With my first one DH put his hands to his ears and grimaced and told me to stop squealing so I let him read the PG test stick for the other two. He got it wrong both times.

WideWebWitch · 04/03/2004 12:17

I did my test for ds in the loos at work. Ex dh phoned me 10 mins later to see if I wanted to go on a cigarette break with him (we worked together) and I told him outside, while London traffic whizzed past on the roundabout outside. He gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen and didn't really say anything. Didn't need to though, I knew he was pleased. I tested for dd last year at home and called dp straight away. Can't remember what he said but he was in the office and couldn't speak easily so called me back 2 minutes later from outside to do a huge whoop for joy on the phone. Bless.

Me:
OMIGOD.... I really am pregnant! (said to myself as I was alone in the flat, DH at work).
DH:

silence with shocked smile< He was at work when I told him.

Later on he expressed his delight that he wasn't a 'jaffa' as he put it! Chaaaaarming!

This time:
Me: I think I can see another line, but it can't be coz we haven't started trying yet! OMIGOD!

DH: Jeeeesus girl you must be mega-fertile.

He didn't say anything, he turned and walked out of the room.
I thought OMG!
Then he came back in armed with a bottle of champagne from the fridge and flung his arms round me and said 'Let's go for it babes'!

It was totally unplanned and the timing wasn't perfect so I was really pleased he was as chuffed as I was.

I said 'I don't think i'll be having that prawn curry now . .hang on . .let me just go and do another test'.

Him - 'I'm going to be sick'.

Nice!

Angeliz · 04/03/2004 12:39

my first words were, "I'm not man it's wrong!"

GillW · 04/03/2004 12:46

it was New Years Eve - and we had my parents staying with us at the time.... "do you think they'll notice if I don't drink tonight?"

musica · 04/03/2004 12:53

With ds I can't remember, it was v. early in the morning! But with dd, I called dh at work and he said 'What? But how?' Now bearing in mind we had been trying, this was a slightly strange response. Then he said 'it is mine isn't it?'

I would have been really annoyed, except I knew what he meant - he had got stranded on our holiday around about the appropriate time, so we thought it was impossible that month, him being across the sea...but dd proves not!

Northerner · 04/03/2004 12:58

My first words were 'Shit it's positive!' said with a huge smile on my face to my Best mate.

Dh came home from work at about midnight, it was a Saturday night and I told him I had something to tell him and he'd better sit down. His reaction? 'F**k' I'd only come off the pill for a month so he was a bit shocked! He also thought I was going to tell him that we'd won the lottery!

oliveoil · 04/03/2004 12:58

With dd we were travelling and were in a hostel in New Zealand. I went off to the loo, did the test and came back in crying so he didn't know if it was because I was pregnant or not! Then kissed my tummy, awwww.

With current pregnancy, I did a test in the morning and walked downstairs with it and he just looked at the line and said 'aren't they a load of bollocks though?'

So romantic

handlemecarefully · 04/03/2004 12:58

Dh - "What already???", he was looking forward to a few months of happy humping and practising

motherinferior · 04/03/2004 13:07

With dd1, the penny had slowly sunk in over the previous week as my period - usually clockwork - failed to arrive. We were on holiday so I couldn't face dealing with a test, but it seemed pretty obvious if totally unplanned; when he asked me outright if I thought I might be pregnant and I said yes, his reaction was 'oh shit: I'd better get a bigger car'. When I actually did the test he just asked if I was really sure and shouldn't I do another!

With dd2, totally planned, I tested the day I was due and when he came home said 'er...I think I might be pregnant...because I did a test today'. He was pretty chuffed, I think!

CountessDracula · 04/03/2004 13:14

Me - Oh Shit! (despite having been trying for 3 years)

Him - Eurgh have you weed on that? (when I put stick in his hand) then "Oh Shit!"

Sunshine123 · 04/03/2004 13:29

Despite it being planned it did happen very quickly. I was on my own when i did the test but i was so happy and phoned dh straight away who was like 'noooo, really, my god, f**k, wow what a stud!!!' and inbetween all that he'd sat down and lit a cigarette forgetting that he was in a no smoking office!!! It wasn't until that night that the whole permanence of it all sunk in and we had the 'oh my god how are we going to cope' and all the other normal worries.

fairydust · 04/03/2004 13:35

I came home early from work as i was feeling sick and had a funny feeling i was.

Sat in the flat smoking away while waiting for the test.

Checked test it was poss - phonned friend and asked if i could come round she sat on puter looking at next baby clothes i sat smoking then realised i was smoking got all upset that i'd already damaged our baby.

Told dh when he came home from work.

He said well i surpose we'll have to move somewere bigger perhaps somewere i can get broadband -

I stood there shocked and said "hello were having a baby" his reply god yeh isn't it brillant

Twinkie · 04/03/2004 13:56

Well just been out for a drink (cola) with DP he chuffed - strutting around like he the Daddy - which he is ha ha ha.

He said he was just a bit shocked this morning and maybe we should wait till Sunday when I am due AF to make sure - I swear I will stick the f'ing techno stick with the word pregnant on it right up his nose tonight!!

Anyway - he was pleased and now I am really happy - he did say that it is just really bad timing and that he thought it would be a good idea for me him and DD to spend a couple of years together and get our lives really nice and sorted - I said sorry honey but its there and its not going to disappear - he said no he knows that but he thought I just needed a bit of a rest after everything that had gone on over the last few years!! (Little does he know that I intend to do lots of resting whilst he runs around caring for me and obeying my every whim!!

sandyballs · 04/03/2004 14:15

Did a test on the loo at work on a Friday afternoon as we were all due to go out drinking for the evening and I hadn't felt well for a while, had an inkling I might be! Didn't want to go out boozing if I was preggers so ..... the first tiny drop of wee on the stick and it burst into a deep blue line which shocked me because I had been pregnant before (and miscarried) and the test took ages to show a faint blue line.

Rang DH and his first words were "That's impossible!". Bastard. I understood in a way though because we had only managed to get it together once that month, what with him being away and me being ill. After trying for four years and being a lot more active in the sack, to suddenly fall pregnant after one session was amazing.

Fast forward 16 weeks - first scan ...... twins.
Sooo shocked. Thrilled but very frightened.

Sorry, I'm rambling - been out for a pub lunch at work and the wine has hit me!

sandyballs · 04/03/2004 14:16

By the way, congratulations Twinkie.

Twinkie · 04/03/2004 14:16

Don't think the word twins should be used anymore !!! (I never thoguht of that!!)

Twinkie · 04/03/2004 14:17

Thanks Sandyballs - looking forward to less exotic hols and lots more going to Sandyballs ha ha!!
