New thread ladies!

Happy birthday for tomorrow Bod sounds like you have a lovely day lined up!
DH is looking after DS tomorrow so I can go for a trip into York and a mooch round the shops. First stop will be a child free latte in Betty's!

Anda awesome that your plans are now in place :) That is rubbishy about DH though! At least your mother will be with you. A friend of mine has twin girls - they're 4 now and I remember asking her how she coped with feeding them etc. She told me it was easy - she tucked one under her right arm like a rugby ball and one under her left arm and put them on the boob - which made me laugh. Fx it all goes well for you.

Woke up this morning feeling nauseous as all hell and realised I actually want nothing more than to be nauseous enough to have my head stuck down a toilet... DH thinks I'm going mad. I'm only 4+2 so here's hoping I'm cursing MS sooner rather than later. On another positive POAS today and CB says I am 2-3weeks pg. Double checked and realised that I POAS exactly the same time last pregnancy (have photo to DH to prove it) and it only read 1-2weeks pg. I know those things are unreliable but I still feel slightly better that my HCG levels are possibly higher at this stage than they were last time around Grin

WhatWillSantaBring · 14/08/2013 10:26

tea - I was the same as you. I found reading a really really good book was my salvation. I re-read my favourite ever book, which is a monster 875 pages, and it was great for helping me get lost in a story instead of sitting contemplating the statistics. It didn't help that i was really quiet at work for the first 7 weeks after my BFP (and annoyingly, as soon as I got past 12 weeks, it went manic). Is there any other domestic project you can do? A bit of redecoration? Planning a new kitchen? House hunting for your next house? (OK, you don't even have to do it, but its fun to dream)

Thanks Santa, I'll try finding lots of books at the library, good plan!

Good to hear you feel a bit sicky kjh - I agree, roll on the nausea (although I had none with either DC, so may not ever get any anyway)

GuffSmuggler · 14/08/2013 13:27

Hi everyone,

I went through the faff of booking-in this morning, I walked past a portable scanner in the corridor and nearly begged the midwife for a quick cheeky scan to check everything was ok, but luckily resisted!

I feel quite drained by it, I had to go through all the miscarriage details for their records and all the other inane questions (which I know are important really) just took so long. I'm just trying to get through each day until the scan next Tues, it is the longest week ever.....

anda I'm too really shocked about your DH's leave, I second what santa says about a union as it cannot be legal

kjh5 · 14/08/2013 13:27

Thanks tea I know not everyone gets MS but as I didn't have any last time around when I MC'd I am taking it as a good sign I have some this time!

On the distraction front I am spending an awful lot of time on MN properly decluttering and cleaning every inch of our flat... Well I'm currently sitting on my computer surrounded by bin bags and wondering where the hell to begin. But I figure it will make me feel happier once my home looks more minimalist and tidy and less like a pop-up charity shop.

I figure by the time I have completed this Herculean task it will be safe to have an early heartbeat scan and DH can start thinking about turning the spare room into a nursery into somewhere people staying over might be able to sleep.

Like santa I also have a pile of books to read through and a stack of DVDs I plan on watching when DH is away next weekend.

Be careful what you wish for... Grin

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 14:35

Hi everyone! SaggyOldClothCatPuss has urged me to pop my head in here and say hello. I'm 6+4 but convinced all is not well. I had a reassurance scan this morning which was inconclusive so agonising two week wait now until the next one.

I too have been wishing for morning sickness which hasn't showed up yet.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 14:45

Hooray! DP is clearing the loft! He has unearthed my foot spa and my facial sauna!

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 14:51

Ooh I love a facial sauna. So relaxing! Perhaps you can teach DP how to give you a pedicure as well - maximum relaxation. Grin

She said she could see a small sac and a little flicker which could be a heartbeat but equally could have been a maternal pulse (no idea what that even means!) She said that going on my dates she would have expected to see a bigger sac and baby but that she was "on the fence" as to whether it was a blighted ovum or viable pregnancy. I could just see the sac and nothing else. No flicker or blur!

Pentagon · 14/08/2013 16:03

anda I hope your DH manages to get paternity leave if not on the 2nd, at least a couple of days or weeks later. Mind you, my DH didn't take his paternity leave straight away because my mum was staying with us and DD was either sleeping or breastfeeding (or crying) in the first couple of weeks. He bonded with her in the evenings and a few weeks later when he finally took his maternity leave (she was 6 weeks old and they were able to interact more). It's good that you'll have your mum staying with you, it'll make such a big difference!

tea I agree with Santa, books (and films) is what saved me during the first trimester. I recommend the Hunger Games trilogy - pure escapism!

poppy welcome and congratz! 6 weeks is a tricky time for scans as you may be a few days off. Was it an internal one? They can see more clearly this way. I know it's really hard but try to keep yourself busy in the next couple of weeks!

santa thanks. He's in the NASUWT and it's actually in their guidelines that you can't take paternity leave either side of a school shutdown and that it should be taken in full blocks of Monday to Friday. We've checked with his union rep as well. I'm well aware of how bonkers it sounds.

It's okay. We'll deal with it. Although if he makes one more joke about going to the one day international cricket match on the Sunday (after school rugby on the Saturday) I will not be responsible for my actions. Wink

Chocolateteabag · 14/08/2013 18:37

Anda - will you have someone else (DM?) who can come for the first few days to lend a hand? You will also have the midwife visiting for the first few days though and hopefully other visitors so maybe a blessing that your DH will be there to help when the rush of people has gone.

Took DS to see the GP this morning under pressure of DM and PIL's - typically his lungs are fine, it's a virus which will "clear in a week or so" - so stuck with the smokers cough for a while longer Sad

Hi Poppy congratulations on your BFP. As Katatonic says, you really are on the cusp of seeing a HB so please try to stay positive - it's not an exact science on when we ovulate vs when the egg is actually fertilised and starts to divide - can be several days which could put you back to 5 weeks.

IBIP - I have got a Serola support after seeing it recommended on MN - it goes under my bump and has really made a difference over the last couple of week. But it does squeeze on my bladder and is a joy to take off at the end of the day!

I am totally fed up of the nightly slog round the supermarket trying to find something I want to eat! Sad
Five a day, healthy and hydrated have gone right out of the window! Confused

BlackholesAndRevelations · 14/08/2013 20:45

Saggy- I'm craving soooo much salt at the moment. I'm probably desiccating my baby but I'm loving soy sauce, olives, crisps... Argh! Somebody stop me!!

Bodicea · 14/08/2013 20:50

Hello popping in to say hello after bit of a gap.

Saggy - i just spent ages looking through recipe books in the supermarket trying to think of something to make for tea. In the end went for old favorite of thai green curry - yum.

Diet - glad you've got a plan sorted. Think the inaccuracy on scan weight is a can of baked beans either way in the later stages! Well that's what a colleague of mine always tells patients! They are harder to measure the bigger they get.

Welcome poppy. I second what everyone else says. 6 weeks is a tough time for a scan. My first scan in this pregnancy I didn't get a heart beat. Hope you plan lots of nice things for next two weeks to take your mind of it xxxx

waves to other newbies too xxxxx

So toying with the idea of a proper pregnancy pillow. I am using a small wedge and another pillow between my legs. But always chuck them off in the middle of the night and wake up on my back which I am worried is not v good for me. Thinking of getting one of those massive ones so I cant escape/move. But they look so odd and v expensive. Anyone tried one?

WhatWillSantaBring · 14/08/2013 21:23

I have a theraline pillow- basically a long bean bag. And I love it. It was fab for bf as well, because the beans meant baby didn't move (unlike foam filled pillows). The sleeping on the back thing is not necessarily bad for you. Some women find the baby presses on the vena cava and that can make them feel sick, dizzy or even pass out. Others have no problems at all. I think you will know by 20 weeks if you are affected- and if you're not, there is no harm sleeping on your back.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 14/08/2013 21:28

Hi poppy :) welcome, hope everything goes well for you, it's horrible being in the worrying first weeks, good books and Ryan gosling movies got me through :)

Bod I got a big wrap around pillow from Argos, was £35 but zips up into a swirly snail shell and can be used as a reading/breast feeding pillow and also as a donut for baby to sit in - actually have to give DH the credit for it. It's v difficult to roll over with it as its your neck pillow and comes all the way down and up your back. I stuck a normal pillow case over the neck end although it does have a cover but think it was poly cotton and I'm a fussy cow and only like 100% cotton!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 21:36

Janie I cant find that pillow in Argos, can you give me some more info please?

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 14/08/2013 21:49
