Sorry if it's inappropriate Grin But DH is doing my head in!!!

This purchase is the one thing we can't reach a decision on!! I've seen a gorgeous set I like, starts off as a pram, transforms to pushchair when needed (front and rear facing as per choice) and also comes with separate car seat, rain covers and travel bag. It is £280 and DH says there is NO way we are spending that much money on a pram Hmm I actually thought it was pretty good value for all that is included (and it's gorgeous)!!

Is he being stingy or am I being delusional? Smile

Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the products mentioned on this thread aren't available any more. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing prams and pushchairs, from lightweight easy folding prams to all terrain buggies, we've seen them all. Here's our round up of the best baby pushchairs on the market right now.

Hope that helps! Flowers

Didn't add what it was sorry....Stokke xplory. Bought in sale from Kiddisave. Should have been 900.
Although that was a few years ago.

£830 for a bugaboo cam (everything inc changing bag & a drink holder I barely used!) & maxi cosi cabriofix ( for which I also spent another approx£50 on rain cover & cosy), so £880 for everything. Shock I then bought a bjcm for £175 6m later.

I used the maxicosi til ds was 1, bugaboo til ds was 2-2.5 interchanged with the bjcm til he was 3. Bjcm was def more useful but wouldn't have been without bugaboo in early days.

Bugaboo now washed and ready for dc2. Still looks good as new despite heavy use. Then will either sell or keep for a possible dc3 Grin

Your system sounds very cheap so if you like it go for it. I'd still recommend getting a baby jogger or Maclaren once your dc is older.

Either buy the cheap system new or get a good quality one second hand. I know 2 people who got second hand bugaboo cams and they were great.

It's personal choice as to which pram but I know certain makes don't last as well as others. E.g my friend's icandy and another's oyster look worse for wear now but quinnys seem to stand up well. I seem to remember a silver cross one being indestructible but fairly unatrractive.

Loads of advice on here to help you make your choice.

Show him the Bugaboo collection! I've got the Graco Sky (babies r us exclusive) it's forward and rear facing and the pushchair converts into a 'baby nest' which makes a carrycot redundant; that saves some money. We got the pushchair including cosytoes and raincover for £200 - this was with the instore offer and a voucher from the catalogue giving us another £20 off for a spend over £200. We also bought the car seat to turn into a travel system, that was £90 but I had another voucher so we paid £85. However the car seat wasn't a necessity looking back at it, we could've picked up any 0+ to leave in the car and saved some money that way. Especially since, as far as I'm aware, travel system car seats only go up to 13kg so they grow out of them relatively quickly.

I know exactly the trouble you're having though, DH couldn't complain with my choices after he saw the prices of everything else! You can always pitch the seperate car seat option and get a 1,2,3 car seat when DC is older, which might mollify him a little

Writerwannabe83 · 18/01/2014 17:40

Oadcb - no, it's not that one. My husband saw that on eBay too after I'd finished telling him about the one in the boutique and couldn't understand why I didn't just get the eBay one. Men!!

Graco mirage - lay flat pram, car seat, rain cover - £100 new. Only 5 months in but it seems fine.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 18/01/2014 17:46

£280 sounds like an absolute bargain for all of that to me!
For perspective, the pram I have (not yet as only 15 weeks) includes the carrycot, seat unit which faces both ways and rain cover. The RRP for that is £799! (Though I didn't pay anywhere near that)
Footmuff, changing bag & adapters to fix car seat to pram are all extra, costing £175 altogether.
The car seat and base alone are going to be £300 which will be the most expensive thing we buy for the baby, however this is one of the most important things to us.

If I was paying full RRP for all of these it would be almost £1300! Shock however we are lucky that we have either already managed to get the items we need at a ridiculously cheap price, or will get a discount on the items we still need due to friends and family.

However, DH and I both have various reasons for forking out £££££ on various baby items.

Mrsantithetic · 18/01/2014 17:47

I got a second hand ultima 8 in 1 job for 200 pounds car seat, carry cot, pushchair, changing bag. The carry cot had a stand so could be used as a crib through the day, the pushchair also doubled up as a high chair. I hated it. Grin
Sold it on for 200 about 6 months later and got a sola from m&p in the sale for 200 and love it.

I think it depends on what you need. I don't need a car seat but do a lot of walking so I didn't mind paying for one I liked. My friend on the other hand never walks anywhere so was happy to spend more on a decent car seat and buy a cheap stroller.

Mrsantithetic · 18/01/2014 17:48

Do look at second hand. I found a lot of people swap and change a lot. The ultima I bought would have set me back near 1k the lady who sold me it barely used it so it was as new.

Tea1Sugar · 18/01/2014 17:49

£800 for bugaboo chameleon with maxi cosi car seat

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 18/01/2014 17:51

£280 is a good price although does depend on the build quality. If it falls apart within a year it's not good value.

I paid quite a bit more than that on a mountain buggy urban and carrycot for dc4. I think it was about £600. But it's still as good as new now 4 years later and dd would still fit if I still had it. It's been passed on to a family member now.

oadcb · 18/01/2014 17:53

OK. Do you have link?

Those of you who are looking at car seat's. Look at next stage too. Google extended rear facing car seats. There's a few suitable from birth that's where I'd concentrate my budget on and borrow infant carrier if necessary

oadcb · 18/01/2014 18:00

Eg britax maxfix or hauck varioguard

NickyEds · 18/01/2014 18:22

280 is pretty cheap. You'll be using the buggy every day. We got a Quinny Buzz second hand from friends for about £200 and added a maxi cozi for about another £100. Maybe something like a tabletots sale would be the way to go- that way you can see it before you buy it. You could always sell him on the re-sale value of a top of the line buggy. Also sound out friends for second hand stuff- best way to get an expensive buggy for less.

nosleeptillbedtime · 18/01/2014 18:25

£50 second hand, with pushchair attachment too and rain cover and footmuff. Had to get new chassis after 6 months for £90 on eBay so £140 all in.

Ilovekittyelise · 18/01/2014 18:46

£500 for second hand icandy peach plus £150 for car seat plus i dont remember what else. i still think i madethe right choice and got a bargain.

Wuxiapian · 18/01/2014 18:53

My Quinny cost about £550 2 years ago, including car seat.

Have just spent the same again on an Oyster Max double buggy as I have a 12 month old and due DC3 in 6 weeks.

Your husband's being daft.

SweetPea86 · 18/01/2014 18:55

Mine was silver cross freeway 550 I think round about that price that was pram car seat and accersoires :)

MrsPear · 18/01/2014 18:56

£350 on pram system for first plus six months. I have gone through three pushchairs each cost between 70 and 100.

jumperooo · 18/01/2014 19:02

We had an Uppababy vista, bought new in 2012 by PIL for £650 inc a maxi cosi car seat. They cost more than that new now as they have become much more popular. We sold it after 15 months use a few weeks ago for £350, and the car seat to someone else for £30. DD has been walking since 10 months so decided to get something smaller. We have also had a second hand maclaren and a petite star zia in the last year to use on trips away, which were both sold on within a week as found them quite useless compared to the vista. We now have a Babyzen Yoyo, which is an expensive buggy New at £300 but I managed to get an ex demo for £155 and its brilliant. My friends have had cheaper prams from newborn and got rid of them fairly quickly, I guess spend as much as you can afford. If he wants your budget to be say £200 then I would try and find a really good brand secondhand, say a Baby Jogger City Mini, an Uppababy, etc. Well built pushchairs are essential, trust me!

neversleepagain · 18/01/2014 19:11

We spent £1000 on a iCandy and car seats (twins) and another £200 on a smaller lightweight pushchair for holidays etc.

jumperooo · 18/01/2014 19:14

We sold that vista locally on gumtree within a day, it was on eBay aswell and had 37 watchers with 5 days left on the listing. Check gumtree and facebook local selling sites, bargains are there to be had and a quality second hand pushchair will last if you have a good look at it in person first. My friend had a Sola and it fell apart within a year, she got a two year old baby jogger second hand and it was in great condition.

charliedrinks26 · 18/01/2014 19:31

We just bought m&p zoom it was on offer for £299 inc the car seat, carry cot and front and rear facing when it's a buggy and the rain cover, I thought this was an absolute bargain and I'm so pleased with it. I had my heart set on the cosatto yo! Giggle go lightly ( I'd seen this even before I was pregnant and fell in love!) which would have been about £480 for the same, I was put off by it appearing on watchdog for just collapsing whilst baby was in it!! Went with the m&p from a recommendation from a friend and honestly I'm really pleased I did :) hoping dd is ok in it when she arrives!
You def need to take him with you shopping! I'm lucky my husband understands that they are pricey but he didn't realise just how much they we're until we went looking :) xxxx

Thesimplethings · 18/01/2014 19:41

£950 approx Blush that was for my third travel system. It's a city select and included two seat units, frame, adapters for car seat, maxi cosi pebble, adapters for second seat and bassinet.

I've used it solidly for almost 2.5 years and it still looks good so well worth it. It's mainly a single pushchair now but it's good that we can pop extra seat on when dc1 gets tired/needs restraining.

Missmidden · 18/01/2014 20:36

I haven't read every post, but have you considered whether you really need one at all? We live in a village and I knew that any walks I did would not be pram suitable so just got a sling (which was quickly replaced with a Baby Bjorn) for walks from the house and when out with friends. And of course a car seat as otherwise every journey was by car.

When DD turned 6 mths we got a McClaren as she was getting a bit heavy for the carrier when out with friends, and a back carrier for more rural walks. My friends all thought I was mad I initially but it worked for us, and as most of them ditched their expensive travel systems after a few mths for McClarens or similar the odd one did admit we had maybe been sensible!

So total costs about £20 for Babasling and same again for Baby Bjorn (both e-bay), £100 ish for car seat and around £150 for McClaren (which was used til 3.6ish). DC 2 on the way and plan to do the same again.
