Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, 1st to early 2nd trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a loooong time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

kat Step away from the scales! you're pregnant, your body is going to change. Apart from my DSIL who at 7 months can still fit in her jeans and has put on bugger all weight (although one of my colleagues was like that, she only found out she was pg 7 months gone, and then ballooned out bigger than when she had twins). It might not be blubber anyway it more probably is fluid or extra blood or other stuff the baby needs.

Boomgoestheweasel · 05/11/2013 09:36

kat you probably just need a poo! Now stop weighing yourself! Xxx

Foodylicious · 05/11/2013 10:48

Kat I have put on 5lbs in the last 4 weeks! Really need to go shopping, I have 2 pairs of trousers that fit and one pair of really soft jeans. I reluctantly dug out my 'fat' jeans yesterday and THEY DON'T FIT! AHHH.
I know some of its water and bloating but my thighs and arse are huge too!
boom will get some malt loaf, I tried crackers, not a massive fan, but croissants and scotch pancakes are great. Finally got back to sleep about 5.30 and slept till 10. headachey this morning so trying to drink but its not easy.

Angelina77 · 05/11/2013 10:52

I had my midwife booking in appointment yesterday and I had to choose either a dating scan or a nuchal screening scan. I'd read the leaflets but I assumed you would get both - apparently not. So I opted for nuchal - has anyone else done this? Does it matter? Also I was suprised I didn't get a pack of info or a folder, no mobile number for the midwife and not seeing her again until 16 weeks.

Tallyra · 05/11/2013 11:04

that seems very odd angel. at least a phone number would be good! I wasn't given the option of 2 types of scan, just the nuchal one but the midwife didn't even give me a form for a maternity exemption card, ehich, considering I was and still am on multiple drugs I thought was very bad. we must have spent at least 50quid on drugs and now I can't find the receipts to claim them back!

Anyway, I have just got back from walking the dog. my first full length walk on my own. it usually takes an hour, it took me 2 and now I'm sitting at the front door with no energy to take off my wellies.

Angelina did you fill in lots of forms?? at my appt we filled them in together and the i keep the folder and take it to all appts ect. mine has all the blood forms in etc. She sent of the scan request form.
boom might know if this is sometimes different, but I am pretty sure this is standard.
Re the scan - I think its so they allow enough time for the scan and a more experienced/qualified scanner for the nuchal?
I would ring your surgery and ask, the receptionists always seem to know whats going on, maybe leave a message for the midwife to give you a call.
I don't think I have a mob no for the midwife, would have to go through my surgery.

Angelina77 · 05/11/2013 11:13

I was expecting to take away a folder full of all that stuff but no, I was just given the scan form which I haev to take tto the appointment. The NHS leaflet says you should get the midwife's mobile number but she didn't offer it and I forgot to ask.

The leafelt also says you shouldn't swim or do yoga until 15 weeks which she said was rubbish. I thought it was odd but now there's doubt in my mind I don't want to risk it. I reall want to swim too, I'm sick of doing no exercise.

Foodylicious · 05/11/2013 11:23

This is what should have happened, scroll down and it even says you should have been given the folder.

Give them a ring!

Foodylicious · 05/11/2013 11:25

This is also a good bit on exercise

Angelina77 · 05/11/2013 11:48

Thanks. Weird how the NHS website doesn't say anything about swimming and yoga being avoided.

I've got to go and pick up a prescription tomorrow so I'll ask about it then.

Foodylicious · 05/11/2013 12:00

boom what's happening with work? did they sort your references? do you have a start date?

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/11/2013 12:35

I was told no swimming, yoga or new exercise til 14 weeks. Most pregnancy yoga classes won't take you until after them anyway
Some people don't get their notes until their scan... Somebody else on here was like that whereas I got mine at booking

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/11/2013 12:36

You should definitely get a scan that both dates you and does nuchal, mine were both done in 1 12 week scan

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 12:43

Same here, my scan was a dating + nuchal. You should deffers get all your bumf as well - mine was given to me at a brief pre-booking in appointment, then we filled in all the paperwork together at the full hour-long booking-in appointment which was at 10 weeks.

Thundercatsarego · 05/11/2013 12:46

I had nuchal and dating too! I'm sure you'll get both if you opted for nuchal. Strange not to give you contact details though..? I reckon it might be worth a phonecall just for clarification of everything, it will put your mind at ease I'm sure x

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 13:14

Oooer, my DH is up North at the moment trying to get a job. We'd like to move to Yorkshire this side of Xmas. Very nervous - he's gone for a few but no cigar as yet!
If he doesn't get it we might have to stay down south until after the baby has landed Sad

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 13:14

Sorry to blunder in with a ME post, but I reeeally hope he gets it!

Thundercatsarego · 05/11/2013 13:24

Good luck mr brod! Are you from Yorkshire originally?

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 13:29

He is, I'm from the midlands. If we move up there a) we may one fine day own a house and b) my mum would be able to move up (she was caring for my Nan who passed away in Feb and has nothing to stay in the midlands for - her words, not mine). We live on the south coast at the mo and it's so far from family and so expensive.

Thundercatsarego · 05/11/2013 13:57

Well it sounds like it could work put perfectly! Fingers and toes crossed- let us know when you hear... What about work for you?

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 14:22

Will hopefully hear tomorrow so will let you know.

I have been accepted onto a local university's temp pool (yeears of being a university admin person means I have loads of handy experience) but I also have to finish writing up my thesis (part time PhD student also) - no way I'll be finished, but I want at least to have a complete draft. So I may be stuck indoors finishing that, and taking time for the occasional bit of temp work. Then in May - baby-dom! (all being well)

It will be weird being all the way the others side of the country, I've been down here for over ten years now so I'm worried about making new friends. I expect I'll be kept busy though!

Tallyra · 05/11/2013 14:25

don't half the berries live in Yorkshire?

OP posts:
Angelina77 · 05/11/2013 15:02

Thanks all, I'll stay away from the pool for now and chase up the info with the midwife. I've got my reassurance scan on Thursday (counting the seconds) so I'll probably try and get hold of her to let her know how it went.

brodicea fingers crossed for you & your husband, Yorkshire is the BEST place to live :)

Boomgoestheweasel · 05/11/2013 15:46

Brod I'm in Yorkshire, come up and keep me company! Fingers crossed for Mr Brod Grin

Angelina everything all the other berries have said is right, your nuchal scan will include a dating scan. Your midwife sounds crap though. In some places (including here) you don't get your notes at the first appointment, but you should really get them before 16 weeks! I would phone the surgery and ask for the midwife's number, or failing that ask her to ring you. She should have given you that and the number of the EPU as a minimum.

Tally I've just realised I still don't think anyone's sent off a mat exemption form for me! Keep meaning to have a grumble about it and then forgetting at appointments Grin. Luckily haven't had to get anything so far except super-strength folic acid..
