Welcome ladies, new and old. Grin May we all have dull and boring pregnancies. Pull up a chair, crack open a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine and settle in for mutual handholding, fishslapping and neurosis.

Hi kjh so sorry this has happened, try not to panic, is could be nothing.

I'm not sure what to advise, calling NHS direct sounds like a good start.

I started bleeding on a Friday night last time, eventually went to A&E but like another posted said they sat me there for 5 hours to be eventually told there are no scan technicians at the weekend and they couldn't do anything until the following week, I wish I hadn't bothered. I think your best bet is to phone the EPU first thing Monday (or near me they have a drop in EPU week day mornings).

I understand how awful this must be and why do these things always seem to happen at weekends when the blimmin NHS shuts down for PG women Angry

kjh5 · 15/09/2013 10:18

Thanks for the support everyone. I called my aunt who is a midwife and she said to get some sleep and see how things were today. Pointed out that if I am MCing there's nothing I can do about it. If its something else then rest would be better than the stress of rushing around to various A+E's trying to get seen by someone. The bleeding seemed to stop after an hour and I haven't had anything since ( although I started cramping this morning so I'm expecting it to start again).

I'm not sure what to do - we're due to go home this afternoon and my hospital is a 10 min drive away from me but I know they won't be able to do anything until the EPU opens tomorrow morning. Unfortunately I am supposed to be going to a baby shower lunch between now and going home - it was arranged today just so I could make it - it's not for me obvs, a friend is due in a week. But the girls all know I'm pg and I don't want to put a downer on the day. By the same token if I don't go they'll want to know what's wrong...

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 15/09/2013 10:58

kjh i'm so soory you;re going through this worry. got everything crossed for you xx

Tomkat79 · 15/09/2013 11:30

What an absolute fucker. I went to EPU via a&e on a Sunday before and was fast tracked there. They had scanners on gynae ward and was seen by the on-call dr.
It's the uncertainty that drives you insane.

If I were you I'd make my excuses and not go. If it was me The last thing you need right now is a baby shower! Xx

LuckySocks13 · 15/09/2013 12:01

Kj- how are things? Try not to panic. I have had about 6 bright red bleeds at various times this pregnancy. It's flipping scary but I'm still pregnant and now 30 weeks. Hope you get some answers soon.

Whoever asked about movements - with DS (first baby) I felt no movements until 24 weeks and this time I felt first movements at 20 weeks so both a lot later than some. I did buy a Doppler bit only picked up the heart beat from 17 weeks I think. Hope that helps a little!

Hi to everyone else

kjh I hope you're OK hun! I hope there's no more cramping and bleeding today. Don't go to the baby shower if you don't feel like it... you'll be in a louzy mood if you go, won't you? (I know I would be); but either way, I would suggest telling them the truth - they know you're pregnant so they'll understand how upset and worried you are.

fod glad the bloods came back OK!

lievs I think it's perfectly normal not to feel the baby till 20-22 weeks with the first pregnancy. What you can try doing is lie down, stay still with your hands on your bump and see if you feel some flutters (that worked for me before I started getting discernible movements)

So DH and I dtd on Friday night (after a long time!) and he put pressure on my bump for a few seconds which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I told him to move which he did but I felt like I had indigestion for 10-15min afterwards. I got so paranoid that we had harmed the baby - I felt movements shortly after and loads yesterday so I'm hoping everything is OK and it was just my stomach that got squashed. I can't help worrying about restricting blood flow to the baby and causing some damage (I was on my back but propped up on pillows), I googled like mad yesterday...I'm a bit calmer today but still think/worry about it from time to time...arrrghhh, there's always something to worry about!

Hi kjh, thinking of you x

sazzababs · 15/09/2013 15:12

Hello everyone
I'm a noob to this thread, but I've been on various buses, threads and groups for almost 20 months now :D

I just tested positive on Wednesday for my 5th pregnancy in 15 months... REALLY hoping that this one will stick but if I'm honest, I'm completely shitting myself :/ Last miscarriage was in July at 6 weeks and can't believe I've managed to conceive again so soon!

I've been advised to do the whole baby Aspirin thing and I'm going to GPs to report the positive tomorrow. Im wondering whether to bring up the issue of progesterone supplements as although there's evidence for and against, feel it might be worth a try... We have our referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic in November, but I'm not going to cancel it just in case this goes Pete Tong... Urgh, having ishoos really puts a dampener on all things baby-related :/

I'll have a read back, but just wanted to say hi :)

kjh5 · 15/09/2013 15:41

Thanks everyone - I'm just on my way home post baby shower (which was more of a chilled lunch out) ended up easier being distracted for a few hours. And the girls were predictably lovely. DH phoned the a&e's near us but they all said they didn't have the facilities to check me out on a Sunday and I'd just be referred back to the EPU tomorrow morning. I've had only a bit of brown spotting today so I've called in sick at work and I'm going to go to my EPU first thing tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the reassurance Lucky and everyone else for just understanding - it makes a huge difference to be able to share your fears with people who know how it feels. DH just told me I should go to work otherwise I'll be sitting home 'moping' I don't think he quite understands the fear I have of MCing at work - although I am going to have to explain to them after tomorrow what has been going on with me. I can't imagine they're best pleased with this latest run of sick days - especially as I've just been promoted.

LuckySocks13 · 15/09/2013 16:41

kJ - glad toy have had a bit of distraction and will get seen 2mor. You are much more important than work. I would now put your feet up and rest. Will be thinking of you.

Welcome Sazza Babs. Could you phone the miscarriage clinic and explain the situation. I was give progesterone supplement this time and am now at 30 weeks.

Sending positiveness to everyone this Sunday afternoon.

fod27 · 15/09/2013 17:20

Hi sazza congrats on the BFP here's hoping its a sticky one cxxxx

kjh sod work! Stay at home, I'm sorry but some things are more important... Your health for starters.. Let's face it you won't be able to do your job properly anyway with all this weighing on your mind (and any pregnancy related time off is treated differently ESP if you've had a mc previously- they can't say a bloody dickie bird about it )

Look after you huni... Your going through a lot tight now - both physically and mentally xxxxxxxx thinking of you sweetie xxxx fingers crossed xxx

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 15/09/2013 17:38

{{{hugs}}} for you Kjh.
How fucking typical! You see a hospital show on TV, every A&E has a portable US machine. In reality... Confused
Try and remain positive. Much easier said than done I know, makes room on the sofa of despair and hold on to the fact that brown blood is old. Which means its residual. So the bleed has stopped. It is very common. Try and keep your brain occupied. I can recommend old B&W movies!

omri · 15/09/2013 19:29

Fingers crossed for tmrw kjh! Hope you can get some sleep tonight. For some reassurance I have had 2 instances of bright red blood and another day I had excruciating cramps and back pain. However... Still pregnant now at 14.5 weeks :)

Welcome sazza and congrats on your pregnancy!

MarthasHarbour · 15/09/2013 20:32

Just catching up, oh kjh i had my heart in my mouth reading your posts, but i agree that if the bleed has stopped and all you have is brown blood then it is most likely old blood. When i was pregnant with DS this happened to me at 10weeks, the MW told me to stay in bed all day which i did and it was fine. I am keeping everything crossed this is the same thing. Good luck tomorrow. The EPU situation reminded me of my first MC, i went into A&E on a Tuesday morning at 8am and they said they would scan me, they didnt get to me until lunchtime at which point they said that the USS unit was closed for the afternoon for audit Hmm They kept me in overnight and i had to be scanned on Weds morning (by which time i had lost so much blood i knew the outcome)

Sorry for the TMI but i just wanted to say that USS depts are shite even midweek Sad i also wanted to highlight the point that i think you would know by now if you were going through this again. I will be thinking about you tomorrow xx

Welcome sazza what a stressful year you have had, sending posifrickintivity and hugs your way, you will be due not far behind me, i am 6+4 Smile

MarthasHarbour · 15/09/2013 20:38

As for me, i was out with my boozy friends (nursery mums - notoriously the worst kind of pissheads!!). I made the excuse that i was feeling shivery and headachey all day and most of them fell for it, other than my friend who hadnt heard the convo and later in the evening when-she was pissed noticed my Becks Blue Alcohol free beer and said 'oooooooo why are you on the alco free beer - why are you DRIVING? Martha you are usually the pisshead - oooo you are arent you? yes yes yes you ARE. When i gave my excuses she winked and said 'ok i buy that excuse ' Hmm

Thankfully the only one who heard this drunken tirade was my closest friend who knows anyway - she was watching this with a Shock face and said that i handled it beautifully! I am half tempted to text said pisshead friend and vow her to secrecy, i could say that she has VIP status in my circle of trust if she keeps her trap shut!! Grin

tomkat you and me are on the same level - i am still feeling vomity and think i have about 6 weeks of this Angry

Chocolateteabag · 15/09/2013 21:13

Evening all Wine (I wish)

KJH - good luck for tomorrow, but glad to hear you just had brown blood today. Why does this always happen at the most awkward of times (weekends, when you are away from home etc etc)

Re movements - I didn't really feel this one until 20-22 weeks. He's making up for it now, but I did worry a bit as everyone says you at supposed to feel the second one sooner.

Martha - sounds like you had a fun night Grin will your pisshead friend realise what she said today?

Have been getting "tight tummy" spasms this weekend where whole bump goes rigid. I remember getting them with DS later on, they are blimmin horrid.

Bodicea · 15/09/2013 21:38

kjh sending you a hug. Good luck for tommorow. And remember he fact that the bleeding has gone lighter and brown is a good sign that it is probably nothing .

RainbowConnections · 15/09/2013 22:05

Good luck for tomorrow kjh.

Liesl I didn't feel any movement with DS until 20 weeks.

Christine hope you got through today OK. x

ChristineDaae · 15/09/2013 22:45

Martha - maybe pisshead friend will have forgotten?
Kjh - it's so rubbish that they can't even check you at a weekend isn't it :( brown blood is a good sign though, fingers crossed all is ok)
Rainbows - thanks, I was a bit crappy this morning but started cleaning and the day has kind of disappeared. Had lots of fun with my steam cleaner.

GuffSmuggler · 16/09/2013 08:45

Thinking of you today kjh I hope you are in bed and haven't gone to work. Really hoping they will see you asap today. The waiting for reassurance is so awful Sad

kjh5 · 16/09/2013 11:12

Thanks so much everyone - can't tell you how much I appreciate the support. The wait at EPU was long but everything is fine. We were both there expecting them to say there was no heartbeat but she just found a healthy baby measuring bang on 9wks which was reassuring. We saw the heartbeat on screen and both started crying. She thinks the bleed was from the placenta, apparently they sit quite low early on in pregnancy and can sometimes cause a bleed as they move. But she couldn't find an obvious place the bleeding came from and said it was nothing to worry about...

Apologies for being so self-obsessed yesterday, just realised I didn't even say welcome to sazza! Congrats on your BFP - pull up a chair and settle in, everyone here is really lovely.

Christine I hope yesterday wasn't too hard for you - your lovely healthy bubba will be here soon enough.

Hope everyone else is ok today xx

TheNobodies · 16/09/2013 11:14
