Sorry if it's inappropriate Grin But DH is doing my head in!!!

This purchase is the one thing we can't reach a decision on!! I've seen a gorgeous set I like, starts off as a pram, transforms to pushchair when needed (front and rear facing as per choice) and also comes with separate car seat, rain covers and travel bag. It is £280 and DH says there is NO way we are spending that much money on a pram Hmm I actually thought it was pretty good value for all that is included (and it's gorgeous)!!

Is he being stingy or am I being delusional? Smile

Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the products mentioned on this thread aren't available any more. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing prams and pushchairs, from lightweight easy folding prams to all terrain buggies, we've seen them all. Here's our round up of the best baby pushchairs on the market right now.

Hope that helps! Flowers

We got an uppababy vista with car seat and base for about 700 from a site called trendybaby. The vista is good as it comes with the pram and pushchair bits (Cruz you have to pay for the constituent parts). Maxicosi pebble fits on the chassis with the converters. I love our travel system. Yes. It was £££ but so far I've used it every day in Central London and it's great. I was just crap at driving it for a while but now I'm less cack-handed.

My most recent pram purchases for DS2&3 were Bugaboo Cam, with maxi cosi car seat and various accessories £950. Sold recently for £600
Britax BDual double pram and two foot muffs £320 Sold recently for £210
BabyJogger city mini double with foot muffs and travel bag £390
Quinny Zapp bought from ebay for £30 but it was bright pink so bought 2nd had seat covers for £20 then sold the pink covers for £40 and the spare rain cover for £15 so it made me £5!

racmun · 18/01/2014 23:18

We bought bugaboo cameleon, car seat and adapters for approx £800 3 years ago for ds. We bought family fix base on top of that.

We're reusing it this time for dd and I absolutely love it still.

It was worth every penny IMO. It got really hard use with ds for 2 1/2 years and is still in lovely condition.

If you're the one that is going to push it most of the time then I would say you should get the final say.

My Db and SIL bought a cheap one at the same time as we got ours and were bragging about how great it was and it wasn't ridiculously expensive- guess who has gone out and bought a bugaboo for their second baby? So in the long run it's cost them more going for the cheap option.

dizhin79 · 18/01/2014 23:36

wherever you go ask for discounts, I took dh window shopping for prams to check heights, functions etc... we thought we'd just see what we could get to and got quinny buzz, rain cover, blanket, maxi cosi pebble and adaptors, 2 years extended warranty for just shy of £300 Grin we bought it there and then add I'd been looking and price checking on the Internet for about a week. I then bought the carry cot second hand for £30 this came with Mozzie net, rain cover and umbrella. £280 is definitely not top end!

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 19/01/2014 10:52

I'm so glad a pp said the Graco Mirage is good :) the box is in my bedroom as we speak Grin £100 :) my nan paid for it, it's a family tradition apparently :)

Only1scoop · 19/01/2014 11:04

Agree with prev post re discount.
We bought expensive buggy already in sale. We then had around 20 percent off matching cosy toes....(still in packet by the way) and the same off maxi cosi pebble and base. Saved us a fortune.
Always worth a cheeky ask. Worked for us. Wink

cathpip · 19/01/2014 11:16

I spent £450, that included cot attachment (that I also used as a Moses basket) foot muff, sheepskin, and rain cover. It's the only buggy I have owned and am just about to have dc3. My sister thought it was a bit expensive when I got it, but she has ended up spending more than me on numerous buggies as hers were not quite what she needed. Irrelevant of the cost if it's the perfect buggy for your lifestyle you should never need to invest in another one, so it will be money well spent!

cathpip · 19/01/2014 11:19

oh and if you average out the cost over the amount of years you will use it! I have had mine for 6 years it will do another 3 for this baby, so 9years in total for £450. :)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 19/01/2014 11:37

Does the system include the car seat or is this extra? I'm not clear. If it does it is amazing value...however, I would check reviews of the car seat online as our minimum legal standards for car seats in the UK aren't the most rigorous. Although if you aren't going to be using it often, it may be fine.

I think £280 is amazing value for a full system but as someone does say you do need to think about what you are using it for - where you'll be walking, car boot size, public transport, shopping etc...

I paid about £500 for a Bugaboo Bee and accessories 5 years ago - it was run into the ground for nearly 3 years, but very robust. With a service and dust off I'm confident it will go the full distance with no 2 who is due soon.

I thought it would be the only pushchair I would buy but it turns out I needed

  • 2 umbrella fold travel buggies - another £80ish quid - you can get them for about £15-£20 in Tesco or off Freecycle.
  • Maclaren twin buggy when we had a nanny share - about £100 our share of it.
  • travel buggy for Grandma

You can always engage your DH by pointing out it's a vehicle. Smile

Writerwannabe83 · 19/01/2014 12:04

oadbc - I do have a car so won't be using the system for long distances but would definitely like to take the babies on walks in it. I'm having a c-section so won't be able to drive for about 6 weeks and would ideally need a pushchair that's quite light to push. I don't use buses or public transport so haven't really factored that in and we live in a typical urban town. So really, I only need something basic, I just want it to lol nice too. I definitely want it to start off like a pram (facing the mother) and would like it if when it can be transformed into the pushchair the little one would still be facing me. Do most push chairs have the option to be rear and front facing though? I know that as he gets to toddler age he's probably going to prefer facing outwards and watching the world go by as opposed to having to look at my face Smile

tondelay - it does include the car seat yes. I have been reading some of these posts out to my DH and he is Gob Smacked Grin I think he now realises that I'm not asking for much!!! Funnily enough I tried going down the route of "It's the baby's equivalent to having a car" as my DH has an expensive car and pays over £200 a month on its lease!! I asked he he thinks it's ok for him to pay that much every month, but a one off payment of £280 for his son is too much??" Smile He just laughed and started banging on about the pram is technically the baby's first car, and his first car was an old banger that cost just over £200 Grin He's just being a silly sod!! He's definitely mellowing though - we have agreed to go pram shopping next weekend! I think we'll hit Mothercare first Smile

Thanks for the tip to read online reviews - I hadn't thought of that Smile

We almost bought one for about your budget and quickly realised that it was pretty awful to push and not great quality.

We actually got an icandy Pear for £300 from John Lewis because someone had returned it unused but it was out of the box.

I'd definitely get a second hand really good buggy rather than a cheap new one because it's years of annoyance with a cheap one.

A friend had the britax bsmart though and swore by it. She had really good customer service when something broke as well.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 19/01/2014 12:31

Id go for a second hand Bugaboo Bee.

greentshirt · 19/01/2014 12:35

£200 isnt expensive for a car lease either, he needs some perspective!!

Just a point about the car seat, it doesnt matter that you are only going short distances, its the frequency really, a cheap one really might not be that safe. Its probably one area not to compromise on

Writerwannabe83 · 19/01/2014 12:41

green - I would never compensate on quality of car seat. When I said I wouldn't be going long distances I meant in terms of using the pushchair, not driving Smile you're right though, he does need some perspective. It's just annoying that he is giving me all his opinions but hasn't even looked at prams/pushchairs. So how he thinks he knows what he's talking about is beyond me?! Grin

Sorry my mistake, its obvious now I read it again!

A subscription to Which might be a good idea, its really helpful for reviews and weighing up whats important to you vs cost, whats available etc

TobyLerone · 19/01/2014 12:45

About a grand. It's a Stokke Xplory.

We didn't want to use a car seat with it, so that was bought separately (Recaro Young Profi Plus, with Isofix base).

£280 is a bargain!

Writerwannabe83 · 19/01/2014 12:48

I think my DH's attitude is "A pram is a pram - as long as it has wheels and can be pushed then what's all the fuss??" Hmm Grin He actually likes the sling type things, you know where the baby is strapped to the chest? I can't use those though and if he had it attached to him I'd be constantly worried about him tripping and squashing the baby.....

OP posts:
Only1scoop · 19/01/2014 13:29

Writer....definately look at Internet reviews.... I was going to say do some bargaining but sounds like you have found one already.
Try many buggies out for the forward/ parent facing/ seat adjustment....not all do....
Didnt think my dp would be into buggy shopping.... got him in there and oh how that changed....ended up with one of most expensive.
I had all your reservations also re the baby Bjorn re him being tall, lanky and extremely clumsy....somehow it all worked out fine.
Happy Buggy shopping....bet he will suprise youWink

dizhin79 · 19/01/2014 13:41

which is doing a £1 first month trial run, I scoured which, then worked out what we could budget for, what we weren't willing to compromise on.

As said before I also scoured eBay and Facebook seller groups to see the 2nd hand going rate. Then we went to the shops to see them in real life, then given the bargain deal we struck we ended up with a new one. forewarned is forearmed!

Unplastered · 19/01/2014 21:01

Mine cost £299 for the pram/pushchair, £110 for the car seat, £45 for the case seat base, £30 for a secondhand carrycot, and £25 for footmuff. Yours sounds good value.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 19/01/2014 22:06

I forgot to add - please check the weight as well - there are huge variations in weight of prams and it's a crucial consideration if you are having a CS.

Agree with getting Which trial and reading their reviews.

EmB1715 · 20/01/2014 08:36

Mothrrcare Xpedior £250 for the whole travel system.

EmB1715 · 20/01/2014 08:41

Oh and if you get a sling please get an ergonomic one for you and your baby's health and comfort! We're saving up for a Beco at the moment Smile

xtremeraverbaby · 20/01/2014 08:46
