I'm due on the 17th...2nd baby and so excited. Currently in slow labour so contractions in the evening completely irregular and turning into a disappointing nothing!!!
How are you getting along??

It's ok though, unless they are 5/5 aka fully engaged they can "bob" up and down.
it doesn't mean anything, some babies don't fully engage until you are ready to push!

if your waters broke can I advise you to call the hospital?

they might want you to go in, might not, but it's better if they have a record and can expect you (and prepare) just in case things progress quickly.

you don't want to labouring in the waiting room...

I've never had to do a baby in a heatwave before! DS was born in one of the coldest winters and DD 2 summers ago which, as I recall, was a washout . Lots of useful advice on here.

Hope you are all surviving in this heat. Another reason to be thankful I live in Scotland.

Contractions continue to ramp up here. On the plus side, I have just cleaned my hob with a toothbrush and it's like new!

Thanks ZingWidge. X posts. Am a doctor so have at least a tiny idea of what's going on . My other 2 labours have been 26 hours so I'll be very surprised to go fast (although fully appreciate I could be posting on here with egg on my face later on!).

Isitme- in 40 + 2. Apparently at my midwife appointment on Tuesday she is booking my induction. Not sure I want to be induced never had to be with DS1 a bit scared if I'm honest. I feel like a bit of a failure. Sorry guys having a bad day!

Not at all Zing . I'm not an obstetrician so no expert.

Eatchoc . Not a failure at all. My heads (!) have all bobbed up and down until the last minute. It means nothing. Tuesday is a long, long way away .

and at egg on face! 3rd could be much faster!

my first 2 were induced.

3rd - I was in early labour all day on the Saturday, didn't realize.
went to bed at 4am with 2 paracetamols.
woke at 5am, huge contraction.
got to hospital at 6am - 6cm dilated.
2 sips of G&A, wanted to push!
another check - I was ready to push!
dilated from 6 cms to 10 in 5 mins! waters broke with 1st push and DS3 was born with 3 pushes at 6.35 am!

Eatchoc, you're not a failure. Baby is probably just very comfortable.

Well I've just finished another morning of cleaning...I tell you my house has been sparkling since I started mat leave...cleaning every day but still nothing. Grr

On a pleasant note, I can actually feel a breeze coming through my windows...for once!! Here's hoping it won't be as hot today eh!

Hello hello. Just quickly checking in. No baby here yet and all cramps stopped. Been at the park with DD and had a good bounce on the trampoline . Here's hoping that helps. I'm too hot to eat so living off granola and fruit!

just a quick update, midwife refused my sweep today on the grounds of guidelines that state that non 1st time mums must wait until 41 weeks for a sweep.

cue me hysterically crying and midwife agreeing to check my cervix to reassure me. she said im ready to go and 2cm dilated so thats better than nothing!

think she may have set things off with the check though, been losing plug and having regular make you wince contractions since i got out at 11am.

Mama yep they are the guidelines. if you see an old skool midwife ask her she will do it. I got offered one at 38 weeks with ds1 but she said keep it a secret lol

Just took 5 mins break from cleaning. Didnt realise id been cleaning 2 hours straight! Got ironing to do and other bits and bobs so should be done by 4.

I wish they'd make their minds up on sweeps and induction guidelines - its blimmin confusing! I'm being pushed hard for IOL at 40+0 as primip, there are studies pushing for primip over 35 to be induced at 39 weeks and then they won't do sweeps on multips til 41. Either the placenta gets less efficient with age (of mother and foetus) or it doesn't.

Anyone who doesn't want intervention such as IOL you can push back and ask them to scan an give you more time (although in this heat I imagine its more tempting to go ahead...)

TomDaley I'm pretty sure the trampoline got me going last time (you just have to be careful not to wet yourself!).

Reebok do you find that you've got a bit Stepford Wives about the cleaning though? I didn't used to care about whether the piano had been dusted. Now I check every day. I don't think it's healthy .

mrsspagbol ice lollies are doing the trick for me. I'd really like to pace about naked but my parents are turning up soon!

mamachelle that must be so frustrating. Sounds like she did a bit of an unofficial sweep anyway though .

Isitme I'm not sure that I do know what I'm doing. 3rd time round is quite nice though - I can finally trust that my body knows what it's doing and just go with it (fingers crossed).

Still going with proper contractions, only every 10 minutes though. Looks like another long haul!

Lol yes Zulu. The moment I notice a tiny bit of dust I freak. Driving DH mad. Had a lovely cold shower and then sat in front of fan...really helped cool me down.

Mama here's hoping baby will be alone soon. One of us have to go into labour soon to give the rest of us hope.

I'm so so so bored and fed up! I want to be able to bend again and see my toes. And for this yucky taste in my mouth to go.

Still no mucus plug...stupid tiny contractions but not enough. Hope the rest of you are having better luck.
