Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, 1st to early 2nd trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a loooong time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

brod your story would have been better if she you had actually scratched her effing eyes out Wink. Next time she has a dig just say 'you'll understand when you grow up and have children of you're own'. Make sure you stroke her face and say 'you know how I like to tease you' as well Wink

Oh and brod don't feel sorry for me! I'm only moaning because I have bump envy! I'm too impatient!

funkymonk · 25/11/2013 19:35

Brod you should have floored her. Cheeky bitch!

Kitty I'm sure you will have a lovely bump soon enough!

Sorry, I'm going to talk about me me me again now! Had a mixed day. This morning got a 2-3 on the digital so was made up but this afternoon had a load of pink cm when I went to the loo. Not had any since but now have started with some period type cramps. Dr Google is a mixture of bad news and outcomes being ok. Rest assured I am incredibly worried and expecting the worst.

CatsCantFlyFast · 25/11/2013 19:44

Funky how many weeks are you now? Whilst we have all done it, try to remind yourself that testing is telling you nothing as the hormones in your system are delayed to both building up and decreasing.
I had pink CM and a bleed and everything was ok. I definitely had a lot of cramps. Try not to worry. Remember the majority of people who had cramps and pink CM will never have posted on the Internet so you are seeing a skewed reflection of the v v v small percentage of times where things end badly. Remind yourself of the crazy things happening in there at the moment, both in terms of the speed at which your womb is growing and the cells that are multiplying... It would be crazy for all of that to happen without a little bit of bleeding and discomfort x

funkymonk · 25/11/2013 20:08

Thanks merk. You're always a fountain of knowledge and a sense talker. I'm 5 weeks 3 days. 1 day further on than I got last time! Xxx

BlindKitty · 25/11/2013 20:10

funky LOADS of people on this thread have had pink or brown discharge, especially in the first few weeks. In fact merk had to give me the exact same talk! Yes, I also consulted dr google who was about as helpful as a chocolate teapot! The first day I lay still in bed for about 4 hours! You should speak to your midwife to put your mind at rest. Anyway, try not to worry but if you're like me and will worry anyway, I'd strongly recommend a 7 week scan. Only then did I relax.

funkymonk · 25/11/2013 20:31

Thanks kitty. I have a 7 weeks scan on 11th December. 2 weeks this weds. Aaaagghh this is such a stressful time! Xx

funkymonk · 25/11/2013 20:35

What stage did you have your spotting merk and kitty?

BlindKitty · 25/11/2013 20:51

funky about 5 weeks for about 10 days! I didn't listen to a word merk or the others said and I worried myself sick! Then it just stopped. Always thought that once I finally got pregnant I wouldn't have a care in the world but the first weeks are really stressful. I promise, once you see your little bean on the monitor you'll feel loads better!

CatsCantFlyFast · 25/11/2013 20:57

I had pink CM for quite a long time early on, I can't remember exactly when it stopped but I think I did relax when it went on for more than a week without any other symptoms. Then I had a proper bleed over 2 days just before 12 weeks. The bleed was attributed to a cyst, although the epu said there can be lots of reasons for an unexplained bleed. It does get easier I promise, especially once you can feel the baby like a frog leaping around all the time Grin
Hang in there, take it a day at a time. It seems soooo slooooow but time is passing and soon you will be at your first scan

funkymonk · 25/11/2013 21:39

Thanks lovely berries. You're smashing xx

Boomgoestheweasel · 25/11/2013 21:46

Hello all

Going to make the effort to come out of cranky hibernation. I've been finding the last couple of weeks very hard to adjust, suddenly doing long shifts and being on my feet all day has worn me out, and I feel under a lot of pressure not to screw up! Pregnancy-wise all is fine as far as I know, although now 19+1 and still haven't felt the babies move. Even though I know this is totally normal and probably due to anterior placentas, it's upsetting me quite a lot now - I just want that reassurance Sad

Anyway, other than that everything is good. We have a new babywagoncar, went for the CR-V, the old model with the picnic table! I'm in love with it a little bit Grin. Plus I now have three days off in a row and intend to be incredibly lazy, watch loads of crap telly and maybe go for a few nice dog yomps by way of exercise!

Funky sorry to hear you're having such a worrying time, Merk is totally right as usual in that 9 times out of 10 it's just a completely normal part of early pregnancy. Doesn't stop the worry though, I realise!

Brod your colleague sounds like a grade A idiot. Can you put laxatives in her coffee..? Grin

Merk sounds like you're having a rough ride, hope things get a bit easier and the MIL backs off. So far I think I've had it easy, but I bet I get massive haemorrhoids or something as karmic payback for saying that now...

Incidentally, in my trust we wouldn't measure at 24 weeks, I think we only start from 26wks onwards (actually can't remember exactly now). It used to be 4cm over or 3 under the expected measurement would require a growth scan, but they now use growth charts based on your BMI etc, so impossible to know where your bump would fall on it. Sorry, that's not helpful really..

Right, finished my essay. Big waves to all berries I've missed out, sorry! Bedtime after a looooong shift. Night night berries one and all x

CatsCantFlyFast · 25/11/2013 22:10

Hey boom good to hear from you. I'm not surprised work is taking it out of you, I'm knackered with work and I'm not having twins or doing shifts and I sit down all day! No doubt you will feel babies moving v v soon, my lady won't let me lie on a certain side and wakes me up every time I do so perhaps enjoy your last few days of peace!
Am v jealous of the CRV, I always wanted one!
My bigger question is HOW do they measure? I don't get what they measure without a scan!
Tally meant to say earlier, did I guess on your gender? Wouldn't want you finding out without me having had an official guess

CatsCantFlyFast · 25/11/2013 22:11

And Funky have a moan on here as much as you need to, don't hold it in. We've all done it me more than most and I swear it helps just up get it out and hear some reassurance

Boomgoestheweasel · 26/11/2013 07:22

Ooh I see merk, well in that case the very technical answer is...(drumroll) they use a tape measure! We feel for your symphysis pubis ie public bone, and the top of your uterus (fundus). The distance between the two is your fundal height. It's not a particularly reliable method it has to be said, and different midwives will measure differently so you can take it with a pinch of salt really! If it flags up a discrepancy between expected size and actual bump, you get referred for a growth scan, which is more reliable although can still be pretty inaccurate. Does that help?

Boomgoestheweasel · 26/11/2013 07:23

*pubic bone, not public! D'oh!

Tallyra · 26/11/2013 07:35

hiya boom!

merk, I think you had a half hearted guess at a bad scan, but they are all up on fb if you'd like to have a go!

Hi everyone! I know a couple of you already (hi quod, merk) but I'm over on the grads thread because I started off there - wanted to say hello to the preggers berries on here too though as it's my due date this week and I'm feeling excited about the birth coming up! quod are you next in line on here too?

Angelina77 · 26/11/2013 10:12

Morning all, feeling very fed up at the moment. So jealous of all the 2nd tri people in this thread, still more than 2 weeks until my nuchal scan and I'm into my 3rd week of being curled up on the sofa all day wishing I didn't feel so ill.

Woe is me :(

CatsCantFlyFast · 26/11/2013 10:53

Alex I've got my eyes peeled for any activity at your end, so exciting. Are you in the 'desperate to have him/her out' camp or not? Do you know the gender?
Angel, poor you, getting to 12 weeks does seem to take a lifetime. The sickness is crap, most of my days were spent wondering how I could carry on, despite in the scheme of things my sickness not being bad. Tally may have some tips, but do try and control it with food and perhaps the wristbands? I also think a high dose of certain vitamin is supposed to help. Are you working? I found sleeping helped the most so try to do a lot of that. And remember that very soon you should start feeling better, 12 weeks is when the placenta starts to take over and the hormones level off a bit x

Angelina77 · 26/11/2013 11:20

Thanks merk, I'm annoying myself for being such a grump when I'm really over the moon to be pregnant.

I'm off work atm, I've got a sick note until next Thursday when I'll be 11 wks. Sleep definitely makes a difference, I regularly wake up several times a night and the next day every symptom is much worse. Just recovering from another 24hr headache despite drinking 6 pints of water a day.

Tallyra · 26/11/2013 12:39

well done on the drinking angel, it's so hard but it really makes a difference. the nausea is just horrible, whether you are throwing up or not.merk is right, vit b6 is supposed to help, and if you can get a doctor to prescribe something like cyclizine it might help. that's if your doctor is sympathetic.

Welcome back boom glad to hear you've finally got some time to relax.

merk we never heard about your waxing adventure - I presume all went well?

Sorry to hear about the puking and angst: angel all things will pass, for the time being wallow and moan and rest as much as possible. That's what I did / am doing.

Re: yesterdays moan, the silly office cow has had two children (in fact I used to help her - ie give her! - with her IVF injections at work!) so you'd think she'd know better. Ho hum. Im not there much longer anyway - moving to the north after Xmas!

Alexandra6 · 26/11/2013 12:54

Don't know the gender merk - and can't wait to find out! After my first trimester roughness (it really does get better angel!), I've been fine and luckily not had any nasty full term symptoms apart from one scary bleed a two weeks ago). So not desperate for the baby to be out (and am loving mat leave!) but at the same time, I've heard going overdue and being induced can lead to a trickier labour so for that reason (and pure excitement) I'd like things to kick off quite soon.

Angelina77 · 26/11/2013 18:25

Thanks everyone, I'm going for a scan tomorrow so that's perked me up a bit :)

So excited for you alex, hope everything goes the way you want it to.

CatsCantFlyFast · 26/11/2013 18:53

Good luck Angel. What time? Keep us posted
