I did a home pregnancy test, exactly a week ago, which was positive. We were thrilled as we had been trying for over 6 months.
On late Saturday night (approx 5 weeks pregnant) i got a small amount of pale brown discharge. I was slightly panicked!
The following day I found blood which was bright red. This has carried on for the past 3 days. I had slight cramps on the first day but no pains since.
I went to the GP on Monday morning who referred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit. They said I was to early on to do any scans or conclusive tests. I have to go back on Friday. It is Wednesday now and I am really getting myself into a state. Have I miscarried or is this just a blip. Has anyone had similar symtoms to me and what were your outcomes?
PLease get in touch
xx

I had something similar when pg with ds. The brown discharge is typically implantation bleeding and nothing to worry about. The bright red is more scary, I agree. I just tried to take it easy, not get too panicked and hence raise my blood pressure (difficult to impossible, I know). Is it just spotting or continuous bleeding?

kitty79 · 09/08/2006 12:02

Thank you for your reply. My bleeding is quite continuous a bit like a lighter period. I am having to change my pads about 2 times a day. Everytime I go to the toilet I am willing it to have stopped! Did your pregnancy go well in the end?

It did. He is upstairs sleeping as I type!

It's horrible to have to wait it out, I know, but other MNers have had bleeding and gone on to have normal pregnancies. One of my best friends didn't realize she was pg with either of her children for 2 or 3 months b/c she had period like bleeding. They should be able to do an ultrasound at 7 - 8 weeks.

kitty79 · 09/08/2006 12:20

I know it is important to stay positive. I'm glad everything worked out for you. I am scheduled to have a scan on Friday as I will be 6 weeks then. I'm not sure if I can wait till then. It's so hard! Because I need to know so badly I did another prenancy test this morning which was positive. I am taking this with a Pinch of salt as my body could still have these hormones even if i had miscarried. I hate this waiting game!

I almost asked you if you had done another test but didn't want to get something started IYKWIM I did that too with this pg after I had had some bad cramping. It does give you a sense of relief to see that extra line, doesn't it?

How about throwing yourself into some major project for the next couple of days? Have any closets or drawer that need cleaning?

littlefrog · 09/08/2006 12:27

Kitty, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm also pregnant, 6+2, so not much further on than you. I've had problems before, and last Friday (5+5) had a scan at the EPU, where they were able to see a yolk sac, and a teeny teeny little baby with a heartbeat (not even the size of a grain of rice yet). So it IS possible to see things at this stage, although not much, and not conclusively. I know just how miserable the bleeding and waiting and hoping is - but don't forget that lots of people have this and it's all fine. Lots and lots of good wishes - and take it very easy.

jabberwocky · 09/08/2006 12:29

Oh, yes, do take it easy. I didn't mean to suggest a project that would be too physical

kitty79 · 09/08/2006 12:33

Thanks for all your encouraging words. It give me some relief to see that I was still pregannt on the pg test. I'm going to try and keep myself busy and do some ironing. We move house next week so i should be doing some packing. I feel very distracted at the mo. I am hoping that the scan on Friday will bring positive news. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll keep in touch. x

I wouldn't do to much though. You are at a vital stage in your pregnancy and given the bleeding I would be even more determined to rest.

Fingers crossed for fri xx

emzickle · 09/08/2006 13:51

I still think a packet of biscuits and a couple of good films is all you need.

shhhh · 09/08/2006 15:26

I back that up..!!!

Hi. 5 weeks 3 days pregnant and today I have bad cramps and bleeding (bright red) although not extremely heavy. Do you think this sound like a miscarriage?

pinkranger · 05/09/2006 20:26

Fingers crossed for you WD x

whitedaisy · 05/09/2006 22:05

Thanks so much! I have two children already, both were through infertility treatment. I have been married for 13 yrs and this pregnancy was quite a miracle as we managed it all by ourselves...? If I am having a miscarriage at least I know that I CAN get pregnant without help (except from my husband!!!!)

pinkranger · 06/09/2006 19:50

I hope it sticks for you x

nikie1 · 06/09/2006 20:26

nikie1 · 07/09/2006 10:49

hi kitty 79 how are you this morning?hope things are ok

whitedaisy · 07/09/2006 14:27

Hi Kitty 79 I'm in exactly the same boat with the same symptoms and my EPU scan is tomorrow. I had very bad cramps on Tuesday night and bleeding is continuous and I would say "medium" flow rather than "light". The waiting and not knowing is horrendous. This site gives us all a glimmer of hope to cling to, and if the outcome is not what we wanted then at least we know that we are not alone and can chat to others with similar problems. Really hope all goes well for you, I'll say a prayer for you tonight! Good Luck. xxx

pennygaff · 07/09/2006 19:15

hello to both ladies, just happened upon this thread please let us know what happends tomorrow. Wishing you both a good nights sleep and the best of luck at the scanxx

samnbabes · 07/09/2006 20:22

Just fell into the thread too & thought I'd share my experience with ds1 (2 1/2 now, so you kind of know this is going to have a happy ending...!) Bled through-out the pregnancy from about week 6 up til I gave birth- sometimes brown, sometimes red, usually every 3/4 days or so, sometimes everyday. Had various early scans, and lots of doc/consultant appts - all the docs I was early on said I was likely to miscarry. It was only in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy they diagnosed cervical erosion (having said it def wasn't earlier in preg.) I also bled a few times with dd. My doc says I am just a little bleeder
WHilst miscarriages are, sadly, more common than most of us realise, LOTS of women bleed in successful pregancies.
Good luck to you both - the early preg clinics are full of LOVELY supportive staff (much nicer than anyone else in hospital )

whitedaisy · 07/09/2006 22:24

Thanks to you both for taking the time to send a message, it means alot. I'm OK about tomorrow but I'm almost certain that I'm having a miscarriage. If so I will just have to try and try again! There are alot more people with much worse problems than me. I'll let you know the outcome tomorrow......??????

samnbabes · 07/09/2006 22:30

We'll be thinking of you tommorrow.
I did have bad cramps too, btw...

Try and have a restful night (easier said than done...)

whitedaisy · 07/09/2006 23:23
