Welcome ladies, new and old. Grin May we all have dull and boring pregnancies. Pull up a chair, crack open a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine and settle in for mutual handholding, fishslapping and neurosis.

Morning kjh

I had this discussion with my GP yesterday who's not a fan of me having an early scan and is advising me to wait until 12 weeks.

I had an 8 week scan last time and all well....next day I MC. They told me that a scan is only proof that you're baby is fine at that moment, pretty harsh but I guess it's true.

If you're going really crazy with worry then maybe you should get one, otherwise I'd wait. Very very personal decision xx

kjh5 · 14/09/2013 13:26

Tomkat I do think you are right. I've had a 7week scan at the EPU due to a bleed and then we had booked a private one at 7+6 which we went to as well. Both scans showed a strong heartbeat and growth so part of me thinks another one at 10 weeks is a bit excessive and a waste of money. Especially as I am trying really hard to rein in the neurosis this time around. I think I'm feeling a bit panicky because so many people know now and I feel that if things go wrong at 12 weeks I will somehow have failed everyone who is excited for us (I know how ridiculous this sounds).

I think I need to try and reassure myself that the MS has gotten worse and is a constant reminder that 'today I am pregnant.' If there are any more bleeds or anything else to worry about I can go straight to my EPU who have been very sympathetic and lovely... I just wish the first trimester was over! I so desperately want to be excited about this and not worried and stressed!

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 14:57

I hear ya, and I'm glad you know how ridiculous your comment sounds about letting people down. Almost as ridiculous as me thinking we finally managed a shag this morning and now my boobs don't hurt therefore it must be game over. Omfg how many more weeks of this panic!

Glad your EPU are good, mine was lovely last time too so will have no reservations annoying them again if feel the need.

Deep breath...and relax :-)

fod27 · 14/09/2013 15:18

Don't judge me but I had a scan at 8 weeks, another at 9 because of a bleed one a 9+5 and one at 11+2 it was the only thing that kept me sane and my sanity was soooo worth the expenditure. I think you have to do what feels right for you. Plus we knew that with each week that passed the risk of MC went down... We had a MMC last time and I found it soooo hard that I never realised my baby had been dead inside me for nearly a month, so needing to know is kinda taking over my life ATM

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 15:36

No one would judge you fod, as you say it's a very personal thing. I'm trying not to think about the whole MMC too much as I know carrying a lil baby around with no heartbeat for a week was bad enough last time and the thought of going through it again is too much.

like forester said the other day, she wished she had pushed for an 8 week scan. There is no right or wrong is there, just whatever you feel is best.

Personally if I ruled the world Id give an USS machine to all pregnant mums as soon as they got a BFP and then we can be hooked up to it all day haha

fod27 · 14/09/2013 16:19

Hahaaaa my sonographer was a MW and she had had 2 MCs and told me how she was using the machine daily to check.... That'd be me lol

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 18:35

Have discovered crystillized ginger. Food of the gods right now!

TeaAndANatter · 14/09/2013 18:38

Tomkat - bleeeugh! And I don't even really have any MS!

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 18:42

Ha really tea? Have literally just had 3 chunks....mouth a little warm....but washing machine guts have slowed a little for sure.

ThePFJ · 14/09/2013 19:40

Ginger is supposed to be really good.... I have ginger nut biscuits :P Close as I can get!!

Still pregnant today..... 1 week until my first scan...... >.<

hugs xxx

shellsocks · 14/09/2013 19:51

Ha ha nice one martha Grin

We had our 4D scan for DS with babybond tea and they charged £180. They were more professional it seemed but we have come away with a lot more (better quality prints etc) from life thru a lens and they were half the price!

Ah shame fod got all excited abt maybe having met you at MW etc. and not known!

fod27 · 14/09/2013 20:37

I thought exactly the same thing shellshock gutted

BlackberryandNettle · 14/09/2013 21:21

Agree it is better to have the reassurance of scans kjh and fod, especially after a mmc. 12 weeks is a long time to wait, actually feel quite angry reading that forester didn't get given an early scan :-( I had one at 7 weeks nhs but the epu only agreed to it because I had needed 3 erpcs the first mmc (tissue v old/tough apparantly). So nice to have that reassurance. I also had a scan at 9 weeks due to cramping at epu near work - all okay but then had spotting 2 days later... We were about to go away for a week so I have left it, it has stopped and I have a scan on tuesday evening booked privately so shall see then if things are okay then....

Has anyone gone for the new non invasive Harmony test? I am having it on Tuesday if the scan looks okay, get the results at the nuchal scan two weeks afterwards.

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 22:43

You lot are making me feel like I need an early scan! Confused

ThePFJ · 14/09/2013 22:46

My MW said she'd organise one for me literally because I have lost so many in the past..... to help me relax.... Normally you don't need one... and tbh they don't like to do reassurance scans in my county anymore... MW is 'wangling' one for me.... cough cough... she insisted.....

If you really want one Tomkat (week 7 scan) make a fuss Wink

I am expecting to see .... (drumroll please) ....a bubble!!

kjh5 · 14/09/2013 23:05

So I'm sitting here sobbing my heart out because I've just been to the loo and there is a whole lot of bright red blood. This is exactly how the last MC started. We're two days away from 9 weeks and I was really beginning to hope everything would be ok. There is no EPU open anywhere near me until Monday morning and worst thing is that we're at DH's parent's place and they don't know so he is now going to have to explain to them why I'm so distraught. This is so hideous, feel as if I'm trapped in some awful nightmare...

ThePFJ · 14/09/2013 23:11

Call 111 or talk to your emergency doctor.. hospital did an emergency scan on me on a Sunday.... get yourself seen asap!!!
There are things they can do sometimes sweetheart.... call someone now!!

HUGE HUG SWEETHEART....... Get yourself seen......... xxxxx
Then keep us up to date.. we are here for you xxxxxxxxxx

Tomkat79 · 14/09/2013 23:24

Oh no darlin, get yourself to a&e to be checked ASAP. I have everything crossed for you xxxxx

fod27 · 15/09/2013 04:08

kjh try not to panic, phone NHS direct as they will be able to tell you where you will be seen... With my last mc I went to A and E and was left waiting for 5 hours to be told that there was no one trained to carry out the tests I needed and that they would book me in with the dr in the morning.... I was livid! Wouldn't want you waiting to be seen of there's another option to get the help you need quicker and they will be able to tell you that over the phone xxxx sending you hugs xxxx fx really hope everything's ok huni

Angloamerican · 15/09/2013 05:07

kjh I'm so sorry you're going through this stress again. Agree with pp, can you call NHS Direct and get direction as to who will be able to see you? Can you go to Casualty?

BlackholesAndRevelations · 15/09/2013 06:55

Kjh you poor thing Sad I hope you managed to get in touch with someone who could help and you're booked in for a scan.

Fingers crossed for you lovely xxxxxxxxx

pumpkinsweetie · 15/09/2013 08:34

Oh kjh Sad how awful, keeping my fingers crossed for you xx
Could you admit yourself to A&E, i'm sure they will see you?

ChristineDaae · 15/09/2013 09:16

Oh KJh! I really hope you got seen by someone and everything is ok. I will be keeping my fingers crossed v tightly for you.

On a bit of a downer here, it's the EDD of my MC and I'm pretty sure that no one else will even remember. Trying to stick with the grateful for being pregnant now but just so surreal that I should have/be on the verge of having a baby right now.

Lieslvontrapp · 15/09/2013 09:39

kjh hope you managed to speak to someone and can get seen today. Really hope everything's ok.

christine hope you get through today. Hugs x

I'm 18+6 and not felt any movements yet and mentioned it to DH last night and now I've worried him so trying to reassure him that with first babies some people don't feel anything until 20-22 wks. Is this right? We have our scan in 11 days but wondering if I should call the midwife, buy a Doppler or book a private scan. Any advice would be appreciated. X

TotalShock · 15/09/2013 09:43

kjh how are you today? I hope you got to see someone

We are all thinking of you. Big hugs x
