Sorry if it's inappropriate Grin But DH is doing my head in!!!

This purchase is the one thing we can't reach a decision on!! I've seen a gorgeous set I like, starts off as a pram, transforms to pushchair when needed (front and rear facing as per choice) and also comes with separate car seat, rain covers and travel bag. It is £280 and DH says there is NO way we are spending that much money on a pram Hmm I actually thought it was pretty good value for all that is included (and it's gorgeous)!!

Is he being stingy or am I being delusional? Smile

Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the products mentioned on this thread aren't available any more. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing prams and pushchairs, from lightweight easy folding prams to all terrain buggies, we've seen them all. Here's our round up of the best baby pushchairs on the market right now.

Hope that helps! Flowers

Mine is on DC2 now. £400 for the pushchair, £120 for the carseat, £100 for the bassinet. Then £30 for a buggy board and £20 for the replacement raincover. Plus my humongous hand me down silver cross carriage pram that has cost me £200 in spare parts (new mattress, shopping tray, rain cover and toddler seat) but retails at £1000 for the pram itself now.

we won't discuss my stash of slings

IndigoTea · 18/01/2014 16:59

OP, I think £280 is pretty good for all that

Tiptop32 · 18/01/2014 16:59

I took my dp to mothercare and m&p's knowing I wanted the m&p Luna.. We settled on the Luna. Then a few weeks later he spotted an icandy and took his mum to see it and played about with it (and then took me!) and got very excited! Guess what we're having now!!!! I would prefer the Luna but he has got so excited about the icandy (in silver meh!) that I can't say no. Thank goodness my dm who is buying us the pram loves it too.... Take your dp pram shopping - I bet he will want an all singing all dancing one!!!! I never ever expected my man to get all excited about a pram tbh - ur dp might be the same

ThistletoeAndWine · 18/01/2014 17:01

Mamas and papas have very good end of season sales! Their sola is half price at te moment for 199

NomDeClavier · 18/01/2014 17:04

Caveat: consider what you will use it for. Mine are used every day, 4 times a day so DD spends nearly 4 hours in the pram. I don't drive during a normal week and I also have a 2.8yo who is very good at walking but can be tired after a school. With DS the pram was used very little in the end, although I was anticipating much more.

oadcb · 18/01/2014 17:08

Depend what it is and whether it includes a decent car seat.

My first travel system was around the 250 mark 6 years ago. Included a britax car seat. Travel system was bulky and soon traded in for a list of various pushchairs. The only one I've ever been happy with was baby jogger city mini.

Dc2 got new maxi cosi seat and base to go with baby jogger and a carrycot.

If I had choice of new system it would be baby jogger versa. That would be more than 250!

GeordieJellybean · 18/01/2014 17:10

I think ours was about £700 in the sale but came with car seat, carry cot (which turned out to be a life saver as it was all DS would sleep in for the first 2 months) and pushchair. Not the cheapest but I love it!

rachyconks · 18/01/2014 17:10

£280 is great for that. Mine was £900 inc car seat and isofix base, only for me to get pregnant 6 months later and need a double. (It was a more realistic £300).

gemmaken · 18/01/2014 17:12

Oh gosh - I think £280 is an absolute bargain! I feel like a ridiculous spendthrift now, but after having a double buggy for my first two (15 months apart)which I ended up hating, I wanted to have the BEST pram for number 3 and we paid over £700 for a bugaboo!!!! I think it was well spent though as I absolutely loved it and still use it now and again for 3 year old.

I agree with HelpMyHair, tell him you want a Stokke or the new bugaboo buffalo and watch his jaw drop. Hehe.

BEEwitched · 18/01/2014 17:13

£450 all in with carrycot, raincover, car seat adaptors & maxi cosi car seat, but we got a good deal in a sale on a discontinued model that used to retail at around £700.

Mrswellyboot · 18/01/2014 17:16

450 with car seat rain cover footmuff.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 18/01/2014 17:16

Ive had loads, the most expensive was £400 but I recently spent £220 on a second hand p&t explorer.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 17:17

Best thing to do - drag him round Mothercare, Mamas and Papas and John Lewis. Let him have apush and fold of them and no doubt be shocked at the price.

Tbh, DH and I agreed that as I would be the one doing the majority of the pram pushing,.I could have the final say. Thankfully I didnt fall in love with the megabucks Bugaboo like he did.

I went for the Maclaren XLR, so I would only ever need one pram, and got the coordinating car seat and carrycot. Shopped around to get the best deal, all came in at £350.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 17:17

Which one do you have your eye on?

moomin35 · 18/01/2014 17:19

£280 sounds very reasonable to me. I didnt want to spend much at all but my Mum was kindly buying. I asked for the Mothercare Xtreme which was £200 (half price though seems to be permanently on sale!) it's a pram, pushchair and carseat all in one. It seemed extremely good value for a new item compared to some others Ive seen

Writerwannabe83 · 18/01/2014 17:21

It isn't a branded set or anything like that, just a really nice Winnie the Pooh one I have seen in a new baby store that has opened near us. Perhaps if I take DH to look at branded ones it might give him a reality check Smile

KLou1105 · 18/01/2014 17:24

Men just have no idea at all :-(
We spent £469 for pram, carry cot and car seat ect; but if I had my way would have easily have spent £800!

MrsBungle · 18/01/2014 17:25

Definitely take him shopping and give him a reality check! £280 is a great price.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 17:27

Maybe you could list the features of te set youve seen and tell him to go and find a brand new pram woth all those features at whatever price he has in mind.

thecakeisalie · 18/01/2014 17:27

I think £280 is a really good price for a complete travel system.

We paid £150 for a 1 year old Mamas & Papas Ultima which includes everything you'd get if you bought it in a package deal at the shop and looks like it's hardly been used! We got it on gumtree so we went to view it first before buying. We had a really old secondhand Ultima with ds1 and it was the best pram we've ever used. (and we've used a fair few prams over the years).

With ds2 we spent £800 on a Mamas & Papas Mylo which was slightly easier to use in built up areas but other than that we didn't much like it. I wouldn't buy brand new again because the prams we like are so overpriced!

Only1scoop · 18/01/2014 17:29

600 for buggy and Carrycot not including car seat or base.

mel0dy · 18/01/2014 17:31

Zero. Freecycle. Used once. All clean and as new, very chuffed! Whole carrycot/car seat system, including manual.

TheFantasticFixit · 18/01/2014 17:32

This is one item I will not compromise on ever again. You will use it every single day so make sure you get one that suits your lifestyle and your taste - you've got to push it around every day, after all.

My first pram was M&P Urbo - came with carrycot, discount on car seat etc. total £480. Neat little pram but I hated it by the end of the first year, and wheels soon wore through from daily use and M&P charge £25 per WHEEL to replace.

Bought Bugaboo Bee second hand to replace it, loved it, now use as our spare. Second hand cost £200. Came with footmuff and raincover etc

Umbrella fold buggy from M&P - for holiday. Wanted something I wouldn't be gutted to lose. £135, footmuff was extra £30 I think.

Now have Bugaboo Donkey. £900, about to add extension kit to it for number 2 - another £155, and extra hood £50. All in £1100. Absolutely love this pram! Worth every penny. A bit heavy but does the job and is lovely to push.

The other thing I would point out is that the £££ prams really hold their value second hand if you look after them. When I come to sell the Donkey I hope to get about £800 back for it. I doubt I'll get £100 for the Urbo when we sell that shortly despite it being in decent nick

AnotherStitchInTime · 18/01/2014 17:33

First pram was a Cosatto travel system which set us back £400 but came with a 4 year parts and service guarantee.

Second pushchair, forward facing only, from birth with car seat only Britax B Agile £200. Came with a 2 year warranty.

Third Britax B Dual double buggy system £200 including cosytoes and soft carrycot from Ebay. Third and last child so not worth me spending loads on a double as I won't need it in a years time.

oadcb · 18/01/2014 17:35

Is it this one?
www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/hauck-winnie-the-pooh-travel-system
In which case I would say not great value. Resale will be £50 on that.
Car seat very basic and pushchair will be heavy and cumbersome
