I did a home pregnancy test, exactly a week ago, which was positive. We were thrilled as we had been trying for over 6 months.
On late Saturday night (approx 5 weeks pregnant) i got a small amount of pale brown discharge. I was slightly panicked!
The following day I found blood which was bright red. This has carried on for the past 3 days. I had slight cramps on the first day but no pains since.
I went to the GP on Monday morning who referred me to the Early Pregnancy Unit. They said I was to early on to do any scans or conclusive tests. I have to go back on Friday. It is Wednesday now and I am really getting myself into a state. Have I miscarried or is this just a blip. Has anyone had similar symtoms to me and what were your outcomes?
PLease get in touch
xx

Hi i hope someone can help.. im so worried :( im pregnant with my first im about 6 weeks.. yesterday i started getting very mild cramps and quite a bit of bleeding which today is still there but it has eased off quite a bit.. i went to a&e they were so unhelpful! i sat there on my own for ages for them to tell me theres nothing they can do until thursday.. i have a scan on thursday to see if im still pregnant.. :( im so worried.. is this normal? x

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 08:42

Hi Roxanne,
this is a really old thread, so you might not get so many answers. You can start a new thread, by clicking start a new thread in this topic.

Anyhow, I am sorry to hear that you are so worried. Bleeding in early pregnancy can end in a miscarriage, but many women have bleeding and the pregnancy carries on as normal. It is not a given that you will lose the baby, so don't panic.

Can you find out if you have an Early Pregnancy Unit nearby (EPU) and phone them? They are the best people to advise you.

Did you have blood taken at A&E? - you need to have blood taken so that they can assess if the hormone levels continue to rise.

Roxanne123 · 29/03/2011 09:07

Thanks for your reply! i have a early scan on thursday and no blood was taken at a&e.. they were useless!
Im not in pain anymore just small amounts of red blood when i go to the toilet now.. im hoping it has eased of and that is the end of it but im so worried andnow have to wait 2 days for a scan :(

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 09:56

Is the scan booked at your EPU.

Sorry about your A&E experience, it is horrible.

Roxanne123 · 29/03/2011 09:59

Well i rang a different hospital after my awful experience with the first one and explained it to the maternity unit who have gave me an appointment with the gyne department.. not sure if it a EPU? x

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 10:04

Not sure, Roxanne. I live abroad so we have slightly different set up. Not sure how to find your local EPU.

Roxanne123 · 29/03/2011 10:09

Well there sending me there to have a early scan and see what happens from there :( i dont seem to have passed any clots or anything like that.. so hoping its still in there! x

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2011 10:13

Phone your GP or local hospital. Or check your local hospital websites. They will tell you where/if there is an EPU. Some EPUs will allow you to self present, others require a GP referral.

Sadly, the wait and see approach is normal because bleeding in pregnancy is common. Around 40% of women bleed in the first trimester. They should have told you of reasons to go immediately back to A&E. Pain, including shoulder tip pain, heavy bleeding, strange discharge (particularly dark), feeling unwell etc.

The process needs changing, it really does. I've been there with bleeding at 7 weeks and had the 4 day wait for a scan.

Roxanne123 · 29/03/2011 10:17

i agree the way i have been treated and i have read on here some horrible stories of how people are treated when going to a&e .. i sat there on my own bleeding in a waiting room for a hour and a half for them to tell me to go home and rest.. was given no information they were so busy and just didnt care at all.. x

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 29/03/2011 10:19

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2011 10:27

I went to A&E in the end as was in a lot of pain and waited 7hrs for a scan. I understood that they were busy, had labouring women and emergencies but it was a horrible, horrible time. I hope you get it sorted out.

Roxanne123 · 29/03/2011 15:09

Thanks so much.. i feel so much more positive now after reading so many stories.. xxx

Hi im only 17 but i found out that im now 6 weeks pregnant and yesterday i started bleeding light, and it has not got quite heavy. The doctors said that i can't go for a scan for another week if a pregnancy test comes up strongly positive if it doesn't come up strong and only comes up faint they won't see me for another week. I haven't had any pains just aches, but i have had tiny clots smaller than a 5p and the blood is really red but turns brown im so scared its a miscarriage can anyone help please. Thank you x

Hi im only 17 but i found out a week ago that i am pregnant, I am now 6 weeks gone and yesterday i started having light bleeding that has now turned into heavy bleeding with tiny little clots, smaller than i 5p im so scared and the doctors won't send me for a scan till im 7 weeks can anyone help me please. I don't have any pain but i really want to know what is happening x

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 11/04/2011 17:28

Ashleigh, have a look at the link I posted earlier. It's to a list of EPUs - Early Pregnancy Units.

Different units have different policies I believe, but my nearest one would scan from 6 weeks, iirc.

Ashleigh17 · 11/04/2011 17:31

ok thank you will have a look x

Ashleigh17 · 11/04/2011 17:31

all those place are too far away from me but thanks x

AppleyEverAfter · 11/04/2011 17:38

Ashleigh ring your GP and ask for a phone number for your local EPU and if they're not helpful ring the maternity ward at your local hospital and ask them what to do. You should be able to get an internal scan done, I had one with last pregnancy at 6 weeks. Good luck.

Ashleigh17 · 11/04/2011 18:01

Thank you i will try that, im so scared was so excited when i got the news and now so worried i have miscarried x

hi they im 6 weeks pregant im bledding i av had blod cloter

NicLondon1 · 03/07/2014 15:36

I just wanted to add my experience for anyone currently having some bleeding in early pregnancy & reading this thread. At 6 weeks I had cramps and brown spotting for 3 days, I even found a dark red blood clot in the toilet... as I was worried I went to an Early Pregnancy Unit to get checked out. They found a heartbeat but the embryo was measuring very small. After 2 weeks worrying, I returned for an 8 week scan, during which it had reached 'normal' size (15mm) and heartbeat was regular. Phew! The bleeding and cramps had stopped by then, I assume it was just some sort of cleansing going on... so don't worry, it may not be a miscarriage. Just get checked out. xx

I'm 6weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My first was a boy, he is now 4 years old (in a couple of months) nothing was od or strange with my pregnancy with him.
But this time around from the start everything felt weird, dont know why. i started having brown spotting couple of days ago, and then turned into bright red type of bleeding (not to heavy though) and i have very sore cramps, and my breast arnt sore anymore.
I read that these are all signs of early miscarraige, ?
but reading everyone's stories here, is giving me hope that this is quite normal sometimes ?
I' m also in that waiting process right now.....

Naaaku · 15/01/2019 07:48
