I'm due on the 17th...2nd baby and so excited. Currently in slow labour so contractions in the evening completely irregular and turning into a disappointing nothing!!!
How are you getting along??

Thanks for replies! They were just getting regular and then had a 25 min gap! Dh could be here within half an hour hopefully and it is our first.

Congrats to everyone! Not long for any of us to wait really.

ZingWidge · 21/07/2013 21:10

nervy congrats on first baby btw!

in that case I would keep jotting down when each contraction starts to keep track.

have you told DH yet? I don't think there's any need for him to get back just yet, but obviously you need to judge that.

I think if contractions repeat within 10 mins you should ask MW's advice and take it from there.
best thing is to trust your gut instinct, if you think you are in labour you need to go in!

good luck!

Reebok · 21/07/2013 22:52

Any news from bear and isitme? Wondering if they've given birth yet.

nervy555 · 21/07/2013 23:13

Steady trickle of possible waters so im off to hosp. Expect to be sent home but exciting all the same!

Reebok · 21/07/2013 23:17

Ooh good luck nervy! Hopefully this is it!

ZingWidge · 21/07/2013 23:18

oh, that is exciting nervy

is your DH going with you?

nervy555 · 21/07/2013 23:35

Yeah he is, feel all psyched up but still sure we'll be home before morning...on the bright side that means I can get tidy and organised before ds arrives.

HJBeans · 22/07/2013 00:26

Hiya - can I join please? Due on the 30th with first baby..

Am wondering if any of you could comment on what's common for 'period-like pains' - are we talking incredibly sharp almost gassy bottom of bump sensation or a more general achiness in lower abdomen?

Am lying awake after pain of the first kind - really incredibly sharp, bottom left side, very low down. Have had it just once on three occasions over the last few days and feels nothing like what I thought contractions would - comes on very quickly and lasts maybe 15 seconds but is excruciating.

Is a bit scary how intense it is and really just hoping to check it's normal... I

If so, it would also be a bonus if it were a sign things were moving along. Though if that's what early labour will feel like I have some rethinking to do on my pain relief priorities!

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 00:37

HJBeans

period-like-pain for me is a dull, churning ache, botton of your belly, just above the pubic bone. in fact the pain might radiate in that direction.

a contraction is like that but it gets stronger, peaks, the the intensity reduces. like a wave

sharp pain/stabbing/twinges are quite different, there's no "wave like" quality to them IYSWIM.

TinkyPeet · 22/07/2013 00:41

hj I'm currently having contractions, they are exactly wave like, you can feel them coming, don't take you by suprise, and are like period cramps, whole belly goes tight though x
My advice would be to speak to your midwife about sharp standby pains, hope you're okay x

HJBeans · 22/07/2013 00:43

Thanks, zing - what I've got is a stabbing pain just below bump toward left side. Is this common in late pregnancy, do you know? Is it potentially a good sign, or a worry?

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 00:44

ah tinky I just wished you good luck on another thread!

good luck again!Thanks

is it your first?

HJBeans · 22/07/2013 00:45

Thanks, tinky - I'll ring tomorrow certainly. It's been scarily sharp - still lying here all tensed up a half hour later.

Good luck with contractions - hope they're leading to a quick and easy birth for you!

TinkyPeet · 22/07/2013 00:46

I saw thankyou Grin
And no it's my third, cx about ten mins apart so I've a way to go yet, gonna try get some sleep
Never know might have a birthing thread going tomorrow lol. Xx

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 00:48

I really couldn't tell HJ

we all have different pain thresholds and while it could be perfectly normal it may not be.

I think you should talk to a MW - although there's no need to panic!

moominmaiden · 22/07/2013 00:49

Can I join too? I'm due on Wednesday and going slightly mad, what with the nesting instinct being half suffocated by the heat (can't relax, but it's too hot to do jobs!).

I have been waiting until 5.30pm to turn on the TV as I feel guilty watching it during the day!!

Two strong bouts of Braxton Hicks yesterday that seemed regular but went away after an hour. Nothing today except diarrea, vague nauseau restlessness.

Family over for lunch today. I was fussing at the cooker with my back to them for a few minutes when I realised the room had gone quiet. Turned around to see my husband, dad, and two sisters staring at me like a baby might just drop out on the kitchen floor at any moment.

No pressure then Hmm

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 00:50

HJ

if you are worried called antenatal ward or triage or whatever number they gave you - no need to wait till morning!

if they say it's nothing, take paracetamol and sleep.
if they want to check you that's ok too.

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 00:54

hi moomin

when you finished cleaning your house, please feel free to come over and give me a hand with mine! Grin

nausea and runny bottom - I'd say your body is getting ready

moominmaiden · 22/07/2013 00:58

HI, you should call the labour ward just to be on the safe side. It doesn't matter if it's the middle of the night - someone will be around and they will no doubt be able to explain the twinges.

Have you ever had an ovarian cyst? It may sound like an odd question, but I've had some sharp pains where you have described, but on the left, caused by stretching scar tissue...

moominmaiden · 22/07/2013 01:01

Thanks, ZingWidge - although I've moved onto hanging pictures so may be some time! Runny bottom indeed Grin

ZingWidge · 22/07/2013 01:05

moomin are you hanging pictures right now? unless you are not in UK please woman, go to bed!

and referring to another thread this is just for tinky - save me a bit of placenta, will you? nom nom Wink Grin

BraveLilBear · 22/07/2013 01:12

Hello! Still here and preggers but keep losing half written messages as flipping between MN and my contraction timer!

On a deadline with drip looming in the morning if no baby en route but currently contracting 3 times in 10 mins on average... lasting up to a minute and bloomin painful.

Have tens machine on so I can try to stay home as long as possible... hospital is literally 5mins away so trying not to go too soon (and risk getting sent home).

Hi HJ! Sending some better luck to you Reebok... come on babies!

And deep breath...

moominmaiden · 22/07/2013 01:17

Haha, no, that was a couple of hours ago. I've been watching a film with my sister, who has travelled 300 miles to enforce a period of relaxation, bless her Grin

Have dutifully watched a small portion of The Exorcist (not particularly relaxing) and something funny starring Jeff Bridges (better). She doesn't need to know that I spent much of the latter surreptitiously reading instructions for hanging floating shelves...

And so to bed Grin

TinkyPeet · 22/07/2013 01:19

Paaaahahaha zing Grin scrummy!!!! Lmao!!!!

moominmaiden · 22/07/2013 01:26

Maybe this will work? DH fast asleep, so it's not like he'd see me doing this ... in the dark ... without musical accompaniment ...
