birthday cakes, one for my friend's 30th and one for my MIL's 70th. I was swearing away last night why I let myself in for this (well, I volunteered, won't be doing that again soon!) - I normally love cake decorating, but having to do two at once while dealing with 24-hour morning sickness (this week has been really bad) is not fun! But my friend's cake is now almost finished, and MIL's cake is going to be simple classical and understated, so can hopefully get it done tonight. Fortunately, there are so many shortcuts and helpful tools that make things a lot easier, and everyone is still very impressed with the results Grin

I discovered this morning that one of my work trousers will not fit me for much longer Shock The sad thing is that this has nothing to do with any bump growing, just me piling on the pounds - 5kg since my BFP, argh! But I am so hungry all the time, and food is the only thing that stops the nausea.
Think I will have to send DH into the loft soon to dig out my mat clothes... Well, the ones that survived, anyway. I will definitely have to invest in some more, esp for work (office-based and client-facing, so expected to be smartly dressed).

I'm contemplating telling work next week - my manager knows, but no one else. I'm hoping that I will receive my combined risk results for Down's etc. early next week, as well as then having the follow-up for the Harmony test on Tuesday, so hopefully, it'll all be low risk (as low as it can be at my ripe old age...). I really want to tell them, as I have been and will be taking lots of time for medical appointments and would feel better if they knew why I'm so often 'AWOL'...

NerdyBird · 27/03/2014 11:25

Hi ladies, quick update from me.

Did feel some movement after a while. Few small ones and a bigger kick. Then smaller ones again. This morning I've felt movements too, again mainly small ones with a couple of bigger kicks.

I googled and LOADS of people have posted about how they thought their baby might be moving less or differently around this time. Perhaps it's just one of those things. But you hear so much about noticing patterns and counting kicks - I'm worried I won't realise if something is wrong.

Also had a lot of hip pain today. Walking was a real struggle, took ages to get to the station as had to keep stopping. Sitting down seems ok. May have to go to Dr earlier than 25 weeks if it keeps up.

HopefulHamster · 27/03/2014 11:28

Hi all, just wanted to pop in and say my 12 week scan went well which is a massive massive relief. I am naturally a pessimist but I need to stop being so bleak about everything! I know there are still risks but I feel much better for seeing that there's an actual tiny baby in there. Also, I was three days behind at my early scan (6w6d measuring 6.3) and am now two days ahead! (12.2 measuring 12.4) :)

bakingtins · 27/03/2014 11:30

Lovely news from wigwam and hamster ! Big sighs of relief all round... Smile

LondonJen · 27/03/2014 11:45

Gosh Alb no wonder they say you have to grow a thick skin in pregnancy. I hope you're able to put their idiotic mumblings to one side.

Excellent news on baby engaging kjh! Your cake sounds proper grown up. Yum. Glad to hear your mw said everything you wanted and left you feeling so upbeat. How lovely.

Thinking of you mabel lots of luck x

Ooh Tea that's really interesting! Hope you don't need the sick bowls!

Nerdy glad things picked up again. Hope you can stay sitting and comfortable for a while.

What a trooper Jbrd well done getting through your cake making whilst feeling like that. Hope tonight's goes well too. And snap 5kg is what I've put on since bfp too! And for exact same reason.

Hurray Hamster I am so pleased for you. I hope you can relax a bit and enjoy your little scan high!

JBrd · 27/03/2014 15:52

Just had a call from the hospital about my nuchal plus blood screening results - risk of Down's is 1:17 Sad

Now I am hoping and praying that the Harmony test results will give me better odds than that...

bakingtins · 27/03/2014 16:02

What is it that has bumped up the risk, jbrd ? The nuchal measurement, bloods or your age? What was said at the Harmony scan? Any soft markers seen?
I hope the Harmony results brings your risk right down, but can understand it will be an anxious wait. Can you chase the results up? Maybe they'll actually have them before your second appointment?

JBrd · 27/03/2014 16:27

baking It was my bloods that bumped up the risk, age alone would be 1:60, nuchal was 1.1mm. But my PappA was 0.14, which is apparently very low (have not yet checked what it should be for low risk), and beta-hcG was 1.41.

I will call the FMC as soon as I can to see if the Harmony results have come in.

I feel really numb at the moment, can't think straight.

Ruggle · 27/03/2014 16:37

Hello!

Not been on here for quite a while, but just wanted to update with the good news that we just had our 20 week scan and baby looks absolutely lovely and healthy.
This follows a mmc at 11 weeks last July, followed by a mc at 5 weeks in November. This pregnancy started just two weeks later.

It hasn't been the easiest pregnancy. I have hyperemesis, and am still being sick at 20 weeks. I have been hospitalised once to be rehydrated after vomiting 9 times one day and being unable to keep water down....but it's been getting a wee bit easier lately, and seeing the baby today made it all feel so worthwhile!

Happy pregnancy wishes to all of you!

x

MabelMay · 27/03/2014 16:39

JBrd sorry to hear about your risk results; but I want to encourage you not to feel too low about it.

I remember when my mum was told she had a 1 in 10 chance of having a baby with Downs she asked the doctor - so there's a 90 percent chance the baby will be absolutely fine? 'Yes', he replied. And my mum thought those were pretty fantastic odds really. So I guess another way of looking at it is that there's a 96 percent chance that there will be no problems with your baby - probably higher.

I was given quite high odds in my 2nd pregnancy of having a baby with Downs and I wish I'd not wasted so much time worrying about it.

I know it's so easy for me to say as I'm not in your shoes, but try not to let it worry you when its highly, highly likely that everything will be absolutely fine.

Take care xxx

ps. my scan is in 5 hours and I'm so terrified.

MabelMay · 27/03/2014 16:40

Congratulations Ruggle! Grin

squizita · 27/03/2014 17:04

JBird Hope the Harmony reassures you. As Mabel says, you have a 94% chance of all being well even on the bloods alone. FX for you.

ImBrian · 27/03/2014 17:16

Hi, I'm 5 weeks pregnant after a chemical last month and a mmc a couple of years ago. I do have 4 children though my dd with my new partner has a chromosomal problem which I'm guessing increases my chances of having another but don't know for certain. Roll on 12 weeks please!

StarsInTheNightSky · 27/03/2014 17:26

Tea your mw sounds like a little ray of sunshine! Hmm I do find it so annoying when you get ones who only seem to want to work 9 - 5, what did they expect with midwifery?!

JBrd offering a hand to hold xxx. As others have said, of course it's worrying but try not to despair too much as yet, I have a friend who had a 1:4 result from bloods (nuchal measurement was 6 point something, age risk was 1:40, sorry, struggling to remember exact figures). She looked at it the way Mabel described, that there was a 75% chance that everything was fine, and with any other test, if a 75% chance of all being well doesn't sound anywhere near as bad. Her consultant really pushed for her to terminate, as she had other Downs markers too when they scanned at 20 weeks.
She refused, and she now has a very healthy 6 year old girl who is absolutely fine, no health issues at all. Hang in there xxx

wig really glad to hear your scan went well, fantastic news! Smile

nerdy glad to hear your little one has perked up now, they really like to worry us don't they?! I have an anterior placenta too, and I've been in for reduced movements five times in the last three weeks! Blush

Hamster that's brilliant news about your scan, great news about measuring ahead too - any thing to make the time go more quickly is a bonus! Smile

Ruggle great news about your scan! Did you find out whether you're having a boy or a girl, or are you not finding out? I'm really sorry to hear about your losses, pregnancy can be very harsh and cruel Flowers. I also fell pregnant very quickly after our last loss, and touch wood, so far so good (nearly 31 weeks now).
Sorry to hear the dreaded hyperemesis got you too, I had it badly until 26 weeks and was in and out of hospital, but then it disappeared (hooray!!! Grin) and it hasn't come back, not wanting to talk anything up though, but it might go away yet.

Alb and Squiz people's comments drive me absolutely round the bend! Angry I don't know why people feel the need to comment and stick their oar in, but it's really frustrating.
It's the smug comments that get me the most, along the lines of "Ohhhhhh...you haven't felt movement yet...? With little Chlamydia I felt movement from (insert unrealistic timetable here), perhaps you ought to have a little chat with your midwife, just to check everything's ok...?"
I got so fed up with it that I used to just say "yes, our consultant said that those with slack, baggy muscles feel movement sooner". It was a bit awful of me (I'm not known for having a long fuse, and pregnancy seems to have shortened it further Blush), but when you know someone is doing is as a stealth boast under the pretense of caring, it just infuriates me. I should add that I don't really think the slack muscles thing, it just used to shut them up rapidly, and besides, I felt movement very early this time, so that must make me the queen of slack by my own reckoning Blush. I do actually have pretty good muscles Blush.

Mabel I'll be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed that you have a fantastic scan x.

Not much news from me today, SPD seems to be getting worse which is very annoying, but that's about it. I bought some wooden toys online for our little bean too, so can't wait for those to arrive! Smile.

Hope all is well with everyone else, as always, sorry if I've missed anyone x

StarsInTheNightSky · 27/03/2014 17:29

ImBrian hello, congratulations and welcome! Smile So sorry to hear about your losses Flowers but you're definitely in the right place for support and hand holding, the ladies on this thread are all amazing and have kept me sane Smile.

fod27 · 27/03/2014 17:34

Ok ladies just a quickie - sorry I've been AWOL we've been getting ready for our arrival. I've had to put a complaint in with PALs but it got things done, had my sweep this morning and I was 2cm dilated, and cervix was thinning baby is back to back and estimated to weigh 9lb 9 - MW reckons she should arrive before Sunday! Soooo cross everything!

Sorry for the self indulgent post. Hope everyone is happy and healthy and progressing nicely xcc

StarsInTheNightSky · 27/03/2014 17:38

fod!!! Excellent to hear from you and that you're ok Smile. It's terrible that you've had to get PALS involved, but good that things are getting sorted now. Sounds really exciting that your little girl should be here within the next three days - eeek!!!! Grin. I will keep everything crossed that things start moving very soon. It's not a self indulgent post at all, it's great to hear from you and great news too Smile x

StarsInTheNightSky · 27/03/2014 17:40

fod also meant to say 9 lbs 9 and back to back Shock she sounds like she's going to be a big bouncing girl Smile xxx

bakingtins · 27/03/2014 17:41

NHS screening info says with NT measurement less than 3.5mm positive outcome is 97% - and yours is well below that, and I assume no concerns were raised at FMC scan? Nasal bone seen? Heart ok? I'm sure nothing we say will make you any less anxious, but I'd really encourage you to contact the FMC and get their perspective on it. Lots of threads on the antenatal choices board about blood results skewing the risk in pregnancies that turned out to be fine. Really crappy that you have this worry heaped on you though, having got this far... Flowers

fod27 · 27/03/2014 18:24

Thanks stars I'm really hoping that I don't end up being induced - hope your Doing well how far along are you now?

HopefulHamster · 27/03/2014 18:35

Hi Jbrd,

How long until the Harmony results? Given your nuchal was so low I will be surprised if you are seriously at risk The hcg is not that high - I'd expect it to be much higher in conjunction with a low papp-a to worry. I had a low papp-a with my son and worried and worried but I'd had bleeds early on which I believe caused it. Crossing everything for you.

StarsInTheNightSky · 27/03/2014 18:38

Thanks fod I'm not doing too badly at all and feeling pretty cheerful today, 30+5 now, so time is creeping by! Only another 9 weeks maximum until ELCS, although likely to be only 7 weeks as consultant wants to bring the date forwards.
It does sound like things are going to start for you, it's definitely sounding positive isn't it? I'll keep everything crossed Smile
