I burst into tears when I found out! I had been trying for 2 years.

Blackduck · 04/03/2004 15:24

I prodded dp and said 'So what colour shall we paint the nursery?'. Can't actually remember his response (it was 3.00 in the morning!). He did check the next morning that I had said what he thought I'd said....
MILs response was even better, when dp told her we were having a baby she asked 'who with?' lol (have to admit dp and I had been together 16 years so they had kind of given up hope......)

popstar · 04/03/2004 15:30

I showed DH the little blue line and his reply was, 'How did that happen??' Well, darling, when a man and a lady love each other very much........

SpringChicken · 04/03/2004 15:56

I had an idea already - had been trying for 11 months.
Was fireworks night - had been to DB & SIL's for my nephews birthday party - had already agreed with everyone on mumsnet i would test that night so when we got home i ran upstairs to test. Hadn't told DP as ididn't want to get his hopes up for no reason once again.

Couldn't go to the toilet so sat there for ages - told DP i had a dodgy tummy so he was steering well clear finally managed to do it so turned test upside down so i couldn't see the lines then waiting for 3 minutes - 2 lines appeared and i burst into tears.
Ran downstairs with PG test tucked into back of jeans and DP was fast asleep on the couch. Woke him by being a blubbering wreck and flapping my pissy stick in his face.
He was thrilled and burst into tears the minute he realised what it meant - i did have to explain so it took a while

Twinkie · 04/03/2004 16:00

Oooohhhh pissy sticks and pissy pads where will it all end!!

SpringChicken · 04/03/2004 16:29

Talking of pissy sticks - i'm sure my pelvic floor has disintegrated over the past few days

Surely i shouldn't notice leakages this early?

SpringChicken · 04/03/2004 16:30

Meant pissy pads, not pissy sticks

tillymint · 04/03/2004 19:34

Oh Shit!!!

dd2 was only 5 months old!

eidsvold · 06/03/2004 09:51

first time - he did not believe me and I did the test again to prove it to him... 2nd time - he just laughed and smiled.....

marthamoo · 06/03/2004 09:56

Me: didn't say anything (was on my own, dh was at work). I just sat down on the bathroom floor and cried and laughed and was generally a bit hysterical.

Dh: "Nah...you're joking...you've drawn that on with biro...[looked at my face]..you haven't have you...oh bl**dy Hell...I'm going to be a Dad!"

emmatmg · 06/03/2004 10:37

With DS3.
I sent Dh a text to tell him so I thought he knew when he got home.

2 VERY positive PG test on the kitchen side for him to see when he got home from work.

DH in a very odd/silly/nervous/excited voice from kitchen " Are you pregnant?"

me from sofa in living room " No dear Jessie is!!"

Jessie is our dog

He was sooooooo pleased with him self as we'd only done the business once since trying. He's my one hit wonder!

womba1 · 06/03/2004 11:14

Me: oh shit....he was right!! (my dh told me as soon as we'd done the deed...he'd sown his seed!!)

Dh: bugger....i wanted to practice a bit more! ( i fell pregnant the very first time we made love without using contraception)

Oh and of course, he strutted around the house calling himself Supersperm!!

DH who was then very new boyfriend said "I didn't know I had it in me". Wasn't what I had expectd him to day at all.

highlander · 06/03/2004 16:21

DH had moved out to Vancouver and had been away from home for 2 weeks. The phone call went something like this:

me: I didn't think we had it in us. We're too old. I thought your sperm was slow.

DH: 'Crikey'. (Lots of silence). Then he said he needed to ring off and go for a walk.

I found out later that the walk consisted of him strutting around town thinking, 'I'm a bloody stud'.

Sad.............!

Angeliz · 06/03/2004 16:28

highlander!

AnnaK · 07/03/2004 12:21

Background: I was told I was unlikely to concieve naturally and had been given the forms to take to the hospital to have the appropriate blood tests done before decing the next course of action.

After ten days of period pain and little sleep, I thought I would take a test as I occasionally take sleeping tablets to help. My first thought at the bright blue line was 'Shit I can't take a sleeping tablet tonight' and the second was 'Shit I'm pregnant'.

His response 'I didn't realise we had been practising' and then 'Superstud'! (His ex got pregnant when she was on the pill so he suggested that anyone with fertility issues should come and see him!!)

Once the initial shock had worn off, I was desperately excited...

zebra · 07/03/2004 12:37

1st: For an hour I kept going back to stare at the pregnancy test to check the spots hadn't changed colour.
2nd: AAAAcck!! I knew it. How long before terrible morning sickness sets in?
3rd: Never did a test. Just noted AF hadn't appeared and waited to start being sick. Was afraid I'd go for the 1st scan only to find out I had imagined the entire thing, though.

kbaby · 07/03/2004 21:16

I did the test 4 days before my period was due as I was certain that we had had sex on the right day and couldnt wait any longer. DP was banging on the bathroom door as he wanted a wee before we went to the gym. I managed to quickly wee on the stick on shove it down the back of the toilet. After 1 hr in the gym I got back to find a positve test. I hid the test upstairs and for the next hour spent my time between running upstairs to check the lines and cooking dinner. The next day after 3 more tests I gave my DP a box with a pair of booties in and the preg test.

His response was 'im not opening it I know youve put a spider in it'
me ' I havent honest open it'
him 'no i'm not'
me ' oh for gods sake open it, I havent put anything in it'

Opens the box and see's the booties
Him 'oh they're nice, what are they for'
Me 'look what else is in there'
him 'a stick, whats it for'
me ' oh my god your slow, im bloody pregnant'
him ' oh'
He then went to the kitchen and said ' what are we having for dinner'

Eventually the shock wore off and we both sat there with big grins on our faces repeating the words ' oh my god' over and over

futurity · 07/03/2004 21:32

I was due on on the Saturday and by Monday still no AF so I bought a test in my lunch hour and did it in the works toilet (lovely!). Went back to my desk and had DH on MSN going "don't do the test until you come home" and me going "I won't!" (fibber!)

Got home before him and left in the hallway a book we had about becoming a father. I heard him come in and he went "what's that book doing here....pause...oh!"...then something like "you're pregnant then?! Told you!". Then lots of silly smiles etc

mummytojames · 07/03/2004 21:35

you had better be bl**dy lieing to me lol i wasnt aloud to get caught i had to plan oh well lol

kiwisbird · 07/03/2004 21:54

Oh yes honey, you're right, I am only faintly pregnant obviously

(we had only starting trying 14 days before the + test....)

collision · 07/03/2004 22:32

'Eh? Thought you said you couldnt have children!!' (I had PCOS and didnt know if I would conceive)

Tortington · 07/03/2004 23:04

"you are f*cking joking" after guessing quite eerily that i was expecting twins as i returned from 3 mth scan.

sweetkitty · 08/03/2004 15:57

me - I had my suspicions about 3 days after conceiving I was trying on bridesmaids dresses with my best friend and when everyone else was going on about losing weight I said what if I were to put on weight! My period was due on the Thursday and I didn't test until Monday lunchtime at work but I knew what the results would be. I was still shocked to see those 2 lines though. I put the test in the secret compartment in my bag and kept sneaking alook when no one was looking. I did another test that night and just handed it to DP.

DP - "holy f*" I think were his words and then when did it happen then?

We were trying for 9 months but we still couldn't believe it - and still don't! We had tried OPK's and doing it every night for 10 days over the fertile period and lo and behold this baby is the result of a quickie before I went away for the weekend!
