Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Lol MOG! Thank goodness it wasn't anything more serious!

Dilsa, I hear you. It's so ironic because I would have been so thrilled to spend a day in bed about a mo th ago and catch up on all of the lost sleep due to DS but now I am fed up with bed already!

First day off the meds and didn't keep anything down this morn but I am hoping I can keep what I have just eaten down. Main worry is dehydration but I prefer not being on the meds. For some reason the nausea doesn't seem quite as intense all of the time. There are more peaks and troughs which I find easier.

How is every

What an awful day :-( was expected though as no meds so far today. I just completely conked out after an apple and woke up feeling horrendous. I'm constipated once again. My head feels weird and I have metal mouth now too. Still only puked once but can feel another episode coming on soon.

Hang in there totes! We can do the no meds!!!

dialled 111 on sat night, saw emerg gp and got admitted as 4+
bloody maxalon does bog all. I found I had a lot of jaw tension and tonge wiggling with it!
so after ''battle royale at hospital I fought tooth and nail for odansatron, they relented in the end and gave me 7 days worth the motherfuckers.

One pharmacist LIED to my face and told me she was so sorry they did not do odansetron in tablet form so I'd have to do with cyclizine but it would be OK as all symptoms will probably disappear by week 12. The moron.
thus I got discharged after waiting hours without any drugs as the pharmacy were so crappy so dh gone back to hospital now to fetch them. It's like I wont believe Ive got odansatron until I hold it in my hand.
when I had ds and needed it after 4 days on a drip they prescribed it no problem.

it's an absolute lottery and it is ridiculous.

choc It's a joke isn't it?

I feel pretty awful today, slightly nauseous and my stomach aches. I cannot get comfortable. I've got laxatives and gaviscon to take to counteract the constipation and indigestion. But both make the nausea worse. Cannot fucking win :(

Choc, that is ridiculous.

I am so tired, I can't even believe it. I did a full day of teaching (not sure how.... but anyway) and then went to the gp to collect my rx. Longish story here

I ordered a repeat of ondansetron, metaclopramide + 2 other regular things on THURSDAY via email (their preferred method) and waited the 24 hours before going there on Fri after school. They handed me a script for the other 2 things but no anti-sickness. I asked, said it was very important and was told 'the dr must still have it, call back Mon.' Not happy, but had just enough ondansetron to cover me...

Today - still can't find it. "Oh we'll have to reprint it - we'll call you.' I said I needed the script today, I am not going home and coming back, I'd wait. AN HOUR to finally get it.

Then 3 chemists none of whom had ondansetron in stock. Cue me about to cry. Eventually phoned the chemist near my parents (and in a whole other town from me), they had it, went, got it, collapsed on parents' sofa for an hour before trying to drive home.

Also got the doppler - found the hb for a sec then the wee bugger moved, but I am sure it was there...... mostly, lol.

I just wanted to give you girls some good news for once. Ive been nausea free from 4pm today. Dont worry, not falling for it as this has happened before and im fully aware I might bounce back but im also 12w 3d so maybe the hcg is allowing the placenta to take over. Just think hope is a good thing and if I am indeed improving then there's hope for all of us. Also I have myScan tomOrrow so im hoping nothing is wrong. Its amazing how this hcg is like a switch. Its on and the nausea returns and I cant do anything, its off and I remember who I am. I actually thought about plans for the future for the FIRST time. Also a point my friend said; you might be having a rough time now but maybe god will give you that peaceful baby who doesnt keep you up with colic or not feeding well. Maybe you'll end up with the top baby and the most sleep. I liked that. ....just maybe.

Hello everyone Smile will catch up with the thread shortly, but been away with my 3dcs for a week. Pretty shattered but we survived planes, trains, buses and walking for miles (when I got us lost...) Dilsa's post just made me think. I do have THE most contented baby. He only grizzles when hungry and other than that is ridiculously calm and happy. He is not a sicky baby which is hugely ironic given how sick I was throughout. In fact he has only been a little bit milk sick once in his whole 5 week long life!

I had hoped for an amazingly easy labour as well as a contented baby to sort of compensate for the HG, but in fact my latent stage lasted 3 days, partly because he was slightly back to back and partly because my body was utterly exhausted by then after months and months of illness. But overall I certainly got some pretty amazing compensation in terms of my baby's completely chilled out nature.

Right, may try to nap whilst my super hungry baby does but will pop back in tomorrow (which is actually today now of course). Hugs to anyone having a horrible time, and my fingers and toes are crossed for those experiencing some respite, that it lasts a long, long time

Terrible day finally gave up and called in work sick. Back at the gp yesterday and other than cyclazine or the avomine they won't prescribe anything.
I tried explaining how unwell I was feeling how dizzy cold and faint if I have to stand in a queue but nothing.
They didn't even check my blood pressure.
I kept down half a cup I soup yesterday because I went to sleep straight away after.
I put in a urine sample last week as I was concerned and they said last one was borderline but not what for. Its come back as no further action.
I have sticks at home due to my urology issues so knew it was showing protein and ketones so how they got a clear one I don't know. I struggled to produce a sample as it was
Arghhhh feel like no one is listening to me it's just let's wait until the next trimester and keep eating and drinking little and often as you keep some bits down even when sick

Waves- I was just thinking how you and rnj were getting on. It's nice to know you have a nice calm baby :-) is your nausea completely gone now? I'm finding it hard to imagine what its going to be like nausea free. I know it's only been 19 weeks but it feels like its been forever!

Jen- I had the same problem with my chemists. In the end I ordered my repeat script a week in advance so they could order it in. The being messed around when your so sick is horrible.

Dilsa- so glad your having a break from HG. I'm hoping it is miraculously the end for you too. Fingers crossed!

Bunny- unfortunately your at the worst stage I think. Can you try bypassing your gp and speaking directly with the local maternity department? If you explain how poorly and dehydrated you are they will probably ask you to go in for IV fluids and then they can prescribe you other tablets at the same time. Maybe? This has always been better for me.

Cyber hugs to choc MOG and others xoxoxo

bunny What is your midwife like? Or could you get to the gynae unit at your local hospital?

I had a crap labour with DS but he is a very easy, acquiescent child so worth all the vomming to get that!

Sorry to hear everyone's crappy times. It's a real battle royals out there to get meds and it shouldn't be.

Choc - I have been told exactly the same thing. Just focus on liquid. I get it but we also need food otherwise it just spirals. The other popular one is 'doc, I can't eat or drink, everything makes me so sick...' ' well just make yourself' Hmm

Jen - excuse my French but how the frack did you manage to teach? I can't even cope with my own toddler! And he is easy!

Bunny - second what MOG says. Go direct. Pee stick in hand!

MOG - sorry to hear you are feeling rough with the other tummy troubles. I haven't had the constipation yet. I am dreading it. I tried gaviscon at the start and it made me feel more sick too.

Waves - glad you are getting on well with your DS. They are such a joy and its just wonderful to watch them grow and learn. Enjoy the snugly baby stage.

Dilsa - good news!! Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel!

Sally, hang in there. This is my second day sans meds and I feel better being sick without them than on them. Determined to keep it up. It's just hard to get the fluids.

Silly question - but how do you tell if you are dehydrated? Do the pee sticks show that or just ketones? Or does one mean the other? I am peeing twice or three times a day which is waaay less than normal but is it enough?

Quick reply to totes the presence of ketones indicates dehydration, the more ketones, the more dehydrated you are. I think most hospitals admit for fluids at 3+

yet again missed the posts :o I was wondering why it was so quiet!

dilsa glad to hear you've got a break from the sickness, however short ... And lovely to hear wavesandsmiles finally got through to the other side. Last preg I was in labour three days too maybe cause of exhaustion. At least it does end and the result is lovely. Thank all the gods.

Lucinda, I'm medium nauseous but not actually vomitting .. yet. Actually the worst is probably my head, I'm absolutely terrified of getting full blown HG again. It's definitely lurking - if I get too tired the awful, awful sickness comes back. I don't want to do anything at the moment to risk getting that tired; don't want to leave the house, don't want to do anything at all like the washing and irioning, just a bit seems to wear me out and I start feeling rotten and need to rest. Keep crying, cause I know what it can be like if the fullblown HG hits. Its obviously so hard to get the right meds - I cant believe a hospital pharm would say they havent got Ondasetron! - that it makes the fear worse. So glad to find these forums. Pretty alone atm and the supportiveness of the people here is warming.

We had to tell our 5 year old last night because he was asking why mama is feeling so sick. Think it was a relief to him.

best of luck bunny. Hope the hospital can help.

Bunny, I would go straight to maternity, especially if you have 3+ or 4+ Ketones.

Amazingly, Totes, I am finding work to be a good distraction, apart from a few niggles. I am so busy I keep forgetting to take tablets until lunchtime - which is an hour late for ondansetron.... even feeling sick today didn't alert me. Also my classroom was 28 degrees all day today - with windows open and fan on. Ugh... but I did get a giggle when a 12 year old, after being asked not to sing, replied, "I'm getting my groove on, woman!" Bear in mind these are special needs kids.

Plus I have been teaching so long (this is year 13) that a lot of it is automatic .... I've never been a pregnant teacher before and my teacher mode just carries on as normal.

Still feeling human, and hungry at the normal times, which is awesome. No bowel movements in 11 days eep but got GP tomorrow so can discuss then. Must pack notes!

my consultant said ondansetron is renowned for causing horrific constipation - any of you lot finding this? they've given me a tonne of lactulose but Im reluctant as it gives me belly ache

if you go in hosp don't be surprised to have weird injections - I had one in my stomach of warfarin and 2 in my legs of ondansetron whilst I was still vomming. and enjoy your support stockings Wink

Hi everyone.

I'm feeling very, very lucky. I'm almost certain I'm over the worst already at 12 weeks.
I've been reducing my medication over the last few days to just one at night and I definitely just have ordinary pregnancy sickness. I am sick in the morning and and by mid-morning I'm ok.

After my last pregnancy, 40 weeks of measuring ketones, holes in my throat, pulled muscles from vomiting, I can't believe how lucky I am, and believe me I do appreciate it.
I hope the same happens for more of you.

If you don't mind, I'll stick around and try and offer some support.ThanksThanksThanks

Have really appreciated this thread.
