Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fairypangolin · 16/10/2013 15:06

crisps Sounds like you have the ideal consultant we all want to see! That's great that the twins are doing so well and he was supportive of your choice of how you want to give birth. Also glad to hear you had a worthwhile referral for the SPD. I saw an NHS physio a couple of times when I had SPD in my first pregnancy and she was completely useless. She kept referring to it as 'lower back pain' which of course it is NOT at all. Her only recommendation was pelvic floor exercises - which presumably they recommend to everyone with lower back pain? I think not. I really think she had no idea what SPD was but wouldn't admit it or look it up. This was 6 years ago now though.

Weirdly I have had virtually no SPD with this pg at all. A bit at 20-24 weeks but nothing since then unless I really strain myself. I was expecting it to be much worse this time round since I understand that is usual but it's been fine.

I just had my sweep and the MW was able to stretch it open to two fingers and do a proper separation of the membranes so fingers crossed it will start something off. She said from the pains I have been having and the state of my cervix it is very unlikely I won't have had it by next Thurs (when I have the CS booked) so that was reassuring. It was quite uncomfortable, like a smear that goes on much longer but not agonising. Less uncomfortable than egg collection definitely.

buzzy I agree with crisps that I hope you can get signed off. So difficult to keep working when you feel rotten and are pg. And the fact they can't diagnose a cause may make it seem worse in a way.

Sorry for lack of further personals but I am going to take advantage of DS not being home from school yet to have a sneaky nap.

Dildals · 16/10/2013 16:23

Two shelves of my freezer are filled with milk. That is a LOT of nights out on the lash.

The sofa is for watching telly. Bella has already been scarred I am afraid. Although I agree that it is slightly unnerving to see her looking at us after we're done.

Oh and the story about that little boy that died in his cot, how fuckin awful.

buzzy poor you, sounds like you are having a shit time.

Bella got weighed this morning and she's gained 400 grams in 2 weeks (2.8kgs / 6 pounds something). GET IN. (I think that's good?) She's still 9th percentile though, whereas I only recently realised that she was 50th percentile when she was born. (this is all on the preterm growth chart, not the 'normal' one.) I guess the hospital wasn't worried about this, but will ask the neonatologist when I see him. She's been guzzling down 100ml+ bottles, no problem, in the evening with her force feeding dad.

I bought her a monkey sleepsuit at Primark (they also have crocodile, tiger and zebra) so her Halloween suit is sorted!

I also succumbed to quackery. Amazing what children do to you. I have taken her to the osteopath for her wind. A lot of people report good results though. Anything to make her more comfortable.

Ginestas · 16/10/2013 16:25

Oh buzz sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. I'm pleased nothing is seriously wrong, but wish they could do something to help you. It's bloody unfair to have such a hard pregnancy after all the ttc shit. Is Barry back down in London now? I don't know what I'd do without Mr G making me dinner in the evenings and picking things up for me

crisps hurrah for being able to move without hideous pain! Also good news about all being well with the girls. The ginster has never been head down on scans/when touched up... Hopefully she'll get into position at some point. Slightly hot consultant, mmmm. Speaking of hot, did anyone see the (enjoyable) trash Friends with Benefits? My preggo hormones were all over JT's arse Grin

keep we only get a virtual hospital tour, although I go to see some of the labour ward on Sat! I must have a look on line.

fairy wohoo to disappearing plug! Sneeze that baby right out. And well done for surviving the sweep. Were you awake for EC?!

onion I am most jealous of your 2 freezers. I'd love another, or even just one that's not doll house size, but we have no room in our tiny house. Sorry it was another bad night's sleep. Between my indigestion and DH's work stress keeping him up, I'm not getting much sleep and feel constantly drained. Don't know how you manage it with 2 kids to look after!

motor the CMV thing sounds stressful. I have never heard of it (adds to list of potential pregnancy worries). Hopefully it is just a cold. There seems to be a lot about at the mo.

sweetie dispute that parking ticket I say! Bastards! We always have a massive stress trying to park at the hospital. God knows what happens if I go into labour at a busy time.

Waves to foody. Hang in there!

shazz lovely to see you and Mr S last night, as ever. I found the class really good, although it's left me feeling annoyed that our normal teacher is so pants.... I learnt so much about breast feeding! Not sure how Mr G felt about all the pics of boobs ;)

dildals I agree Bella looks super cute in the FB pic. I figured the MW must have been worried about pre term labour/poo pains due to all the checking out of me they did. They said the lack of severe cramps and closed cervix meant they were fairly certain that it wasn't pre term labour. I do still feel a bit freaked out by it and don't quite trust my body now. I was born at 35 weeks and so have a feeling ginster may be early (bet I end up being induced for being late having said that!)

I'm having an I feel fucking massive day. There may have been a growth spurt or it may be bloating. Totally can't do up my shoe laces, let alone tend to the yoni. God knows how I'm feel at 9 months -will need slaves to tend on my every need! Luckily I'm working from home mostly eating cake today. I froze some slices of cheesecake that I'm working my way through. Hmmm maybe that's why I'm so massive...

OnionRing · 16/10/2013 19:37

My second freezer is an under the counter one and only cost £100. I'm sure it's paid for itself by now with all the knockdown food I buy. You do need the room though (which is where living in the impoverished North with it's almost reasonable house prices comes in.)

Agree with the others about getting signed off buzzy.

crisps I'm well impressed by the physio. They did absolutely fuck all for my SPD except give me a pair of crutches. Or 'crunches' as DD1 calls them.

I'm a terrible food stockpiler, it drives DH mad. He thinks if you plan to eat baked beans this week then you buy one can. I say you should always have at least four in the cupboard just in case. I can always rustle up sneak without leaving the house though so I win.

gin I hope they warned you that breast feeding can really hurt at first. Actually, how are you getting on Dildals pain wise? It took six weeks for me to presumably lose all sensation in my nipples.

dildals it sounds like she's growing very nicely. Ringlet was 25th centile but is now nearer 20th. I must get to Primark for a costume for her. I've had to buy more vests and tops as weaning is absolutely filthy and she needs changing after lunch and dinner.

fairy I hope the sweep helps things along. Try and rest!

Yes shazz you could go at anytime too...

I had DD1 at the GP today as she has a chest infection. She has a dreadful cough and it's waking her at night, poor mite. Autumn is an absolute hotbed of disease. I'm fearing that I'll get ill due to tiredness so I'm going to go back on the multivitamins.

MotorcycleMama · 16/10/2013 20:46

Hello all. GP decided that I should wait to have any tests until back home, which I was quite pleased about. I can't see what a couple of days waiting would matter. Just worried that none of the health professionals I've spoken to so far has any idea about CMV. Oh well, I think (hope) it is just a fuss about nothing, largely generated by me, so only myself to blame.

Sorry for lack of personals, but I am being rather antisocial writing this at the moment, so better get back to DH. X

Dildals · 16/10/2013 21:26

onion I hate to say it, but the breastfeeding is not painful at all. Thanks to my favourite piece of silicon, the nipple shield. Occassionally the first 30 secs is slightly painful when she is sucking down letdown. And she sometimes sucks at the end bit, when she's lazy, that's painful. But apart from that I can only recommend the use of a nipple shield, the part God forgot to put on a woman.

keepitgoing · 16/10/2013 21:36

Well enjoy the rest of your hols motor

I am getting so many BH... Anyone else did at this stage? 34 weeks. The lady taking our class tonight said thin people can feel them more, but I'm a little worried of course anyway, I'm seeing mw tomorrow so can ask.

Was really weird to look round the birth centre and delivery suite didn't hear any screaming, they must have good insulation next time we'll be there it'll be show time!! :)

Ginestas · 16/10/2013 22:05

Just popping in quickly to say keep I'm getting lots of hicks at 31 weeks. The MW said not to worry as long as they aren't painful. Looking at the chart in my notes from Sat's monitoring, I was surprised to see they were almost every ten mins... I'll be interested to hear what your MW tells you.

motor hope you can enjoy your hols and not worry too much.

onion sorry to hear DD is sick. Everyone at work/on the train seems to be lurgified at the mo. My mum said exactly the same thing about BFing being painful at first ( and my brother vomming up blood from her nips, urgh). The teacher seemed to imply it's all about the latch, but I'd heard everyone tends to find it painful to start...

dildals I'm loving the sound of the Primani animal sleep suit. And yay for super weight gain and pain free BFing.

Foodylicious · 16/10/2013 22:50

Just popping in to say I have been to docs today, burst into tears and now have 2 weeks off work, which takes me up to MW booking in appt. She was lovely, said all the obvious things, but it was good to go and she said just to ring if I need the note extending, though I hope I don't need to.

Sounds a bit hicktastic ladies! & fairy hope its not too much longer for you.

happy thoughts to all x x

OnionRing · 17/10/2013 04:43

That's good dildals, ringlet still has a terrible latch, especially when she's not that hungry and hangs off the end of my nipple.

gin it is all about the latch but some babies just can't get it right (both of mine!) and none of the many lactation consultants I've seen have ever been able to sort it. It was extremely painful at first but eventually got better as the baby's mouth got bigger and I got tougher. It just annoyed me that I wasn't warned it could be so painful and told that the painful stage would pass after six agonising weeks!

foody that's good on the condition that you don't spend the time googling and working yourself up. I hope you feel better for talking to the doctor.

I had Braxton hicks from 20 weeks and loads towards the end, almost whenever I moved! As long as they're not painful don't worry.

motor how annoying and yes, I'm surprised at the general ignorance.

Despite frequent checking of DD1 I have actually had some sleep tonight! I have been trying to be less responsive to ringlet and turning my back on her so I don't seem so accessible. She hits my back and pulls at my top when she wants to feed, she's very rude. What a difference some bits of sleep make though.

ceara · 17/10/2013 09:04

fairy hope all is well and your midwife is right about minipangolin making an appearance soon

dildals yaay to guzzling and weight gain, and cute monkey sleepsuits.

buzzy, crisps sorry you are both poorly. It's good that it is "just" being pregnant that is making you feel this way but no fair, especially after all you've been through. Shitty pregnancy symptoms should only be allotted to instadiffers, to even things out a bit.Your physio sounds like a star, though, crisps. Buzzy - two words - sick leave. Can you take any?

keep we only get a virtual tour of the hospital, so good to be able to see the actual place.

motor hope you are managing to enjoy the break despite the CMV stress and worry. Fingers crossed it us "just" a cold. There are so many about. The world is coughing and sniffling (me included - why is there no decongestant for pregnant women FFS?)

onion you are a bad woman. Frozen cake slices. There goes my plan to fill the freezer with healthy and nutritious one pot balanced meals.

foody great to hear you are hanging in there. As onion says, 2 weeks off to rest and quiten the mind is good as long as you do look after yourself well ie lots of distraction and no time spent with Dr Google. Like others have said, I had no symptoms to speak of either.

gin sorry to hear of your scare at the weekend, and also the loss of your fur baby. Being expected doesn't make it easier, does it? I hope things go better for you this week.

sweetie appeal that ticket!! I am curious still to know what we all do when in labour and no parking spaces to be found...

shaz hope your last week is going smoothly, roll on maternity leave and lots of cooking (are you still going for healthy meals, or cake?). I can't believe you are 36 weeks already.

Waves to everyone else.

I have a few days off and plans to do (or ideally, supervise, but you can't get the staff)
some decorating. Friday would have been the due date of the embie which didn't stay with us, so planning to distract myself with nesting. Even though the NHS doesn't "count" chemical pregnancies, I can't help thinking about it and feeling sad.

Sorry for that cheery thought. Anyway, today, we are pregnant :-)

keepitgoing · 17/10/2013 09:40

time off for nesting and decorating sounds fab ceara, but take it easy!

foody are you feeling physically rough, is that why you need time off? Poor you. I agree with the others that keeping busy is actually a better way to make time pass, and that google is evil. Go only on our thread...

Thanks gin and onion for reassurance on the BH front. It's quite debilitating, esp when combined with a bad back. I feel like an old granny!

I just wanted to say that as well as the hosptial tour last night we did the NHS class - it was more rushed than NCT as they only have 6 hours, but also really good I thought. So if anyone isn't doing NCT i'd recommend these classes.

shaz in like 30 hours you'll be on mat leave!! Woo hoo!!!

Oh ceara re parking spaces - we asked last night. They said you turn up, park outside and put your hazards on, dh takes you in and gets you checked in or whatever, then he has to go out and hunt around the hosptial for a parking space. And pay £13.30 for a 24 hour period most likely. in coins. So we are starting to collect our coins now! Then what if they send you home, and you've just paid all that money! Or the alternative is to pay for an hour and keep running out to top up and pay even more in the long run. Nightmare. Still, I think it's preferable to a taxi for us.

Foodylicious · 17/10/2013 10:32

Thanks guys
keep I will be keeping plenty busy, just not got the head space for work. I am not gooling at all. Won't go on about it, but I am strugling and pre-occipied with the thought that i could MC anytime. Still getting over rubbish cough and cold and generally exhausted.
Anyway, needless to say distraction of work does not work and just makes me feel incompetent cause I cannot concentrate at work at all and it is a really stressful & challenging environment at the moment.
So will be doing stuff round the house, still putting it back together after some decorating.
Off to look at curtain poles and cupboards today Smile

fairypangolin · 17/10/2013 10:35

Another evening run up of pains and tightenings which then disappear when I go to sleep. However, I am still quite crampy this morning and feel rather weepy and irritable so maybe the minipang will be out by the weekend. DS must be sensing this too as he has been tremendously clingy all of a sudden.

gin my IVF clinic offered either general anaesthetic or sedation plus local anaesthetic for egg collection. I chose the latter because I was obsessed with the number of eggs I would produce and wanted to know as soon as possible what the result was. Also I know there are some risks albeit very slight, with GA and thought I might as well avoid that risk. As it was I had a pethidine injection beforehand, then gas and air during the EC plus a very sturdy nurse from the Midlands stood next to me the whole time so I could clutch her hand while she distracted me by chatting about my dressing gown etc. It wasn't the worst pain but if I had to do it again I would probably go for GA. The nurse was great though, I'd like to have her around for all sorts of unpleasant medical procedures.

foody like onion says, enjoy your 2 weeks off and stay away fr the Google!

keep every time I have been to a birth centre or delivery unit I have never heard a sound. Even when I was in labour I seemed to be the only one there, although at one point I did hear a baby crying and was annoyed that whoever that was had had her baby before me. I think the thing is that labour as a whole is a lot more quiet then we are led to believe.

I seem to remember that taxis won't take women in labour, we didn't own a car when I was pg with DS and I looked into it. If you are in active labour it might be difficult to keep it hidden from the driver!

ceara I'm sorry about your Friday anniversary. a pregnancy is a pregnancy even if very short in my mind. But as you say you are now definitely pregnant so hopefully you can keep that front and foremost in your mind.

dildals great news as to Bella's weight gain. And kudos on filling the fridge! I didn't find BFing hurt my nipples beyond the first couple of weeks but DS had a good latch so he wasn't pulling or sucking on the nipple at all. But it's great that nipple shields exist for those who do, I'll have to remember that if this baby is different.

onion hope you had a better night and DD is feeling better.

hello to everyone else. Mum and I are going out for another walk along the river, it's a beautiful autumn day here.

MrsHY1 · 17/10/2013 15:55

Gah I'm so behind again!
Thank you Shazz and Dildals for a lovely coffee and natter sesh on Sunday, never mind Bella ogling. Gin and Buzzy sorry you were unwell but fingers crossed to see you both very soon.
Fairy fingers crossed this IS IT! Very exciting. I shall eagerly await further updates.
Keep and Gin I'm rather jealous about the BHs. Mind you, I THINK I sort of woke up having one a few night ago. I invoked my 'up breathing' and it seemed to tail off.
Onion I am also well jel of your freezer capabilities. I intend to do a load of batch cooking when I'm on mat leave but I'm a shit cook anyway so I'll see how that pans out.
Crisps glad to hear about your fabulous physio and beautifully growing ladies. That's your twins, not your boobs I'm talking about. :)
Waves to motorcycle, foody, ceeara and anyone else I've missed.
Nothing to report here! Off to my NCT breastfeeding class tonight. Have booked the yoni in for a wax (the logistics of trying to get my hair coloured and nether-hair removed both now and before my due date are doing my head in). x

keepitgoing · 17/10/2013 16:29

Just popping in to say all fine with me at the mw, and I have an urgent physio referral for my back. She said BH are fine so long as no pain, and since they tend to go when I rest. In fact I had one while she was examining me. We are head down but not engaged at all yet. Oh gin she said BH might be trying to ge
t baby to engage.

My yoni is
unloved right now. It's gonna have to be dh as I can't see and am allergic to waxing. Impressed at those who are maintaining them well.
mrsH why would you want BH...?!

keepitgoing · 17/10/2013 16:31

Oh yes, and the blooming pee pot is getting harder every time as now I can barely see. I didn't collect much today...

MrsHY1 · 17/10/2013 18:08

Lol keep - I don't know why I want them actually! Erm, practice?? x

fairypangolin · 18/10/2013 04:03

Ok so I think this may be it- after having pains all day yesterday, woke up at 2 am with what I think is a "show". Now having pains that I think are real contractions. They come in a wave and then go away, random timing still. Sitting on my birthing ball in the front room, reading the New Statesman to pass the time. Don't want to wake DH up yet. Minipang was v v quiet which was worrying me but she just had a big stretch so that's good. Ok here comes another rush!

MotorcycleMama · 18/10/2013 07:23

Oh fairy how exciting. Best of luck to you. X

SweetieTime · 18/10/2013 08:52

wow fairy sounds like it could be happening. so exciting, hope all goes well

Nokkie73 · 18/10/2013 09:09

Oh I am so behind again but just wanted to say all the very best of luck to Fairy. I hope all goes well and you get the birth you want. You go girl !

gin I am sorry about your fur ball. Pets are pets, no matter what they actually are. I also hope you're feeling a bit better after your weeks of worry, you poor thing. I thought of you yesterday as I had to get South West trains to Wimbers to meet a friend. The train was packed and no-one was giving up their seats. I actually had my bump in a woman's face and she still flatly refused to give-up her seat. When a bloke realised I was preggers he got up and I sat down, opposite bitch face. She gave me a dirty look and shook her head. What a cow. Still, it's not as good as the bible reading woman on the bus the other day who saw me, saw my bump (hard to miss it) pretended not to notice and steadfastly refused to move her fat arse from her seat. I felt like flattening her sanctimonious head with her King James. Fecking feck.

buzz sorry to hear that you are also poorly. Along with you and our poor crispywispy we could open-up a preggo ward. Your yoni comment did make me laugh like a drain though.

crisps what the total fuckery is going on beeatch ? at this rate, I'm going to have to send the big guns in. Yes. You've guessed it. Packets of cheesy poofs from M&S and some chipsticks. Please tell us that you feel better ?

motor I also hope you are ok too. When are you home ?

Hello to everyone else. I will name check some more later.

shazza last day at work I think for you. I hope all goes well.

onion sorry to hear dd1 is poorly. I hope she's feeling a bit better. Your description of dd2 made me chuckle. Sounds like my other half after a night out.

foody (I think) congrats !

mrsh ceara sweetie keep dildals HELLO ! X

putthecrispsDOWN · 18/10/2013 10:22

Good luck fairy....thinking of you! Hope you have a good and very boring routine labour if you know what I mean, looking forward to hearing your news.

noks I am here, feeling much better now, just kernackered. Have finished Geordie shore and a,m now watching a box set of the valleys which is immense while drinking cherry coke to stave off the morning sickness. I hate stupid rude people. On daybreak this morning (not a particular fan but have it on to drown out the sound of my retching for the neighbours) they were talking about whether it was sexist to offer a seat to a pregnant woman. For fucks sake, it isn't an illness but it is difficult to stand up and we need to sit down, not least because of all the maize-fuelled weight gain! Fidiots.

keepitgoing · 18/10/2013 11:08

WTF how is it sexist to give a seat to someone in need, whether that be because they are preggers or whatever. It'd be sexist if we said all women need a seat... noks i agree that it's annoying if people don't stand up, but you never know what their issue might be - just less obvious than a giant bump. So long as someone stands up for me I don't mind.

fairy good luck! Hope it's a fast one, you have a lovely soak in your big warm bath, then a quick sneeze and she's out.

shaz!! your last day at work! That must be a relief. 2 weeks for me.

I am very relieved to report that we completed on the sale of our house this morning, so we are going to pick up our beds tomorrow. Goodbye, airbed, it's been fun, but you're no pocket sprung mattress. I think I might spend the entire of Sunday in bed, with the cat finally allowed in there too Grin

MrsHY1 · 18/10/2013 13:26

Congrats on the completion keep and fab news about a proper bed!
Noks I haven't met any fuckwits of the kind you describe yet. Generally it's blokes that jump up for me on a train/bus. One woman looked like she wanted to yesterday, but then thought again and actually looked a bit angry/upset. I know that look - I think it was a 'why should I give my seat to someone who probably got pregnant when her partner waggled his cock about six feet from her a week before ovulating when she still had the coil fitted when I can't get pregnant for love nor money' look. Bless her. I wanted to defend myself by sharing my whole sorry story, give her some words of encouragement and kick her out of her frigging seat all at the same time.
Crisps your choice of viewing material is beyond reproach, sounds immense, but I'm sorry to hear about the retching.
Fairy how exciting!!! Wishing you well :)
