Do babies need socks??

Thunderpantsarego · 19/02/2014 21:02

No idea. I'm going to say no.

oh crap I'm so not prepared

BlindKitty · 19/02/2014 21:03

bunny yes, let's meet up again! Just say when and where! Sick of Dh referring to you all as 'pretend' people!!!

bunny thunder thanks for the abbreviation! We need to learn a whole new set! Had to look up pfb earlier! That's precious first born to anyone else interested!

Right, I am shattered! Early night for me I think!

Precious first born?? What have you been reading kitty?

Ps you know that bunny and I are real!!

Bunnygirlie · 19/02/2014 21:16

Merk Blood and wee?!? Sounds like fun lol She is coming to my house so will there really be blood taking?

Ah and I thought it was Lovely Orange!

Kitty pretend people?!? How very dare he!

Pfb is yucky!

Tallyra · 19/02/2014 21:18

I'm pretty sure babies do need socks if they aren't wearing a babygrow. I've been given some, so they must be a thing!

Thunderpantsarego · 19/02/2014 21:20

Oh god- baby socks... The next thing to worry about! I'm sore most babies I've met haven't been wearing socks. But maybe I just know cruel parents. Oh crap again

CatsCantFlyFast · 19/02/2014 21:46

Get used to the pee Bunny, you'll need a sample for every appointment. I can not pee under pressure and didn't take a sample to my booking app so spent a good 10 mins in the loo trying to pee into a tiny pot. If I were you I'd get a sample pot from your doctor in advance and be ready with a sample for when she arrives to save you from having to do the same thing!

CatsCantFlyFast · 19/02/2014 21:54

'But maybe I just know cruel parents' snort Grin

jessplussomeonenew · 19/02/2014 22:58

I think babies are generally of the opinion that they don't need socks, so they kick them off as soon as possible! In the interest of keeping their feet warm I feel clothing with built-in feet is the way to go!

Thanks for all the good wishes! You're all very lovely pretend people!

Bunny, it does feel a bit more real but at the same time I can't quite get over the strangeness of seeing someone moving inside me when I can't feel them moving - almost makes it more unreal! I'm also slightly in limbo hoping the nuchal scan bloods will come back ok as there's just a niggling worry that is sort of in the way of really relaxing into the pregnancy. But it's one more huge milestone in the right direction!

CatsCantFlyFast · 19/02/2014 23:09

Jess it gets even weirder once you can feel it moving! Are you part of the Facebook group? (A private group where we can share pics etc) would love a nosy at your scan pic so I can have a guess at the gender Grin

Cavort · 20/02/2014 00:28

Newborns just need a couple of pairs of socks for when you can be arsed to actually get them dressed in clothes rather than the highly practical vest and babygrow combo which most newborns live in for the first few months. I recommend getting some Sock-Ons (can't link sorry) which keep socks on babies feet without the need for sellotape and staples Wink

BlindKitty · 20/02/2014 05:35

thunder really! That's what all the cool people are writing Wink

bunny the mw came to my house! I asked her why and if it was like when cats protection check your house before giving you a kitten. She laughed and then ticked the box about my house being suitable!

thunder merk I've bought a few pairs of socks but the grows I've bought have feet in them. My friend's baby doesn't keep them on for longer than 5 mins at a time anyway!

cavort lol @ Sellotape and staples! If my baby is due in may I won't need baby grows and vests will I?

jess try not to worry re your blood results. Your nf scan went well so it's unlikely there will be a problem

Butting in for some middle of the night input!
Kitty you will still need babygrow and vest in my opinion as babies get chilly. Maybe shot sleeve vests only but still necessary. Like cavort I had my baby in mainly that despite the fact that I was given loads of cute outfits for her!
You will also need a hat to take to the hospital. Mw will put it on baby as soon as it's born. I think a cotton one is best and a cheap one as it will get dirty with blood!
Right I'm off again Grin

PuppyMummy · 20/02/2014 06:56

kitty I have been having vest fear for weeks for that reason. were due end of may but I still vests and baby grows...

I veer between panic that baby will be far too hot or 2 cold if I don't hav them!!

jessplussomeonenew · 20/02/2014 07:59

Have been holding off on joining the Facebook group until we've gone public (I know it's a private group but I don't trust Facebook not to change settings without warning!). We'll be going public soon though so do let me know how to join. I'm afraid none of the scan pictures show any material for a nub theory guess!

MotherOfCleo · 20/02/2014 08:47

I second cavs sock-on advice Smile although H peed all over his socks and sock-ons yesterday.....fun times Wink I will add that this happened on dads watch Wink

PoppySeedBun · 20/02/2014 09:39

Re: socks, as both me and DH are above-average height, we're expecting our LO to grow out of newborn stuff v quickly (I was 60cm long at birth Shock!)
However, we've been told by quite a few people that you can make baby grows last longer by cutting the feet out when legs get too long and giving them socks instead.
But I share the scepticism about how long they would stay on for. Hmm

thunder extra scans are really just us being paranoid plus the fact that health insurance will pay for them (DH has insanely OTT American health insurance through his job). Also because we are seeing private consultant rather than midwife care.

jessplussomeonenew · 20/02/2014 10:00

Feeling really stupid right now - got up to go to mw appointment and sat there for 30 mins before checking my notes and realising the appt is actually 20th March. I'd put it in my diary for today, which I did vaguely think would be a bit early, but I never actually checked. Heigh ho, I'm definitely pregnant!

Thunderpantsarego · 20/02/2014 10:11

Ha! jess you plonker Smile

Well I had some bloody terrible pains last night. Was in a right state- couldn't move and couldn't breathe with the pain.

It did fade after about an hour tho so rang mw this morning and as long as it doesn't come back in the same way it's ok. Probably something linked to the baby starting to move down- 36weeks today. Feeling tired and drained this morning.

CatsCantFlyFast · 20/02/2014 10:24

Baby brain Jess!

Contraction like pains Thunder??

PoppySeedBun · 20/02/2014 10:26

jess today you are definitely pregnant Grin
I've been relying entirely on lists from about 6 weeks - and yesterday forgot to take my notes to checkup, even though I'd set a reminder on my phone to stop it happening Confused

thunder poor you - hope it doesn't come back. I feel like I've gone into a whole new level of tired this week, but nothing like that. Hope you can be nice to yourself today.

Thunderpantsarego · 20/02/2014 10:29

No merk, really sharp horrible bump pains- particularly at top. Same sort of sensation as indigestion- you know sharp stabby muscly ones? But not in stomach- on bump. Very strange, and very sore. Sad

Thunderpantsarego · 20/02/2014 10:31

Me said that feeling like this can be linked to preeclampsia, but it's usually the last thing to happen, after the blurred vision, headaches, swelling etc. so in the absence of other symptoms and seeing as it's faded now, should be ok. Just need to get myself up there if it comes back.

CatsCantFlyFast · 20/02/2014 10:51

Ouch. Well try to take it easy if you can.
I'm off back to the chiro today, although am seeing a different person. Hoping baby has made some progress into my pelvis
