Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

RNJ - fingers crossed for you, it all sounds quite dramatic! Hoping once you get going you are ok!

Tallyra - that is horrible, although I am glad you got cyclizine. I have loads of cyclizine I am not going to use - wish I could throw it over to you! You know your body and you have been through this before, your voice should have more weight.

fee I think we are all in similar boats but I think everyone else has good suggestions.

Becca I am sure you would know even with the ondansetron if you are feeling better. Yikes. I can't believe the docs are being so stingy!

Nice to see you Lucinda!

As for me, I am still totally fed up. I can't do anything. I spent about an hour today going through the spare room (has all my clothes in it) seeing what I can clear out to make room for the baby and baby stuff and I ended up being very sick and having to go to bed. There seems to be no real let-up. I am tired but not sleepy, nauseated all the time, bored and restless but unable to go out and actually DO anything and I am supposed to go back to work in 2 weeks? AAAAAAARGH I have no life just now.

ChocChaffinch · 14/08/2013 20:18

Hi Guys.
Am 6+6 today, and already at the end of my ruddy tether with this rotten puking.
have seen doctor - yesterday, and got cyclazine, but it doesn't work at all.
This is my 3rd preg, and 2nd with hyperemesis, I ended up on a drip for 4 days last time, so really trying to avoid that this time.
But how long should I give the cyclazine to work before going back to doctor?
today managed to eat a few salty chips and a bit of vanilla icecream.

feekerry · 14/08/2013 20:33

congrats choc. tho not for the hg.
what did you end up using med wise in your last hg pergnancies? personally i wouldn't give it longer than a day with just cyclizine. just go back and say you tried it for 24 hours and you now need something else. if you have used ondansatron before just say you know what works and without it you will end up in hospital again x

ChocChaffinch · 14/08/2013 20:47

yep ill ring them tomorrow. am sitting here crying now after 12th vom of the day. bah! still have folic to take.

ChocChaffinch · 14/08/2013 20:50

Last time I went into hosp at 9weeks after diagnosing myself with MILs ketones sticks, after pharmacist laughed me out ''ginger'' and doctor shrugged sorry cannot prescribe in 1st trimester. Idiots.

(MIL is a retired MW)

they had me on something strong and good, but I remember they wouldn't prescribe it to me longer term as was too expensive.
Maxillon rings a bell TBH
but after that, on Cyclizine I remember throwing up only about once a day.

Sally8655 · 14/08/2013 21:26

Welcome back lucinda :-)

Fee- I know your pain all too well, this was the same with me after being constipated for over a week. It got so bad, nothing was working. I tried senna (prescribed) prune juice, glycerol suppositories and even manual removal which left me bleeding badly. I was dizzy and nearly passing out on the loo. Doctor then prescribed movicol which is specifically for blockages. I had 5 sachets and within a couple if hours it passed easily and I cried with relief.
I've now changed my vitamins to pregnacare and go a couple of times every day.

Choc- congrats but sorry your suffering with this

Becca- just thinking while I type makes me sick so know what you mean.

I'm feeling dreadful after having to go to the docs office today. But did manage to eat a sandwich earlier. Still struggling with fluids and being sick every afternoon and evening. Headaches are awful.

Thinking of you all xxx

MotherofPearl · 14/08/2013 21:51

Have not been on here for ages (am an ex-sufferer much helped by this thread in 2011), but wanted to pop on to say congratulations to Reebok on the birth of your baby daughter! Flowers It must be such a relief to feel well again: I do remember how much you suffered. I know it's little comfort to those of you currently suffering at 5 or 6 weeks, but you too will get there in the end. Big cheery waves to Lucinda!

MotherofPearl · 14/08/2013 21:52

P.S. Feekerry, I remember you from the last time you had HG. You poor thing to be suffering again. Really hope you get some respite soon.

Beccadugs · 14/08/2013 22:11

Sorry for being a bit graphic in my earlier post... I just know how awful it feels and hope that things help!

Have had a better evening, and managed to eat some bean sprout noodles from my fave resturant. V dry abs carby. This was my birthday treat while DH had a nice big curry, in the other room... Had to go to bedbimmediatly after though, but it's stayed down!! Hooray.

Happy birthday Becca and champagne.

Sounds like birthday triumphs were had by you both!

I'm trying to decide if the odd bulging sensation is maybe my waters considering going. Having uncomfortable tightenings every 7-10 mins... Kept down some of my DHs special homemade pizza this evening. And a handful of raspberries.

RNJ3007 · 15/08/2013 08:12

Luke David Peter J. was born this morning at 0330 weighing 5lb13oz. He is perfect.

Still shocked, but so very in love!

:)

wavesandsmiles · 15/08/2013 08:17

Huge congratulations RNJ Smile what a lovely name, and you did well to keep him cooking so long, and to get him to a decent weight. Enjoy the newborn love, and I hope that you are already feeling so much better Thanks

Tallyra · 15/08/2013 08:40

congratulations RNJ! Grin Grin Grin Grin

On my goodness, that's amazing rnj!!! Really pleased for you. Baby's name is lovely. Hope you are up to eating your favourite meal very soon xxx

LucindaE · 15/08/2013 09:40

RNJ Huge congratulations, I am so happy for you, a lovely happy result after such awful suffering, and such anxiety. ThanksThanksThanks
GrinGrin. I hope you are feeling wonderful already. What a respectable sized baby, too!
ChocChip I hope I've got that name right, welcome, sorry you are suffering again, brave of you to go for it and the best of luck with meds.
Champagne and Becca Happy Birthday - as happy as you can have when feeling bad, your babies are the best birthday present you could have, hang in there. Thanks Thanks
Feekerry You poor thing, and Beccadugs I don't think that was too graphic at all, nothing is on here, and I think the latex gloves solution is the best thing to be done in the circumstanaces, I wondered myself, worried about piles, but that seems worth the risk when suffering agonies.

Tallyra I think that another of the Pregnancy Sickness charities has a number you can phone for a doctor to intervene if necessary - and there's those new guidelines MOH mentioned, so I'll look it up this am. I think it is outrageous, I'm horrified this is still going on.
wavesandsmiles and Reebok and Mother of Pearl hugs.
Sally and Littlemachine How are things?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked back soon.

Tallyra Got the web address www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
and the telephone number is 024 7638 2020 . They are a team of doctors, midwives etc and the GP may take them a bit more seriously, particularly as she should know of the new protocols involving the Hyperemesis sufferer's quality of life. Failing that, Caitlin Dean on the Facebook Hyperemesis support group should be able to help, I went to them for advice when Feekerry was being dismissed...
RNJ Congratulations again! So happy for you.

Congratulations RNJ - so happy for you! Amazing news!

Tallyra · 15/08/2013 11:28

Thanks Lucinda. I had my chat with Polly the other day about my volunteer application and we've put it on hold to see what happens, so I have been in contact but not spoken to them about help yet, I'll check that lull out. I'm about to join the forum too. I'm determined I won't be sidelined.

Also thinking of contacting the hosp consultant I saw before in anticipation... she was there each time at the mc and remembers me - she said hello in passing when I went for my hysteroscopy which was nice.

LucindaE · 15/08/2013 12:01

Tallyra I get mixed up because there seem to be two really good groups, MOH's one running from the website she created, and another, the one I had the links for below. I think the second offers more specialist advice....Good idea about consultant, too.
Jen Sorry, I had a message scrawled down and couldn't read my own handwriting. I think it says that Mother Hen says you shouldn't even think of going back to work in two weeks unless there's a big improvement, cluck, cluck. This is just too debilitating, aren't you a teacher? I don't know how RNJ survived, it must have been too horrible having to be sick in the classroom Envy.

Yay! I found my E111 card, I can go to France and be sick without worrying I'll be turned away for not having it! I'll be taking ketostix and multiple meds with me as well, just in case...

feekerry · 15/08/2013 14:58

omg rjn i am sat here im tears really need to get hormones under control huge congrats. do you feel instantly hg free???

sally, becca and any others who gave helpful constipation advice i am glad to say it worked after 2 horrid days. the supppsotries worked okay and actually the glove and lube worked a treat. wish i had done it sooner as it really wasn't as bad as i imagined. just a note to anyone suffering constipation ... do not ignore it like i did. you will end up like i was a couple of days ago. seek help asap!!!
lucinda i am petrified of getting piles again. they were horrid. pregnancy is gross.
mother i remember you too. i am obviously an idiot for having another bbaby. can't wait till this is over!!

RNJ3007 · 15/08/2013 16:54

Thanks everyone! He's beautiful. Can't quite believe he's here!

I went from 'not in active labour' to delivered in under 2 minutes. Very scary but glad it was over quickly! He is skinny but perfect - came out coated in vernix and still covered in lanugo.

I had breakfast at 8 - toast and jam and juice. And lunch - sandwich, fruit, veggie sticks. Still not quite right, but close enough. Think there may be take out tonight if I make it home!!!

I'll upload a pic to my profile!
