Hello again - another shiny new thread for the batsh*t crazy women going through the stress and emotional rollercoaster that is being pregnant after a miscarriage.

Fingers crossed for lots of happy scans and boring pregnancies.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 10:43

Oh dear, I was in B&Q this morning choosing paint for DS bedroom so we can do it up and move him before baby and I came over all funny and nearly fainted. A very kind worker sat me down and made sure I was ok.

I now have to go to the Dr to get my blood pressure checked, but I'm thinking surely it's more likely to be iron deficiency or something?

I've been a bit lax on taking my vitamins as they give me such bad constipation, urgh the joys of pregnancy!!!

WhatWillSantaBring · 11/10/2013 11:23

me and penguinita - I'm sure that somewhere on the fount of all knowledge that is mumsnet the internet, you will be able to find the name of an antibiotic that you cannot drink on at all and which can be prescribed for a plausible, non-visible infection (like a UTI). That way you can outsmart your GP/medic friends by saying "oh, I'd love a drink but I'm on floximoxinihilpilicillin" and say no more.

(I know you're not supposed to drink on any ABs but only because it reduces the efficacy, but there are some that you definitely cannot drink on at all because they're processed by the liver?) Don't we have a medic on the thread who can give us a handy excuse?

guff - I'm really naughty and don't take any supplements after the first 12 weeks, because they give me massive headaches/make me sick etc. I try vaguely really hard to keep my diet super healthy and am hoping to avoid low iron. But if I am on a high dose of dried apricots to relieve the constipation, though overdosed in the past three days so it was a bit smelly in the office today Blush

Aha - fresh off the NHS website:

"Alcohol should be avoided completely when taking: metronidazole – an antibiotic sometimes used to clear dental, or vaginal, infections, or to clear infected leg ulcers, or pressure sores" (Brand name sometime "Flagyl" but obviously that might not be the NHS prescribed one, and a GP would know this, so

I think that's why I've used "women's problems" or "wisdom teeth" as an excuse before.

Tomkat79 · 11/10/2013 11:32

Ukg god yeah don't ever drink on metronidazole! Dental abscess it is ;-)

Pentagon · 11/10/2013 12:00

I would second getting a drink that looks like alcohol (apple juice pretending it's cider or coke in a glass and pretend it's rum & coke) or even better actually order a glass of wine and pretend you're drinking - everyone will be too busy chatting away and after a while too tipsy to notice your glass. To be honest, I avoided social gatherings in the first trimester, I felt too ill, tired and stressed to be sociable.

saggy sorry you had such a crap day at work yesterday - it was really windy here too - I hope you're feeling OK. Same to you guff, scary! It probably is due to low iron or low blood pressure.

kjh thinking of you! x

kjh5 · 11/10/2013 12:07

Hello everyone! Story for radio silence - decided to stay away from the internet yesterday to stop myself panicking about the scan... But everything went fine! We have one very wriggly bubba in there measuring bang on 12+4.

My sonographer was a bit offish but then I couldn't say a word when we got in there because I was scared if start sobbing so I just sat there in silence until she turned up the sound so we could hear the heartbeat. She seemed a bit taken aback when I started crying but assured me everything looks good Grin.

Can't thank you all enough for your support. You are all wonderful women.

Tea I'm thrilled your scan went well! Haven't had time to read through the thread yet so sorry if it missed out on any other good scan news - will catch up once I've calmed down my over-excited mother. I need her to keep this under wraps until DH tells his Mum tomorrow! Xxxx

Pentagon · 11/10/2013 12:10

yay khj wonderful news! Congratulations! So happy for you Grin

TeaAndANatter · 11/10/2013 12:20

Great news kjh!

Bumblebzz · 11/10/2013 12:34

Hello, hope I can join you and stick around.
Just got a BFP y-day (period was 1 day late and I was about to go out drinking with an old friend so I randomly though I should check). I was so shocked I then really needed a drink ;-)

History is I have 1 dd aged almost 5, TTC for 3 years then finally got pregnant last November only to have a mc in Jan at 11 weeks.

It's very early days but it'd be great to be able to chat here as I won't tell people in RL for many weeks to come (esp after experience earlier this year where everyone knew and we had to un-tell them).

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 11/10/2013 13:18

Hi bumble, make yourself comfortable, were all bat shit crazy in here.

Hi all, I'm still lurking, but struggling to post a bit. Congrats on all the great scans x

MeDoingMyThing · 11/10/2013 13:20

Congrats bumble - very excited for you and think we are all here for the same reason so big welcome!

kjh - that's fab news! I never can understand why sonographers find it odd that people are emotional. Regardless of whether you've had a mc or not people are generally a bit emotional when they hear and see their baby for the first time! I guess it becomes very boring and normal for them.

guff - sounds very scary, if it is low iron can you take industrial amounts of prune juice to counteract the constipation? My dad had to drink huge amounts after his heart op as the side effect of drugs was constipation. It worked is all I will say.

santa - you are hilarious and I think I love you. I will use that drug as an excuse and point south. Let's see how many questions people ask after that!!

Pentagon - I would order a glass of wine but I don't trust myself not to drink it. I don't really feel pregnant yet. Sickness not set in, just feel a little tired. I so wish I was one of those women who doesn't fancy alcohol when pregnant!

I am being a lazy lazy mother this afternoon and am sitting on the sofa watching a Thomas DVD with my 2 year old. Poor kid would rather play trains but I figure I need a rest. Tomorrow it's my eldest sons 5th birthday and we have a party with 40 kids descending. Must be mad!

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 13:28

Yay KJH!! Fantastic news Grin You can relax for a few days now until you start freaking out about the next thing Wink

Had my blood pressure checked and that's all ok. Midwife suggested I phone the EPU to see if they want to do blood tests. I hate phoning that place brings all the bad memories back but I'll give them a call.

Welcome bumble congrats on your BFP. The mantra here is 'today I am pregnant'!

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 13:29

PS thanks for the prune juice tip me I think I better order a truck load Confused

Had my very second experience of being asked 'was it planned?'. First time was my line manager whilst I was telling her I'd miscarried (WTVF?)

Second time was by the most utterest stranger who heard me telling someone else. Wow. My eyes are opened to the utter crassness of random people. Sigh.

Tomkat79 · 11/10/2013 17:54

Quick hit n run...so pleased kjh and welcome bumble xx

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 18:11

tea that is so bloody rude isn't it!!

Someone asked me that before I had the MC and I was so shocked I didn't know what to say and just muttered 'yes of course'. What do they expect yo to day 'no it wasn't I'm gutted to be pregnant!?'

If asked again I think I'd just say 'that's a very rude question enquiring about the details of our sex life' or 'yes very much planned after having an MC we shagged like rabbits'!

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 18:15

PS I can't BELIEVE someone asked that about your MC!! Angry

GardenWorm · 11/10/2013 19:39

Hi all! Welcome newbies and great to hear positive scan news. Yay!
Can't remember who was saying about drinking but you could say you are having a detox before the crimbo alcohol season starts.
Someone asked me if mine was planned. Silly bitch. Don't particularly like her anyway, possibly one of the laziest workers I've met. I also know that she said it because she's trying to make everyone think that hers wasn't planned which is BS. Luckily for her she said it over the phone and not in person...
Apparently I was having Braxtons to when I was on the monitor the other day but couldn't feel a thing. I think they vary from person to person.
Have those due Nov got bags packed? I've done bugger all. Ooops! Grin

Ooh and good to hear the pussy cat has returned!

WhatWillSantaBring · 11/10/2013 19:47

Oh, god it drives me nuts- as this one is due pretty much exactly on DD's birthday I get so many "oh, is that planned" or worse "oh, so what happens in the Santa household at Easter" ... Garghhhh! Smile and nod, smile and nod.

Yay kjh :-D

Penguinita · 11/10/2013 20:44

Metradinazole - top tip santa! Thank you so much! I had my wisdom teeth out not long ago so a dental infection will be the perfect justification for staying sober.

I had my booking appointment today, it went well and I have my 12 week scan date, 18th November. Hooray, I didn't even make it to the booking appt stage last time so it feels like a major achievement!

Hi emki, congrats on making it to 7 weeks! I'll be joining you there tomorrow. I'm doing alright thanks, pretty similar symptoms to you although they come and go, which makes me nervous. You are so right about the time going slow, I can't believe we have only known we were pregnant for three weeks!

Great news on the scan kjh, and hi bumble and welcome.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/10/2013 21:08

I hate the "was it planned/are you mad?!" comments, aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhh!

The worst ones though are the people who commiserate that we're having a Christmas baby!! I just say "oh, they come when they come," when I'm thinking, "we'd have had a baby in august or October if I hadn't lost two!!" bloody people.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/10/2013 21:09

Great scan news kjh, and welcome bumble!

Bakingtins · 11/10/2013 22:33

Can't you use "Stoptober" as an excuse for not drinking? I know it's mainly for smokers but I know a few people doing a dry month maybe they are all pregnant really

SaggyIsHavingAPinkKitten · 11/10/2013 23:28

I het annoyed by "another kid? why? You've got one of each, you wont get something different you know!" Hmm
It makes me want to say DFONTAD! Confused
