Bump size

Is anyone else out there getting fed up with all and sundry having an opinion on the size of bump? I am 33 wks pg with #2 and it really is getting me down. Bizarrely, it seems to be mostly women (including mothers) - although my male neighbour topped all recent comments - saying I looked well - just a little "plump". You would never say this to a person who was overweight so why does this change for pg ladies???
Just wish I was able to reply with a witty retort.

When you are pg it seems everyone can comment on how you look regardless of who they are. I got told I look like i am about to 'expolde' the other day (still only 31 weeks!!)

WigWamBam · 09/08/2006 15:41

Actually, they do say it about over-weight ladies ... that and more.

I think that people say these things because they want to say something but don't know quite what to say. And because bumps seem to be seen as communal property (everyone loves to touch them ... or even kiss them, as one of my friends used to do, very weird) they think it's OK to talk about it as if it's not part of you, iyswim.

I hate it when complete strangers in shops etc come and touch my bump, they wouldnt if you werent pg, it is just wierd. Havent got any pre prepared witty retorts tho always think of them when its too late, then forget by the next time.:0

shocking2201 · 09/08/2006 15:50

I have to admit that I did say "God you look massive" to my pregnant sister-in-law 8 years ago - which makes me cringe now (I do blame the fact that I'd never been pregant on this dreadful commment)

Jobot · 09/08/2006 15:56

Just remeber that in a couple of months we wont be 'massive' etc any more!!! and hopefully everyone will be so interested in the baby they wont comment on us!

shocking2201 · 09/08/2006 15:58

That's very true Jobot - experience from #1 suggests that Mummy does not get noticed when baby is around!

Hmm I remember that from #1 too, they will just start offering 'helpful' advice about what you should be doing with baby

Charlee · 09/08/2006 16:02

Everyone seems really suprise wheni tell them im 5 1/2 months pg, even though i have a huge bump, (even DP says so) so i figure they all think im just fat! I dont care i dont let it worry me what other people think, i know im going to have a little baby soon!

Jobot · 09/08/2006 16:09

i try not to let it bother me, it must be worse if you arent pg and people think you are!

1Baby1Bump · 09/08/2006 16:14

i am preg with no2 due 6 sep and the pharmacist told me i looked 'about to explode'.
i said 'thankyou very much, i think'
ive left work now but i would get people i disliked and who i knew disliked me touching me and trying to say nice things but they always ended up saying i am huge. i agree that i think they think (?!) they have to say something so say anything.
mw thinks i ma smaller this time and so do i but i still get it just as bad.

emzickle · 09/08/2006 16:19

yeah at my local pub my DH's X girl friend was there, she proceeded to have a conversation with DH, with her hand resting on my tummy... I promptly removed it, she got very offended as though I were in the wrong... made DH laugh. Me however, did not find it funny.

I'm 31 weeks, I keep being told I'm huge, and Oh... "not long now then"

I'm like "yeah smart arse you come and do it"

1Baby1Bump · 09/08/2006 16:21

i would be seething if dh's ex even looked at me, let alone TOUCH me!
well done you for removing her hand.
it's not like you know her or are her friend!!
what a wierdo!

Jobot · 09/08/2006 16:21

well said emzickle!

1Baby1Bump · 09/08/2006 16:25

god i hate ex's. they always throw their head back and laugh at every single thing your dh says when you are there.
so grim.
like i care, his kids' in my belly, not yours!!
sorry, rant.
better now.
emzickle's post reminded me.

Tiddler · 09/08/2006 16:29

im 35 wks pg and I had a complete stranger say to me in tesco the other week.. "MY GOD YOUR MASSIVE".. Y thankyou!! just what i wanted to here whilst trying to do my shopping!! and how the hell would she know, ive never seen this person before in my life, where do these people get off?? oh and a neighbour told me also that ive been huge for some time now, so she thought it would have been here by now. Not as much as me dear!!! aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

Jobot · 09/08/2006 16:32

there should be a rule that if someone is rude about your size you can make a personal comment about their appearence like 'god you have huge ears dont you!' that would stop people.

1Baby1Bump · 09/08/2006 16:39

i have been known to retort:

'but im pregnant... what's your excuse?'

much to dh's horror!!

Tiddler · 09/08/2006 16:40

I agree!! I wouldn't have the nerve.. not even if it was a member of the family.. Just before i left work i was trying to get through a little gab between the door and till point to serve some lady.. she said to me "oh im sure you'll fit through there again one day dear, well hopefully hey.., when's it due??" I replied with .. "im not even pregnant".. i know i shouldn't have, but she had caught me on a bad day, and i mean what a thing to say!! Noisy old bag!! And everyone moans about the younger generation, the older ones aren't much better.. i could go on belive me.. ive had many comments made... rant rant!!! and breathe!! that's better

1Baby1Bump · 09/08/2006 16:41

ybab · 13/08/2006 07:55

i'm 20wks pregnant and everyone is telling me i should be bigger? i'm eating well, healthy and organic, swimming in the ocean everyday, i feel the baby move numerous times daily and my midwife assures me "every pregnancy is different" and not to worry . . .i'm still slightly concerned. anyone else out there with a small mound of venus at 20wks?

4boysmum · 13/08/2006 10:28

hi i am 5 weeks pregnant with my 5th baby and already finding it hard to do up my trousers! Is this right? a bump at 5 weeks?

bensmum3 · 13/08/2006 10:44

ybab, Iam nearly 32 weeks, and a lady said to me yesterday, "I couldn't help hearing, but are you pregnant ?" and everyone that knows Iam say I'm small. Everyone is different and as long as the baby is growing steadily I don't think it matters how big or small your bump is.
