Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Thanks sally, currently have one in now, it was a bugger to keep up there in between the lip and gum, and it doesn't taste that nice whilst dissolving im really hoping it helps as fed up with getting nothing done and feeling dreadful!! :0/

Totesamazeballs · 25/08/2013 14:08

Hope they work for you abibub.

Misty- I am same as you and dreading the next few weeks! I just can't get out of bed and I am starting to wonder if its in my head! I just feel a lot worse standing up and lack the energy. I know the longer I stay housebound the worse it will be but I need a kick up the arse or something.

Saaly - Thanks for the Twisters suggestion!

LucindaE · 25/08/2013 15:23

Welcome to Bunny and Abibub. My usual question - have you got kesotix in case the vomiting gets bad, available from chemists to test for ketones yourselves? Bunny There are lots of safe meds, if it isn't working well best go go back, glad you can keep some food and liquid down and ketones were low last time, but poor you, work worries, a LO to look after and bleeding. Abibub Some women on here have found that good the way it by passes the stomach - back on previous threads, that is.
Totes It is NOT in your head! It's a serious illness, you are being hard on yourself, because most people don't get it most of the talk everywher is about managable MS, this is something else, you need all the rest you can. Oh no, about work! There is a fair choice of safe meds - GP could find something else if the cyclazine is no good, some people find it takes a while to work but not sure how long you've been on it? I definitely recommend lollies, and ice cubes..and flat coke frozen into cubes...
LittleMachine I am so glad you are coping - I never heard of anterior placenta before, so that stops you feeling movements?
Feekerry I am glad others could reassure you. Jen's idea about the doppler sounds good.
Sally Sorry you are still suffering. Did you speak to dr, or do you have to wait until Tuesday?
Champagne I am so glad you didn't suffer too badly on holiday -
thanks so much for lovely positive post, if you are lucky it could be on the wane.
Tallyra Congratulations on food. I am sure they gave you a scan in there?Very likely the IV meds worked well, this time.
Misty Oh dear, I wish I could think of a solution. Can you get different meds urgently if it turns bad, before Tuesday? It seems a shame to cancel, but you don't want to be away from medical care if it takes a turn for the worse. I am ignorant of what 130,000 means?
Sorry to anyone overlooked. Hope Everyone is coping.
Lucinda

An anterior placenta just means it's at the front, which is slightly less common than the back. Earlier on I felt less movement, but from about 25 weeks I felt and saw everything! I'm only small and I was huge by then and DS didn't have much room.

AbiBub · 25/08/2013 16:50

Hey! I cant tell if it actually worked :0/ the thing that has managed to cure the nausea was a packet of ready salted french fries crisps for the moment. I cant have sweet things at all at the mo and dont even get me started on dairy stuff :0/ I guess I could try the tablet tomorrow morning as that is when I mostly get hit with it although get it a little bit throughout the day. You guys seem to suffer far worse by the sounds if it so dont want to take up your thread with my babble!! I really hope you all find the relief that you need. Biggest hugz x

Misty9 · 25/08/2013 17:33

Thanks totes and lucinda. The 130000 is my hcg level at 6/7wks. Well, maybe the cyclizine is doing something as I was an hour late for a dose this afternoon and felt about 10x worse :( sat in bathroom for half an hour thinking I'd be sick. Now having to sit as still as possible to keep dizziness and nausea at bay, and 23mo ds is not very happy that mummy can't play and being very angry with me :(

Gonna get emergency appt on Tuesday (we fly in the evening) and ask for something else. I seem to be feeling worse as time goes by, so really undecided about cancelling holiday. I'd need a sick note from the gp anyway. Feel terrible about dh having to do everything. He's getting fed up with my apologising though!
I know I'm lucky to not be vomiting - yet.

Misty what a difficult descision for you.

We decided to cancel our holiday a couple of weeks ago. However, we were driving to France to stay in my Dad's place so the financial implication was about £75 for the ferry!

Really glad I've got the odanstrone. It allows me to eat, and I actually get thirsty in the evenings. I still feel dizzy and not quite right. But so brilliant to be able to keep stuff down. I even went out yesterday to buy so maternity jeans!!

MurderOfGoths · 25/08/2013 18:40

Im terrified right now, left hospital at about 9 with no ketones, Im already back with with +4. It was like this in the last trimester of my last pregnancy, but Im only 8 Weeks now. I feel like it's snowballing already. So scared.

Tallyra · 25/08/2013 18:42

abibub I actually told the doctors in hospital I actively wouldn't take buccastem as the taste is counterproductive and makes me feel worse.

AbiBub · 25/08/2013 19:15

Tallyra thanks for that. The taste is horrid and im not sure if it works as the mornings are far worse for me; so I guess I could try it again in the morning? ! Im just fed up with not being able to get anything done :0 (

LittleMachine · 25/08/2013 19:39

Oh MurderofGoths, I'm so sorry you're in hospital again, you must feel really awful. I wish I could say something to make you feel better. Thanks

LittleMachine · 25/08/2013 19:39

What meds are you on MOG?

MurderOfGoths · 25/08/2013 19:46

Ondansetron and Cyclizine, have have previously tried Stemetil and Metacloperamide.

Totesamazeballs · 25/08/2013 19:53

Murder- can you keep anything down? Wish I could help you. It's just so awful.

I have moved in with my parents. I couldn't keep my freelance commitment today. Spent the afternoon asleep but feel less spaced out now I have stopped the cyclazine.

Roll on Tuesday...moar drugs!! Not sure what to advise you Misty. I can't imagine going anywhere but I also would be reluctant to lose out! My DH is the same...I keep apologising as he has done all of the childcare!

ChocChaffinch · 25/08/2013 20:09

jenpatnim · 25/08/2013 21:22

Hey guys - sorry you are all having such a tough time. Not much to report on my end - still don't look pregnant at 15+2.

MurderOfGoths · 26/08/2013 09:56

Murder that is terrible! I am so sorry! You have every right to be scared, and your feelings are very real. We are here for you.

LittleMachine · 26/08/2013 10:25

MOG that's an attitude I came across lots in my first 2 pregnancies, especially my first as I was only 16. You got yourself into this - this is your choice. It's a horrible attitude to have. How are you feeling today? Are you on constant fluids?

Totesamazeballs · 26/08/2013 10:43

All I can say is she obv hasn't ever been sick a day in her life and isn't blessed with any empathy, thus clearly in the wrong profession!

I would cry too!

Are you feeling any better now?

Sally8655 · 26/08/2013 12:29

Murder that's disgusting, I have had lots of snooty comments too. Get things like "its self inflicted'" and "it's normal, all women go through it" and I can't believe the amount of people who have made comments on my sex life! As I was poorly before I got pregnant there have been several people say "I couldn't have been that ill if I were able to have sex with my husband"
I've come close to really saying something I'd probably regret at some point on so many occasions.

I'm feeling really sick still and foul taste in my mouth is back in full force.
Feel like I'm being beaten up from the inside out as baby is now really active.
Oh and feel miserable as I now look, fat, patchy, spotty, pale and my hair is just a greasy, bushy, dull mess. Where's the glow!!!

LucindaE · 26/08/2013 13:32

MurderofGoths You poor, poor thing, how awful. That must be really dreadful puking - I so feel for you. What meds are they giving you on IV?
It must be terrifying, but perhaps this is the worst bit and they will work something out to lessen the vomiting at least. When was the peak last time? I get the impression from on here that a lot of people peak at about eight to ten weeks?
cyber hugs probably too rough- gentle pats on offer.
Really furious about that insenistive nurse - don't they have any training about what it is and is not acceptable to say? What makes them think they have the right to say this sort of thing when you are miserable enough and they are there to help, not make you feel worse?

Yes, Sally, I too have had awkward comments about my sex life such as - should have stuck to blow jobs - from a friend of my parents. In front of my parents. I died a little bit inside.

Feeling really rough today - I am sure I am going to puke very soon.
