Feel very nervous writing this. But I'm in my bold "sod the doctor" mood. Anyone joining me?

Eyelash? (after all, I consider it to be you who got me here in the first place )

Anyone else?

Hello Geogteach, and hi to everyone. I've been keeping a low profile - weekend in Barcelona, even moving at OAP speed with me old mama really knocked me out. Had a fab time though.

Fisil sorry you're feeling so blitzed, it's all consuming isn't it? Eyelash - look forward to hearing about the scan. Harman - pleased your mil has made contact and apologised, really felt for you over that.

Geogteach - think there's something fantastically verdant and full on about going back pregnant after maternity leave. Go girl.

I am staring two work deadlines in the face, one I've already extended. Spent Tuesday staring at my notes as though they'd been written by somebody else (somebody with appaling handwriting btw). Today I'm planning to 'power through' as Rachel suggested she and Joey do in Friends.

Finally - have had to succumb to the one size bigger tracky bottom look already.

Hello all.

Harman - glad your mil is at least trying! Toots - know what you mean about the tight trousers as well. Fisil - hope you feel better today.

Geotech - I personally don't think it should be an issue about you going back to work pregnant. I understand it is more difficult in teaching but maternity provisions were set up for the protection of mothers' and childrens' rights. Where will future generations be without more children.

Well - my scan. Baby is great. Could see the head and even some limb buds. The boys behaved as well so even dh and ds1 could see the heartbeat. My official date is now the 3 October. It really hasn't sunk in yet and I am so excited and feel I can now relax a bit. My next scan is in two and a half weeks time. Can't wait.

Hi - I'm brand new to all of this. I'm almost 9 weeks pg (due on 6 October according to my calculations using LMP chart). This is the first time I've ever been pg and I am terrified!!

Have my booking appointment next wk. One question I have is about scans - I've seen references to scans at 8 weeks and then some people say you have to wait til 12 weeks. If my midwife (attached to doc's surgery) says 12 weeks at the earliest for my first scan (I had a struggle to get this appointment at 9 weeks), can I insist on an earlier one? I'm in my mid 30s and want to have scans and tests asap.

Is everyone else terrified/nervous??

I saw my GP today and have booking in appointment next week. Still haven't told anyone else, can just anticipate all the was it planned questions! Think i'll wait till i've had my scan, crossing my fingers I get one before I go back to work, not sure i'm up for asking for time off for antenatal appointments during first week back after maternity leave! Anyway its easter hols after that - maybe there are advantages to being a teacher after all!

has anyone had a doctor tell them that their levels went down so they misscarried and then had them go up so he told you you didn't?

piglit - congrats!
Being pg IS scary but try not to let fear be all-consuming or you'll end up a wreck! From my understanding, you can request or you get early scans if you have had a "problem" pg so far e.g. bleeding; history of miscarriage or ectopic pg or you have specific medical problem.
Not sure if you can get them done privately for no other reason - someone will be able to advise I expect.
Try try try to relax a bit - tell yourself you owe it to your little dot to be as calm as poss and just wait til 12 weeks. Sorry - I don't have any magic words for you. Good luck x

BTW your booking appt should help answer quite a lot of your questions. Go to the appt with a list of questions and if they're not answered by your midwife in the course of your chat ask her afterwards.

Congratulations Piglit. It is scary, but with me it gradually gets better, but the anxiety didn't go away until my son was in dps arms. After that the worries were much much smaller. I am shocked at going back to this level of anxiety - I'd forgotten what it was like! I have had regular scans both times - with no additional complications or history. There is an excellent early pregnancy unit nearby (St Georges in Tooting) where they are totally understanding that pregnant anxiety is a good enough reason to have a scan. I think I told them I was bleeding when I went in - but really I didn't need to. Is there anywhere like that near you?

Eyelash - congrats on the scan. I have mine on Tuesday.

I'm feeling much better - 12 hours sleep Thurs/Fri night and an early night last night. Still feeling tired - but not that awful pg tired!

Hi Piglit, congratulations. PG is nine months of waiting interspersed with pockets of normal life and ones of anxiety in my opinion. Time goes VERY slowly to 12 weeks, but others are right, if life is being spoiled by anxiety, then get an early scan.

Thanks to everyone for their congrats. I am now 7 weeks and feeling a bit better about everything. Sorry it has taken so long to reply but my life is a bit hectic. A little bit about me. I am a nursery nurse working in a day nursery, looking after 3-4 year olds. I am also doing a part time evening law degree so as you can see very busy. I am 34years old and have been married 4 years. This will be my first child and I am very grateful for the advice you have given. Here's another one for you I took antibiotics with doctors approval and now have thrush. I am using natural yogurt and drinking cranberry juice any other suggestions would be very helpful. Speak soon.

Glad you're feeling better Diddums. You must be really experienced with little ones - have you ever looked after babies?

I've asked at work if I can work from home a couple of times a week for the next 5 weeks, to avoid ending up being signed off for a fortnight like last time. They are thinking about it, but it doesn't sound promising, as they say there is an "equal opportunities issue." Not sure I agree, I think it is more the case that if I suffered from sickness instead of tiredness they would be happy, but tiredness is a hard one to believe (after all, we all get tired but heroically battle on). So I'm a bit nervous about the response (and the fact that it'll make me cry).

2nd prang in 7 weeks of pg today - and they say this tiredness doesn't affect me ...

Morning all!

Piglet - being nervous is so much part and parcel of being pregnant. As for scans - can you speak to your midwife at the booking in. Normally early scans are only given if there is bleeding, pain, etc but every borough differs. I do hope you find some time to relax though as growing these children is such an amazing experience.

Fisil - best of luck with your scan tomorrow. Could your work allow you to work from home just in the afternoons/mornings when you get the worst bout of tiredness. Or do they have a first-aid room where you could have a nap. I am seriously considering this option as well!

Harman and Debra64 - I know I am being premature but we started talking at the weekend about the possibility we might need a bigger car! Can I get 3 carseats into the back of a focus? There was a thread on this recently but it was inconclusive so any tips would be great.

Geogteach, diddums and toots - hope you are all well.

Does that make eight of us on this thread now? Have I missed anybody out - if so apologies but just did a very quick scan of the messages.

And where is crossfingers?

Hello all,
This is my first post on MN, but I have lurked for a while!
I am expecting my third child in Oct (20th I think but date has to be confirmed). I am suffering badly from morning sickness as I did on my other two - everything I eat comes back up! Still, I treat it as a good sign.
Hope to get to know you all over the coming months.

Thank you all so much for your messages. I feel heaps better already and not nearly so alone! The beginning of Oct seems a long way off but having read your messages I am determined to chill out, relax a bit and enjoy it all. Mind you, enjoy might be the wrong word to describe constant nausea, heartburn and exhaustion....

Fisil,
DD will be 5 in June and DS will be two in April. Told my mum (who thankfully is a great support and loves ker grandkids) the news yesterday and her reaction was a little less...whatever...than I hoped. Maybe she expected us to stop at two as that's what she did? I am not too worried though, perhaps she is just being cautious as it is quite early days and I had an early m/c in 2001.
Anyway, it is great to read all your messages and 'talk' to people in the early stages of PG, when outwardly you are trying to pretend that everything is normal, and inside you are torn up with worry/nausea/tiredness!

Does anyone else have lower back pain? It seems a bit early for all these aches and pains....

Report
fisil · 01/03/2004 20:32

What kind of lower back pain? I'm still having the odd period pain, but nothing more than that. Bad backs are a nightmare in pregnancy, apparently, as they are really difficult to treat, so if it is proper pain pain, I'd see your GP soon.

That's very useful harman - especially as I'd fogotten my due date! I've been thinking "mid-ish October" - but I couldn't actually think of the date. Mind you, if last time was anything to go by, I might even hit November!

Wow - there really was something in the water that second week in January!
