Things you 'mustn't' do when pregnant.

So this is born from my sil insisting that she will ride her very scatty dressage mare when she's pregnant. Each to their own but I've been told by more than a few ob-gyns and midwives that it's not safe due to the risk of falling and above 12 weeks - placental abruption.

For me, I stopped skiing the minute I found out (gutting, I was in the middle of a month's bloody ski holiday!). I'm 36 and have been trying to conceive for so long, maybe if I was younger I'd have been less paranoid.

What have you ladies given up or not given up?

Cigarettes, red bull, coffee, cheese fondue and camembert... Not a huge list, but they basically were the centre of my consumable world before

Wearing a bikini.. Apart from that nothing dont smoke or drink anyway

Wine.... I miss wine.

Wine, beer, gin, pimms etc!
The thing I miss most are eggs - softly poached runny eggs with muffins..... Yum!
I think this was worse than alcohol as I wasn't expecting it and rationally I have had runny innoculaised red lion eggs for years and never caught salmonella!
Still just like you said it's the paranoia - what if....?

I gave up the fags and the booze and developed a kit kat habit instead.

Nothing terms of activity. I still go to the gym (including spinning and boot camp - which is intense) and train just as hard. Alcohol and restricted foods are the only things i ace up really.

Am I am 37 and 26+6 weeks pregnant.

I skied at 12weeks happily. Felt the embryo was protected enough inside my pelvis at that point. I stuck to easy runs and skied very carefully and avoided high traffic areas of piste.

I cycled throughout pregnancy but chose safer (mainly traffic-free) and less strenuous routes.

Blue cheese, brie, pate, cold prawns etc.
Didn't drink anyway.
Drink decaff tea and have my morning 2 shot latte with one caffeinated nespresso pod and one decaff pod.
Hot baths.
Still cycling but will soon be only using my electric assist cargo bike as it is a trike so more stable.

I've stopped going to kickboxing classes. Even with the pads, we do take some pretty hard kicks and knees to the tummy.

Plus I can't be bothered to get off the sofa

Cycling, intense exercise, hot baths :(
Also: Harsh chemical cleaners and antiperspirants with aluminium.

Charing - runny eggs are fine as long as they're lion stamped!

I've been really careful. None of the banned cheeses, max one glass of wine per week (nothing until 15-16 weeks), no rare meat (oh how I miss blue steak!), no pate, minimal caffeine, and I always check that mayo and coleslaw in cafés and restaurants is pasteurised.

I had a scare at around 30 weeks when I was screened for toxo, and I was glad I could confidently say I hadn't increased my risk through what is eaten. The stakes are so high!

Only two more weeks to go!

(Also, this isn't meant to sound preachy or judgy - I hope we can all make our own informed choices)

Sledging. 2 winters without it. No plans to ever be pregnant again though. Hurrah!

I've given up booze and avoid most of the foods on the restricted list.

Still have a cup of normal tea every morning and the odd cup of coffee.

And I've had rare steak and runny eggs on occasion.

Pate and steak and lovely cheeses [cries]

I know I can still have steak but it just doesn't seem worth it if I can't have it rare

I think as soon as this little one is born I'll send DH to the cheese shop and the lovely deli in town to bring me lots of goodies that I can gorge on!

i am 11 weeks and still have a morning cup of coffee

just a small cup of instant, i NEED it to give me a kickstart

is that really awful of me was the same with the other dcs and they have turned out ok

i don't really eat anything else you are not meant to eat, and not missing wine (yet, lol) as the thought makes me gag

Skied at 20 weeks and 8 weeks. Doctor was fine with it, but I barely showed at 20 weeks with DD1. Could barely fit into the same ski trousers with DD2 at 8 weeks
Gave up spirits, had occasional small glass of wine.
Gave up the very stinky cheeses but did have sushi from a v good restaurant
Didn't touch oysters or pate through two pregs
Didn't give up runny eggs, brie, smoked salmon (but was very careful about shop bought sandwiches generally)
Gave up the gym. Not such a good plan as it turns out.
One decent coffee a day in the morning with DD1
Only decaff with DD2 who is much a calmer child...
Fake tan - developed an allergy to it with DD1. Odd.
Perfume - it seemed to go off as soon as I sprayed it on. Smelled rank! Weird

First pregnancy I think I quit the wine but had the occasional beer as I was craving it. I don't recall giving anything else up though, still had my steak medium, ate my eggs runny.

This pregnancy I've not really given anything up. I live on a small island where everything is shipped in from the US - any cheese is totally pasteurised beyond recognition anyway, the steaks are good quality and the sashimi is frozen and flown in anyway.

Had a glass of wine every few days until recently and coffee most days when I fancy it.

I don't think I was particularly paranoid with the first one but with this one I pretty much forget I'm pregnant most days, and could probably do with being far more cautious!

I gave up riding at about 20 weeks as it was just getting uncomfortable. Would have carried on for longer if I could have (much to my mil's dismay)

Running, my sacroiliac joint goes the instant I'm pregnant (that's when I know to test:)).

I wouldn't have stopped a ski holiday if I found out I was pregnant, assuming I was only 4-5 weeks along when I found out (not five months!). I wouldn't ski later on though.

I have given up very little bar wine. Bikini had been done for by DC1.

I am longing for my love of coffee to return. Currently even the smell makes me feel awful. This makes me very sad . Hopefully after a couple more weeks I'll be ok and can go back to a couple of blissful mugs each morning.

Pate. And trampolining. We have a huge trampoline in the garden so I've missed going on it with my DS. But it can cause placental abruption apparently.
Apart from that not given up too many things, although I've completely gone off coffee so have sort of involuntarily given that up as the smell makes me heave.
Stuck to one drink per weekend, max 2 for special occasions. Not really missed booze after the first two weeks. Apart from cocktails.

I am bad. I still eat pate as long as it isn't liver. I have yet to be convinced that avoiding pate is a material way to reduce your listeria risk.

I don't think it's too much to do with age; I'm 19 and I've given up drinking (I wasn't an alcoholic but I'm a student who enjoys a jagerbomb or six), football and I won't be going ice skating this year

Last pregnancy I gave up smoking and followed the rules to the t and only had one glass of wine when I was on holiday! This time I was really pleased to find out I can eat Stilton and cured meat. I'm not going to worry about a runny egg either if its lion stamped.

Cheese fondue should be ok as the cheese is cooked through I think.
