penguin sorry to hear you are at risk of redundancy. I work in HR so can try and answer questions you have xx

ChristineDaae · 05/12/2013 08:59

Firstly - CONGRATULATIONS Janie!! I'm sure baby Leo was worth the wait Grin
Pixie , it was mainly on what positions you should sit/stand/walk in to prevent it getting worse. Funny enough I have been having trouble with work for being late (I have to walk about a mile to work from dropping DD at nursery and I just can't do it as fast as I used to) and she told me if anything I should be taking it slower/taking breaks etc. also got 2 support belts to try which is good as one of them helped lots with walking yesterday.
she made a point about how work should actually give you extra time to get from the car park to your desk if your struggling, mine won't even give me 5 minutes for the mile walk...so I have made an appt this morning and am hoping to get signed off. At the minute I walk a mile, then am stuck at my desk all day, then do the mile backwards, it's just too much walking and too much sitting, could do with it being broken up a lot more and work aren't willing to be flexible. Iv only been signed off work once in almost 6 years (with the MC) so I'm not the type to take the mick but its all just a bit much.
Chocolate - hopefully mine will ease up then, I'm almost 33 weeks and so far it's just been getting steadily worse.

IBelieveInPink · 05/12/2013 09:29

Found you! phew! I thought the thread had been very quiet!!

GuffSmuggler · 05/12/2013 09:42

FANTASTIC NEWS Janie!!! Grin Well done you and welcome to the world little Leo xxx

Pentagon · 05/12/2013 09:56

oh Janie, massive congratulations!! So happy for you!! Another great weight (same as Elsie's Xmas Smile) and name! You sound besotted (as you should be!), I can't wait to hear more about your labour/birth and gorgeous baby boy. Enjoy your newborn cuddles!

penguin sorry to hear about your job - how stressful! I can't offer any advice as I don't know much on the subject but a couple of ladies here work in HR so they will probably be more helpful. Cyber hugs!

sapphire I meant to say yesterday - but didn't get the chance - that they don't listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks where I am either. My midwife tried to because she could see how anxious I was and apparently the doppler picked it up (as we could see the heartbeat rate changing) but I couldn't hear anything bar noise. I had listened to it very clearly with DD1 at the same stage so I was very anxious that something was wrong and didn't relax till my 20-week scan (where everything was fine). My placenta was anterior and high which probably made it very difficult to listen clearly, in any case it caused me more worry than reassurance so I understand why they are hesitant to do it - I'm sure your baby is OK Smile

nerdy if it's a drop and brown it's most probably nothing to worry about.

Pixielady83 · 05/12/2013 10:16

christine that's awful your work are being so harsh, I think getting signed off is definitely the best plan. I can't believe they're not giving you any leeway for a) being heavily pregnant b) being in pain especially when you've got such a good attendance record. Grr. I walk a mile to work either way after getting the train (now get taxis, or DH picks me up this end) and I'm so tired and sore by the time I get into the office it's awful isn't it. Hope your GP signs you off ok.

Pixielady83 · 05/12/2013 10:27

penguin you might find this link useful maternity action redundancy information sheet

WhatWillSantaBring · 05/12/2013 12:57

penguin firstly, don't worry about stress on little pingu - women manage to give birth sucessfully in warzones, so it will not affect him/her (and worrying that it will just makes things worse).

Secondly, although being put on redundancy notice is crap at any time, you are actually in a better position being on mat leave as you get the additional protection that they must give you first dibs on any new suitable jobs that come up in the same company (and you don't even have to go for interview). As my employment lawyer at work told me (when I was worrying about redundancy here) - its the only example of positive discrimination in the workplace! Although some companies are really really bad at following the law, you get a lot of others that are so paranoid about a sex discrimination claim, that they will be uber careful not to select someone on mat leave (because if they get it wrong for you it will cost them more than if they fuck it up with someone else!)

My spd has got better too, weirdly. Though work (well, a customer) is trying to make me go to London for a meeting next week. I did point out to my colleague that he risks becoming my birth partner if we go Grin, so he rapidly put his weight behind having the meeting closer to home!! [Also, he is male and very good looking, so I would be v Blush if he ended up having to support me swearing like a trooper and screaming like a banshee in labour.]

kjh5 · 05/12/2013 13:42

penguin I hope you aren't stressing too much about the redundancy, hopefully it all works out positively for you. Are there any contingency plans you can put into action in the meantime? I might find myself in the same situation as you - my boss told me last week there is likely to be 'restructuring' in our department early next year, so we should be ready to lose some staff. So reading the advice from santa and pixie was very reassuring!

christine your work sound truly horrendous for having no empathy for what you are going through! A friend of mine was also suffering dreadfully from SPD but found it eased off quite suddenly a few weeks before her bubba was due as he considerately changed position and relived a lot of the pressure on her pelvis. I hope you manage to get signed off and then relax xx

ChristineDaae · 05/12/2013 15:24

Hi all, penguin, make sure you read up all you can and know how to cover yourself should you be made redundant.
Thankfully my doc was lovely, told him what was going on at work, and that I felt really dramatic coz I only have 2 weeks till I start my 'pre mat leave' holidays. As soon as I said that he was like 2 weeks?! Well why don't we just sign you off for 2 weeks and be done with it?! No need in pushing yourself if they won't be flexible, you could have came weeks ago and I'd have happily signed you off then! Such a relief. The last thing I wanted was to go to disciplinary for being late right before I left

Honey786 · 05/12/2013 17:43
